Smashing Pumpkins???
@@zahira_rania What?
Does Silverchair count?
Alice In Chains is my favorite. Laynes voice is fckn powerful. Layne and Jerry’s harmonies were beautiful. A ridiculously good tight sounding band overall.
Have you heard the band Chout and his frontman Brendan Nielsen? You wont believe it.
As a pretty big AiC fan myself, I LOVED Mad Season!
@@JDsHouseofHobbies hell yeah me too, it’s insane how mad season weren’t even mentioned
Cornell’s vocal range and his wide array of songs he’s done with Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog, and his solo work is why he is one of my favorite singers ever and I’m still sad he’s gone.
😍😎
Alice In Chains - long live their incredible sound and Layne's haunting vocals.
Have you heard the band Chout and his frontman Brendan Nielsen? You wont believe it.
"There's not a word that describes us. We’re not alternative, metal or grunge - we’re not any of that. We’re just what we are." - Jerry Cantrell
Aside from EP's like SAP and Jar of Flies, the metal influence is undeniable.
The grunge bands of the 90s have created a significant impact on pop culture. We all hope to see more videos like this.
Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Temple of the Dog... All amazing bands
Can’t forget Alice In Chains, best vocals of all time
@@brandonaceituno1756
I think he dislikes AIC.
To blatantly omit one of the big four grunge bands, but add STP, I doubt he forgot.
_Why_ he dislikes them, well, who knows? Lol
He’s missing out, I definitely know that much!!
The Melvins deserve much more than an honorable mention. They are literally referred to as the grandfathers of Grunge, they were Kurt Cobains biggest influence and he even worked as a roadie for them. Plus, after almost 40 years they are still going strong. Also, Mother Love Bone, Butthole Surfers and Kyuss deserve some love.
Yup!!
Agreed!
And Mud Honey
Amazing live they are too
Agreed! How does Bush make this list and the Melvins do not?
I Love Candlebox Their Music Is crazy underrated love that band
First band I saw live at a college gym in Eastern Kentucky. I think it was probably 1994 or 95.
I'm a 2000s kid and 80s and 90s music is the THE BEST!
Likewise, you have excellent taste in music!
@@trinaq
Hell yeah- he sure does.
90's but fuck yes it is!
Same here, born in 02 but love 80s and 90s rock better than anything made after 2000
Soundgarden and Alice In Chains need to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
👏👏👏👏👏
Agreed! My two favorite bands!
I didn't know that Alice in chains hasn't been inducted yet
No. People need to stop caring about the rock and roll hall of fame...its a complete joke.
SOUNDGARDEN JUST GOT NOMINATED!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
Ahhh,90’s wish I could turn back time ⏰🌏
Yeah I feel the same way
1° Alice In Chains
2° Nirvana
3° Soundgarden
4° Stone Temple Pilots
5° Pearl Jam
6° Mother Love Bone
7° Screaming Trees
8° Mad Season
9° Temple Of The Dog
10° Mudhoney
Honorable mentions:
Melvins
The Smashing Pumpkins
Bush
Hole
L7
Tad
Skin Yard
And many others ❤
0:35 10. Temple of the Dog
1:36 09. Silverchair
2:38 08. Bush
3:37 07. Screaming Trees
4:31 06. Stone Temple Pilots
5:30 05. Mudhoney
6:22 04. Pearl Jam
7:20 03. Soundgarden
8:23 02. Alice in Chains
9:35 Honorable Mentions: Candlebox, Sponge, Melvins, L7
10:42 01. Nirvana
At least The melvins got a honorable mention. Came here to see what they got wrong but I agree with the list surprisingly.
I would have thought Nirvana & Pearl Jam would have been #1 and #2.
@@heathercarpenter5497 Even a broken clock is right twice a day
Stone temple pilots should be way higher
Alice in Chains are more a sludge metal band than grunge imo
"When it comes to grunge or even just Seattle, I think there was one band that made the definitive music of the time. It wasn't us or Nirvana, but Mudhoney. Nirvana delivered it to the world, but Mudhoney were the band of that time and sound." - Eddie Vedder
I am not surprised Nirvana is #1 here, but my Top 4 are: 1) Alice in Chains; 2) Soundgarden; 3) Pearl Jam; and 4) Nirvana. Alice in Chains and Soundgarden have the most metallic sound and influences, which is why I put them up top. Pearl Jam has a more classic rock feel to them, which is why I put them above Nirvana. I think I also got a bit sick of Nirvana due to overexposure, although they were still a legendary band.
I think it’s should be 1) Alice In Chains 2) Nirvana 3) SoundGarden 4) Pearl Jam
"What people don't realize is that the so-called Seattle grunge scene grew out of several close-knit gourmet supper clubs - we would only pick up guitars to pass the time while our dishes were simmering, baking, boiling, etc." - Kurt Cobain
Glad to see AIC get the worthy respect it deserves. One of my favorite bands ever. The 90s grunge scene will go down as one of the most impactful music eras ever.
Rest in Peace Andrew Wood, Chris Cornell, Mark Lanegan, Scott Weiland (and later Chester Bennington), Layne Staley, Mike Starr, Mike Cross, Kurt Cobain, and the "Godmother of Grunge" Tina Bell.
"I'd rather be hated for who I am , then Loved for who I am not."
- Kurt Kobain
"Best two rock voices I've heard in a last few years both have been from grunge bands: it's Eddie Vedder and the other one is Chris Cornell from Soundgarden." - Bruce Dickinson
Did Bruce really say that!? I'm glad he thinks this way as one of the best voices of 80s Heavy Metal
1-4 are totally interchangeable, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains are all better bands in my option, but Nirvana will always top lists like this because of their cultural relevance for the time period.
Very well stated 👏
I think all 4 bands are equally as talented and had a major impact on rock, but Alice In Chains and Nirvana were just on another level in my opinion, they both deserve number 1
@@brandonaceituno1756 They're dope
Even though Nirvana is my least favorite of the "big 4", I think they are only challenged by AIC, because of the impact and influence they had in the industry. I'd say 1-2 3-4 are interchangeable.
nirvana will now and forever be the best grunge band ever to exists in my mind as well of many other people. rip kurt you will always hold a very very special place in my heart and mind and I will always love you thank you for all you did for the grunge era and for all you did as a person.
Amen 🙏
Pearl Jam in #4!? They were the band of the 1990's! They took the genre to another level!!!
My list is more like:
1pearl jam,
2alice,
3nirvana,
4soundgarden,
5stone temple,
6screaming trees,
7temple of the dog,
8mad season,
9mother love bone,
10mudhoney
My Top Five Favorite Grunge Bands Will Always Be Nirvana, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden & Stone Temple Pilots.
We should have all listened to Pearl Jam about ticketmonster.
Originally Eddie wasn’t really in Temple of the Dog, he was just hanging out, but he noticed Chris (a great friend of Andrew Wood) was struggling to sing the low and high parts of Hunger Strike at the same time, and he quietly stepped in to take the low part.
This is the music I loved jamming to as a kid.
Soundgarden - The Day I Tried To Live: The real grunge anthem.
My list:
1. Pearl Jam
2. Alice In Chains
3. Nirvana
4. STP
5. Soundgarden
I like/love them all but I connect heavily with PJ and AIC whereas I feel Nirvana is great but overhyped and Soundgarden is the hardest to connect to. STP is very underrated imo.
Soundgarden will always be my favorite. There will never be anyone who tops Cornell.
Layne stayley does for me
@@zachlovesfitness8485For us!
"A band needs to practice, in our opinion, at least 5 times a week if the band ever expects to accomplish anything."
-Kurt Cobain
"I'd rather be hated for who I am , then Loved for who I am not."
- Also Kurt Kobain
Mad Season had a great record.
EXACTLY. I Love Mad Season 😊💓🤘✌️
Hm..wonder who was their singer ;)
Yo the top 4 should go like this
4. Soundgarden
3. Alice In Chains
2. Pearl Jam
1. Nirvana
Perfection.
I’d even put STP over Soundgarden. Great bands.
Solid list but AIC will always top the ranking imo. ❤
I'm glad to see the "core 4" is in the top 4 on this list, so you did your research. As someone who was a teenager in the 90s and listened to these bands every day (still do), I appreciate that.
I miss the 90s so much 😔
Even though Chris Cornell is my favorite singer I've got to put Soundgarden as my second favorite grunge band overall behind Alice in chains. Although this opinion may change tomorrow because I love them both so much.
Love this list, I just see Pearl Jam as 1, no less than 2
1. Alice In Chains
2. Soundgarden
3. Nirvana
4. Pearl Jam
5. Stone Temple Pilots
Pearl Jam is at least better than Nirvana if not better than Soungarden as well but they're defintely better than Nirvana, no doubt.
Great list.
"Practice makes perfect but nobody's perfect, so why practice?"
-Also Kurt Cobain
Smashing Pumpkins deserve to be on this list
I was never a big grunge fan. I can take or leave pretty much every band on this list, but Soundgarden I absolutely love; Badmotorfinger is one of my favourite albums by anyone ever. Nirvana isn't far behind, and though I used to tease some of my friends who were superfans I think Nirvana conveyed a rawness and passion that most other grunge bands couldn't match. It made many of the latter always sound so commercial and homogenized in comparison, at least to me. I did like some STP, though, and L7 was pretty damn fun.
Finally someone mentioned L7! We need fitz of depression on this list too
Badmotorfinger is the best Soundgarden album imo! Too many dope bangers can be found there. ❤
1° Nirvana 2° Stone Temple Pilots 3° Soundgarden !
My top 3 grunge bands:
1° Alice In Chains
2° Nirvana
3° Soundgarden
I’m glad to see Silverchair got some love.
Great video
Silverchair ❤ 🇦🇺
Great band still watch the clip of the boys playing Tomorrow live at the MTV awards show.
Alice in chains all the time my number 1
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! Nirvana for the win..!!
I feel like Hole should at least get an honorable mention.
Chris Cornell did all. Soungarden, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, Grammy Nomination from Solo Work, Songs for Cassino Royale and Avengers. Then, more Soundgarden.
Obs: He had voice struggles too. I guess it's the same as it was with Axl Rose. Too much raw power. Mixed that up with drugs, and you have a problem.
Yes luv it
Days Of The New. Got to see em live. Well Travis Meeks and his rotation of solid studio musicians morelike. They had a big resonance with me.
I usually search for Travis news till this day in hopes for Purple, and I was the creator of the Brazilian fanclub.
1. Nirvana
2. Soundgarden
3. Alice in Chains
4. Pearl Jam
If this is your music taste, you have the best taste
I'm a 2001 kid definitely and I indefinitely love 90s music
What if my taste also travels along the 60s-80s?
Top 5 should be
1.Nirvana
2. Soundgarden
3. AIC
4. STP
5. Bush
L7 and Melvins should have made the main list and AIC definitely my number one out of these bands. The harmonies between Layne and Jerry will always be phenomenal. They deserve to be in the Hall of Fame for sure.
Screaming Trees #1. Love that sound and Mark's voice. RIP Van and Mark Lanegan
Best lyric about the Seattle scene exploding was from Mudhoney "you got your sack full of candy all I got was a rock."
Mad season should have been on this list
I feel TAD deserves an honorable mention
I think they should have made the list.
I love grunge music all of my favorites bands are on this list
I’ve never watched a top ten before and 100% knew who was going to be number one
Pearl Jam went from #2 twice to #4. If anything they should have gone to #1
I think Collective Soul should have been at least had an honorable mention. Silver Chair? Really?
Thank you! I adore Collective Soul.
Enjoyable video. More attention could've been given to the Subpop bands and those who were on the Deep Six comp though. Silverchair and Bush are typically regarded as post-grunge and shouldn't have taken the place of groups like Tad, Love Battery, U-Men, Green River, and others.
Great list! Wouldn’t Live be considered part of the grunge movement?
Top 5 should've been:
1. Nirvana
2. Pearl Jam
3. Soundgarden
4. Alice in Chains
5. Stone Temple Pilots
Also Silverchair should've been replaced on this list with Candlebox.
I love all the Seattle big four... But my god I love Alice in Chains soo muchh. Layne's voice, Jerry's guitar and their perfect synchronised harmony voice when doing slow rock tunes.... Such a great masterpiece!
Candlebox, matchbox20, silverchair and nirvana..😎
I Love Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains and Mad Season and Temple of the Dog. 😊💓🤘✌️
I will definitely check most of these out the ones I never heard before yet so I will gladly listen
⤴️⤴️⤴️let's talk thanks for watching and leaving a comment, you won a prize🎊🎊🎊
15 great bands: The top 10, the honorable mentions, plus the twice-mentioned Mother Love Bone!
What about Hole? They deserve a mention
Nirvana will always be the gods of grunge and can never be replaced
No surprise their #1 💯🔥
I like to know how did they came with the name of the group
@@seanlauer9222 Kurt wanted the band name to be nice and beautiful not some grungy name that most bands had
@@akatsukijutsu545 Really?! Now that I didn’t know

Top 4 is Soundgarden, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam in 1, all incredible bands, but one of the best grunge songs of all time (black) was Pearl Jam as well as other amazing songs like Jeremy, Even Flow, Rearview Mirror, etc
Great
90’s and early 2000’s was the last great era of music
Yah movies too
Alternative rock was the last stick before the utter mainstream trash we call "music" we have today.
Before watching this Nirvana N.O1
Pearl Jam n.o 2
Sound garden n.o3
Alice in Chains n.o4
Sonic youth no.5 my rankings are based on fav songs
Top 20 Greatest Rock woman of All Time
Grunge is one of the most influential genres of music that rose and fell within a generation, that everyone still brings up.
But these lists and such will never compete with what it was like to BE in that era and LIVE during the time of grunge and how it shaped [the then] modern music…
Sour Girl is my favorite STP music video
Will you at least add Sonic youth please? Not too late for an honorable mention. Fitz of Depression was a very important band in the Pacific Northwest at that time also. Nirvana used to open for them in Olympia and then fitz started opening for Nirvana.
Best period of music ever!
I would Pearl Jam at #1 just based on longevity alone. They are still going!
Love me some Bush
I just Saw Bush back in September with Breaking Benjamin and they are AWESOME
Alice in Chains should've been number 1.
No lol
You’re joking right?
Yup
Nirvana sold more…that’s why they’re number 1
@@kalen0000
And I heard they were the first.
They kick-started this tradition with “Smells Like Teen Spirit”.
Bush is not grunge. Tad needs to be on this list. It’s criminal to not include them
ROCK N ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, WatchMojo. You should definitely do a list of the Top 20 Best EDM Songs of the 2000's. I have some examples of these songs they should get a mention.
Examples:
Benny Benassi - Satisfaction (2002)
Enur feat. Natasja - Calabria 2007 (2007)
Daft Punk - One More Time (2000)
Edward Maya feat. Vika Jigulina - Stereo Love (2009)
Eric Prydz - Call on Me (2004)
Deadmau5 feat. Rob Swire - Ghosts 'n' Stuff (2008)
Ian Van Dahl - Castles in the Sky (2001)
ATC - Around the World (La La La La La) (2000)
In my Opinion the top 4 were in the correct order, Nirvana will always be the number one best band of all time in my opinion, and Layne Staley will always be the best vocal singer of all time
WatchMojo, thank you so much for not making a nightmare-inducing still from the Soundgarden "Black Hole Sun" music video the thumbnail of this video. I really, really appreciate it. Happy Thanksgiving to all the American WatchMojo fans out there!
Chris Cornell has the most amazing vocals
Nice...
ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alice in chains is so underrated they kicked off the grunge era and their lyrics were so much deeper with great instrumental
If L7 is in here i think hole or babes in toyland sould be too!
Kurt is the godfather of grunge,it is fit Nirvana should be top
I keep re-writing this so I'll keep it simple: fucking amazing bands.
Decent list. Should make it a top 20 thou. I can't believe you left out Garbage, Live, oasis, blur, the cranberries. Etc
