Honestly, this notion we have that a live band can sound identical to the album is just impossible, and that's from a sheer logical sense. For example; guitar recording. About 99% of bands double track guitars, meaning they record once send it to the left side, then record it again send it to the right, that produces a stereo effect. Sometimes bands even do that 4 times. Basically what I am saying is that we shouldn't expect to get the same sound as in studio, that's not what live playing is about, I mean, it kinda is but it's also about you seeing the musicians, feeling the good vibe etc. Sorry I did my master's degree on that very topic, and I just wanted to babble about it I guess

Two of the most prominent are the live versions of An Ocean Inbetween The Waves and Under The Pressure. The latest album is great too and right now Harmonia’s Dream is playing on repeat.
Same here. I would add Eyes to the Wind to the list of favorites. Like the other songs from Lost in the Dream, it is better live (e.g., on Live Drugs or Lowlands 2018).

I keep coming back to this. It’s like balm for the soul. Stellar performance from all, but Dave Hartley’s bass lines and supporting vocals really shine thru in this performance. Vibes for days……..
Wow! It sounds like them played all this songs live for years, no mistake, so close to perfection. What a musicians. Also a very big applause for the recording engineers and the mixers, clean and impressive sounds. Cant wait to hear them live. Great music on a very cheesy musical mainstream era.

And what a treat on a tuesday evening (we're tucked up right beneath the North Pole, takes time for the Internet to percolate out here) here in Norway!
Man, this is so good and it makes me so happy. I have been a fan of The War on Drugs for a really long time, over a decade. Their album "Wagonwheel Blues" was recommended by Pitchfork years ago and that's when I got hooked. But the progression from album to album, the music becoming more dynamic... weaving in more piano, etc... it just has a very nostalgic feel to it. It pulls at your heart strings and it's clear there is a deeper understanding. It's beautiful to watch the progression, and Adam is a good modest person who deserves us as fans.

We're all just walkin' through this darkness on our own. Perfect understated lyric for these times.
I have a spattering of all time favourite songs that I’ve added over a period of many years. Since finding TWOD I’ve added a handful of theirs that really touch my soul. Two of the most prominent are the live versions of An Ocean Inbetween The Waves and Under The Pressure. The latest album is great too and right now Harmonia’s Dream is playing on repeat.
A man of culture I see haha!
Very cool! Thank you for your input on your favorites. I recently discovered them, and will check out the tunes you mentioned. 😊
The ones on the live album?
Feel ya
Same here. I would add Eyes to the Wind to the list of favorites. Like the other songs from Lost in the Dream, it is better live (e.g., on Live Drugs or Lowlands 2018).
Live drugs continue to sound as dreamy and sharp as recorded drugs, with iterative flairs -- fantastico boys!
I cant remember when i cried listening to a band but those guys left me in that state… thank you ❤
I'm the same. Especially occasional rain 😊
The sound quality of this recording and all the instruments is incredible and the performance is impeccable.
You guys are my lifetime discovery, thank you for making such brilliant music.
Ce groupe a un son qui prend aux tripes, j'ai connu beaucoup de bons groupes depuis 64 mais eux je les ai découvert récemment et je ne m'en lasse pas , aucun déchet dans tous leurs titres 💓💓💓
Most underrated band in the world, real talent, great new album. See you in London in April 2022.
when a band sounds just as good..even better than the album; you know you've struck gold
I have a massive "Music Crush" on Adam G and the War on Drugs!!! One of my fave bands.
I'm very late to the WOD game, but I'm glad i'm part of this community now... Their music feels like a ''safe haven'' kind of vibe, where one can just be in touch with our hearts without judgment ;)
Bruce Hornsby vibes too
I'd never heard of these guys till today. What an amazing band! The lead singer sounds like a mixture of Tom Petty anf Bob Dylan.
Me too! I just chanced on them and found they're just what I needed.
Lol I just found this, shared it with my wife and said this has a tom petty and dylan vibe
I hear Springsteen when I listen to wod.
Love the band, but the lead singer sounds more like Bryan Adams to me
I hear Springsteen and Phil Collins (especially the album version of "I Don't Wanna Wait")
I keep coming back to this. It’s like balm for the soul. Stellar performance from all, but Dave Hartley’s bass lines and supporting vocals really shine thru in this performance. Vibes for days……..
Услышал эту группу ....
Как новую планету открыл .
ВЕЛИКОЛЕПНО !
БРАВО !
Wow! It sounds like them played all this songs live for years, no mistake, so close to perfection. What a musicians. Also a very big applause for the recording engineers and the mixers, clean and impressive sounds. Cant wait to hear them live. Great music on a very cheesy musical mainstream era.
Their lyrics are so ethereal and yet they have that powerful wall of sound. I love it.
First the album, already live versions to accomodate them. Just so lovely. You're the gift that keeps on giving.
I just discovered this band through this video, only halfway through the video and now im downloading their 3 most recent albums, all I have to say is WOW these guys are good.
This is incredible. I don't live here anymore takes a whole new meaning with this version, which I really prefer. Old Skin is out of this world.
That Tiny Desk gag killed me. Love these guys!
This is absolutely breathtaking..
Best band on the planet.
Adam be groovin'...it's almost as if he's reliving the story behind each song that he performs
What a treat on a Monday morning. Thanks NPR!
This is one of my favorite performances on the planet. This is magic of the highest order. Thank you NPR!
