Yeah dude... this is a whole lot cooler than having to buy that $50 wire harness and still having to splice into the harness behind the radio. Props out to that "Estudious Dude" you got hanging out with you! Seems like a really cool bro to have on the team! Keep up the good work bro's. See you on the trails soon hopefully! PEACE

man ive been looking for the wire from the original harness and have not found it but now you gave me the great idea to run my own wire to the sw control from my aftermarket headset by the way i HAVE SAME HEADSET AS cRIS IM GOIMG TO TRY IT TOMORROW ON MY 2004 NISSAN TITAN THANKS BRO
Idk if it's infrared and the wire activates the sensor or the wire itself pulses at various resistances for each function of the steering wheel controller
Wow this is incredible! Thank you so much for posting this Believe it or not I mistook the wiring under the steering wheel for the cruise control I had no idea that those volume controls even worked or were there! I have a 2001 thanks
I've been following you for months if my mouth wasn't hanging open so wide and all your tips at her commented a lot sooner. Thank you so much for this rare and unique footage and instruction that I have yet to find on UA-cam and that's hard to find! Thanks najar off-road
Good video, thanks man. Have a question is there a way you n Chris can make a video of how he did his steering wheel configuration. As I have that same unit an im having trouble with mines
Hey just question to ask it works only that yellow and red steering wheel control to jeep year 2002 or 2000 how about for honda pilot year 2005 do you think it will work also?
I have what might be a really, really dumb question: That red and yellow wire that leads from the harness at the steering wheel MUST end up in the radio compartment where it controlled the OEM radio, right? So why not just tap into it in the radio compartment?
My 2000 has a yellow/red pci bus wire that was connected to the back of the factory stereo. Is that used for SWC? If so, can I just directly splice into that wire?
Thanks for the helpful video, I'm a first time installer of an aftermarket radio in my 02 jeep grand Cherokee Overland. Was wondering how the swc was going to get hooked up, easy one wire hookup. Mabe the factory sub will be one wire also. Still need to buy a high frequency through for the tweeters.
This is really awesome, But my question is with the kita like the aswc-1 by metra, Why is all that extra stuff necessary in the kit? When it's just this easy to do? And by the way my stereo only has s w c cable? Will that work?
Thank you! Been driving myself crazy on this, I have the same radio as Chris (but different software) and no luck. Except I was trying to tap in with the same blue connector you had, which might explain it! Gonna try a direct connection like you recommended. Just to check, you didn't need to connect anything to KEY GND? I grounded that one out, and not sure if that's giving me a problem too.
@@NajarOffroad took out the splice and connected directly like you mentioned, everything works perfectly now! Turns out I had the exact same issue with that scotch lock not making proper contact with my wire. You have no idea how long I'd been trying to fix this haha, thanks for mentioning it!
@@NajarOffroad Chris radio looks like mine and there is a section on the radio where you can control your ac. Something about a CANBUS Settings I Think? Or do you need to connect key 2? and where is key 2 on a Jeep? Similar to this one but on a 9 inch. ua-cam.com/video/b-6D57T7rd8/v-deo.html
Just wanted to share with people. You DO NOT have to tear Into the steering column. You can just tap into the wire on PIN 14 on the factory wire harness while you are in there anyways. Can confirm it works.
@@codegreen5213 I bought my radio from Crutchfield and it came with an install guide for the steering wheel controls. It said you could splice in to pin 14 on the factory harness.
Good content as always! Just did this today and only the left steering wheel control works . I try to relearn the right side and seems not working. Any tips?
Hi there guys, any of you found the solution? For me the three bottoms on the left work, but on the right only the middle one works, un and down don’t work.
Having the exact same issue: On the right side only the middle one works! Scratching my head a lot! Any of you guys get it solved?? I have a T-tap on the red/yellow wire and it seems to work fine enough for 4 out of 6 buttons to work. But maybe it's not making good enough contact for the upper/lower ones on the right side to be recognized? Not very plausible, since all left side works fine and even one from right side. Read somewhere that it may be the native resistance values from some keys that are too close or out of range for the head unit to recognize them and this would need an inline resistor to be added in original wire. Don't want to go in a goose chase so any help would be highly appreciated! Cheers
Another great video man, love the WJ stuff! Any idea if steering controls can be added? My 04 FREEDOM edition does not have them unfortunately and it’s a feature I’m really missing!
Hi Najar, installation done ✅ Thank you again for this useful video. One thing, so at the end did you disconnect completely the red & yellow cable to connect it to the red one? I just added it with disconnect the red and yellow But Strangely, I can program most button, just not the up and down on the right side steer wheel, witch is normally for volume Thx again Regards from Switzerland

I also have a Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 from EU market (WG) and a no-brand chineses android radio. I followed the wiring instructions on this video (but I sticked with the T-tap connector) and ran the SWC learning on the head unit settings menu it worked partially. All 3 left side buttons work fine but only the middle one works on the right side. Very intriguing!! better than nothing but still scratching my head for solution

Yea The person who told me how to do this did it the same way. You can definitely check where the wire goes and connect it behind the radio. Either way it works and that’s what matters 😂
why wouldnt you tap into the harness behind the radio rather than under the steering wheel. btw this only works with the low end budget radios and those cheap chinese radios. wont work with th top 5 pioneer kenwood jvc sony alpine in the us. now if you were in oz they allow it.
