I met Zack on Saturday at Carter's Vintage in Nashville, and it felt exactly how Josh is describing. It was really cool, but also awkward, I knew who he was, he knew nothing about me. We actually joked about a pedal that I bough (mjolnir) that Zack signed, but first practiced on the box; and I promised I wouldn't sell it to Josh, and one of the Carter's employees sings "He Has The Box." We laughed and I tried to politely say goodbye, because I didn't want to interrupt his day and Zack was all, "no its cool" and we kept talking for another five or ten minutes. Thanks for making a memorable Saturday even cooler Zack!
Man, if I ever had the opportunity to meet Josh Scott, I could listen to him go into excruciating detail of pedals, their differences, how they work, etc for hours on end. His passion for the subject is unparalleled and is inspiring.
I had seen a video or two of JHS before I listened to this podcast a couple months ago, but this interview with Josh is what got me hooked on JHS lol, I’ve now watched and listened to a ton of his older live videos. Super informative and entertaining. Thanks for this interview!
Josh sounds like an excellent leader. You don't have to be the best at everything. Just surround yourself with people who just love doing that thing and put them in that role that neither you nor anyone else could fill. You find joy in finding that which you can't do and then finding someone for whom that is their jam. Textbook quality leadership.
Never thought about the show being like myth busters maybe that's why I love it so much. I appreciate all the work that everyone does for the community and for knowledge! Thank y'all!
This was insanely helpful, as a business person....Josh has some really sage advice for any creative person in business: Good brand, be true to yourself, stick around, make what you love.
This is 1 of my favs ever!!!! But, man, Dipped in Tone After Dark - oh that needs to be a thing!!! Thank you three. Josh got his pedal start right here in Jackson, MS - where he just left Patrick and myself! (he would not remember me, but he knows Patrick!). Love to you all! This was amazing
I got my first DS-1 when i was maybe 13 in around 1997. Now, I have a full blown pedal addiction... I have probably over 60 pedals, mostly Boss. I want to start modding and building pedals now, and Josh is a true inspiration.
Fantastic interview. So many times I wanted to be a part of this conversation! The three of you are such a positive wealth of knowledge about pedals and what's exciting about them. As much as I love the pedals themselves, I really enjoy the lore and the history and the stories about them.
Guys, how on Earth have I not subscribed to this channel until today. Shame on me. But I fixed that obvious faux pas. You two are amazing and now I’ll be binge watching episodes!!! This one was terrific. The interplay between the three of you was so much fun to see and the topics and discussion were interesting and captivating from the first moment right through to the end.
I relate so much to the conversation about business and social media, and how things are so rapidly changing. Rapid tech changes have helped me in some ways, exhausted me in others.
For my money, the most interesting and engaging chat you guys have had - thanks also to Josh especially...totally agree on the "brand" topic....also not surprised, but surprised that you have the experience that "people think they know you, because they've seen you for years"......I'd have said, I love what you guys do on UA-cam, I see glimpses of the "kind" of people you probably truly are, something about some of your "drivers" and "principles", and I trust these aspects.....beyond that, I don't know you at all.....which in my view is how it should be.....thanks again.....
Thanks for this good episode. A really informative and entertaining interview. But it wasn't just Josh that made it quality. You guys have good questions and a great interview style. Thanks for that!
Josh is totally right. A friend of mine worked for PV and for fender for a total of almost 20 years. He said they had a lot of conversations about how important brand loyalty is.
Loved this chat. I did feel like I was watching a therapy session sometimes! Disappointed there wasn't a slide guitar challenge in there somewhere! Great job guys.
Any musician who records and mixes their own stuff knows that after playing it 100 times while recording, then listening to it 1,000 times while trying to get the mix right, you're pretty much done with it for a while!! So we can relate to the "building" process for sure.
Before it came out, i was at a guitar show in Dallas. Visiting my fav vintage pedal dealer, lol. I seen josh searching through his Ross pedals, and telling allthe variations of them. Wanted to stand and listen but didnt want to be rude. Lol, so i moved along. I had an idea something might be going on. Lol
So funny that Rhett sent an email asking for an artist endorsement deal! I am older than all of you, but when I was a young musician, I sent a letter in the mail to a major Christian band, asking them where we could get some money to buy some equipment 😂 of course I never got a response
I totally messaged some pedal brands early on in my music. I wanted them to check out my music bc I felt the guitar community would understand what I was doing musically but some of the companies thought I just wanted an endorsement and free stuff. Lol it was super awkward bc I didn't care about shout outs or free stuff. My manager at the time wasn't a lot of help either.
I really enjoyed this episode. So many great pointers for people doing something they can be proud of. Just one observation - with all of the state of the art gear, how come Josh's mic sounds so terrible? I heard it first on the podcast and assumed he was talking into an old set of wired Apple earphones... :-)
Oh hell yes! Hey Zach, I’ve been a prod owner of a wildwood Mjolnir. And recently just bought a standard one in summer vibes color way. Looking forward to playing around with the subtle differences
I guess the only brand in existence in pedal land where the product itself is bigger than the brand might be Xotic. I’ve been using some of their products for almost two decades, but I don’t know much about the brand. No faces, no names, no nothing. About ten years ago I learned for the first time that two of my favorite bassists were using their pedals and basses. That’s what I learned about the brand Xotic so far. Because of UA-cam I learned about Nashville ‘s music and history and the many guitarplayers that use(d) Xotic RC and AC boosters too. About ten years before that I was just looking for a nice sounding soft clipping tone and boost pedal. A musicstore I loved had me try out the Bass RC Booster. They let me take it home for a few weeks, use it on gigs. I was hooked! I did not know anything about the brand untill ten years later. But, I guess the three of you are right for almost every other brand. What I like about you guys is that there’s this great intelligent mix of humor (not the cheap kind...) and all the serious stuff. That’s how I learn and how I try to teach myself. It has become a big part of the three ‘brands’ you guys represent, I think. Sometimes Rhett might be a little too much of a serious guy, though 🤣. He might loosen up a bit, 😉. Just kidding! Love what you all do! Love the ‘ugly’ Tele, Rhett. She’ll be in the best hands with you. 🍀 🖖
Great ep. Really resonant words spoken, indirectly to me. Also man Dipped After Dark as a Patreon exclusive would be a damned good idea. Get some more patrons, get some more rigs to dip. Win win.
To Josh’s point… I do feel like I know you guys because I watch all your videos… it must be weird when you guys meet people and they aren’t self aware enough to dial that feeling back and they act like they have known you forever. Anyway… you guys are all great… thanks for everything.
13:30 re: Ken Burns. Crazy good, but not just 10-12 hours: he innovated new techniques and created masterpieces that will be in the Smithsonian (or similar) for the ages. I believe The Vietnam War took 10 years with a budget of $30m.
Also… I’m such an old person it makes me cringe when people refer to a podcast as “the pod”. I know it’s because I’m elderly and pedantic but the pod is what you use to listen to the cast. iPod. And I still use one for car tests. Only because my current car didn’t come with a CD player. 😂 Hashtag HonoraryBoomer
If I like the person who made a pedal- or who owns the company who made it- that's great- but it's totally beside the point as well. In reality- I care about one thing- what it sounds like- that's it. I don't even pay attention to durability or any of that stuff- does it sound good? Yes? I want it. The truth is it's going on my board where it's going to be controlled through a gig switch, MIDI, or my modeler- I'm not going to be stomping on it. It will be mounted, turned on, set, and left alone. Sometimes- quiet often actually- I take the knobs off once I get it set. Just as a reminder to not start tweaking it while jamming with anyone- because if I do, if I touch the shiny, red, candy like buttons- I will be lost in pedal land for hours. And with all that said- it should be a real compliment to JHS that I use their pedals almost exclusively- not because I like Josh, not because I like the show or Nick or because I live 30-40 miles from Belgreen (Josh's hometown) and have met him while he was managing Norris Music- but because they truly sound better than anything else I've tried. And- that's been consistent- when I'm buying overdrives, compressors, reverbs, etc.- the JHS stuff just sounds better 9 times out of 10. I will say Wampler gives them a hell of a run when it comes to overdrives but- that's mainly because JHS doesn't have a Klon on the market. Make a Klon already Josh- you teased it at one point. You guy's had one at one time I hear- make it again. But- make it a Klon run into an amp sim and cab- so we can go DI with it or turn the amp and cab off and go into an amp. That way you're not leaving anyone out- you know it would sell. Make it a Bassman and whatever cab you use- ppl would be all over it.

That is a great story. Nice to know we are giving our time and money to genuinely nice and passionate guys.

“We live in a cesspool of opinion.” sums up why I love this man. Thank you Zach, Rhett, and Josh for this video. I needed this.
Josh sounds like an excellent leader. You don't have to be the best at everything. The crossover we needed
Almost as good as Ninja Turtles meet Batman. Still nowhere near as cool as Globetrotters on Scooby Doo.
The brutal honesty about the UA-cam platform, and the candidness of each speaker, makes this one of my favorite interviews.
Creating the monster.. 🙃
Never thought about the show being like myth busters maybe that's why I love it so much. I appreciate all the work that everyone does for the community and for knowledge! Thank y'all!

Having heard Josh talk about other companies and builders for so long, I really appreciated his willingness to be in the spotlight on this one!
I’ve really enjoyed this video. JHS is right, we as the viewers feel a connection to you guys. We feel like we know you guys.
I got my first DS-1 when i was maybe 13 in around 1997. Now, I have a full blown pedal addiction... I have probably over 60 pedals, mostly Boss. I want to start modding and building pedals now, and Josh is a true inspiration.
That was dope. Josh is the most genuine, influential, sincere dude out there representing what we're all here for! Great episode my dudes.. Cheers

Fantastic interview. Josh’s story is amazing.
Soooo interesting! Please do more talks about being an introvert and leading companies/entrepreneurship with Josh... I so can relate to that!
Josh is a special person; long may he live!
A very bright balanced guy.
“a cesspool of opinion”

Another great podcast. Thanks guys. How about an episode featuring the one and only David Grissom!?
"shredding' for the Lord"! - piss myself laughing.
What an Inspiring discussion. Easily my favorite episode to date. Keep up the good work!

Shreddin’ for the Lord! Haha! There’s a pretty sweet video of Rhett playing How He Loves on his 335 with a choir on UA-cam.
Great interview!!

Great interview! I love the shop talk/therapy session format
Rhett needs a sig JHS fuzz called the Sick Burn
JHS makes a dual pedal called the Slide Tone. One side says Rhett the other side says Actual Good Tone.
So funny that Rhett sent an email asking for an artist endorsement deal! I am older than all of you, but when I was a young musician, I sent a letter in the mail to a major Christian band, asking them where we could get some money to buy some equipment 😂 of course I never got a response
an STP sticker is what that Tele needs. When I was in grade school in 1968 everybody put the STP stickers on their lunch boxes and bicycle seats
This was a good one! The best thing to come from misfit island in a good way y’all rawk!!
🤘😎🤘
A matchup we all needed
Listened to the podcast. Really enjoyed it
The Three Musicteers... BEST EVER!!!❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
This is awsome , really enjoyed this fellas. Thanks 😊
He was supposed to be on TAVA a while back and it never happened 😢😢😢😢😢
48:21 I love collaborating. Collaborating means it’s not my fault 🤦♀️
1:12:37 On the subject of the 5 levels of Tele video, that synth in the intro is killer.

Mjolnir is a badass pedal. 🔥🔥🔥
And Josh knows each and every story each pedal has to tell
Love the part in the end about "enjoying" not being liked - Embrace your inner Wrestling Heel!!
Great episode
Great episode guys!
this was fantastic!
Great one my dudes 🤘💀🤘

How dare you not dip a rig with Josh Scott!
We need new submissions!
Dipped in Darkness
Great conversation with Josh! Thanks!

Great ep. Really resonant words spoken, indirectly to me. Also man Dipped After Dark as a Patreon exclusive would be a damned good idea. Get some more patrons, get some more rigs to dip. Win win.
Josh is king of dry self-deprecating humor.
A lot of people give Josh crap but he is arguably the most important figure in pedal culture.
You should have dipped a rig with Josh!
I think Josh is slowly becoming the NEW Jim Dunlop :-)
Zach: thanks for helping me with my Stew Mac Screamer!
How does that proton pack sound when you run a guitar through it?
'Shred'n 4 da lord' needs to be a shirt 😂
We'll....
Just... tank you guys.
A JHS vs Rhett vs Dylan Adams slide battle must happen!
Just started watching I wonder if he will have a shot at your slide playing 😂
I want a Proton Pack Pedal
I saw a used Ross equalizer at Sam Ash yesterday

It's a butterscotch tele... Call it Scotty!!
Seems like a documentary like the Ross one might work on Curiosity Stream or Nebula. Talk to Adam Neely.
Dippin in The Dark
Didn't dip a rig? Come on!!
Awesome interview though. Thanks
Do Dipped After Dark during the presidential debate. That would be much less bullshit.
Where is Pedals, The Musical part 2?
17:46 You guys need to do ads for each other's channels.
Wait, did they not dip a rig?!?! Madness...
We need updated rigs!
Shreddin for the lord😂
🎯
Bring back Lovetone! Please!
you should call that tele "Ugly Betty"... It's so ugly that it's actually kinda cool lol
the current mood hoodie is for the real ones
22:30 - this is why I buy mythos
If no one plays any slide guitar I’m burning my phone in a trash can.
Josh needs a pedal painted like the TARDIS. It reads yes, it’s bigger on the inside….
"People are always not gonna like me." .....in Josh we trust.

I disagree with the titles and thumbnails that brings me to watch your shows.
Welcome to UA-cam my friend
May I suggest starting a podcast on point rather than personal chit chat ….
Well this one has been going for 3 years so maybe one day we'll get around to making a real podcast.
😂Or just do your podcast the way you want to do your podcast. ❤
I prefer the chit-chat to the interviews personally. I like JHS and Josh we need more dips and shills from Zach and Rhett :)
