Absolutely dying to see some HD vlog style footage of "Noodle" and his crew of rapscallion's moving a 1200lb beam into place while tweaking. Don't hold back , we demand it.
I want to see the Methesdestrian in action!

Totally lmao
They aren't laying off workers because there's a problem: they're laying off workers because they can. It's all about maximizing profits. Fender is fine.
Yeah it’s not rocket science.
This is a true statement....unfortunately....
Re: Gibson. Two things I’d love to see from them: 1) reclaim the PAF and 2) reclaim the jazzbox. I feel like there’s more interest in these now than any time ever and it would be great to get an ES-175 for… $5k instead of $10k? In any event rock is no longer as dominant as it was and I think leaning on Gibson being part of tradition that can stretch into the future is the way to go. Also getting the Studio line more affordable would be great. I had a satin one from 2008 which was great except for the pickups. They really should be aiming for a Les Paul that says Gibson, goes for around $800 and has really great humbuckers. Make them in Mexico for all I care just look at something like the G&L Tribute series where the compromise is on TLC directed at the neck and body, but it’s got The Pickups. I’d buy a new LP Studio like that if they took it in that direction.
Hopefully more episodes soon, love it!
Hey guys! Great stuff from both of you on UA-cam this week ...thanks a bunch to u both..can't get enough of the room filled w guys like Rick beato .. Dave onorado... Keith Williams....man...not to mention Willie.. congratulations Rhett..🤘🎸🎶..long live the guitar nerd herd.. 😂
Excellent chat---really enjoyed being a fly on the wall, thanks, guys!!
Congrats in advance on the 10K sub milestone. Cheers!
Rhett needs to have a thrash metal phase in his life. Also he needs a guitar with a floyd rose and a high gain amp. Just for fun
Agreed

Something to note re: the Fender models on the website around timestamp 41:00 - Fender keeps a lot of discontinued models available on the website for customer information, because the turnover at the retailers isn't instantaneous. I can still find my 2015 American Deluxe Telecaster on the website, for example, even though that line is no longer produced.
I love that new Novo shape. I’m super excited to see wooden’s up being the standard configuration for that body style.
I'm enjoying these videos a lot, and the 'five levels of Strat' idea sounds especially interesting.
My guess is that Fender was starting to worry that the impending recession combined with the guitar boom dying down was going to create a bubble in the guitar market and didn’t want to take the risk.
it's all post-covid stuff. recession, and people going outside and playing less guitar inside.
Before the layoffs, Guitar Center canceled an enormous order leaving Fender with a huge unexpected surplus of 2022 model year guitars. They immediately went from trying to catch up with demand to having guitars they now need to sell again. Maybe these layoffs were to better fit the forecasted demand.
It’s still a bummer for the displaced workers. I don’t think these layoffs were based on Corporate greed. Some of the blame rests on Guitar Center and their continuing folly.
Hmm thats interesting. I recently went to my local GC and was disappointed by the lack of variety for fender gutiars. They didn't have a single Jazzmaster or Jaguar. When I asked or mentioned it to one of the workers they said they've been trying to order more but are having a hard time since they said fender is low on stock. Which surprised me since I know Jazzmasters have gotten pretty popular over the years. They've been waiting for months to try and get more.
If those are lollar pickups they already are wax potted, string throughs just have so much inductance that you may need to back off the hex screws a bit
For the Champ, It would be great to do a thinner baffle for the thinner speaker. It will help it resonate a bit more, and definitely help it feel bigger.
that was first thing, that I noticed, the whole cab was made from too thick of a wood for guitar speaker cab
Willie’s is a Baldwin Pickup & Amplifier, rare these days
1:01:00 most octave fuzz pedals begin to sound way different (weird?) from fret 12-14 and up. try it.
RS. Are you Playing the Divided by 13 RSA13 a lot? Tips. Ever thinking about having a master volume added?
It’s because of the recession. Yes, we are in a recession with two consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth. G&L had to furlough a bunch employees too. It’s not just about guitar sales. It’s also about an increase in price in building materials because of inflation, increased gas prices, and supply chain issues. All this stuff drastically effects the cash flow of a company. I have an inside source in upper management at one of these companies and this is what they explained to me.
woohoo! FIAT government rules
Random question. Is there a tubescreamer with a clean blend? I'm like Rhett in the fact that I don't really get the tube screamer but I feel like if I could mix it in to taste it would perfectly put you in the mix. I'm a producer and I do a similar thing to bring out the midrange of a bass.

JHS Moonshine. Not exactly a TS, but based on it - I’d rather have the JHS :)
Neck/fretboard is the one place where flamed maple makes me feel something funny inside.
I have that same Klon clone, if someone could show me how to mod it so it would hold up (the enclosure is great, the switch and Jackson are shit and I'd like to know how to upgrade them)
Fender's decision seems straightforward. Labor cost for their main line American Standard guitars are a tough sled to profitability. They certainly plan to shift more of all but their custom shop to Mexico
I encourage you to watch Dylan Talks Tone's episode regarding the Fender lays offs. The decision to lay people off was almost purely due to having too much inventory of Squiers and MIM guitars. Expensive guitar sales are still really high right now. It's inexpensive sales that are slumping and Fender has some weird corporate logic behind the whole thing
On that Fender guitar - it looks like a Fender Japan "Mary Kaye" guitar. hey made them in the mid 90s. They had Sen (Japanese ash) bodies and had the gold hardware. A lot of these would age to have a finish like that. Super cool guitar. hard to find and play killer.
I suspect there are many factors: the fear of a recession and the realization that buyers can purchase Fender guitars built overseas that are comparable to the ones built here.
In my opinion, Fender has diluted their brand. Every year, Fender seems to change their entire lineup which does nothing but confuse potential buyers. Seriously, how different could they be from year to year? Why should a recreational player spend $1200 for an American made instrument when they can get a reasonably price Squier guitar for approximately $400.
Grille cloth is also obnoxiously expensive for what you get. And if you’re not taking it out of home. It’s not as needed
You should try a kinman treble bleed or a simple treble bleed, I haven't tried a seymour duncan cause they're supposed to mess with your taper which is what messes up the fuzz, kinman and simple don't do that. A kinman retains more mids and less highs than a simple or seymour and really just sounds how I imagine a volume knob should sound on guitar. Could do a comparison video, it was really hard to find good comparisons with kinman treble bleeds
I am extremely appalled … that yous guy did not know the Fender Stories collection .
OMG . Feelings are hurting🤙👍🏻🎉😂😵💫
In Austria a Gibson Les Paul Standard is about €2200 while a Fender American professional II strat is about €1800. I wouldn’t say that is much cheaper at this point. Am Pro II isn’t even a nitro finish. What’s going on?! I would buy Gibson right now every time.
I totally agree about the SG Jr. I wanna see the young ones rocking that!
I think those Japanese strats may have had foto flame necks. Some certainly did.
Noodle got wet, and that steel beam just kept slipping off.
Best Klon I have , including a real one is a $21 golden horsey made by Mosky. Sounds absolutely excellent
Can anybody confirm that this pedal is epic ?
Pissing people off is right in my wheelhouse.😁🎸🎶
Yeah the product lineup is confusing. I cant imagine trying to organize that for production. Or being a luthier on the floor there. I imagine lots of confusion.
I enjoyed the video. My opinion on Gibson is they have epiphone to worked with the young talent. Witch to we older music lover's don't pay attention to. With epiphone they can cover many more young groups.
As the groups succeed then Gibson seams to step in investing on a more sure thing. Gibson and epiphone are the same Corp why push competition. Now they seem to be working with Kramer.
"Cooter-caster" LOL Looks sick
i wanna know your take on the acoustasonic since you think its the dumbest guitar lol . I was wondering why
Re: cultural trends & their impact on the market, it is random, but also *isn't*. Good storytelling (like Stranger Things) is powerful and will always be what influences ppl to see things (like a BC Rich) in a new light. If brands have the sense to detect and attach themselves to that- they will ride those waves more often than not
The Wish Klon is $36.00 + $9.94 shipping. It sounds great!
My Wish klon was right at $30 with free shipping when I bought it. it's been a couple years.

If the cost of everything went up, companies will need to make "adjustments" in order to survive the recession, if they are firing 300 people is probably because the can't or won't be able to afford them in the near future, this is a survival move
"We love ya ...but shut up" ...is defo a t-shirt. 😆
The problem have w/ Fender and other companies is they brag when times are good but when things look (and that's all it is right now) that things might be bad they quickly fire people. It is what it is but somehow we are the point where companies are incentivized to spend, spend, and spend when times are good to expand. But when the inevitable return to normal times happens it's "sorry, we have no choice but to fire people" Perhaps better planning was in order.
I'm certainly not a Fender defender but, they and everyone else are coming off an all time sales peak in the guitar industry. If they know they won't be able to keep those people busy, better to let them go now while the unemployment rate is very low and they can't find other work.

The artist models lately have seemed to be just guys/bands that Gibson's Cesar Gueikian loves!
@Rhett 51:50 not true sir... at the beginning of your "Why New Bands Don't Play Gibson Guitars" video you were looking at the BC Rich Warlock and said "that's pretty sick". i remember that because i have that same guitar lol
For me, a big part of buying an american guitars is supporting american jobs. I'll definitely be shopping used, if at all, for Fenders in the foreseeable future.
Gibson made an amazing Les Paul Standard bass back in the 90s. They subsequently ruined it by changing the bridge, then making the body larger.
Dylan's "Source" and conjecture: They're selling $1.5k-$2k like hotcakes, it's unsold Squier stock
Fender CEO, like a month or two before: "Our highest demand are custom shop and squier, it's actually the US lines where the demand is softening."
I mean...Dylan is all guesses.
And it's silly for guitar "news" sites to lead with his video lol.
unsold stock of Fender Sunburst - record players, mens rings, cowboy hats, studio monitors, etc. 😂
Fender must be sitting on a lot of inventory. I bought an amp when Sweetwater was allowed 10% off. Black Friday & Cyber Monday happened & now 12 days of Deals. They look to be trying to move product.
The Gene Simmons Bass Should Have Been A Ripper-That1s What He1s Playin On The Cover Of Kiss Alive!-Agree With You Both
I wonder if Fender is gearing up to be sold. I don't see how they'd have major financial issues based on recent sales, but I can see how they would be a very attractive brand to buy for a corporation with deep enough pockets.
I love you two 😘

Willie plays Baldwin Amps.
In my short and not so fruitful career working for the man, I experienced gigantic lay-offs like the one you describe at Fender as a precurssor to the company preparing to sell. See, they want to cut their labor costs to get the expense numbers on paper as low as possible to make their operating budget appear (allbeit artificially) small. This way the company looks more profitable. Maybe this is one of those things they teach you at MBA school.
Seems part of it is that for a while, it was hard to find new models in shops.
Now they caught up, a bit late, and some dealers have excess.
Add to that, they have raised prices. Probably not a good idea.
It does seem a lot of this is mismanagement.
And they were gonna raise prices again, but that has been postponed
You guys are so cool. I'm thinking about taking all the transformers out of all my $99 Sm57s so I can sound like I dropped $400 each on them just like you. How much would you pay for a relic job on an SM7B lol
My favorite guitar is still my simple but great fender broadcaster I think firing John Cruz over a dumb Facebook post was a huge mistake. I hope they make the right choices.
Mark earliwine dans cuz been keeping trigger together all these years - guitar resurrection in Austin- willie gets real pissy about it - ask Jerry Jeff walker
"Rockin' Los Angeles since 751"
Norman's is really old ...
Seems like Fender’s Mexican Guitar prices have gone up and the perceived value of those guitars has risen much faster than the American ones to the point that many say there is now only a negligible difference. I could see them just charging the same and moving more production to Mexico
Fender bring back my 400$ blues jr and the 250$ Mexican strats
I think Gibson has no interest in making affordable instruments with their name. They’ve committed to being premium and epiphone sell well in that category.
I played a fender recently at a store and the qc was worse than my affinity bronco.
Wow, I feel special, My comments got liked, and I thought I was being pissed...
Everyone is doing RIFs now (Reduction in force). Except, of course, for Amazon's engineering teams. They seem to be gobbling up everyone getting RIFfed and, I presume, will filter them out according to competency.
I'm super lost on the treble bleed thing. I could have sworn that Rhett and Zack spent a portion of an episode talking about how much they disliked treble bleeds, but now they like them? And Zack is making a changeable one. Did they just change their mind, or am I misremembering?
Zach here. So, I had a few guitars that changed my mind. It's still not for every guitar or every player but in some instances I really do enjoy what they can do to a taper. So, yeah minds got changed :)
I think Fender escaped QC scrutiny because anything that isn't the body or finish is easily fixed/replaced. Neck pockets off, get a new neck🤷🏻♂️
Supply and demand .. they are running a business
Trigger is probably more glue and filler than wood and guitar at this point..lol..the stories it could tell....
Rick Danko.
Did I say something wrong? Seems like I got shadowbanned/blacklisted, or at least the comment was blocked, but maybe YT is just being weird?
Man, I love you this show a lot. But the “click” sound for a censor is so annoying. I get you’re trying to be more family friendly but that new addition is a tad annoying. It’s not just you guys, all censors but me.
As I said, you guys keep it up. Love the show.
I was similarly annoyed by those clichéd censorious noises. I appreciate it makes sense for a kids' channel like Agufish, aimed at 13 year olds with parents who spend money. However I always thought this was a grownup place, with a relatively small adult audience who enjoy hearing Rhett and Zach talk casually, normally and unfiltered. As an Englishman working in mainstream American media, I get enough of the absurd pandering that prevents me from describing a certain former executive office holder as a "hypocritical, thin-skinned, pissy little bitch" when that suits the circumstances. This is a pretty niche podcast, and until these folks can be bothered to turn up *every* fucking week like anyone and everyone else who takes podcasting seriously - I think the small but loyal audience deserves the raw and unfiltered edit, at least until there's a legitimate reason to moderate tone and content, in line with US mainstream expectations!
Join the patreon and you can watch the unfiltered live, pre-edit of the show. We're just trying to reach everyone and be considerate to the people who've asked us to do something. Damned if we do, damned if we don't with most folks seems like.
I would imagine a lot of the layoffs are due to California’s mandates and fender can’t make much profit with the California tax policies. Look at all of the companies that have left that state due to these things.
Nobody had a problem with Paul having 3 different makers of basically the same guitar (Ibanez Iceman with quasi-Iceman version from Washburn and Silvertone) why the problem with Gene and Gibson?
The Gene Simmons bass is a great bass! If they took his name and the skull logo off it, and people just looked at the specs, a lot of people wouldn't have an issue with it. It's not the bass version of a pointy guitar. The price isn't outrageous, either. It's certainly not a lawyer guitar.
Go try one.
Gibson even used the Mustaine silhouette logo on the back of the headstock. 😆🤦 If anyone saw Fricker's review of Mustaine's Gibson V. For a $3000 Gibson it was seriously lacking.
don't forget Fender's lawsuit in Europe...
Most of this conversation appears to be based on Internet postings and other, perhaps, unreliable sources. I would take this entire discussion with a grain of salt.
Fender should be farm to table USA ,
@Rhett...younger kids don't like rock or metal that much. The ones that do... listen to the anthems we grew up with. All these companies have to lean on the old school stuff...all the new stuff no one cares about.
squire
To me it sounds like they have big debt issues
Speaking of "signature models" I have no idea who 95% of Gibson, Fender or PRS endorsers are. Even if I pay an extra $2,000 for some "rock icon's" name on the headstock it would not make me sound like him and definitely wouldn't make me famous.
Fender makes both wise and super stupid decisions, like all of us...
I’m viewing this video in february ‘23: look how Fender f****d up some of their bass models, like they’re absolute beginners..., 🤣.
Fender workers should strike, immediately
For what they have a job . look around good paying jobs are hard to find right now times are not good

But, wait. We're supposed to support you in our guitar community, but you don't want to listen to other opinions???
Love the video/podcast but Im guessing you (and I) have no idea what is happening. Bad decisions and mismanagement arent the same thing. Maybe Sweetwater or Guitar Center pulled a million orders; who knows.

I’m the bassist in super secret band from Pdx and we released our first single last year featuring Tyrone Hendrix on drums (Jimi Hendrix cousin)
We sold out in the first day affording us to shoot a music video for the release and further fund the band
We are now touring with van and trailer and we didn’t have to sell our music thru a distributor or label to make a profit on a release
We are not beholden to anyone in the industry and have full ownership of our songs and productions

Does anybody need a guitar from china🎸✌🏻
Funny thing is I am starting to hear that recent Squires from Indonesia are not as high quality, as the ones that used to come from China.
The only reason anyone “needs” a guitar from China is if it is all they can afford.
Uhhh, Fender has been run by the bean counters since CBS took over!
