Yes! Tracy’s genuine-ness is one of the reasons I keep coming back to her channel! When I see a pro make an error, I don’t feel so bad about the messes I make, lol
Tracy, I think the addition of the black border was a game changer - the quilt is beautiful❣ Thanks for the tip of using the pencil to anchor the ruler in place when getting ready to draw a diagonal line in the center of a square...can hardly wait to try thar! 😃 And I'm a firm believer of bias on the bottom as well ... super great tip for newer quilters! Great video!
Ooooo maybe I'll try the sherpy again seeing this trick. I had such a hard time I was crying at the end of mine but I stuck with it for my sister's Christmas present 🎁 And yes we have car quilts for all the kids and do use then!
Thabks for the reminder and demo of the stretch/non-stretch. This layer cake quilt top was awesome. I find many layer cake quilts quitw boring. Thanks a lot. I did watch the ENTIRE thing. I love your authenticity.
Yes I have a car quilt. It gets used every time we travel. I’m always cold and hubby is always hot so out comes the quilt when the AC is turned down lol
My mom had two of them in the back seat and one in the cargo area of her SUV. There were twins in the family. Mom was less about warmth (Florida livin’!), but about keeping the seats clean! 🤣🤣
Love this quilt and all your tutorials! You're so down to earth and you can teach! You are the best. I thought everyone had a car quilt...but I live in New England so maybe that's it lol. God bless you. You have a fabulous gift. I'm my happiest when I'm quilting!😊 Thanks, Terry
I live in Minnesota where we have very long cold winters with little to of ice and snow. Car quilts are a real thing here. If you get stuck or end up in a ditch they can be life saving. Car quilts are a rite of passage in my family. As each of my kids and grandkids have gotten their drivers license and first car, they get to choose a car quilt out of my stash of them. Yes.. I have a stash of completed car quilts. They make amazing last minute gifts!
We have a car quilt - for the dog to sit on. We'll never get stuck in the cold here in Tropical Queensland, so it's a comfort quilt, not for warmth. I love all your shows, it's like sitting and chatting together.
My Aunt gave me a wool blanket when I moved from LA to the snow belt in PA. She was concerned about us getting stranded in the snow, and we needed something to keep us warm. It came in handy. Fast forward about 10 years, and I made my first mystery quilt. I decided to make it a lap size. It turned out so pretty, so I call it my car quilt or my bus trip quilt for when I go on bus trips with the quilt guild. A few times some of the ladies have had to borrow my quilt. Lol I love your quilt. I have so many novelty Christmas fabrics, and this quilt would be perfect for this quilt. Thank you!
Ha ha ha it is what it is , What ? Your funny lol i love your work , i ❤watching you you crack me up!!! I really Really like all your quilts , you have great ideas and wonderfull talent !!!😊😊😊😊🎉❤
❤😊 Lov Ur real teaching, helping seeing examples great help!! Enjoying Ur Works in Beautifully Creating!! Inspiring Me to get back into sewing too, Thank's ❤😊
We live in Colorado and I take my great grandson to school every day. It gets pretty cold in the winter so I have three scrap quilts in my car and he can choose which one he wants to cover up with on the way to school. I am older so at times I have the AC in the car full blast, so he also uses a Quilts at that time. Haven’t made one like yours yet but I am planning to include it in my inventory. It would be fun for him to wrestle through my scraps and pick out fabrics he wants. Thanks for the great idea.
I had so much fun and laughs watching you make this quilt. I am a beginner quilter, so I thought it was great even with all your guest work I love the way the quilt turned out and I’m going to try this, but I’m sure it won’t be as nice as yours because I’ve never made a quilt before love watching your station. You are so down to earth can’t wait to watch the next episode.
A basic string block might be a better choice as a newbie. I love them as a way to use scrap strips. Don't worry about measuring the strips. Just cut randomly and sew into blocks. It makes for fun blocks!
I love this quilt and the colors! It reminds me of the multicolored quilts my Grandma made when I was a child. Made with love...useful and not just for decoration. She always used up old clothes...even made denim quilts for the boys.
Memory Lane.....we did not have ''car quilts'' .... but ''grandma's quilts'' regular bed quilts often came along in the car. My kids are now in their 60s and often talk about their ''grandma quilts''....she made many over the years. Happy memories.
😊 I did stay with you the whole way. I was like you, not sure I liked it in the beginning, but, yeah, it really grew on me. The kids will love finding all the little picture- treasures in all of the fabrics. Grandma had a car blanket, and I remember it being so very special.❤
it was totally worth watching until the end. thank you for all the tips. So happy to see you don't worry about the Quilt police. I gave birth to my first quilt 25 years ago... still learning
I had to stop what I was doing to come leave a comment. I think this quilt is one of the MOST beautiful I have seen ANYWHERE in a long time! It looks like a REAL quilt. Like Grandma used to make . Todays quilts are so coordinated that they just look like pictures in a magazine or something that is die cut. To me they are far from what quilts started out to be. This quilt, however, is fantastic!
I have dogs so l have car comforters. This is a great idea too. I’m always colder than my hubby so I’m going to make one for me!♥️👍🤓 Fudging is allowed! No one will know, it will be loved!
Gloria here, Tracy, love all your comments, your videos are not just teaching new techniques and ideas, they are also very entertaining. I love watching them all. Going to make this as I have a container with lots of 10” strips and squares from fabrics I’ve used. Thank you again, keep the videos coming.
I have a car quilt in my car. It’s custom fit to my back seats. I made it for my dog. He goes with me everywhere. He’s a big Shepherd type dog very big. it’s easy to throw it in the washing machine and it keeps his fur off the fabric in the car. I love it. He always gets it disheveled, but that’s OK. It’s his space. 😊
Hey Tracy! (Somehow I missed watching this video.) No, not had a car quilt, but I used to keep a heavy Mexican blanket (made in Tijuana) in my SUV for keeping warm during kids' baseball or soccer games, or for emergencies. Forgot to lock my vehicle one cold night and found the next morning that it had been stolen. Whoever took it left behind a long wooden stick, which was really odd. Nothing else was pilfered or disturbed. Hey, if a homeless person needed the blanket to stay warm, I was very okay with it being taken. Living in So. Cal doesn't mean that our fall and winter nights don't get cold! Was very happy that I could indirectly help someone who needed something warm. Love your faux-stained glass window look of your car quilt. The black border really framed the quilt perfectly. Great job!!! (Yes, I watched all the way through. 😘)
Wow...if someone stole a blanket out of your car ....God Bless em' they must have been cold .....The world is a such a different place these days🤷🏻♀️ Thank you for watching all the way to the end Dori❤️
Yes, I do keep a quilt or blanket in my van. Once I witnessed a bad car accident and used my quilts to cover the injured people before the ambulance arrived. I'm glad I had them.
Yes, car quilt, spontaneous picnics, breakdowns, and most often used for sleeping grandkids in shopping carts! Mine got chlorine on it which ate through...slapped some 'badages' on it and like it even more with its new personality!
Your "stretchy" side tip is a really good one and will help me a lot. Thank you for all your wonderful videos and give your little Josephine a hug for all of us.
Yes, so many great, great tips. Thank you for those. Now to remember them all. I sent myself the video for when I’m ready to do this. Thank you so much.
Nice delivery quilt midwife. I love it. Even your mistakes are helpful and you know, I realised I am too hard on myself and need to lighten up. I'm not as bad as I thought, just normal! You have such a wonderful imagination with your quilting. You make everything seem possible. Thanks so much for all your hard work for us, I love it.
I sometimes travel for work, and last winter the heat in my hotel room didn't work, so when I got home I made myself a car quilt. It's been pretty handy!
I love this type of kitchen sink type of quilt!! And I’m going to take a look at that Sherpa. And I too have some flannel that is perfect for the batting too!
My car quilt is a tesselating star quilt. White to blue with black background. Fun for moonlight star gazing, too. Grandkids love it for picnics on music in the park night.
I think you said your grandkids will love this. I saw a car in one of the triangles so you could start a quilt game asking them where the car is going, why is it going there and what will it find. Have some kind of a marker so that triangle is used (the one they chose to travel to). Then the next child takes the car or what ever else is in there and goes where? Also, who hung the Christmas lights etc. What a great quilt. So much fun.
This is the second time I’ve seen this video. I really like the scrappy look, a lot. You don’t have to stress over what matches or not. I have some layer cake fabric that I’m going to use for this quilt. I decided that will be the perfect quilt to do next. Your instructions are very helpful and easy to follow. The “mistake” that you made with making sure that the bias piece was at the bottom helped me understand what you meant. Very helpful mistake for me. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion. ❤
Of course, I fully invested in your video. How could I not? You are always fun to visit. I love how this quilt turned out. You are very magic turning scraps into things of beauty! Right now, I am so jealous. My daughter and I are preparing to sell my property...which means packing everything we don't need for the next few days to make the house presentable. I just put all of my ready to be quilted quilts into a "Magic Bag". That, and extra bedding, backing fabrics, extra towels etc. We may not move for a month or two, which means no quilting for three months, because it will take that much to get everything unpacked and placed in its new home. The best thing about it, is that I will have a large room to put all of my quilting stuff furniture included into one single room. I will be keeping my sanity by living vicariously though you and my other quilty UA-cam buddies!
I made my daughter a car quilt and matching pillowcase for the pillow she travels with. It’s actually batting free- just cotton top and flannel on the back to make it more malleable for her. 😊
Don't have a car quilt yet!!! will be working on one now. Thanks for the tip on the way to cut that's not across the width of fabric and yes i watched you all the way through and it was delightful. Thank you for sharing this with us, you are a ray of sunshine to listen to and watch xx
My 5 yr old granddaughter asked me to make a “truck blanket”. I came up with the idea of using 2 one yard cuts of flannel fabric. We went to fabric store ( with her twin sister and 3 yr old cousin) to pick out their two fabrics. I placed wrong sides together and stitched one inch all around then ragged the edges. Here in south Louisiana we need a little covering for the air conditioning not so much for heater. Enjoy your tutorials!
Well, that is so cute and easy to do that now I DEFINITELY have to stop cleaning right now and go make one!!!! Thank you for saving me from my cleaning!!!😁
I love the black border around the quilt. I agree with one of the other comments that it calmed it down. I agree it is really so cute. I might not want to get out of the car with this quilt. Pop in a video?? How old I’m I?!😂 sit in peace and quiet or stream a couple of the sewing Channels UA-cam videos snuggled in the quilt!!
This is such a beautiful quilt. I love it. Yes I have a Car quilt. But I could easily make one like this why am I just seeing this. Gorgeous. What kid wouldn’t love this. That Sherpa is so adorable. It might be my favorite backing. I see you have a Juki and it handled it well.
Hi Tracy! That quilt is really pretty! Your grands are gonna love snuggling under it in the car! I love the black accents. The black border gives your eyes a place to rest. Another great job! Have a blessed day and productive day!
I always had a blanket in the car plus I had one of those old fold top beer cases I covered with contact paper and inside I kept coffee, creamer, salt, pepper, paper plates, napkins, plastic silverware, sugar, and some wax candles I made wrapped I twine,a small fry pan,and a small pan. Candles were in the big tuna cans. In another box I kept a one burner, an extra set of clothes. I worked for a motel chain and if the weather got bad we were required to come into motel so they would have a full staff. So I would grab food, the cat,her food and poop box and we were good to go. Not only did I use it for that but it came in handy for picnics.
What a wonderful idea to use the Sherpa for a kid’s quilt. I love the variety of colors and shapes. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Blessings.
I think that would be great for an Eye Spy quilt! Thank you for the inspiration for using up all those novelty fat quarters I have laying around taking up space😊
Watch it all the way to the end! If it wasn’t less than an hour to my bedtime, I’d be in my sewing room, going thru fabric,! There’s always tomorrow! Have a truck & a car, take great-grand kids and I’m sure they would like a “fluffy” backed quilt. You are amazing Tracy!
You sound like me Joy...the minute I'm inspired..I run to my sewing machine to search fabric...unless it's the middle of night LOL🤣 Have fun with this one💥
Had my doubts when you first put all those blocks up, but seen together with the black border, it was like magic! It no longer looked like an unplanned mess. It looked cute! It didn’t make my eyes and brain hurt anymore! Bet the kids loved it, especially with that soft backing! Couldn’t help laughing at the ‘wonder what the neighbors are thinking’ comment!
I'm with you...it wasn't until the black border came on until I LOVED it...❣️ The kids love it...Thank you for watching and supporting my channel...I appreciate it so much❤️
What a great idea! I have never thought of using sherpa. I have used various Shannon Fabrics material on the reverse...but pricey. My granddaughter only likes flannel. I am going to piece a front with some of my juvenile & solid flannels. Then I will sherpa the back. I won't put an inner layer in, as she has stated, "Mimi, I like light & fluffy." 😊 A few stitches in the ditches will hold things just fine. I did stay to the end, but in 2 viewing sessions ❤. Thanks for this instructional video. Ohio here 😊
Inwatched it all & so glad I did!!! You fall in love with this more, every step!!! I am totally gonna try this!! I have a very special lil girl who is gonna LOVE IT!! & I think I might make 2, one for my car & one for her Mom's car!! Thank you SO much!! You are both inspiring & make make things acheiveable for us newer quilters!!
I recycle scrap cars from impound lots… 8 out of 10 cars have a blanket in them. I always recuse them & wash them! sometimes I keep one☺️but, I donate most of them, usually to a winter warming station…. And yes a quilt is in my car too!
I have watched your videos, you have done a lot of different quilts. The thing is tou show you make mistakes just like the rest of us. Thank you for all you do, your a great teacher with all your tips.
I absolutely love this quilt concept. And, I do keep a heavy denim quilt in my car. Several years ago a family member was in a car accident in the snow on Christmas day and had to wait 12 HOURS for a tow truck!!! I always have snacks and water too. Be Prepared!
I love the way this turned out! They always say to keep an old blanket in the car for emergencies, but a quilt would be so much more comforting! Thank you for showing the whole process, even the moments of self-doubt and oops. Those black strips structure the design beautifully!
Love the idea of a car quilt. We don't get the really "COLD" here in Mississippi but on long trips having a nice quilt to cuddle in for a nap would be nice!
Watched the whole thing and the border quieted the whole thing down. When you use one color as an accent all through the quilt you avoid having what I call clown barf 🤣 I never liked scrap quilts, because of the clown barf thing, until I learned to have a constant. Now they're what I prefer to make!
Love this quilt. YesI did stay to the end. Love that you kept your mistakes in the video and I do have a car quilt
Yes! Tracy’s genuine-ness is one of the reasons I keep coming back to her channel! When I see a pro make an error, I don’t feel so bad about the messes I make, lol
@@patriciacrafton92 Thank you ❤ Oh the errors I make are many hahahahaha🤣
Tracy, I think the addition of the black border was a game changer - the quilt is beautiful❣ Thanks for the tip of using the pencil to anchor the ruler in place when getting ready to draw a diagonal line in the center of a square...can hardly wait to try thar! 😃 And I'm a firm believer of bias on the bottom as well ... super great tip for newer quilters! Great video!
Ooooo maybe I'll try the sherpy again seeing this trick. I had such a hard time I was crying at the end of mine but I stuck with it for my sister's Christmas present 🎁
And yes we have car quilts for all the kids and do use then!
I love this quilt. I think I bust a gut every time I watch your videos. Thanks for the joy you bring.
By adding that black border, it made the whole quilt top pop! It improved it immensely! I really like it a lot.
Your quilt turned out soooo good! What a great idea.
It reminds me of the beauty of all the different wrapping papers under the tree. Lovely! And yes, I stayed to the end.
That's a great vision of all the gift wrapping papers🎄
You are a great teacher! Thank you for guidance before I make the mistake you talk about!
You are too funny! Thanks for teaching me so any things😍
You are so creative. I love your channel.
My mom had two of them in the back seat and one in the cargo area of her SUV. There were twins in the family. Mom was less about warmth (Florida livin’!), but about keeping the seats clean! 🤣🤣
I just “discovered” your channel! Subscribed right away! I love this car quilt and I like your style of teaching! Good job 👍🏻
You are so kind Terry. Thank you so much for your encouraging words. It really means a lot to me.💗
Love your work Tracey. Yes I stayed to the end too.
Hugs from Down Under

I live in Ohio and it is definitely cold here too...BBBRRRRrrrrrrrr❄
I love the idea of gifting one to a new driver. I’m going to follow your lead. Thanks.
I never had a car quilt born and raised in MN. I'm going to make one while I'm in Oklahoma.
We have a car quilt - for the dog to sit on. We'll never get stuck in the cold here in Tropical Queensland, so it's a comfort quilt, not for warmth. I love all your shows, it's like sitting and chatting together.
❤️Thank you for the encouragement Janine❣️
My Aunt gave me a wool blanket when I moved from LA to the snow belt in PA. She was concerned about us getting stranded in the snow, and we needed something to keep us warm. It came in handy. Fast forward about 10 years, and I made my first mystery quilt. I decided to make it a lap size. I love the layer cake quilt. Don't worry if you get strange comments from people, just ignore them.

When my kids were little we always had a blanket of some kid in the car. A car quilt is a good idea.
I’m so motivated to go through all of my novelty fabric! I always stay until the end of your videos!
I had so much fun and laughs watching you make this quilt. Aloha Tracy! I don’t have a car quilt. Instead, I have several beach towels in my car for my grands to cuddle up with 😎
it was totally worth watching until the end. thank you for all the tips. So happy to see you don't worry about the Quilt police. I gave birth to my first quilt 25 years ago... still learning

I always find myself counting and re-counting my blocks. 🤣
Very helpful video. Thanks for the flat tip and sewing one side than the other instead of fussing with all of it at once. Very helpful. Thanks.
I was taught sew from the center to the corner, them flip it over, sew center to corner. Repeat for each side. If it does stretch, it will be even.
You can totally do that Jil...I sometimes will do that on "hard to line up points"✅
Yes, I have a car quilt. My dad always had an Afghan in his vehicle when I was younger. 💙
I have dogs so l have car comforters. This is a great idea too. I’m always colder than my hubby so I’m going to make one for me!♥️👍🤓
Fudging is allowed! No one will know, it will be loved!
Gloria here, Tracy, love all your comments, your videos are not just teaching new techniques and ideas, they are also very entertaining. I love watching them all. I appreciate that you are using the fabric that you already have on hand. My sister has a car quilt.
I've been sewing for 62yrs and quilting for 25.....must be fun😊
My kids growing up had a quillo so my g-kids all got one. So yes a a car quilt love your simple but beautiful quilt is awesome
I got some… “different “ fabrics in a block exchange that didn’t really go with anything. I made a little quilt for my dog for the car. She loves it.
I love the whole idea of using up what we have in our stash......animal quilts are a great idea❤

Your voice is calming and always so happy. Love your tutorials & ideas.
Can you tell my husband that haha🤣 (joking of course...not joking lol)
Absolutely beautiful and made with 100% pure love ... GRANDMA'S LOVE!
YES! YES! YES! QUILTING IS THE ABSOLUTE MOST FUN I’ve EVER had!!! Sometimes w all the sadness and stress in life this is my sanity. Ty Sista!!!
I love the colors. It reminds me of my kaleidoscope (which I loved) when I was a kid. Your Grandkids will love it!
I made friends a car quilt for when they go to watch their grandies football games. Love your video's and scrap quilts are my favourite's as well.
Yes, I do keep a quilt or blanket in my van. Once I witnessed a bad car accident and used my quilts to cover the injured people before the ambulance arrived. I'm glad I had them.
Wow...good thing you were prepared...now we all need a car quilt after hearing that❤
I don't have a quilt in my truck. After hearing this I'll have one in there soon. 😮
Yes, car quilt, spontaneous picnics, breakdowns, and most often used for sleeping grandkids in shopping carts! Mine got chlorine on it which ate through...slapped some 'badages' on it and like it even more with its new personality!
Great scrap patching❣️
Your "stretchy" side tip is a really good one and will help me a lot. Thank you for all your wonderful videos and give your little Josephine a hug for all of us.
Thank you Jeanette for supporting my channel❣️ Absolutely will give Josephine a hug for ya....❤️
Yes, so many great, great tips. Thank you for those. Now to remember them all. I sent myself the video for when I’m ready to do this. Thank you so much.
I love that you show the “fix” each time things get wonkey. Thank you!
Thank you for showing mistakes and how to recover from them. That really helps!
This was such an interesting process! The black really tied it all in beautifully! Looks so cuddly. Thank you.
Quilt midwife LOLOLOLOL🤣 so funny❣️ Yes...we all are too hard on ourselves....I've learned to just relax and enjoy the process...❤️
I sometimes travel for work, and last winter the heat in my hotel room didn't work, so when I got home I made myself a car quilt. It's been pretty handy!

Thank you for being fully invested ❤️ I hope your able to get to sewing soon✅
I made my daughter a car quilt and matching pillowcase for the pillow she travels with. It’s actually batting free- just cotton top and flannel on the back to make it more malleable for her. 😊
Love this pattern. Thank you for doing such a great teaching video.
Great idea with the flannel✅
You can call me goodwill next time you want to toss out fabric..lol. I totally watched the whole thing. It's beautiful
Well, that is so cute and easy to do that now I DEFINITELY have to stop cleaning right now and go make one!!!! Thank you for saving me from my cleaning!!!😁
I'll save ya everytime from cleaning ✅ LOL🤣
@@TheSewingChannel Awww, thank you!!! You're the best!!!😉
Great tip on cutting strips down the length of the fabric instead of WOF - thanks
YES!!! Definitely watch The Sewing Channel UA-cam videos while cuddling your new quilt in the car❣️ I'm all for it haha🤣
The small black strips really anchored all those colors. Just magic!
Thank you Sharon...have a great day too❣
I always had a blanket in the car plus I had one of those old fold top beer cases I covered with contact paper and inside I kept coffee, creamer, salt, pepper, paper plates, napkins, plastic silverware, sugar, and some wax candles I made wrapped I twine,a small fry pan,and a small pan.
Wow...I could learn a lot from you✅ very prepared!!! Thank you for the tips❣️
What a wonderful idea to use the Sherpa for a kid’s quilt. I love the variety of colors and shapes. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Blessings.
And YES, I did stay until the end of the video. 😊
Yes, I keep 2 quilts in my car for my grandkids, they love reaching for their quilts when they get in mama’s (aka grandma) car!
That will be a sweet memory for them when they are older❤️
Ohio here 😊
I love it! And most importantly, your grand babies will love it!
Loved this process. So helpful.
In NH it gets cold. I like a quilt in the car. I loved watching you do this quilt. I learned things from you also. Thank you!
I recycle scrap cars from impound lots… 8 out of 10 cars have a blanket in them. I always recuse them & wash them! sometimes I keep one☺️but, I donate most of them, usually to a winter warming station…. And yes a quilt is in my car too!
I stayed and watch your putting this together and fell in love with this quilt. but I always love scrape quilts. GREAT
❤️
I just loved this one, I’ve watched it twice. Great job.
Wow..I need to be more prepared like you❣Thanks for the ideas❤
Keep a quilt in both our vehicles comes in really handy when we go to the movies
This came out quite beautiful. Great job, thanks for all the tips. The kids will love it for sure!
I love the way this turned out! They always say to keep an old blanket in the car for emergencies, but a quilt would be so much more comforting! Thank you for showing the whole process, even the moments of self-doubt and oops. Those black strips structure the design beautifully!
Quilt in car is a good idea. Many times wish I had one for myself when my husband and I traveled.😊
Your stretchy side tip is going to help me a lot thank you
Awesome...It totally helped me too...Once I understood the stretchy and stable sides of fabric then I could use them to my advantage❤️
Love the idea of a car quilt. We don't get the really "COLD" here in Mississippi but on long trips having a nice quilt to cuddle in for a nap would be nice!
Yes, quilting is the most fun I’ve ever had in my whole life. That and fishing. 🎣
Yes on the car quilts, 2 in fact. Also have made for my kids and friends. I think everyone should have them. Never know when you might need one.
Can't you just use your center line and cut one side at 2.5 and the other side at 3.5 instead of using the templates?
You totally could...but....it's just an extra way of making sure everything is straight. Makes sense to my brain LOL🤣
Watched the whole thing and the border quieted the whole thing down. When you use one color as an accent all through the quilt you avoid having what I call clown barf 🤣 I never liked scrap quilts, because of the clown barf thing, until I learned to have a constant. Now they're what I prefer to make!
LOL @gayle CLOWN BARF LOL🤣
Clown Barf added to my list of fun phases to use 😂
Love it! I only made 1 minky backed quilt and didn't like using it. I think I will try it again.
