  • OSU students were creating TikTok videos for entomologists at the 2022 Southwestern Branch Meeting of the Entomological Society of America. I took them up on the opportunity and this is one of two videos they created. Their TikTok account is insects_okstate

Thanks! I have not yet attempted to keep Atta or Acromyrmex. Someday I will try to get a colony going.

I'm hoping to get Neoponera apicalis soon, really looking forward to getting them!

Amazing colonies. Love the wooden nest. Do you have a humidity source in or attached to the wooden nest? I've heard of people attaching test tubes filled with water and some humidity transfers into the nest. Is this needed for these ants?

The humidity source is the water tower at the center. Camponotus decipiens like it dry so I don’t keep much water in that tower.

So are these colonies held at Oklahoma State? Or in Texas? And are any of these species also found in Oklahoma?

No these are my colonies at home here in Texas. Students from OSU were present at the ESA meeting I was attending and offered to make a TikTok video with my content. You can find the harvester and carpenter ants in Oklahoma as well. Neoponera in the USA can only be found at the Texas and Mexico border currently

I don’t have experience with that species of Pogonomyrmex in particular. What kind of setup are they in? If in a test tube, make sure they have a layer of sand to walk on. They don’t like those smooth glass surfaces.

I hope that this is not one of those channels that now Frozen the spider just see the ants kill it
