Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

The double blade is my favorite style, and with Maul being my favorite sith, partially due to his weapon, i'm glad he got some praise for it.
That quote at 4:10 isn't from Darth Plagueis. It's from Kas'im, Darth Bane's lightsaber instructor, who lived a thousand years before the movies. It's from the novel Darth Bane: Path of Destruction.

Exar Kun's saber was also unique as it was not as long a traditional saber staff. It measured just barely longer than a standard saber. It allowed him to surprise his opponents by igniting the second blade in the middle of combat. His saber is my favorite saber from legends because of this aspect. Over all Count Dooku's saber is my absolute favorite.
Favorite lightsaber has to be Darth banes lightweight combat saber, because he was trained and he always wondered why his master blade was so exotic and his master told him “if you cut me down and take it, you will understand”

Man I LOVED maul...what a badass. He may be the biggest waste of a character in the history of cinema. I wish he was in all 3 of the prequel films. He even had a major battle with anakin as well(then vader; legends as well). Should have been utilized more imo.
His mission sidious sends him on before ep.1 is sooo epic from the novel "darth maul: shadow hunter". Gives you such deep insights into the spirit of this sith assassin.

Underestimated, small and alien although extremely powerful. Yoda's saber reminds me of a lightsaber version of the "noisy cricket" gun shown in "M.i.B"(Men in Black). Thanks for the videos, as a Star Wars book fan these bring in a whole new level of detail to each character, setting, or any aspect of the story post read or even after a movie. I grew up in the country playing star wars with sticks as a kid, if anyone wanted a "whip" saber they used willow branches.

Bane was asking the weapon master ((it's been a minute since I read the books so I cant recall the actuall name)) about the usage of double bladed sabers in combat and he said word for word what you quoted

I think Asajj Prentiss has the coolest saber look/style. Curved striped handles, and duel crimson blades. She was also trained by one of the best, who had command of both sides of the force.

2 of the saber fighting styles don't even require you to swing a single blade in a way a double bladed would touch you, and Maul was a master of all seven styles, so he was quite safe

I also just check the book Darth Plagueis, he never explained the the strength (or weakness)of the double bladed lightsaber.

Darth Bane's light saber teacher said almost the exact same thing regarding his own double bladed weapon as Darth Plagueis did. His did split into 2 single blades though.

That wasn't Darth Plagueis who said those words about the double bladed light saber. It was said 2 Bane by his light saber teacher Kas'im, when Bane asked about it 2 defeat his enemy Sirak @ the sith skool on Koraban during their hidden sessions

What about retracting and extending the blade? On off? So you could sweep down turn off the blade so it retracts as they move to block what isn't there anymore then turn it back on to extend the blade again into their body while their blade and weight was shifted to block something that never came so they became unbalanced just in time to have a lightsaber blade extend through their mid section.
I used to be involved in a fighting sport called Dagorhir where we used padded weapons in full contact fighting. I didn't start getting confident in my skill until I used my quarter staff which was essentially Maul's saber. When I gained confidence in my skills, my understanding of myself and others grew rapidly. I was now able to take on multiple fighters who had previously intimidated me to my core, and win! "It was like seeing a new fighter. Like we weren't fighting the same person anymore. We dropped our guard and couldn't put it back up. There was no time! We couldn't get an edge in." I overwhelmed them!
But to be honest, in a way they kinda bullied me a lot so I never told them I was doing privet training. This was pure catharsis...
In my opinion I would say the Jedi ate wrong for saying that the double blades lightsaber is more deadly as it needs to be wielded and used more as a bo-staff while a traditional saber is used as a deadlier sword even the first Jedi would use a bo-staff over a sword as they where less deadly so I would say that a double bladed lightsaber is perhaps more Jedi than Sith but hey just my own opinion

You should learn how to use punctuation
the first thought i have about a double blade. is not that its double blade. and not the training, as the user must have mastered to control their own weapon from the beginning. But, the endurance needed to keep the blade adequate. using it in general is abnormal to standard single blade weapons. and even trickier to use then staff weapons. so unconventional moments and tactics to swing and strike, parry, counter, and the like require a more active body. wile seeing anyone use a double bladed anything, they usually have to move their arms faster and move their body alot more compared to single blades. look at the Qui-gon jinn vs. Darth Maul fight. Maul is moving around alot more then Qui-gon. Qui-gon is just backing up and parrying using his arms to move the blade, wile Maul is doing turns, swings, flips and all sortsa shit to make his weapon relevant.

@@cruelwraith2games926 The general consensus is that Maul beat Qui Gon because his use of Ataru gradually wore him out, and his defenses got slower, until an attack got through. The consensus is also that, seeing his master slain because his guard dropped was what inspired Obi Wan to take up Soresu in the first place, determined that he would never lose a fight because his guard weakened. Note that in order for Vader to kill him, Obi Wan had to purposely drop his guard.

I like purple light sable used by Mace Windu since its color was unique like it's user. Perhaps the color purple does symbolize a perhaps walks a fine edge between light and dark sides of the force.

It hadn't dawned on me that Plagueis knew of Maul, but if he approved of him there must have been another plan in action as he and Palpatine possibly had planned their "chosen one" by this point.

Mauls saber, and I believe the light saber staff was a good design and it adds a sense of dread in the opponent because it just that much more to deal with, and a smart user will during a downward strike from a enemy, will move to the left or right and deactivate the blade that is on the side he is moving opposite of and stab when he enemy over shoots due to no other force is stoping his movement. And a little force push and you have a opponent that has a whole going through his head, from the blade re-activating.
I couldn't help but notice that these dual-bladed lightsabers have one weak point - the hilt. There are at least two occurences where this weapon was rendered useless upon the hilt being cut in half which was Maul's downfall in the end. I wonder if this weakness could be circumvented by choosing cortosis or some other light-saber proof material.

No then that ruins the unique look, it's a cool colour because two of my favorite used purple. Windu and Revan. However bringing a purple one back in the movies will be cool, but it should be Windu's saber itself (can't be revans because I don't think he's Canon, (or maybe that's starkiller who isn't canon?)), Doing this would mean Windu's blade remains unique... Because it would be HIS blade

As someone who dabbles in the world of Old Republic roleplay, I love the Saberstaff and the reputation the community has given it in that Sith and Jedi that wield them are dangerous, and likely skilled warriors by right.
I also like the potential the weapon had to handle multiple opponents at once(as seen with Obi Wan and Qui-Gon) and the devastation it's sweeping strikes could have on groups of soldiers. Just imagine the horror of seeing an entire squad cut down in one or two strikes. No Force abilities needed, just overwhelming reach.
(If you're still giving sabers away, I'd like Windu's :D)

#Suggestion when talking about double bladed lightsabers. Many scenes show double bladed Jedi users. But none of Kazdan Paratus, who wield a double yellow bladed one. The only other time I've really seen yellow blade sabers was with Jedi Temple guards. And when Starkiller fighters Kazdan he seems to have this idea that he's still protecting the 'Masters' and when you ultimately beat him apologizes for failing them...again. So who was Kazdan Partus? And how or why did he feel he failed the Jedi. And why did he wield such an unpopular lightsaber design and why was his blades yellow?
Along the same lines it would be interesting to know the history of the other targets in The Force Unleashed. Darth Desolous, Darth Phobos and Maris Brood. While the two sith lords were only trials of the Temples they must have been someone great in the past.
I've found one on the internet called the copper penny/ killer penny lightsaber. I'ts not a character saber but the design is awesome.
Mace Windu's light saber is the best, it's part dark side kyber crystal (red) and part light side kyber crystal (blue). A wielder of such a blade uses the weapon in the role of a gray jedi, or gray force wielder. I sure would like to win a purple saber, as I think like a gray jedi and amethyst (purple is my birth stone) Thank you for considering me and may the force be with you always.

@@jeffreekenny Yes, but since the color purple is the mixture between blue and red, it is a fitting symbolic representation for a gray jedi. Mace Windu infact was sort of a gray Jedi, he was the only Jedi of the Order to use the Vaapad fighting style, wich is a style used by many Sith such as Darth Maul and wich relies on the Dark Side.
WRONG!!! The Vaapad fighting style was not one used by many sith at all as it is a style created by Mace himself. which is a variation of Juyo
@@jeffreekenny Like you said, Vaapad is but a variation of the Juyo style wich was the seventh form, and wich was used mostly by the Sith. It was basically a form of Juyo, and not a new style altogether. The only difference is, Windu practiced this Juyo variation to control his own Dark Side instead of giving into his negative emotions fully like the Sith using Juyo did and to counter the Dark Side of his enemies.
The association of this style with the Dark Side, even in it's Vaapad variation, was why most Jedi did not attempt to learn it, and indeed why Windu refused to teach it to Anakin. His purple lightsaber symbolized this duality within him. There are some videos wich explain it in greater detail.
While you have made many valid points, I would just like to add that Vaapad wasn't just used to control his dark side emotions but to use someone's dark side energy against them, so the longer a battle would continue mace would get stronger while he's opponent would become weaker due to the extensive energy usage.

My favorite light saber was definitely Darth Chratis' long handled saber that had the spear on the other end
my favorite lightsaber is the or the theoretically possible (but never made in cannon) ghostfire blade, i think it would be insanely powerful when combined with the fighting style of darth trea, as you wouldnt even have to be there to completely silently assassinate a target, and if you are capable of dueling with a regular lightsaber, defending against the ghostfire blade and a normal saber would be nearly impossible.

It isn't actually a crossguard. Kylo Ren's lightsaber is made with a cracked Kyber crystal, which is why it crackles and emits sparks. The excess energy and heat has to be expelled to prevent overheating and self destruction, so they are exhaust ports to release heat.
I've always had the thought of a double bladed light saber with a screw together bottom, as two swords or a bo staff would be my preferred method of combat.
I've always loved this style of lightsaber and lightsaber combat ever since Episode 1. Then I saw them in comics and some CGI trailers for KOTOR and then my love for them only increased. I've always liked the idea of Monks/warriors choosing to use long ended staves/spears in Fantasy games/novels.

The Jedi were wrong thinking that the double-bladed lightsaber was an aggressive type. It isn't, and here's why:
Basically, it's like you'd weld two crusader swords together, for example. It increases the attack AND defensive, making it very powerful (not as powerful as a curved hilt saber, but powerful). Plus, it had the advantage of defending from 2 enemies at once.

the thing you don't mention here is that exar kun's saber had nearly none of the issues and all of the benefits of mauls. Kun's saber had a short, single bladed hilt that didn't really allow for the use of maul's wide two handed grip, but rather he used his saber uniquely more like a regular lightsaber, except with a blade on the bottom. he killed his instructor by surprising him with the second blade in their duel, because up until that point he had been using his lightsaber traditionally.
