    Duuude, I was tearing my hair out why the steering wheel controls weren't working! I was switching from alpine so had a conversion kit and connected that at first and the controls were acting weird but after watching this I rewired directly onto the factory cabling and it works like a charm.
    Huge thank you!

    Just finished install of Atoto F7 WE in 2004 F150 and this video is great information.
    The only thing different with my install was the Atoto F7 had TWO wires marked steering wheel key +
    I had to attach BOTH wires to jpulley's harness to get volume and skip tract to work. Using only one
    I could only get one to function at a time.
    Many thanks for the help and BTW the Atoto seems to be a GREAT unit for the money.

    what you're highlighting is the difference between "analog, resistive Steering Wheel Controls" and "CanBus Steering Wheel Controls". older cars use the first (analog) and if so you can use the method you describe, newer cars with Canbus need the black box.

    Hey, thank you for this. On my 2007 F150, I found I had two red/blue wires! And I was tapped into the wrong one. It's pin 18, which is bottom row of the smaller pins in the middle of the plug, three from the left (20-19-18). If you have an ohm meter, go in from the back of the plug, push black into the ground wire and then start touching pins with the red. You will see some resistance and then the needle will pop with each SWC click. Also, on my Atoto A6 I had to hit the Reset button on the learning screen to wipe whatever config it thought was already there. And THEN it recognized each button. Thanks again!

      06 F150 with the Atoto... there are two light blue with red/pink stripes but one of them is for the dimmer (tested with a 12v test light). tried hooking the other to the SW+ but not working. did you do anything with the SW- wire from the unit? Does it need to be grounded for the steering wheel controls to work? Tried resetting and programming but that didn't work either...

    You dont need an interface, you only need a 3.5mm jack connector and connect it to the harness that says steering wheel 3.5mm if applicable
    then the other wires are connected to the
    GROUND with BLACK
    WHITE with GREEN
    RED with RED

      Hey you sound like you're having some progress! I've connected an Atoto f7 xe that I thought was good until my red to red ignition accessory wire powering the radio drains my car battery by not shutting down when the car's turned off. The 3rd party kit adapter is probably the culprit but I needed a different interface to keep steering wheel controls anyway like the maestro that isn't mentioned here. Sure like to do what is shown on video as long as I get an adapter harness that doesn't keep the ignition wires constantly on..!

      I was thinking the same thing. Found the diagram for my truck’s wiring. When my wiring harness gets here, if it doesn’t have a pin where the steering signal comes in, I found videos that show how easy it is to move/add pins to a harness. I’ll steal a pin from a spare harness and add it so the SWC can be connected to the Atoto connector just like all the other wires.

    • @JeffMcNeal
      @JeffMcNeal 4 роки тому +3

      So... I did a little reverse engineering to see what the equivalent of that pin wire is on my vehicle, by looking up yours. Ford makes it easier to identify, by calling it steering wheel control or something to that effect. Whereas Dodge calls it the "PCI bus". Process of elimination tells me that's all this wire can be on my connector. It is also where Axxess says to connect one of their wires. I'm going to try connecting that one to one of the steering wheel control wires from the ATOTO I'm installing and see if I can't duplicate your success and save myself fifty bucks on the Axxess unit. Cheers.

      Not really sure what you're referring to gnd, but you should only need one of the key wires. You might need to try both to see which one is going to work for you.

    • @jpulley
      @jpulley  2 роки тому +1

      You will have to research your vehicle to find out which wire are responsible for steering wheel control. You want to google "stereo wiring diagram" for (your car, make and model)

    So you only need one wire? That's it?

    • @jpulley
      @jpulley  2 роки тому +1

      Yep 1 wire. It produces different resistance depending which button you are pressing on the steering wheel. You will program those different resistances to different functions on the stereo.

    • @jpulley
      @jpulley  3 роки тому

      Sorry, I'm not really sure what could be your problem. I believe the radio is reading different levels of resistance on that wire. You might want to take another look at your wiring to make sure you have a good connection. The radio might be reading a signal coming in and out as a button press.

      I can't be certain, but I doubt you would need an interface. I had an Android stereo about 7 years ago and it let me program it just like this A6 I don't see why they would change that for the S8.

      I actually did I thought the button didn't work on the steering wheel. I couldn't remember if it worked before I put that stereo in. I never did get it to work do I used the track skip button to control the volume up and down and I used the volume up as a track skip button. I thought that was a quirk to my truck only but maybe it is something across the line
