God save Eddie
And AIC bassist Michael Starr who died of overdose.
@@fenkoken6573 This comment deserves more recognition
No one remebers Mark Lanegan :(
The only one I never liked...figures
Aaaaah aah, oooooh ooh Eddie still alive yeeeeeeaah
When I clicked on the video, I thought "If Dirt isn't on this, we riot". I am pleased with the result.
Me too, I thought the same thing. For once a countdown where Nirvana wasn't #1
Yeah I was mumbling "if Dirt isn't number one I'm gonna punch a fucking tree" and good thing it is in number one because I don't want to punch a tree
Same though, I’m actually super happy right now because I love AIC.
If you don't think Dirt was the best grunge album ever made, you either:
A - Have never felt pain
B - Have never listened to the whole album in one sitting.
C - Have Opinion
I felt pain and I listened to the whole album, but I still prefer Nevermind
J O K I N G
I’ve listened to the whole thing many, many times and I still prefer Superunknown and In Utero by a large margin. None of the tracks besides Down In A Hole and Would? are more than a 7/10 for me.
@@anonymoususer2756 Them Bones? Dam that rover? Rooster?
Facelift should be higher..
Facelift over dirt
@@theimmortalsleazus8057 Tripod>Facelift>Dirt
true ☑️
Nailed it that’s the order I think to. They all are equally as killer it just depends what your in the mood for.
Facelift is kick fucking ass
even though it's an ep jar of flies is perfection.
I wore out that tape twice.
It's my favorite release of any genre, so of course I would have put it at the top
EP not album
Drake Sellen Did you even read his comment? Absolute doof shit.
Nutshell is one the most beautiful haunting songs ever made...
Stone Temple Pilots - Core was a pretty significant album imo!
true 100% core its better than purple.
Hundred times better than purple.
Core for sure was a Top 10
i love purple but core is way more important/essential by comparison.
IN UTERO SHOELD BE NUMBER 1.honestly I think in utero is better than nevermind
Finally putting some respect on AIC. They’re beyond music.
Why
right! i saw a rolling stone article of best grunge albums, and dirt didn't even list top 5??!
💯 FUCKIN RIGHT!!! RIP LAYNE
@@kiramackinnon7932 Rolling Stone is a joke anyway. Like MTV these days.
“Dirt” is one of the most legendary albums of all time. It’s an absolute masterpiece.
Pleasantly surprised that "Dirt" is no. 1!
Yes
Same
@DerManiac Same. I know I'll get a lot of pitchforks, but Nirvana wouldn't have been half as revered if Kurt had lived.
can't compare to Nevermind, ever!
Yes but Lane's masterpiece is Above
AIC on the first place. You may have my like.
god damn right Dirt is no.1
Like number 69. Nice
No
@@Xxrocknrollgod ?
I personally like face-lift better but hey
@@ash_aiden Yes. Such an underrated album. Every track is an absolute banger
It's missing Mad Season- Above. That album is a masterpiece.
completely agree with that
Indeed
Dirt at number one, just how it should be.
I believe it should be nevermind
@@chosenundead7130 I mean yeah I'd agree
Unpopular Opinion: Facelift is better than Dirt
@@chosenundead7130 why
@@chosenundead7130 Popularity wise, yes. Musically, no (IMO). Dirt is just way better sounding, more relatable and has a great story to it.
Im just here to checkout if Dirt is number one ...
@MrBrenman21 yes it should
Dirt is the best album in music history
@@justinwilliams9262 bold statement, but a true statement
Wow. Loudwire REALLY loves AIC.
You cant blame them
@@stoneshitcrayz4867 I mean i love AIC but first they say they have no bad albums and now they put Dirt as the best grunge album of all time. I think it's a bit too much lol
@@renapeppers20 No it's not !!
@@renapeppers20 For a great reason and it's Facts
Renato Contreras it’s the absolute truth
RIP Cornell but can we talk about how bad that performance of black hole sun was?
If I'm not mistaking, that was MTV Live and Loud 1996. His voice was in a pretty bad shape by that time, and he has said that the Down on the Upside tour almost breaks him. The performance of "Mailman" from that show was pretty awesome tho
Might, but how bout speakin how awesome the other 4 tracks were
@MrBrenman21 imo Layne was better
@MrBrenman21 Hell yeah, also still imo
@MrBrenman21 So is yours bud
4 out of the 5 frontmans are gone 😢
Eddie: "Heeeeeeey I'm still alive"
We should protect Eddie, we can't allow for him to be lost
Mark Lanegan.
Mark Arm
for anyone in the replies confused for some unknown reason im sure he means kurt, layne, scott, chris, & eddie, w/ eddie being the only one left
AIC - Dirt it's a masterpiece, they absolutely deserve the N° 1 spot
I love Soundgarden in general but Badmotorfinger was better than Superunknown imo. Also deserves to be in the top 3
I think Badmotorfinger is a little hard to listen to front to back. Unlike Superunknown... It has a lot more diversity. Love em both tho
@@mykhaylok.7248 ditto
Badmotorfinger is my sixth favourite album of all time
No
I think Superunknown is better but Slaves and Bulldozers is probably Soundgarden best song
Dirt and Superunkmown are both great..depends on the day for me and my mood
But this list is really good
@MrBrenman21 that's a great album as well
But Mailman, 4th of July, Limo wreck, Like Suicide..to me, can't beat that plus the bigger hits on the album..
Eraserhead
those albums should have been number one and number 2. badmotorfinger was ranked way way too low. also core from stp should have been on the list
Who all like to eat Pancakes ?
Took me a while 😂
This joke is so bad I'll pour bleach on my eyes
@@renapeppers20 I know, I expect All Apologies.
Well at least I’m not easily amused
IRONIC
I'm very glad AIC was #1 instead of Nirvana. I feel that a lot of people overlook their contribution. Dirt was my favorite album for a long time. Their MTV Unplugged album is an absolute gem.
Nah dude AIC trashhh lmao
@@epicvbucker3401 not trash as nirvana tho
@@joosuahuopaniemi471 AIC more trash
@@epicvbucker3401 at least their lyrics make sense and the singer can sing and doesnt voice crack every 5 second
What do you mean? I don't get AICs lyrics either and Layne is just doing obnoxious screaming.
Mother Love Bone's Apple?
Melvins' Houdini?
Mudhoney' Self Titled?
L7's Bricks Are Heavy?
I see your a man/woman of culture as well...
Melvins are fucking amazing might see them this summer in germany
Nice to meet a fellow MLB fan.
I cannot find Courtney Love's Hole either.
@@soundofominous4646 I find your logic faultless!!
Core was both better and more grunge than Purple. Dropped the ball there. Otherwise, great list.
I prefer Purple tbh
Sterling Pilgrim Purple isn’t bad, but it’s not as good as Core imo 😎
Purple gets my vote as the better of the two, probably my fav STP album. Did have me scratching my head though; Core is definitely much more of a "Grunge" album and would have been a better suit for the list.
so right. Core is one of the “grungier” albums ever. Plush alone would almost top this list as the most grunge thing from that era
THANK YOU. SOMEBODY WITH THEIR HEAD ON STRAIGHT.
Top 10 Prog Metal albums of All-Time
Top 10 Death Metal albums of All-Time
Top 10 Power Pop albums of All-Time
Top 10 Soul Albums of All-Time
Soon you'll see all of it)
Still waiting for that Prog list. Get on that Loudwire!
Would Dir En Grey's "Uroboros" be considered Prog. Metal? also would "DUM SPIRO SPIRO" be death metal enough for that top 10 list?
100/100
For the prog list, despite the influence of Images and Words, I would honestly put Awake.
Mudhoney getting slept on again, anyway I'm glad Dirt is number 1 for me it's either ten or dirt. I also think in utero>nevermind but that's just me
in utero is better than nevermind.
My list is
1. Incestiside
2. In Utero
3. Nevermind
4. Bleach
Not trying to put down Bleach though, love that album
Tip for all of you - to look at “with the lights out”
In Utero is my favorite Nirvana album but I feel like just because Nevermind is overrated compared to the rest doesn’t mean it still isn’t a very good album
L7
Melvin's
U-Men
Mother Love Bone
Pixies
The Breeders
The Fastbacks
Green River
Babes in Toyland
Bikini Kill
Wipers
Candlebox
Screaming Trees
The Raincoats
Bear Happening
Those last two aren't grunge bands tho they're really good bands
Check those bands out
This only goes to show that Mad Season, Blind Melon, Mother Love Bone and Mudhoney are criminally underrated!
Temple should be higher, but thank you for not going the obvious route by making Nevermind number one. Alice in Chains Dirt is amazing.
I think Ten is better than Nevermind too, but at least they didn't put Nevermind as #1
charlie172011 I think all the others are better than Nevermind, In Utero included. And Ten actually outsold Nevermind too.
Temple is a 1 song wonder TBH
The Driver absolutely wrong.
@@damiankarras OK then elaborate. Because it is not because of timing and 2 bands dispersing that TOTD only had 1 album, otherwise explain Tool & APC, it is because they had no other song to gain momentum from. 1 hit wonder.
Alice in chains ftw
Scott Dair I liked again this comment u wrote again lol
Enrique Pastor the cunts deleted the first video 😂
@@scottdair5968 Have you ever heard, thing called "opinion"?
@@HeraclitorisScroll well he had an opinion
I know most people consider them more alternative than grunge but why isn’t smashing pumpkins Siamese dream or Gish on this list, they were equally as heavy and unique as other grunge bands at the time...
They aren’t grunge, just because they are as heavy and unique doesn’t mean that they are. (This isn’t meant to be a mean comment, just informative 😄)
Fussy Cubing it’s weird though cause the term grunge means bands that were from Seattle, however stone temple pilots were from San Diego and yet they’re still labelled as grunge ? I know that anything post 1994 is not grunge therefore melon collie is alternative. Either one of their first two albums should’ve at least had a mention imo
Gish should definitely be on this list
Grunge wasn't a style, it's just rock bands from Seattle scene. None of those bands called themselves grunge
Most definitely would have included Gish
Dirt it's not only the best grunge album. It is one of the best album ever made. Thanks Aic.
huge aic fan im okay with dirt with being one but not happy with super unknown and badmotorfinger being so low!
Dirt is one the best rock album ever made. The sound is very much unique from what was been going in the late 80s, it literally came with a boom! Layne's vocals, Jerry's guitar, Starr's bass, Sean's drums were just on fucking point. Layne absolutely smashed even Jerry's killer lyrics and put all his heart out. Sadly he's no more :( we love you Layne.
Finally AIC getting the respect they truly deserve!!!!! DIRT is a masterpiece!! Pleasantly surprised that is wasn’t your typical Nirvana Nevermind list!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Above by Mad Season should’ve gotten some love! That album is amazing!
You said it. Nearly word for word I was getting ready to leave the same comment.
Well said dude. Dirt is such a phenomenal record
Mad Season was more Bluesy than grunge.
Nevermind was way better *AIC fans triggered*
AIC was the only good grunge band imo, their music still holds up today. Nirvana was cool and all but maybe it was more about the statement and attitude than the music. Pretty unlistenable today.
Alice in chains, Facelift album is phenomenal
Thrilled Dirt was put at no. 1. Truly a masterpiece.
Layne was in really bad shape in that We Die Young version....
How bad did he sing it for you to think that was We Die Young? :D
@@laurawhelan5153 what a disgrace, he was great
This show was in Brazil, 1993. The band had just released Dirt
@@CarlosTourinho That means he was loaded on cocaine and heroin if it was Brazil 1993
brother you haven't seen 1998 layne, completely unrecognizable
Very surprised and pleased that Dirt took the number one spot. Staley’s haunting voice, Cantrell’s dark lyrics and sludgy guitar riffs on that album really personify what “Grunge” is.
And where is Mother Love Bones "Apple" album
I was just getting ready to ask the same thing
@@joshbates6339 Do you think Andy really embodied Grunge the way the PJ and Soundgarden did? He was still riffing on the 80s rock motif imho.
I don't think that has a reference in this. I think the album itself stands on it's own as an amazing piece of work
Sterling Pilgrim Andy Wood was a legend, he was a true pioneer of the Seattle sound. Same with Chris Cornell, but Eddie vedder is chump. Doesn’t even belong in the same conversation as the Seattle scene.
Missing Mad Season here, much better than some of those pearl jam choices
I agree,
Above is better than pj´s VS
Ah the 90s, back when security at concerts patted you down to make sure you weren't smuggling in a video camera!
When #2 dropped I was preparing myself for Dirt not to be on this list at all. Then I got 😱. Thanks for keeping it real 🥰
I was actually surprised by Nevermind not being #1, but absolutely perfect choice for #1 if you weren’t going to pick Nevermind.
In utero was better than Nevermind.
@@aleksastamenkovic5526 obviously
Nevermind imo is so overrated, after Lithium i think it falls flat.
Imo Ten, Superunknown, Badmotorfinger, Dirt (my favourite) and Facelift are all way better albums

Where are?:
Mad Season - Mad Season
Houdini - Melvins
Throwing Copper - LIVE
Siamese Dream - The Smashing Pumpkins
Candlebox - Candlebox
Frogstomp - Silverchair
Maybe a mention should be great
you really think throwing copper and siamese dream are grunge albums?
Both live in the same world
joshua mcinnis 𝐓hank You!! With the exception of the Melvins...NONE of those are grunge!! Either alternative or rock!!
Sad that Candlebox didn’t make it big enough to get in the club though!! Very underappreciated band and they’re from Seattle!!
I’d put their debut against the “debuts” of the Big 4 and Candlebox holds their own!!
No green river? Mudhoney? Mother love bone? The melvins?!
Retarded list having no Mudhoney.. literally the godfathers of grunge
there couldve been some more grunge starters like skin yard, flipper and melvins with green river and mudhoney
Badmotorfinger is such an epic album!
Dirt is undeniably number 1. The best grunge album ever
Temple of the Dog, hell yeah🤘
It's sad how many of these bands lead singers have died... RIP
Every true grunge fan knows that dirt is the best grunge album ever released
Homless rock was never my thing except Soundgarden
Stp core was better than purple
Incorrect but ok
@@nickkenneyjpg you're own opinion, I have my own,
Fully agree. Purple was Radio rock. Core was actually grunge.
@@thirstypilgrim97 core was more raw new my favorite album from them
Can’t be grunge if you aren’t from Seattle
Personally, I'd put Alice in Chains' self-titled album in over Facelift.
yeah, it is very underrated album
Agreed
also jar of flies by Alice in Chains was a masterpiece. They had a flawless discography when Layne was alive.
But it wasn't grunge, it was just straight metal.
Nice list. We can always argue the order - for instance, I think Badmotorfinger was better than Superunknown - but you got most of the best albums on here. Also props for not totally hanging off Nirvana's nuts like most of the other 90's and grunge lists do. Dirt was an incredible freaking album and definitely deserves the #1 spot.
Number 1 was obvious
You son of a bitch. Fuck you and your profile picture I just looked like a dumb ass trying to take a piece of hair off of my screen.
Milk and Honey lmao
Every album on the list is awesome. I noticed that Cornell sang on 3 of the albums and so did Vedder.
Finally, Alice In Chains is number 1 on a grudge list!!!!!🎸
Whatever this list says, Soundgarden rocks, they made masterpiece albums, best band of em all!! Imho
Alice In Chains (Facelift or Dirt) better be on here
YES THEY WERE #1
Thank you for this amazing video
25yrs ago this year here in Whangarei, New Zealand I held a tribute concert with a live band to mark Kurt's passing. I miss Layne, Andrew & now Chris. Alternative music has played a huge part in my life and the Seattle scene played a huge part in shaping my musical taste. I will always be grateful for it along with the Rap and Thrash Metal and Heavy Metal music.
I LOVE GRUNGEE ❤
Jar of files should be in this list
I remember first hearing "Would". Blew me away. Never heard anything so heavy.

Core?
I was under the impression that I was the only one thinking that Alice in Chains is above Nirvana when it comes to talent.
They’re all above Nirvana when it comes to talent
Christopher Bingham maybe, but I think I've heard more bands with a sound closer to that of Alice than that of Nirvana.
@Christopher Bingham nobody gives a fuck about influence anymore because almost every band sucks now
