Remenber this when I was a fifteen year old kid, deep in love with my first girlfriend, in a disco in 1970. I thankyou most deeply Spinners for your contribution to my inner music. It's still there to the end.
in the 70's, this song would be playing every morning on the radio. My Dad and I would get to the kitchen about the same time. He would have his coffee while reading the paper. It's amazing how a song can imprint time!
I was 20 years ago when this came out. I was driving in my car it was on the radio, I had to pull over and listen and find out who this group was! That’s how much I loved this song in the music, and it still gets better every time I listen to it! The music of the 70s transcends anything and everything that is there today. That decade made the best of the best!
Beautiful music from the Golden Age -- exceptional music daily filled the radio waves and listeners could listen to endless lists of such music and groups and hits ... So grateful for UA-cam today which makes that experience possible!!!
I can't believe it but I just learned a few days ago that Stevie Wonder wrote this song. It makes perfect sense-Stevie's beautiful lyrics and the Spinners and Funk Brothers killing it. Perfection!
That’d be Stevie on most of the instruments as well. Everything but guitar and bass despite some rumours he did play everything. He also produced the track.
I loved The Spinners then and I love The Spinners now! How I miss good music. I am so lucky to have been a child in the 50's, a teen and young adult in the 60's and been able to live in those times with all the great music. I really feel for the young of the last 3-4 decades!!! They have crap for music !!!
Jerri Berg On the bright side, though, we have unlimited access to music in these days & times! Like all the funky joints that Disco-Kat puts on for us mere mortals!
I’m so glad that there’s folks like us who keep our love of this music alive & available! We can play it & teach the children now about this beautiful, wonderful music!!
Sharon Dean With all due respect, I don't think we're doing a good job raising our kids today, look at society nowadays, violence everywhere, no respect to others, entitlement sense, no morals...we're going downhill !
This song will NEVER get old, & it’s definitely one of my favorites by the Spinners. DJDiscoCat this is another SLAM DUNK, because this version is amazing 🔥🔥❤️❤️🔥🔥
I used to think a Tamborine belonged in the back of a Church pew, but in the hands of Jack Ashford...it took on a whole different meaning as an instrument.
Glad you remembered the name James Jamerson. He undoubtably was a big precursor to the sound of Philadelphia. Never tire of hearing those jamming horns.!!!!
I wasn't born when this song came out, but was aware of it for years. Then one day recently I actually heard it. Wow! I listened to it over and over, focusing on a different element each time - the bass...then the guitar...then the horns...the drums, and of course the voice overarching it all. The slow build up from plaintive lament to full throated anguish - what a well constructed piece of art this song is. Amazing.
Man, listen to that background music. Good grief, the Funk Brothers are KILLING it on this tune! And of course G.C. and the Spinners are doing their thing. Just all-around excellence. And do think: This wasn't even one of Motown's biggest hits! That company's 1960s-early 70s output is unmatched by any other record company.
@@grahamd5418 Tamla Motown is an umbrella term to cover the music produced by Gordy's company. They were separate labels but others to which artists were assigned were Gordy, Soul and V.I.P. This gem got to no. 20 in 1970 in the UK.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!! SAW THEM IN EL PASO TEX., THANK YOU STEVIE WONDER AND THANK YOU SPINNERS FOR AN EXCELLENT VERSION!!! WITH LOVE FROM CD.JUAREZ CHIH., MEXICO!!!
That's right for thanking Stevie Wonder . He wrote this for The Spinners when Berry Gordy of Motown was dismissing them, lead vocals by G.C. Cameron who went solo after this song hit the Big Time.... Phillipe' Wyn took over lead vocals when they got signed to Atlantic Records, and the rest is history, can't believe they are not in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame !

@@docbrown7679 Yeah, but no it's not. Music is trash today. I was born in 82, and music of my past is way better than the shit today. It's so detached from reality, substance, and soul. It's only getting worse. Music of my generation is 90s rap and R&B. But even I can tell you that they're only as good as they were because they grew up on music of the past. For me 60s, 70s, 80, 90s had some of the best years of music.
@@furiousgtribal4325 there was pretty good music from male musicians up to 2008 or so. Coldplay killers snowpatrol and john mayer. Then something happened and it switched to very young female acts. I guess if you're a talent agent the cross marketing into fashion for female acts is much lucrative. But they all sound the same and formula driven production.

Apsolutely fantastic !! So many great memories. Certainly brought a smile to my face 🕺💃💙

70s had to be the best time. For disco classics best music by far I grew up in the seventies I'm 63 years old I still listen to all of it greatest times ever
The Spinners they recorded some of the best music
Absolutely Love the Spinners! Especially the song "It's a Shame" Love the Lead singer and his great voice! No music like this today or ever!
Bobby Smith I believe.
Actually it is J C Cameron. He also sung the funeral song in the movie Cooly High..
"why don't you freeeeeee me from this prisonnnn, I've served my time as your fool". Damnnnnn. What an era for music. I was 3 when it dropped!
This song makes my heart skip a beat, snapping my fingers away; getting down like James brown!! I always get jiggy when I hear this song!!!
Cynthia RodriguezRamos calm down cynthia like jb 😂😂😂😂😂👍👌

I remember dancing in front of the stereo cabinet with my cousins and friends to this. Bunch of teeny boppers having fun!
I’m used to do the same 👍👍👍👍
😄 YES INDEED!!
Man... I'm still doing it. And I'm 60 now
@@terrynicholas1982 65 here...
It's definitely a shame that there are virtually no more good R & B songs like this.
I agree there’s no rhythm like it. We need music like that again might bring people together.
Imagine separating the voice from the music of today's so called singers. There is no auto tuning here. True talent.
jajajjaa totalmente cierto... Nada de tecnologia vagabunda, sino que la pura ciencia musical y vocal...
There is no comparison between then and now ! 60s n 70s were the best time of my life ! 🥳👍😁
I was 5 years old when this song came out and I loved it the moment I heard it.
I LOVE THIS SONG! The Best one that the Spinners Made! I play it every day! Great singing! Awesome Group!
i keep coming back to this one Im 72 yes I was there when Motown came and boy did they kick ass
One Of My Favorite Songs From One Of My Favorite Groups I Was 16 Years Old When This Came Out
My #1 song of all time...
I was 20 years ago when this came out. I was driving in my car it was on the radio, I had to pull over and listen and find out who this group was! That’s how much I loved this song in the music, and it still gets better every time I listen to it! The music of the 70s transcends anything and everything that is there today. That decade made the best of the best!
blackprix ABSOLUTELY!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Same here, those were great times. We had nothing, but were happy.
That arrangement for the horns is NIRVANA to the ears!!! A song for ANY DECADE !!! beautifully orchestrated and sticks to your mind like glue!!!
OH,the great memories, this is one of my all time jams.
Back to the roots .Just getting on love power. More Stevie wonder.
@@martinwilliams6627 That’s why he is Stevie WONDER
Stevie Wonder was one of three lyricists for this timeless song - The Spinners are what makes it perfect...
Makes Me Tear Up 😢😢😢😢 Such A Deep Message Perfect Melody
Jerri Berg we're the lucky ones, we good
Sharon Dean With all due respect, I don't think we're doing a good job raising our kids today, look at society nowadays, violence everywhere, no respect to others, entitlement sense, no morals...we're going downhill !
@@sharondean8955 you got it sister
This song will NEVER get old, & it’s definitely one of my favorites by the Spinners. DJDiscoCat this is another SLAM DUNK, because this version is amazing 🔥🔥❤️❤️🔥🔥
The Funk Brothers in all their glory, including James Jamerson. Wow!
YES. American treasure!!!
I used to think a Tamborine belonged in the back of a Church pew, but in the hands of Jack Ashford...it took on a whole different meaning as an instrument.
I don’t care how long you’ve been playing bass. Jamerson is un-duplicatable.
One of Stevie Wonder’s greatest songs.
funk brothers best out there
Glad you remembered the name James Jamerson. He undoubtably was a big precursor to the sound of Philadelphia. Never tire of hearing those jamming horns.!!!!
..ONE OF THE VERY BEST EVER......
Absolutely beautiful. I have the 45 and I play it all the time.
Such a classic. Never gets old.
Amazing.
I was 15 at the time and would go back in a heart beat!
I agree 100% with you my friend! This song was well written and constructed.😎👍
Lord, you're not kidding!
I was 15 @ the time too Jeff. I'd join you in that time machine & go back too !
Very astute observation on your part really appreciating the artistry and craftsmanship. G.C. Cameron the lead singer is singing all the lead parts.
Great song, I had to get my booty off the chair and start dancing 💃. Thanks for the memories, and yes.... 60’s 70’s music was the greatest !!!!!!!
Wow.... Those guitar riffs !!!
Guitar riffs??? How those horns??? Those vocals??? The whole arrangement..the song??? Lol
Written by Stevie Wonder
Y e s!!! I gotta move!!!
Yes guitar is a killer !
This cut is tight, it'll make you cry & groove at the same time! Total Badass group.
This was a bigger hit in the UK. Released on the Tamla Motown label. I believe Tamla and Motown were separate labels in the USA.
Amen!
@@grahamd5418 Tamla Motown is an umbrella term to cover the music produced by Gordy's company. They were separate labels but others to which artists were assigned were Gordy, Soul and V.I.P. This gem got to no. 20 in 1970 in the UK.
Why leave out Stevie Wonder wrote it...
@@staciasmith5162 Wrote it, produced it, played keys, drums and bass on it - Stevie got busy.
I couldn't love this tune more! Then DJ DiscoCat does an extended version adds a few more minutes to it & my life is complete!
Wow" this was my grandmother's song . What memories missing her and I miss the oldies. love the spinners 😆
Definitely one of the greatest on the verge of a breakup song!
Hi Carmen. Let's not forget Syreeta Wright, also a great talent, who co-wrote the tune.
9411OMISSION.....THANKS FOR LETTING ME KNOW THAT FACT, SURE IS A GREAT TUNE...........AND SHE IS RECOGNIZED FOR SHARING LYRYCS
To me.....this is a banger, makes me smile everytime 😂
This is my fave Spinners because it so catchy. I like this longer version better than the shorter version.

It's a Damn Shame that the music of today is so messed up.💋
I'm with you Sylvine. And if you ever get the chance to go see the Spinners it is the best show. They are so full of love and energy. And the crowd is like the way I used to see it growing, mixed and happy together.
Sylvine B you are verry right
Just crazy talk. I love this music I was born in 1960 and great music is still alive and well. As it will continue to be!!
