- This is a simple quilt made from one layer cake. It takes 42 10" X 10" fabric squares to create 42 quilt blocks. You have a lot of design freedom with this easy block. You can add yardage but for this video I only used the layer cake.
The fabric is called Sincerely Yours by Sherri and Chelsi for Moda. It has pink, purple, orange and cream colors. Great for any one liking these colors, or as a Valentine's gift or decor.

I can hardly believe how rude people are on here. You can fast forward if you want to and turn the music down if you want to. She is just showing some basics. It's obviously not a quilt for a judged show. Why do women feel it's necessary to hate on each other all of the time. So sad.
I agree. Thank you.
The kids call it mean girls!! Pray for their sorry souls🙏🐦
I love the tutorial and it doesn’t matter to me if the finished project is first or last. I also like the interaction during the tutorial.

Appreciate the caption and writing on the screen for people that cannot hear and I am one of those people so thank you very much for putting the instructions on the screen so we could read them so far you’re the only one I know that does that so thank you so much
You're very welcome
I think I would have done one more cut per block and done it more scrappy, but it was very nice, and shows that you can have a lovely design easily, especially for new quilters and sewists! Many people don't want to use big pieces of cloth when they start, and this shows that you can make something lovely, make it your own and need have no fear of cutting blocks when you start!
Thank you for your input. I agree and appreciate your comment.
Your quilt is pretty. I like the technique you used. I will probably try it soon. Thank you for showing us how you did it. To all of the negative Nancy's / quilt police lighten up.
Thank you for being supportive.... and nice.
@@SoftSquares you are welcome💖
Sometimes, you just need a “quick” quilt to wrap someone in a hug. This one is perfect for a big finish in a short time. I’m sure it’s quite warm. I’m a “make a simple quilt” person, so I think it’s something to add to my list.
Thank you
Y’all had my same thoughts. Quilts are a comforting, warm loving way to say I love you. Unless your trying to win a ribbon with your quilt then don’t put to much emphasis on perfection. It comes out nice! I also think those imperfections make the character of the quilt.
Thank you! Thank you for commenting and for watching.
Love how a pinwheel forms when the rows are joined. Thanks for taking the time to walk us through the process!
I'm glad you could see that. It should be more noticable when it's quilted.
Very pretty this way stitching is easy and clear.
I really like this quilt! It's perfect for a beginner, or a quick one to make in a weekend.
it really is beginner friendly and quick-ish
Ohh.yes. beautiful piece. I did 4 in haloween glow in the dark fabric and 2 Christmas in silver and 2 in golds. Stunning porch pieces when sitting by the fireside
That's awesome.
Double Slice Layer Cake - one of my favorites!
Mine too!
Thank you for such an easy yet interesting design. I am always looking for new ways to use 10” squares that don’t require a lot of cutting up and sewing back together.
Easy is nice
Love this quilt pattern!
I do it. It's nice and simple.
A shot of the whole quilt would be nice to see
It has now been finished. Here is the link to see the whole thing: ua-cam.com/video/u_A5ZUk4ouY/v-deo.html It is near the 9 min mark.
Thanks for the great idea of what to do with the layer cakes in my stash. As a novice I greatly appreciate the simplicity of this project.❤❤
You are so welcome!
I love these ideas, it gave me such a great idea for my college students grandsons.
I'm so glad!
I have so many layer cakes that I couldn’t think how to use. This is awesome! Thanks!
So glad!
Love, love, love it. I will use this pattern t make a rainbow quilt for a friend.❤️
there are so many options. I like your idea.
Love it!!!!! I am just learning and needed a quick baby quilt for gender reveal. This is easy enough to make one for a boy and one for a girl. Thank you so much.
have fun and good luck
I love the “double slice layer cake” block pattern. I have used it several time. Most recently I made a quilt out of a large stash of college prints.
I'll bet that quilt looked great
Really like this pattern it's really quick and easy... And I am a bit of perfectionist... So watching you not lining up the edges of your favorite is driving me crazy... But the pattern is very forgiving and like you said you can't square up your squares which will make the final assembly easy And accurate
thank you for your feedback. thanks for watching.
I really like this pattern. I’m new to quilting and this looks like I could make it. Thanks.
I know you can do this!
Great plan. I would like more mixing of the fabrics so it looks more patchy. Pretty nice for one layer cake!
thank you for your comment
I like the technique you used. Thanks for the video
Glad it was helpful!
Love your choice of fabric, it really makes the quilt pop! Thank you for taking time and effort to do this video.🙏🙏❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the idea, layout, and finished product. In future, you may wish to consider only sewing 4 or 5 blocks on the video. People can get the idea in a much shorter time.
thank you for your feedback. Thank you for watching.
Thanks for sharing this tutorial!! I have waaaay too many layer cakes and I need to use them. I am using a flannel one first to make a manly quilt for my husband....sort of...😉😉😉
You are so welcome!
I'm definitely doing this one!!!! Love it!
Hope you like it!
Same two fabrics in each block was great idea 👍
I think so too!
I liked the quilt, I’m a beginner as well, I enjoy watching other quilters work, you always learn something new.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks! I have lots of layers cakes. I have one picked out with your pattern. Thanks for the wonderful inspiration!
You are so welcome!
I like it quick and simple my kind of quilt.
thanks. I do too.
Think I'll try this one I like the way it looks will try it with African fabric . Thank you.
that sounds cool
This is a super fast and easy pattern that looks great! This could also be done scrappy with random 10" squares.
Great idea!
Have made this twice and really enjoyed it
I'm glad you like it.
This is the same as Double slice y Missouri Star Quilt.
I know it has many names
I came here to say the same thing. I’ve made it many times.
I've tried finding a pattern called Double Slice at MSQC and can't find it. Would you please double check the name?
Double Slice Layer Cake Quilt Tutorial, I googled it, Missouri Star Quilt
So many beautiful fabrics in this layer cake ... this pattern is simple, quick and makes for a very happy quilt that anyone would treasure!
Many, many thanks!
so many options too
Very cute! Happy colors. I have some flannels this would be good for. I need to send in a few quilts to our local hospital, this would be a great pattern for that. Thank you :-)
that sounds like a great way to use this pattern.
I agree - this would be a really nice way,to make charity quilts! I’m going to recommend this pattern to my quilt guild. Thanks for the video!!!!!
It looks like the double slice from Missouri Star.
There are many patterns like this. I hope you get a chance to try it.
They are a lot of recycled patterns
So cute thank you!
thank you for commenting
Love the quilt but your nail color is gorgeous
thank you
This quilt top would be easy to QAYG. My favorite quilts.
I agree. That is a great idea.
Love it.
it is super simple
Love your background music and your tutorial !!
Thank you
Very cute and easy!
thanks for watching
This looks great and a good one to start on thank you 🙏
Hope you enjoy it!
I will try this, thank you.
you have a lot of options with the layout. have fun.
This was so wonderful and turned out beautiful.
thank you for your comment
That would one little girl very happy!!
I agree
I have used this pattern many times. I am always amazed at the results. It's so simple yet looks complicated. Yours is also beautiful. God bless.
thank you
Thank you! Great idea!
You are so welcome! I've been thinking about you. I hope you have a speedy recovery.
Great idea. I love the fabrics
thank you
I like that method. Thank you
You're welcome!
I love it!😊❤️
I hope you have fun with it
Great but could use dimensions.
WHAT POLISH ARE YOU WEARING??? I'm so distracted by how beautiful it is I could hardly pay attention to the quilt!😍
Oh i like this!! I have yardages of a pattern that goes together. I have 1 yard cuts of 4 patterns and will add a solid color as well so 5 all together. Do you think this pattern would work for these 5 cuts?
I do
The good thing about yardage is that you can cut your blocks to any size you like!
@@denisebento12 yes!! for sure
Very nice quilt and very fast to make. ❤️
thank you
Very good thanks
So nice of you
I really like this idea, thanks for sharing ! 😊
You are so welcome!
I love it.
thank you
Cute thankyou
Thanks for supporting my Channel
Is this the Double Slice Layer Cake quilt from MSQC?
It could be, but that is not where I got the idea for the pattern
looks good
thank you
Should I starch the fabric before cutting for this pattern?
It is up to you. I did not.
Nice idea! (Not necessary to show soooo much sewing and cutting)
thank you for commenting
Can you please tell me the finished size many thanks
each finished block is 9.5" x 9.5". You can use as many or few as you like.
very easy looks good
thank you for commenting
You said to be careful about sewing while it was orientated in the same direction (small block on top) but at that point I don't think it would have mattered if you had sewed the opposite seam instead. If you had seamed the to short sides maybe but the 2 long sides would have made the same block (just flip it around).
good point
Good morning new viewer from san antonio,tx. I really like your video.
thank you for watching and check back for more
No scraps, YAY!
I love it too!
I'm your new subscriber. I love sewing quilts and hot pads & coasters. Glad to meet you.
Thanks for subbing!
CAN THIS BLOCK USE 3 COLORS ONLY ?
I would think it could work, but it may be easier with sets of 2.
Like it. Very pretty 😊
Thank you! 😊
If you'll iron your seams very carefully they will lay flatter, and always always square up blocks before assembling quilt so that things go together more amoothly. A few extra steps is so worth it in the end.
I agree. Thanks for your comment.
Instead of all those colors how would 2 colors work and how many for queen size quilt.
You can do this with any size and fabric you like. If you choose to just use 2 colors I think it would be stunning. The purpose of this video is to show what you can do if you have a Layer cake, which is a package of 10"x10" squares of different patterns and colors that are all from the same line. All the fabrics from that line are designed to work together. But you don't have to use a layer cake to use this pattern.
Thank you so much already picked my material.
Do you have a pattern, or where did you learn to do this?
there is no pattern. just cut it up how you like and sew it back together with different fabrics.
@@SoftSquares Thanks for the information.
I am currently working on this pattern. I believe assembly is 6 blocks across & 7 rows down. Is that correct? Has anyone ever sewn sashing strip between to increase size? Thank you loved this process ♥️
I like the idea of sashing
I didn't add smashing but I added 3 borders at a total of 7". It's rather large but I love it.🙃
What size is it without borders
55" X 62" is it's size. It depends on how many blocks you use.
So, 1 layer cake will make a lap quilt ????
yes
Very hard very pretty
Thanks for watching.
What is the finished measurement?
66 X 74 - it's in the description
I’m totally confused wish I understood are you cutting ten inch squares into 3.5 by 6,5 and the other piece is 6.5 inch by whst I’m confused
I am using 10" squares with a 5" square. the finished block is about 9".
I am more about enjoying creativity and less about achieving perfection. Life is too stressful already , don't add anymore anxiety to your life. You should enjoy your hobbies otherwise it is called work.
thank you
Voice Sound is bad. Cant make out what you are saying. Music is REALLY annoying.
It is ok. Vid is clear. So cute. Thanks.
Thank you for commenting. New equipment coming to make things better.
It sounds clear on my iPad
What a great tutorial! Thank you. I have a million layer cakes!
I do too. I will be making more quilts
Seems to me that you should put your purple pieces with the lavender polka dots.
it is hard to know where to put the pieces, so it's trial and error
While it is easy, I think the design is " restless". Not harmonoius somehow. But thank you .
I think it is my fabric choice.
Sorry the description is not right, I try to be helpful... for the second cut, if the direction is followed, you will have two cuts in the same direction, parallel to each other. You need to say rather, to "cut in the opposite direction," from the first cut. I really like your method for sewing the rows together. All the best.
thank you for your feedback
music drives me nuts!
I'm sorry. thank you for your feedback.
Sure to prefer voice overs versus having to read the entire video.
thank you for your comment and for watching.
As a long arm quilter, I cringed at the way your seam allowances were pressed. As a careful piecer, I think you could have matched the raw edges more precisely.
Thank you for your feedback
I think maybe she was just trying to make a super fast quilt and not win any ribbons...it will still be warm and serve it's intended purpose, right?
Susan Parks; Good thing she didn’t ask you to do the long arm work then 😂
@@deejenkins8314 Good point! lol
A wider video shot to show process better
I'm working on that. sorry it's not there yet.
You need to lower the music and rais your voice can't hear you talking and then the music blows you off your chair
I'm working on fixing that. I'm sorry but really appreciate the feedback.
Turn on closed caption
I couldn’t follow this.
I'm sorry. I appreciate you watching.
I like this pattern a pity you weren't more careful with you sewing and ironing of seams if it was intended for beginners, it is a great beginners quilt but they need to see how to and perhaps a little more dialogue explaining steps better, otherwise love your choic of layer cake colours, think I will use this pattern for my next charity quilt, thank you.
thank you for commenting
Music drives me nuts.
Sorry about that. Newer videos are better.
Pretty blocks but boring to watch all the sewing.
thank you for your feedback
Please ditch the music
I have made changes and the newer videos are better. thank you for your comment.
Mute
I have made changes and the newer videos are better. thank you for your comment.
That was some pretty messy sewing. If you’re teaching quilting you need to show the steps in order and do a good job so the one learning will learn the correct way to do it.
thank you for your feedback
Ms Karen messy or not I think we all got the concept at least I did and I am a beginner. Well done Ms soft squares.
I’m thought you did good. It’s all about us to now do it how we want to do it! The principals were all there, for sure…. I already have a cute layer cake in mind… 💕 Thank you..
I thought this video was well done. I definitely got the concept. I will be making this. Thank you❤
too much music, too much video with you sewing straight pieces., should have shown some of your decisions on your design wall., besides writing the steps you should explain, not everyone understands written patterns and pointing doesn't help. Fast forwarded to see final quilt.
thank you for your feedback
