I did just end up buying fobs for a few bucks on amazon and only a single doorman kit. All in I’m 80 bucks for the doorman programmer, 2 fobs, 2 uncut keys, and I’ll do the same transponder zip tie method as you!

I can confirm that the Dorman key fob works on 1999 model year WJs, even though the packaging says 2000-2004

Good stuff Bro. My '04 WJ only came with one key and fob when I bought it 4 years ago, the dealer told me it'd be 200 bucks for a new one. I'm gonna go this route, thanks! Hebrews 13:16!

If you have 2 original keys you can program 4 new ones by using the onboard computer. The instructions are in the Jeep owners manual. Also, if placing the key on top of the SKIM module doesn't work you can make an induction coil using some fine wire.

Hey Dan. I did this last summer for my 2.7 crd WJ/WG. But I rememoved chip from old key and there is a little space for it in new case, nearby of the rotation cener of case. I have the same key case as you. I did that from a spare part key I bought on UK ebay for a few £. Important is mhz value!!! For reprogramming fob I used wjdiagpro android app (developed primary for merc. crds costs around 20$) and simple obd scanner for 5$ also must be compatible!!!

As much as you love your WJs, you should just get a DRBIII and get the vehicle PIN from your local stealership service dept (free with proof of ownership). You may the program real transponder keys and new fobs, simple as pie.

I have an OBD2 Bluetooth adapter and I use an app called OBD JScan. It allows you to read and adjust a lot of parameters on the computer as well as program new keys. It's $23.99 per VIN but the price goes down the more licenses you buy at once. It may or may not work on older Jeeps. Either way it has a bunch of fantastic features. You can download and try the app, there is a demo mode so you can see what there is for all of the supported vehicles. I just checked but unfortunately the WJ is not supported but it could be someday.

I got an extra transponder key made at my local Walmart, cut and skim programmed, as long as you have 1 key you're good. They cost $67 at Walmart with the cut and skim programming. All they did was put the old and the new key in the machine then 3 minutes later the new key is programmed. 01 WJ laredo.

Ordered the Dorman off Amazon and it wouldn't do the new supplied keyfob but the old one still works, even though I tried to reprogram that too
Nice! When I bought my 04 Overland it had 2 keys and no fobs. Just left eBay, Dorman 13778 headed my way.

So you don't have to remove the key from the fob at home depot. Any key cutter that you just insert the key into a machine will work with it in the fob

I don’t know if this works with Jeeps since I only have one. With older Fords, you can cut a key for two vehicles. Our family had several in the past. Just cut the key on one side for each vehicle. You still have to worry about the chip and which side of the key starts the car you’re in but at least it’s one less key to carry
These Keys are much more specific. They have to be exact

Different programming. You need a chip and fob combo from Ebay

Not sure about the remote start.. it was installed by previous owners.. I zip tied a skim key into the column

Great video! My Jeep never had a remote locking fob when I bought it used. Your video was the little push I needed to finally get one. I followed the link to the exact product you posted on Amazon and installed it with a small amount of trouble. I finally got it working, but the range is terrible! I literally have to stand right next to the passenger or driver side door for it to work. It would have been nice if it at least reached at the tailgate, what gives??

So after watching this I laughed so hard at the other people who have literally cut their keys open to get that chip out and put them into the aftermarket key fobs like you bought. Yet you place the key under the steering wheel on top of the module. Smart thinking.. 🤣😎🤯

Hah, no i know why passenger side door is all misaligned, as for the key fob you just remove the chip from the old key and insert it on the flip key fob , it has a groove that the chip fits perfectly. !!

I watched it CAREFULLY. You got lucky with the coat hanger only. I couldn't get it to work for me.
What DID WORK was the coat hanger AND my shoelace.
After straightening the coathanger I tied the shoelace around the "twisty" end of the coathanger.
Inserted the coathanger with shoelace and as I pushed the coathanger in and down I worked the shoelace towards the sideview mirror. When I got the coathanger on the "Unlock button" I Gently pulled on the shoelace toward the sideview mirror and popped the door open.
PS: I DID NOT have any sort of "plastic clipboard"! Wrapped my Leatherman in a sock!
I was a 1,000 miles from home and all I had was the coathanger and what I "normally" carry on me!

The skim is BS.. I lost my og key n fob.. bought a new one n got it programed.. worked for about a week then started dying out on start..even thought I have brand high cranking battery, alternator n mid-grade starter.. maybe an ECM by this point

I tried this and can't get the fob to work in the new shell to save my life. 🤦🏻♂️ I've made sure the tab from the battery is making connection with the peanut and everything. All fobs worked before transferring over, and worked again when put back in the factory shell.
Dang.. its gotta be the battery contacts.. The biggest issues I had was trimming off all the excess rubber to get the two halves to close, and also making sure that battery contact stayed put while screwing it together.

Bud,....... just 'cut' the transponder out of the original jeep key, and place it in the notched area inside the larger part of the new key fob where it just drops in....... just saying......

Try a new technician! lol.. perhaps its a bad passenger door module, maybe even a bad PCM.. try someone else tho. could be his software. (or use an oem chrysler DRB3 programmer)

What would "keyless entry" mean as it says in Amazon it is only for keyless entry jeeps? I know that usually means that you don't need to use the key to enter you just have to have it close to the jeep, but I haven't seen any WJs with buttons that unlock it, even the one from the video has no button on the door, or at least I didn't see it. Mine is a 98 with the same key fob and I want to know if it would work.
Or is it perhaps a reference to the fob?
Keyless entry means you can unlock it with a Fob and you wont have to put the key in the door

Hey Dan ive got a video idea for you. Can you make a video on programming a Jeep XJ key fob. I been trying to reprogram my and all the videos on UA-cam are almost completely useless.
You need an DRB3 scanner to program, or just replace your dome light circuit board with one already programmed to FOBS
