One of the ironies of keeping Maul from the more esoteric aspects of The Dark Side. Is that Plagueis and Sidious wanted access to the powers of Sith Sorcery. But neither of them had an inherent talent for it. Maul on the other hand, being the son of Mother Talzin, might have been able to use those powers.

Dooku also had a similar view on the double bladed lightsaber. He believed it gave an unfair advantage to the wielder and was a brutal uncivilized weapon. Of course, he encouraged the use of such advantages among the darkside agents who worked for him.

The only weakness that Maul’s double-bladed Lightsaber had was the same issue with any saber staff. It was larger than a normal Lightsaber which provided a bigger target. The reason why I mention this is because this is the same weakness that killed Maul in his last fight with Kenobi. If his Lightsaber handle was as small as Exar Kun’s then his weapon would be absolutely perfect. He was no doubt a better duelist than Darth Zannah but Exar Kun is still the best double-bladed lightsaber master.

    • @TheAncientSith
      @TheAncientSith Рік тому

@@JemorriSWTOR Well his saber staff actually isn’t the largest one. Savage Opress and Satele Shan used bigger Lightsaber handles than Maul himself. And Darth Malgus managed to cut it because of how big it was. Even though Exar Kun’s hilt was really small he really didn’t seem to have any issues wielding the blades.

Growing up with the prequels my fav was Maul. As more has come out over the years & growing older myself my understanding of him has gotten deeper. I went from a kid who thought Maul looked cool & wanting to see more of him dominating Jedi after Ep. 1. To getting a ton of more lore on him by an adult I felt sorry for him. I still was always rooting for him but, not it’s for reasons much more nuanced then him & his saber looking cool

Maul's Force usage was pretty badass though. He could tap your chest and crush your heart instantly and could precisely throw things at small targets. These are both pretty scary for one who was only meant to be a Sith assassin. If he had been trained more in The Force he probably would have been a real threat to even Sidious.

He was a Sith Lord and an assassin, he chose to focus more on his blade work because he found abusing the force as cowardly, but still he was skilled and powerful in the force TCW showed us multiple times, from when easily dragged a shuttle off a cliff with one hand and when he ripped down the large hyperdrive engines, being one of the most impressive feats of raw natural power without amp, other than Sidious.

Some belief that dark side energies are finite that gets watered down through many sith. Having only two increases the sith’s power exponentially channeling more dark side energy into the individual. Also Darth Bane released 1 master with 1 student grasping for power was a lot better than numerous sith all grasping for power slitting each other’s throats never truly working together for an end game for the sith.

The light side of the force works kinda like a torch, you can share it or pass it on and even when it’s at its weakest it can spark a whole new generation from its ashes. The dark side works basically in reverse, it doesn’t “reward” ds users for playing it safe and accept help from others.
You’re dark side, if you want anything while your still alive, you take it with force(pun not intended)

This is the very definition of altruism, one that is almost never seen in the best of men, idea that a sith will find a very strong learner knowing that this student will eventually replace him and still keeping the tradition alive and keeping the line going is beyond belief.

The funny thing is. Because of Maul being trained almost exclusively in combat and his use of a Saber staff he would have been one of the best duelists in all of the lore. Able to best a lot of masters. Besides Obi wan (obviously), Yoda, Mace Windu, and Plo kun, Dooku, and of course our chosen one Anakin Skywalker towards the end.
That seems like a Big list. But remember in the republic there were Many thousands of Jedi and Padawans in the clone wars era.

This is probably widely known and explained but I’m reasonably familiar with much of the Star Wars universe rather than an expert -
With regards to the Sith ‘Rule Of Two’, what would happen there were two Sith Lords with trainees who, perhaps hundreds of light years apart didn’t know of each other? Or if a Jedi Madter turned to the dark side when there was already a Sith Lord and learner? It seems that could cause huge conflict: for example Dooku turned to the dark side but if Plagus was still alive or Sidious had already a very experienced learner, that would disrupt the rule of two and by eliminating one, the Sith May redress the balance of their ‘rules’ but would hamstring themselves when battling with the Jedi
It doesn’t make sense to me, in the build up to Order 66, to eliminate Sith that could help turn the tide against the Jedi and then after Order 66 removing rival Sith so only the stronger and the strongest learner survive
Is this ever addressed or is it one of those fan question that just kinda hover out there until another fan has a reasonable theory?

I think the only Jedi that we see use anything other than one single bladed lightsaber regularly were Ahsoka and Pong Krell, though the latter might be debatable to be called a Jedi. With every other Jedi, they didn't normally use anything other than one single-bladed lightsaber, and the only did otherwise when the situation was very desperate. Sidings was smart to train Maul in such a manner. It is curious though why Maul abandoned the form for a bit when he came back from being cut in half. For a form that was so lethal to many Jedi, Maul opted to abandon it for most of the Clone Wars. I wonder why we didn't see him use the double bladed lightsaber until Ahsoka confronted him on Mandalore. It could as simple as he simply did not have access to such a weapon, but if it's not that, I wonder what the reason could be.

Could you imagine this what if: Ben didn't kill Maul. Instead Maul gets turned to the very least a dark jedi and trains Luke. Maul is present during episodes 4-6 as an anti protagonist. Not a good guy so much, but more so a villain that is trying to make up for his wrong doings and to get revenge.

Yet Maul was as much of a Sith as anyone, though Palpatine was more Sith. Palpatine represents the mastery of the Dark Side, having the power, but uses intellect and manipulation as his weapons of choice (in fact they are his true power), with his raw power only being used as either to set an example to a Sith Apprentice or when all options are off the table (and boy, when the gloves come off, they are shocking). Maul represents being consumed by the Dark Side and how being dug in too deep can torture the mind, with power itself becoming more of an addiction rather than a weapon. Palpatine’s use of the Dark Side was more based on how he knew how to use it, Maul’s use was more on relying on it too much to the point your own emotions guide your actions.
