Rig dipping is one of my favorite parts of the show. It would be fun if you guys did a rig dipping marathon and just did like 5 really different rigs as one show. Whatever you decide to do, I’m here for it! Thanks guys!
A "pike" is , as Zac said, "a pointy stick". A "turnpike" was a pole, built on a swivel (or the ends could be rested in a cradle) that had several short pointy sticks mounted to the pole, so no one traveling by horse, would dare barrel through with the toll unpaid. Eventually "turnpike" became the name for a tollroad and not the gate mechanism itself.
Pls put "If Peavey made a truck I'd buy it" on a shirt. That has to be one of my favorite moments from this podcast HAHA.

Yeah, never know what these lunatics will talk about, but often entertaining, It's the randomness that makes it fun.
My suggestion is you guys should hold guitars more and riff/noodle a bit here and there in the context of the show ... give us some cool guitars and nice tones to see/hear.

Guys I really appreciate the info on the sm57 being fine on Phantom power. I have a few in my studio and my 18i20 interface does phantom in blocks of 4 pres at a time, so I have my drum overheads and my Di on 1 block with an open unused mic pre that I'm now gonna stick 1 of those 57s on so I can take advantage of all 8 inputs not just 7 and not have to by another condenser til I'm ready. Much appreciated and great rigs guys...🎸🤘🙏

Dang Rhett haven't seen that Novo out in awhile... nice to see you back "home" ;). Two great rigs. I admit my board is a lot more like Rhett's but last practice I took two guitars and an amp (which has a boost built in) and still made it work.
I’m glad big things are coming to the show. I would rate both your rigs at like 9.5 Shoyles. I’m just as happy with a massive rig with loads of sound potential for sound scapes and looping but a stripped back rig makes you play so differently. Interacting with just a good amp, a good guitar, an OD and a slap back (and maybe a slide?) is so satisfying. Keep it up y’all. The show is aces x

Personally yes, and I've never explicitly noticed that about myself until you said that. It's a good perspective shift.
It's like if you're not using it, you've wasted the money you paid for it, the time it took to wire it into the board, and the time it took to get a good sound out of it.

I would love to see a Mythos Wah! IMO its a great pedal to have internal trim pots for tweaking sounds. There's no way I'm tweaking those settings on the fly at a gig!

Comes down to chops, ears, and knowledge. Since I couldn’t figure out how to use either rig, I’ll stick with mine, which is a Highway One Strat, and a simple overdrive, chorus, and delay.

Honestly - I enjoy the friendly banter. It's genuine (you guys really seem to like each other) and entertaining. Now - WRT the rigs - I give Zach 8.8 and Rhett a 7.5. I won't go into the details lest I look like an idiot (its all subjective) but suffice it to say I lean towards a more "classic" setup. Cheers!!

I wasnt sure about Zach's tone and Les Paul until I heard that riff at 33:07....heard that and went "mmmm yeah that's the stuff" (I'm not really a Les Paul guy to begin with)
Epiphone was made in America until 1970, but Leon Rhodes had an American Sheraton made in maybe 78 and they had a run of Rivieras in 93.
I think both rigs are pretty outstanding. However, I would beg Rhett to try putting his Univibe in front of all of his dirt. IMHO, the sound is way more three-dimensional, deep, and throbbing, and not so swishy and harsh. Please try it!

Zack’s score would be: 9.25. Deducted points for no modulation and no single coil guitar. I like the klon and klon clone sound and use an archer on my board. Like echo; good pedal in the re202, but I prefer the starlight echo. Amp sounds great and I’d use that amp or similar type amp. So add an hss strat or a nice vintage sounding tele. Also add a chorus or other modulation pedal, and you’d have a perfect score. Great rig
LS swapping the truck! Thankfully, if you have the labor portion down, it's not hard to get parts for an LS swap. The aftermarket is huge for it.
Especially for the Sqaurebody, so many options!

Rhett: 8.2 Zach: 9.5. I'm biased toward simpler setups and playing live, so keep that in mind with my ratings. Both of you guys have great amps and guitars, though at the end of the day I prefer the Two Rock to the /13. (I play a Serus J primarily through a handwired Deluxe or Princeton.) I'm not a huge fan of Rhett's fuzz choices (it wouldn't sound good with my playing), and while I own the Automatone, I actually prefer some of my other pedals to it (my live board has a Lightspeed, Box of Rock, and Bender). I really dig the simplicity of Zach's setup, although he could use a fuzz or maybe a boost, but all things considered, the sounds Zach got hit me right in the feels.
PS. Please find a way to get Jason Isbell on the show. The dude is a total guitar nerd and an episode with him would be...freaking amazing.

Long shot, but crossover episode with Matt Norlander? He's a college basketball writer for CBS, guitar player, and has a music podcast called Records & Riffs. He was the guy who during march madness had the "Guster is for Lovers" sticker on his laptop sitting courtside that went viral enough for him to meet the band. Could be some great crossover pod content!
Rhett: 9.0 Great base sounds with some amazing layers to get lost in.
Zach: 7.0 Dry gain and distortion is not my favorite sound, and while it sounded great, I want a lot more modulation.
question: after chasing tone to get the woods, the p'ups the vintage guitar,the amp, now you are running thru all those electronics. WHAT'S UP with that.

A wahpisode would be good , iv had a few wahs along the way but don't know how "throw" is a part of it . Be interesting .

In regards to what we want to see, don't, etc. I'm all for you guys evolving to whatever vision you have for this. It's your thing, do with it what you will. I will say, that the feel is the most important thing. This feels like 2 friends talking about whatever, which also usually has some kind of guitar part to it. The dynamic between the two of you is what I listen for. Adding additional people could be great, but the hangout vibe still needs to be there. In the 'live' episode at sweet water that disappeared. I get why, it's a weird scenario, but losing the random car talk, or Nashville restaurant rant, etc killed the vibe, and it didn't feel like a hangout anymore, it felt like a production. Whatever you choose to do, if you could lean toward keeping the feel the same that would be awesome.

Rett’s score is: 8.0. Points are deducted for not having 2 guitars; need a single coil and a humbucker guitar. Lost points for the hx, interface, and mkii pre. But you gained points for having a fuzz but i’d change how it sounds slightly. Like that you have modulation and echo. Amp is nice, not quite how I’d set it but I would use an amp like that. So simplifying it some and having 2 guitars would boost your score. Nice rig.

What I would like to see on the show in the future: A drunken debate about who was the greatest guitarist ever.

Using SDP (Standard Dipping Protocol), I think you should probably deduct at least .3 points per rig simply because you don't have a backup guitar.... despite one of you having, like 27 (rough guess here) available and the other one having a entire freakin' guitar manufacturing wing right next door. ;)
The sounds Rhett was getting on that Germany session are right on. Very cool, very creative. I hear the idea of option paralysis, but I Love how he’s using sounds like a Producer.

Both rigs are great. I’d likely take Zach’s over Rhett’s because it’s a less complicated. I think I could get by with the top or bottom tier of Rhett’s pedalboard

It's so funny when it comes to pedal builders boards. If you ran mythos pedals people would comment how you're only playing you're own pedals when it's circuits you obviously liked enough to make. You have no mythos pedals in the chain and people comment on it. It's a lose lose lol.

Damn Zach barely using any pedals, which isn't a bad thing but wasn't really expecting that. For like 10 years i only had like 2-3 pedals, but now it's 7 pedals soon to be 8. I like what Rhett's doing with creating soundscapes with pedals, I love the ambient soundscapes I see people creating these days. Thats what i'm aiming for along with the traditional fuzz's and distortions. Hopefully Rhett will seduce Zach to the dark side of cozy ambient tones.
Rhetts Rig: 9/10 My only dislike is the Nova guitar, they're just so ugly and I love jazzmasters/offsets
Zach's Rig: 7/10 needs some more pedals to play with besides guitar/amp and like 2 pedals. Complete boomer blues rig which isn't bad but would get boring quickly - did he even have a delay?
Though I will agree that the Catalyst is a pretty cool amp. Played one recently at sam ash to test a guitar and was really impressed by it, its a great amp to bring anywhere and have overdrive, distortion, delay, reverb and different amp models. Honestly helped change my mindset towards modeling amps. Might get one someday.
p-90s definitely better than PAF in my opinion.
