I know this video 4 years old, however, I've just started getting into the Cricut and this is without doubt the easiest demonstration I've seen, great work.
Finally someone that shows how to do a reusable stencil with Cricut on Design Space! I have looked everywhere for a tutorial on how to do this. Thank you so much!
I make all my own stencils. I struggled cutting Mylar thicker than 4 mil with my explorer but can easily cut 7 & 10 mil with my Maker. 4 mil gets creases very easily & small areas have a tendency to lift. The 10 mil leaves a raised paint coverage in your stenciled areas. The 7 mil is the perfect middle. It holds it's shape, is sturdy enough to clean without any creasing and leaves a thin layer of paint yet thick enough to get beautiful paint coverage. I was buying it in packs of 20 12x12 sheets & was blowing through it. I finally broke down and invested in a roll. Best savings decision ever. I love making layered stencils so one design could use up to 6 or 7 sheets. I also place very small circle cutouts.. not much bigger than a dot.. to line them all up.
Dollar tree has bag of triangular make up sponges. We use those to stencil. Just use large end. Off load paint on paper towel and then sponge onto stencil. Cheap alternative for brushes. Thanks for video.
I'm so happy that you posted this video!!! My daughter and I followed along for the first stencil video and were absolutely impressed at how easy you did it! Then, we were unsure if we wanted to waste so much vinyl, and as we were discussing it, this video popped up!!! Woot woot! Thank you very much. I'm now a new subscriber and can't wait to hear/see what you come up with next.
I also don't like to waste vinyl for one stencil and have been using Kraft Paper but I have struggled with the centers of the letters. Thanks for showing us this method of attaching the centers of the letters so they stay with the stencil. I am going to try this method on the Kraft Paper I have so that they are also reusable.
THANK YOU SOOOO much for going through this step by step and what paper to use! i have been searching for HOURS trying to find this; actually started to think i was going crazy. i wanted something that wasn't sticky on the back like vinyl to use for the stencil.
this was great.I loved it.I found that the easy tack works just as good on glass.also use an xacto knife to remove the connection with the floaters so that when u touch paint or spray paint u get the whole job done.the easy tack will hold the floaters
I am a newbie on the Cricut ( just bought a maker) and would have never thought about the centers of my letters. Thx for the tip on that and a few other tips that I got from your video.
Wow - that was the most genius trick I’ve learned in quite a while!!!!!!! 🤯🤯🤯***mindBLOWN!!!*** (Welding lines to attach inner letter cuts; that would otherwise usually be separated from the cut) THANK YOU!!!!!
@@thecraftscraps The welded lines are a trick I've used for quite a while. My tip to you... instead of having one (largish) weld 'line' - which can be a little tricky to fill-in with a paint brush - create two smaller weld lines, one on either side of the piece that needs them. The fill-in painting is a lot less of a 'be very careful' process!
Always best to make multiple stencils on that kind of material at the same time. Otherwise, reusing it can be difficult and lead to excessive loss. Nice job.
It's funny I found this video...We are making a monogram to cut out of wood for my sister and her husband and it has a line inside and I was thinking about trying to make sure they stayed in the stencil so you just confirmed it can be done so I thank you :-D
Thanks for this information! I have done some stenciling and have special pouncers that make a fabulous difference. Perhaps you have found them by now. Love knowing how to make the stencil!
THANK YOU SO MUCH ! I have watched several videos trying to learn how to do this and yours is the best! So excited to to give it a try! New sub as well😊
Fun!! ❤ Do you have videos on how to use a new Cricut to cut stickers. I’m not sure I have all the tools? I do have green mats; but can I use them more than once?
Another option is taking play sand and pouring it on the sticky backing to get rid of the sticker abilities. And make it more multi uses. Just thought of this more general any object that absorbs the stickness.
I'm trying to make permanent stencils. I watched and went through the process. But, Explore Air did not cut through. The utube said to use poster board setting + and a deep cut blade. So if that doesn't quite do it, how do I know what settings might do it a bit better????
Thank you so much for your video. I was wondering how "they" do that and I can't believe how common sense it seems. Thank you again. You opened some creative doors for me.
I just bought the Cricut Explore 3 and was wondering what kind of vinyl to get to make a stencil like you made. One that I would use for a spray paint job.
Depends if you want a reusable stencil or now! If you just want a vinyl stencil you can use just about any vinyl - there is oracle stencil vinyl that I like but can be temperamental sometimes but is cheaper … or you can use non permanent vinyl .)
trying to make a stencil and using font A Child's Year - which is not attaching the inside pieces of letters. Does this instruction only work for certain fonts? What font did you use in this video? thank you
I have a new cricut that I haven’t opened it. I’m scared of it and when I looked at prices of everything at Michaels I froze. Thanks for your video. I’m still just trying to learn to make things for me. If you are going to make one time stencils to sell even a little cheaper, let me know and I will refer everyone to you. It’s funny I’m scared of my new toy. Thank you.
After putting the stencil on the wood you can lay a piece of paper on it and be sure the stencil is stuck closely at the edges of the stencil to avoid bleeding under the stencil.
Game changer with the lines to keep the middles of the letters !!!! Do you wash or clean the stencil since you can use it for multiple projects ??? Thank you so much! Definitely subscribing to your channel!!
This was a wonderful tutorial. I’m glad your video came up in my feed. I have subscribed to you. I was wondering what your recommendations are on storing the stencils once they have been used since they will have some tacky on the back.? Maybe wax paper or parchment paper?
I am trying to make a stencil and was so happy to have found your tutorial. What did you do when you placed your Merry inside the square? I know it is probably simple, but I can't get it to work. Thanks for all your help.
I am trying to make a logo for my drum cymbals because once you clean the cymbal sometimes the logos fade. And I want to make a stencil but I'm scared how do you get the curvy lines to be perfect is it cut by hand with an exacto knife can make it curvy line perfect without Jagged edges how do you do it?
Thank you for for this video! I am looking for a way to make stencils for my daugher's wedding and this hits the spot!. What thickness mylar do you use and where do you find it?
Hi love ur videos but if i have a canvas its already painted with acrylic paint can i use the viynl on top to paint a wording with black acrylic paint ? Thank u
I know im pretty late to viewing this video. Its a great video and very informative. However i do have one question @lauren Laski . Do you think it would save more time and be more accurate with painting if you were to use a hand paint sprayer? I was looking into making stencils, and would like the fastest and cleanest way to paint with stencils.
This is so great thank you for sharing but I have one question on how do you clean the paint off after you finish? And can you use chalk paint on them? Can’t wait to get started.
I read in amazon that you after you get the cricut you have to get a monthly subscription for the software in order to use it is that so? To me that does not make sense to do ,
You don’t have to buy the Cricut Access membership. It’s optional but it makes all of their fonts and images available for me- I pay for it and I like it!
What happens if you use vinyl for this and just spray on the Easy-Tack spray once the adhesive becomes less sticky? Is this better because it doesn't stretch out of shape like vinyl or is there a different reason? Thanks!
Jessica Cockerell I just put them wherever it doesn’t really matter! Just make a small little rectangle and place it wherever you want. I think on top might work best

wow girl! amazing low key but fantastic youtube video on a hangover. loved learning the process with you!
Also prepping the wood with matte sealer helps keep the wood from being absorbent and drawing paint under the stencil.
Wuaoo great it. Thanks. I just received my cricut maker two days ago. Now I will try to learn who to use it. Thanks

I have used lamination (heated) sheets on cricut for stencils
Thank you I never thought of connecting the floating pieces this will make it so much easier with the small dots and shape. Thanks for the tutorial.
What is the thickness of your plastic sheets, the .007 or the .020? Did you only need to cut it one time?

Thank you for instructions,,,Which Cricut can make stencils,,can the New Joy do this
Another thing to consider is to use a French curve template, or something similar, to prevent going outside the lines. That makes it go faster.
I missed what plastic you used to make the stencil and How did u clean the stencil? You did a great job😍

a friend suggested making a stencil by laminating a piece of vinyl or whatever and then cutting out the template, makes a sturdy reusable stencil.
I have a ton of overhead projector sheets. I could probably use it, hey??
Great tutorial~ Do you wash your stencil after? How do you store them? Thank you so much!
I have this exact question as well. I loved the video and will definitely be giving it a try!
Beautiful!
Awesome! I was wondering if there was a way to do that as well! Great job!
What is the longest size you can do on this machine? Can it do something like 20x11 ish ???
Thank you for doing this! Ive stopped myself from making them becauae of this problem with the letters being loose
Love your channel! What is the paint color on your turquoise dresser?
Is there any benefit to using the spray tack vs painter's tape to hold the stencil in place?
The painters tape will cause the stencil to pucker... I tried 😫
Mind sharing what font you used for this stencil?
What front is the merry?
The clear “stencil material” is called acetate. Graphix is the name brand.
Thank you so much !
Adrienne Myers Does this come in different colors? It would be so much easier to see?
What is the thickness? What is the mil thickness?
