A bombastic hit for the Detroit Spinners. I used the original backing track to show off the magnificence of the Funk Brothers and James Jamerson's amazing bass lineand extend the track.
Grooved to this in 1970/71 as a marine stationed in Quantico, Va., with my best friend Morris Williams from Tampa Fla. He's passed now, but everytime I hear this those times come flooding back. God those were good times and great music. Thanks Mosogotam
Thanks black America for giving the world soul. Love 💘 from England
I once asked the question in some comments "what would the world be without us" I got more hate than anything.😝 I understood it though. Probably was more envy than anything 🙏🏾✌🏾 peace and blessings!🤓
I believe the boy wonder wrote this one for them👍🏾
@@WarrenHollyYes, Stevie Wonder did indeed write this song 😍
@@sweetblaqcoffey962 🤓👍🏾 I'm sorry. I was distracted watching this country self destruct. I told a racist years ago that until they do right by us and the 1st nation people of this country they will have no peace. Look at them now 🤔
I believe this song was co-written.
James Jamerson isolated bass line.!! Double treat with this post ❤
One of the best songs EVER
bassline is efffin killing...good lawd...James Jamerson.
them funk brothers yessir
Who is singing tenor?
Like a fine wine, gets better with age
It's a shame today's music isn't this bad ass!!
im hearring its ashame by the spinners the Extended version its one of the greatest hits ever made .TheDeep soul full sounds are so orchistraded from the heart that its a sham that more people dont hear and recognize a true art that is passing in the windows of time its a shame
It's absolute garbage and they can't sing for shit!
Você é um 🤡ok
Okayyyyyyyyyy.😅😊
Gold. Born in 1962, grateful for the music of our youth. The music doesn’t age (like we do!), and the memories flood back. Where U were, who U were with, the power of hope, of the future. Life does administer lessons, set backs, challenges to all of us. Hang in there.
Bless you all.
Same here! I was borne the same year as you, when Stevie Wonder first showed his amazing talent! Blessings and love to you as well 💜
What the hell happened to all our beautiful music of the 60"70"80". it definitely a SHAME!
This generation today don't know real music. Ain't nothing like some good old school.
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

The Goat right there with this sound.🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆💯💯💯💯💯🎷🎷🎷🎷🎤🎤🎤🎤🎺🎺🎺🎺
The great James Jameson once again, killing dat bass baby.
FANF'NTASTIC! G.C.CAMERON'S INTRO IS MARVELOUS ALONG WITH THE EXTENSION....THANK YOU FOR THIS!
somebody please bring back music like this again Wil we ever hear music and artists like this again this is what real music sounds like.
That bassline is unreal!
THE BASELINE IS THE BIZZNIZZ!
I think its James Jameson playing Bass - even McCartney reckons he was the greatest Bass player of all time ////
What about that stout brother on Stevie's "Do I DO"?
That was The Greatest Bassist on Earth, The Late James Jamerson of Motown's " The Funk Brothers " Jazz Musicians that The Great Berry Gordy assembled to do all of his artist's music.
You must talking about be great Nate Watts....He's been Stevie's bassist forever. I love "Do I Do", but the masterpiece for Nate is "I Wish". He is amazing!!! But the crown for bass has to go to Jamerson. He really was The Motown Sound.
*BEST EXTENDED VERSION OF A SONG, EVER, HANDS DOWN!!! 💜💯*
Listen to the extended version of "Bernadette" by the Four Tops. I think you'd revise your statement!
@michaelconner1771 I'm just here to say YES YES YES!!! To That song "Bernadette " Extended Version. PHENOMENAL Track as well. And that End Part, Whew! Blessings. 😅❤
@shameanthomas2019
Ain't it good? I got my headphones on and it's just soooo good!! ❤️👍👏
Just loved this sound as a teen in Indiana then, and in Ohio as a vet, teacher, and American in 2024. My fave as a young man. Just great music.
Motown was just bad ass there will never be anything like it again in our lifetime
The greatest version of this song ever.
I grew up 80 miles out of Motown. This is my music. 50 years later I still get goose bumps hearing it.
Motown is THE BEST...so much raw talent....love it all....
50 years and 1600 miles from Detroit, same here
Who is singing tenor
I grew up across the river from Motown. To me it is still the best of my childhood. Thanks Motown, then.
I dew 2 🎉
The Funk Bros. with Jamerson on bass... Doesn't get much better than that!
"The Hook"!
I Agree!!!!
Funk bros at their best. Damn.
Hell yes.
Alki Balboa Stevie Wonder was on Drums

Yep, Phillipe Wynn's cousin
Please bring back songs like this again.
I’m only 25 & love this song as if I was around for when it first hit the radios 📻🤞🏽💯
We stepped to this number at my first talent show. Lot's of fun
Always a Spinner Fan
His falsetto is OMG! I listen to this song growing up and always wanted my parents to rewind that part when he sings falsetto "Why do you use you me, try to confuse how can you stand to be so cruel, why don't you free me from this prison as I served my time as your fool" Yessss honey!
Yes, G.C. Cameron was a great R&B singer. Both in his natural and falsetto.
@@Greyareas27 GC is still out there.
I sing this whenever I can in performance, definitely a signature song for me. On my best day, I can nail most of the falsetto. At 61 though, it's a little tougher but I still got it. Extremely blessed to still be in the 🎯 game.
@@hossridr1 GC Cameron was a Lead singer for the Temptations 2003-07 and 2019
Awesome
James Jamerson remained seated while recording this bassline, so you wouldn't when you listened to it.
Wouldn't what?????
Remain sitting....
Bill Slocum , wow!!! No words, when music was MUSIC 👊respect
James Jamerson probably owns 8 of the top 10 basslines of all time. Seems right since he is the greatest bass player in our universe.
Played with just one finger, what he called "The Hook"!
I am addicted to this song. Again! 47 years later. What kind of unholy madness and sweet torture is this?
I know what you mean. I have this Song on a Motown Compliation and I drove along and sang although I got some "Strange" looks.
Danny Linden I will always cherish this beautiful classic some songs are just too great for words do you agree? my era so damn happy! ! !
"Free me from this prison, and torture" that's the part I never knew and just mumbled, all these years!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!! RIP Cousin Wayne.

The first time i heard this song was in 1975, i was only 12 years old. I still listen to it all the time. In my opinion, this is the greatest song the Spinners ever did. I love this extended version ~ :)

that guitar makes up 4 the whole song. i just love that guitar in the solo part.
I never knew there were other versions.
One of my top 5 favorite songs of all time. Written before my parents even met! 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾 Siiiiiinggggg Spinners!
Yeah! I believe the boy wonder wrote this one for them.
I was 11 in 1970, this was one of the greatest songs that year. Pretty sure that is Dennis Coffey and Robert white on guitars. The electric sitar being the lead instrument. And of course, the incredible mr Jameson on bass. The mix is super and the vocals knock it out of the park.
dont forget the horns
MASTERFUL!!!!! WONDERFUL JOB...takes me back 44 years youngest son was born.
They never received the notoriety they deserved. Fabulous and classy

This is a great example of Stevie Wonder's writing skills! I loved this song from the beginning, but after learning that he wrote it, being a singer/songwriter myself, I appreciated it that much more.
Ditto on that. Stevie Genius at it again!
aaronrbrundidge, same here! This has always been my favorite Spinners song and before and after I discovered Stevie Wonder wrote. The Spinners I believe are so underrated.

December 30, 2018. Classic.
June 2021. Still listening; still grooving. 😊
Even though the Spinners had more success with Atlantic and Thom Bell, this has always been my fave. "Shame" rocks! Motown's guitarists never got the credit they should have for laying down such licks.
Also, some of the greatest long versions - monumental in a couple cases - came out of Motown. Particularly "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and the plaintively magnificent "Papa Was A Rolling Stone".
This version of "It's A Shame" goes right up there. Terrific work. Putting this in my file NOW.
Stuart Stier
You Sir are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!!!!❤
Funk Brothers are off the chain !!
This was the last song they recorded before leaving Motown. They finally hit the Big Time at Atlantic working with Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff as part of The Philly Soul Sound.
Plus the great Thom Bell 👌
The Funk Brothers were still playing for Motown until 1973. That's when Mr. Jamerson was no longer under contract with Motown.
Yes. Don't forget tom bell!!!
@@rudyjackson2769 👍
I had no idea that Thom Bell worked with them. Then he along with Linda Creed (RIP) Co Wrote The Stylistics Songs. They were such a major influence. "You Are Everything" was the Love Anthem For Kevin Arnold & Winnie Cooper on The Wonder Years and in 2001 it was featured in The Finale of the very First Pop Idol Show in The UK that declared a Winner. Gareth Gates (The Runner Up) sang it with Rachel Stevens formerly of S Club 7. Russell Tompkins Falsetto was a major influence on Barry Gibb of The Bee Gees and Jordan Knight of New Kids On The Block.
hi sounds great I love it thank you from 1970 the best swimming by the pool you can't get a song like that anymore
I was really young, but it turned out to be the happiest time of my life. The music of today doesn’t compare. I miss the beautiful vocals.
Real music for any generation!
where to start? the harmony, background music, World class musicians, just simply one of the best groups and songs.
i love 70s thank you.
1970, the best year for music.
SUPER! LOVE YOUR EXTENDED!👏👏👏
This is the one for me! Hell to the naw. Cracked up at the opening and smiled and grooved in my chair for the duration of the songs. So glad that one of my all time favorite songs got the extended treatment. That guitar riff in this song makes it impossible not to move when you listen to it! Dude singing all the leads lol, had crazy range and vocal chops. Props to Stevie Wonder for writing this for The Spinners. Damn, wish I could buy this!!
One of My all Time Favorites..Grew Up In Detroit..Loved it all..
My fav-by The Spinners. 💋
the song says it is a shame. It's no shame to listen to music so good you remember it always.
OMG what a classic. GC Cameron could blow!!
WHO EVER MADE THIS REMIX OF IT'S A SHAME. HAS A GREAT BEAT AND I LISTEN TO IT OFTEN. DANCING ALL AROUND MY APARTMENT. AND CAN NOT GET ENOUGHT OF THIS SONG I LOVE IT....
Wish I 😂😊could hit those "HIGH NOTES"😅
Me 2, Terry. 🤗
Play the tambourine Jack Ashford! Funk Brothers were undeniably AWESOME.
I'm not usually a fan of messing with the original recording, but hats off to "mosogotam" for this magnificent job, as far as I'm concerned you could extend this classic for an hour and you'd never hear me complain.
awoosoul...thanks so much for the great compliment! I appreciate it!
@@mosogotam you really deserve it ! Great job !
It was this very song that turned me on to mosogotam! I'm a big fan of your work! 🎶💜
Great voices, lyrics but also a great backing band.
Probably one of the 3 greatest Motown songs of all time-no question! Thanks Stevie. Another gem! Thanks GC for amazing vocals and thanks Spinners for amazing backing vocals. And those horns, that bass and sitar. Incredible! Hard to believe this is 53 years old. Can’t see any of todays rubbishy efforts being played in 53 years time-can you?

The Spinners... the greatest soul group of all time. And that's saying a lot!
Someone said Funk Bros. on this?! WOW not to neglect the gorgeous vocals! Perfection!
Just incredible !! What a bass line !
This song may be old, but it'll NEVER DIE!!
Too bad it's NOT a 12 incher, Mos!!
At 3:44 You can hear those dirty bass strings that James never changed. He was the total package. Melody/ Funk/ Timing. He stays funky through the melodic arrangement. Nuts
This beautiful song is a masterpiece, and I love this extended version. The Spinner's definitely bring joy to your heart. To watch them perform, a real treat. The choreography is always precise. They are great talents, and old school icons, hopefully, the 2020 generations will show them love and support.
Great song!!!I remember have heard it first time back in 1970...really a great song and great mix!!!
70's one of my favorite old dies
Oh hell to the yeah!! Don't 4get the 80's I'm a ode skool junkie can't have it no other way 4REAL!!
Wow, what a beautiful song. One of my all time favorites by The Spinners. So much great music from the 70’s. So glad I grew up in that era. There will never be another like it.
I believe some of Smokey's writing style rubbed off on the Boy Wonder. They say he was like a sponge.✌🏾
South Bronx NYC major jam for all of us. Dancing and singing on the benches at the big park in Millbrook projects. Then waiting for Archie Bell and the Drells, Tighten Up!

1970 baby! Everything changed in 70.
good job this song was never long enuff....til now thanks
This is the best song GC Cameron ever done period.
That bass line though!!!!!! Love this song
PaPa this is BOMB!! this song was my favorite when it came out. I was only 3 years old at the time and made mom buy it for me on a 45 record. How can I get this. Old School will ALWAYS be The ONLY SCHOOL. These youngster's will never know.
I'm still pretty pissed The Mighty, Mighty Spinners are not in the R&R Hall of Fame yet. This stone-cold jam might become my new "Walk-In" music. I was literally stunned by the Jaw-Dropping bass playing by none other than the legend, the one and only Mr. James Jamerson. His bass playing just jumps off the record and is so funky, you need to open a window and let some fresh air in. His thick, fat bass tone and virtuoso playing simply dares you to not get up and move your hips. Hear him play one time and you will immediately recognize his sound on other great Motown hits. How he did all this with one finger continues to boggle my mind to this day. RIP James Jamerson. (The GOAT🐐)
AND THE FUNK BROTHER'S WERE MAGNIFICENT MUSICIANS... MUSIC DOES MAKE OR BREAK A SONG!! THEY ARE SOME BADASSSSS MUSICIANS!!! YES!!! BABY!!! YEEES! MOWTOWN WOULDN'T EVEN BE ON THE MAP IF IT WERE NOT FOR THESE TALENTED MUSICIANS... ALL IN GOD'S MAGNIFICENT PLAN!!!
