Also me (realising a certain song used to campy humorous affect in a certain Gecko mascoted insurance brand’s commercial): What no ‘Round and Round’ *sighs*
Edit: feel free to correct me if I’m mistaken😂

So the "popularity" refers to the song, not the artist. Stranger Things made the song popular again to the point that it finally reached #1 on UK single chart and #3 on Billboard Hot 100, a new peak in both charts. During the 80s we fought for more than most today will never experience. That's why the 80s music is the way it is. We stood true to ourselves and that created a nationwide unity, something that doesn't exist today. Today it's to follow the crowd, no matter if bad or good but mostly bad, we didn't follow any crowds. Each of us had our own voice and we were heard. We lived the American Dream. Today there is no American Dream only sadness, fear and depression. But the 80s was ours and we lived the 80s like there was no tomorrow.

Taking off for hours with the parents enjoying the kids being gone, kids drinking from the garden hose or water faucet. Biking around randomly or looking to see what house had who's bikes at it... Naturally, it started with U.S. artists, but I began to enjoy other artists too (e.g., Genesis, Yes, Tears For Fears, Naked Eyes, Men At Work, etc.). When GTA Vice City came out it reignited the spark, particularly to a new generation. Sometimes I miss things like "Friday Night Videos", the hype of waiting to see the next MJ video, Hall & Oates. Careless Whisper is so misunderstood song. It's played in a lot of wedding parties, where neither the bride nor the groom understands the true meaning of the song, which is very obvious if you listen carefully to the lyrics. It's taken as a highly romantic song, thanks to the sax, whereas the song is actually about a really nasty and sad breakup. George Michael wrote it when he was 17! At that age he was capable of writing so deep song that you're left wondering what happened.

Honestly, rick-rolling has immortalized Rick Astley in the minds of both Millennials and Gen Zr's. ALSO! This list is banging, spot on. For once, WatchMojo got it 100% right. ALSO, about 5 of these songs are from Stranger Things. Go watch it, go rewatch it, I know I'm gonna.

I love most of those songs. My parents listened it when I was small and I still love them :) Sometimes I like the new version too. But original is always better.

“I Wanna Dance with Somebody” was in the movie “Isn’t It Romantic” and “True” was literally in an 80’s based movie called “The Wedding Singer.” But I’m shocked that you didn’t have any songs from Duran Duran who were literally 80’s darlings! Quite literally any Duran Duran song would do but here are a few of my favorites: “Hungry Like the Wolf,” “Wild Boys,” and “The Reflex.”

Considering that Duran Duran was created as a money-making machine for the record company, that group had tremendous talent and wrote a wide variety of truly excellent songs. Not my favourite band from the era, but one that definitely has my respect.

Not sure if it qualifies but Stranger things made me aware of the song - Rock You Like A Hurricane by Scorpions, played on Billie's intro.

If there was ever another list of this, I wonder if "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)" by Dead or Alive would fall under this category? I do, however, think this is a very solid list, and that all the songs on it are deserving of the recognition they're getting. "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley definitely deserves its spot on this list, since its resurgence in popularity refuses to fade, and Rick Rolling is still a fun pastime.
