The double blade Maul made was inspired by Exar Kun's lightsaber design
Exar Kun’s blue double bladed lightsaber hilt is the size of standard hilt
Darth maul’s origin on his lightsaber is one of my favorite backstories about him. And I’m happy you used the EU backstory. Rise of the sith volume 1 if I’m correct.
Greatest swordsman of his era, Myamoto Musashi was only ever bested by a staff wielder. That's one reason I always liked Mauls double bladed saber. If not for Palpatines treatment of Maul leading to the inability to control his rage and hatred, he could have been unstoppable
'later he used the low ground which he was secretly the master of' 😂🤣😂🤣 That was a nice touch to the tale.
Nice! And it’s not just the advantages of the double bladed lightsaber, it was also the weaknesses of Qui-Gon’s style Ataru that Maul used as well
Interesting to note that it was two lightsabers. Makes me wonder if he could separate them if he ever wanted to use them independently.
Check out Asage Ventress's double lightsabers! They are curve hilts like Dooku's, but can combine to be an offset double sided lightsaber. Maul's double sided lightsaber was said to be two hilts welded together, so I imagine him using that much force to attach them giving him more trust in his hilts remaining in place. He didn't study dual wield, and was shown in Clone Wars to seem out of his element while wielding both the DarkSaber and his single bladed red lightsaber. Granted he was fighting Sidious in Mandalore, so it was hard for him to find his element and protect his brother, Savage Opress. That said he fought Ashoka with a double sided lightsaber rather than continuing with his attempt to weild the DarkSaber and a single bladed lightsaber.
This is all to say that I see where your going with him having the ability to switch when he wants; however, preference and style push most masters towards perfecting a craft that they are great at practicing. Maul never killed his master to truly take the mantle of the Sith Master with an Sith Apprentice or multiple Sith Apprentices that don't know the others exist. Although, he wasn't a Sith Master, he was definitely a double sided lightsaber Master.
It’s interesting the way his single blade is illustrated in the comic , it resembles obi wan/luke. And I am not sure if it was meant to be the same design as his double blade( single before the welding) one thing that can be slightly annoying with Star Wars comics is the inconsistencies with some lightsaber hilts (when a user has a certain blade at a different duration)
You can even see the hilt looking different in the panel before the wildling and t he it changes. Still love this story.
Exar Kun utilized a double-bladed lightsaber centuries before Maul did.
When such a thing was introduced to Star Wars it was so satisfying to see that it would later cause Maul to make a return despite being killed so quickly off like Boba Fett.

Darth Maul in the prequel era has Kratos vibes
The TV show made him my favorite char by far. There is a book about him thats so good too.
Tell me a game that started when you get chopped in half. Similar to UFC .. there's no way to win the intro fight to the campaign..
So you start off getting chopped off and you slowly gotta get your powers back and like get revenge.
Whatever happened to Darth Maul's other half of his body and other half of his lightsaber
Aaah, good old EU... I remember getting this comic, they were monthly issues in Poland and had 2-3 stories from SW Republic, Tales or other great storylines... My favourite was undercover Quinlan Vos, it was so great to see Jedi spy and the art by Jan Durseema was the best...
Anyone looking for more expanded universe ok the double blade there’s Sith in the Darth Bane trilogy who use the weapon and explain the philosophy on its use.
Seeing Darth Maul's Double-Bladed Lightsaber for the first time in Episode 1 truly, Truly blew my mind!!!!!
It is still one of my Most Abso-fraking-lute favorite Lightsabers in the Star Wars Universe!!!!!
Low ground which he was secretly the master of, LOL.
Obi Wan master of the low ground LoL.
LOVE IT!!!!
Can you cover darth Talon please?
Shoulda had three, if you ask me.
Plzzz start making content again 🙏🙏🙏
Ok, I can't for the life of me figure it out. What is said in the intro scene?
HE SAID IT!!!
