The recent rise of hardcore-influenced heavy music makes me extremely excited. I love hc not just for its inclusive values and justified anger but also because the live shows are fun as hell. Knocked Loose deserves everything good comming their way for all the work they did to make this happen.

One other thing I will say is, I am definitely here for the old school revival of Metalcore. I love bands like Botch, Converge, Glassjaw, Underoath, all those metalcore and post-hardcore bands that preceded the '00s "Commercialized Melodeath Meets Hardcore Breakdowns" bands.

The fact that they are young is towards the top of the list on the reason why they are popular. It helps them connect with an energetic audience. If it was a bunch of 45 year old dudes making this music it would be...weird.

As someone that grew up being ostracized for liking heavy music, I think it’s nothing but net positive that heavy music is popular. It used to be the case that the music had to go softer to gain attraction but the fact that it’s still aggressive and gaining traction is awesome. 👏 it brings a smile to my face knowing that young kids can listen to this crazy shit without it being a big deal, haha

@@pai.chiart it's a bit all over the place. Mainly I'm interested in the methods of and reasons why things happen in the metal community (like this episode). But we've explored other areas. Like I had on David Burke as a guest. He's a PhD candidate in metal studies (I had no idea that's a thing and I'm jealous) and his thesis is that all metal is an exercise in existentialism. After speaking to him I tend to agree.
But I also would say there's a bit of absurdism in it as well. It could be argued that absurdism is just a sub-genre of existentialism and I'm ok with that.

I think, continuing on from your last point... It's not just Bryans voice. It's the way he presents himself, along with the other members of the band.
These guys are just normal guys. They don't have some nu-metal aesthetic. They don't were emo eyeliner and suits. They're not big ol' metal dudes wearing battle jackets. They are normal dudes, doing normal things in their off time... Like gaming, and NOT drinking.

Corey Taylor being vocal about enjoying this band "that he listens during his workout sessions" sure helped a lot.
The first time I heard about knocked loose was through him.
I didn't stopped to listen to this band properly but what I get from them in terms of style/genre is that they are recicling the old beatdown hardcore subgenre, I used to listen to some bands from the Brazilian scene in the early 2000 but they failed basically because they infused a lot of hate speech in their lyrics and they were aiming the "nyhc gangster" crowd that was pretty big here but as years go buy they ended up becoming daddy and applied to jobs and the gangster stuff was left behind.
Right out of my mind I would fail to name bands of this style (and I don't mean the fascist ones) but I can try to reasearch and bring some names and post it here.

Thanks for that good comments and analysis. I grew up with Grunge and New Metal, but also with Metallic Hardcore. The production at that time was terrible but i loved bands like Chokehold, Snapcase, Refused, Acme, Converge, Unbroken, Groundwork, Canon, Strain, Undertow (Seattle), Botch, Deadguy, Kiss It Goodbye, Threadbare, Morning Again, Culture and so on. This old vibe of pissed like hell is now back and Knocked Loose is the best example for it. Couldn`t stand the band at the beginning cos of Bryan`s voice, but i enjoy them now even more. Live they are killing it. Other good Metallic Harcore Bands to mention are Mindforce, Jesus Piece, Boundaries, Contention, Thrown, Magnitude, Incendiary, Life`s Question, Drain, Dying Wish, Sunami, Malevolance and many more. Hardcore influenced Metal seems to be en vogue now and i am happy with it.

No. 1 might be the biggest reason. Historically, the most successful bands (at least within their genre) have been the ones whose vocalist didn't sound too much like anybody else. The vocals themselves may be an acquired taste, but they go a long way toward giving the band their own personality.

Point about religion and metal. Remember that half of the metalcore bands in the world are Christian. Or have religious ideals. Killswitch has tons of Christian lyrics about redemption and atonement. And their members created a Christian sideproject called Times of Grace. Shadows Fall has Rastaffarianism like I and I. Then we have Living Sacrifice, Demon Hunter, Fit For A King, Silent Planet, War of Ages, August Burns Red and As I Lay Dying. How about Zao and Norma Jean... and Deathcore like Impending Doom. then we have hardcore bands like NIV aka No Innocent Victim, Cultist, Strongarm, Overcome, xDisciplexA.D., and the first Embodyment album among hundreds of others.
If people are seeking more than what the world can offer, does that mean more Christian metal and or more of a return to what the early 2000s were. I always thought the New Wave of American Heavy Metal lyrically was about empowerment from within or had a very spirtual vibe to it. I was in high school during the early 2000s so all that metal from that era is what i grew up on.

re the point about Christian hypocrisy, i agree.
    sort of.
it's not hypocrisy to fail to live up to an impossible standard; the Bible explains that we all fall short of Christ's example - as he is the only sinless person to walk the earth - but we have to try. to say we do and sneakily, secretly, don't is the hypocrisy and many are guilty of that, to be sure.
the Bible's philosophy is simple because it's true. man-made philosophy ties itself in knots trying to reason outside of that truth, or bring God's standards down to human levels. i mean, look at the arguments around objective truth!
