@@gunnstudio What is the theme? Fantano is saying it's all about religion but it's not necessarily. There is no one theme. The theme is the music. If they snuck the Upon Loss singles on here, it's a fuckin 10. It's one of the best metalcore records of all time. That's not to say they should have done it, but it is to say they were that good and their fans would have been down with it. Edit: I will say the only thematic miss would be "Knocked Loose, motherfucker," which just lyrically would have taken Bryan's severe tone down half a step, but still would have been rad as shit even out of context. They could've licked the stamp and sent it.
The way I can tell an album is really fucking good is when I'm immediately excited to hear what they do on their next album. I feel like there's still so much more they can do with their sound beyond keeping it heavy and I badly want to see where they take it from here.
Just of the strength of this review I gave them a listen. I remember bands like the Chariot which were massively overlooked doing shit like this. Nice to hear it again.
I’m intrigued and admit I haven’t checked them out before. Now that I’ve learned they’re from Louisville, I’m eager to listen for any possible post-hardcore Louisville influences. Sick.
I loved this album! It's been a minute since I laughed from how heavy an album could be but by the 3rd of 4th song, I was broken, I started laughing from the shear heaviness of it all For me, the middle of the album is the best. Don't Reach For Me, then Moss Covers All then Take Me Home is PEAK. Especially how Moss flows into Take Me Home with Isaac ending with that awesome THE WIND AND RAIN WILL FORCE DECAY before the creepy, eerie melody starts Take Me Home. And then the album finishes with that awesome, devastating break down outro with the sad, Thall-ish melody behind the chugs. I really appreciate how many of the songs flow together. Nothing feels disjointed. Also another stand out aspect of the album is the absolutely menacing bass presence. It's sinister company is like that amazing jump scare from Insidious. THAT scene. IFKYK. It just sits so nice in the mix. The guitar tones are amazing, that beer keg snare *chef's kiss* and Brian's blood curdling, pissed off screams really cements this album as oppressively angry and filled with contempt. It's an awesome album. Expertly done
i wouldn’t call it groundbreaking, but this is the best mainstream metalcore in a hot second. if this gets people off of boring ass radio metalcore, i’m all for it.
@@XenotypalTV both are superior genres of metal, my personal favorite two at least. although actual classic real metalcore (disembodied, converge, botch etc.) is awesome too.
Completely agree, also agree with what you said about Kurt. Usually anything that's stood out has usually had Kurt's hands on it....plus converge is just awesome. But something about the KL record just stands out. I think this is my fav album by them, esp the reggaeton breakdown in suffocation with poppy
Decent to Strong 9 is a fantastic score for this record and I agree with it. Arguably a 10 in my eyes, because every time I listen I catch something new that I really like from each track. It's a shorter album that doesn't overstay its welcome and delivers on relentlessness, heaviness, unique and interesting transitional moments with the instrumentation, absolutely TOP NOTCH vocal performances from everyone and especially Bryan, and a thematic approach that feels fleshed out and effective for the messages its trying to convey, despite the runtime being so brief. Easily a contender for AOTY, imo.
First time on your channel and holy crap man, you totally nailed everything about this album. Your analysis is spot on! And what’s up from New England, old school metal head here!! 🤘🏻
I think them being the heavy band for Coachella and Bonnaroo with great audience feedback is the best thing for them. They’re getting that recognition and those people are going to their friends talking bout “look how heavy this band is” and knocked loose is going to be expected to go harder with each release
Fantano has such a great way with describing some of my favorite albums everytime. I may not always agree with his ratings on others that I've listened to, but I will always appreciate his input on things. Everyone will have similar yet different taste in music! ☺
I still think Daughters - You Won’t Get What You Want has a more horrific, oppressive darkness to it to the point where it feel like it exudes evil. Don’t get me wrong tho, this album goes so fucking hard. It is such a perfect metalcore album.
This album is fantastic and I hope it convinces some metalcore haters to give the genre a chance. A lot of people seem to think all metalcore is the generic crabcore stuff but the genre is much more varied than that. I can't wait to see the impact this album leaves on metalcore as a whole.
Revisiting this review and hearing Sit & Mourn's outro being described as "a dismal march into oblivion" really just reinforces the primal propulsion of the headbang that comes from that outro.
This record might grow on me overtime, but I really did like it on first listen! I wonder how Anthony would feel about reviewing the new Antichrist Siege Machine album, which is also mind blowingly fast and heavy as well. That band has been proven to be kind of a gateway into the underground micro genre of war metal (or bestial black metal) for a lot of listeners that wouldn’t otherwise touch the sub genre. Another up-and-coming band in war metal is Primitive Warfare, and they are insane as well!
Genuinely can't even think about the lyrics for Don't Reach for Me without tearing up. Guarantee it's just childhood stuff that I haven't processed but deeeeaarr gooooooodddd dude, that track hurts. So many good lyrical moments on this entire record.
I love heavy music but metalcore and deathcore were never my thing, but this album is different. The breakdowns and riffs in general aren't predictable like seemingly every other "core" band, and sonically I haven't heard anything like it in the metal/hardcore realm before. Super impressed. I also disagree with Fantano on a lot of heavy music but I fully agree with everything he said here.
Brian's higher vocal registers is refreshing, reminds me of snapcase. The decision to have the backing vocals live in the lower areas is a great move and satisfies listeners looking for both. I don't see this band "mellowing out" for at least 2-3 more albums.
Now I love classic KL. Laugh Tracks is the go to "I want to feel nothing but rage" album, and Counting Worms inspires the bloodiest of knuckles upon every listen. But this album: I listened to it on the way home from work one time and two things happened that I hadn't felt in years while listening to a record. 1) Skin crawls My hair stood on end specifically during the thunderous doom metal riffs of Don't Reach for Me and Blinding Faith. I was thrown against my seat by the sheer sonic intensity of the tracks in question. Instant headbang, introducing a level of groove and melody to metalcore at large yet unseen by any others. Every moment that a new quaking riff was unleashed upon the speakers sent shivers down my spine. 2) I was afraid Many have described metal at large as the "horror movie section" of music. To an extent, they're right. But usually when I kick on a metal album, I'm mostly engrossed by the power and intensity, but not feeling much in the way of terror. Made in Russia by Slaughter to Prevail is a spectacular metal album, but I had no reason to fear it when it was exactly what I came in for. But during the haunting melodies, echoing rimwork of the drums, and the piercing guitar overlays in the final moments of Take me Home had me staring at my radio in disbelief at what I was hearing. Couple that with the gentle record static of the country song interlude between that and Slaughterhouse 2, I knew I had reached the proverbial safe room in this Resident Evil game. This album is a sonic horror show the likes of which metal has refused to create in the past twenty years. But with the promise and raw, fiery energy of the single Deep in the Willow/Everything is Quiet Now promised leading up to the singles of this album, and then to the album itself; I am roundly convinced, with every fiber of my being, the following: 2024 is the best year to be a metal fan.
As someone who was turned onto Knocked Loose by Anthony when Blinding Faith dropped as a single and became cult-tier obsessed, I must say I am glad we both ended up loving the shit outta this thing! So crushing, so unsettling, dare I say catchy? But yet it doesn’t feel compromised for broad appeal. And as if having banger after banger wouldn’t have already been enough, they put some real attention into the way the album is assembled and how the themes run through the whole thing. Which is an attention to detail that I rarely see in metalcore these days. And no corny ballads either!!! Just a highly preferable epic post-rock cut.
He's given 9s to two metal albums this year, Civerous being the other, and that's kind of cool. I'm seeing Knocked Loose on June 1, Loathe and Show Me The Body are opening, I'm happy to see Loathe again and this show is going to be awesome.
Bryan Garris said on a podcast that he got the name for the album from an older woman sitting next to him on a flight, they were going through turbulence and he has a fear of flying so he was very clearly nervous, so she spent the rest of the flight talking to him to distract him from it and at one point when he mentioned that he didn’t do well on planes she told him “You won’t go before you’re supposed to”

This record is a future classic for the genre. The level of experimentation and chemistry KL has rn is unreal and I look forward to what they put out next if they continue performing at this level.
I don’t think you ever would but I’d absolutely love to see you review Death Is Little More by Boundaries, best metalcore album this year so far
That and KL my top 2 this year
@@Infametheus same my boi
Lol I just commented the same thing, I hope he does it
@@shane_wallace great minds think alike
This record shreds so hard
The good thing about Fantano never reviewing this kind of music is that when he gives it a good review I know I'm in for something special.
I wonder if the addition of the upon loss singles would have pushed this to a 10/10
They don’t really fit thematically though. They wrote those tracks specifically because they were performing at Coachella
I honestly don't know how they mixed it to sound SO. F***ING. HARD. It just RIPS. My brain's gonna be knocked loosed from all the head-banging.
Fantano reviewing Metalcore is niiiiiice
Would love to hear you on the new Greyhaven and ERRA stuff but seems unlikely at this point
He hates djenty stuff so definitely no Erra, but possible Greyhaven. Their new EP was amazing
Just of the strength of this review I gave them a listen. I remember bands like the Chariot which were massively overlooked doing shit like this. Nice to hear it again.
Earliest I’ve ever been on a review. Happy to see them get so much love on this new record!
this album is the musical equivalent to the first season of true detective. Masterful.
Personally I love A Different Shade of Blue even more but I do love to see the lads getting their deserved recognition!
I think ' a tear in the fabric of life' was peak knocked loose
Same ADSOB will always be my favorite KL album
The Gospel for me but a tear in a fabric is close too
Sit and Mourn is one of my favorite closing songs to any album I have ever heard, probably up there with Duckworth and Purple Rain for me.
Wow was not expecting a review at all let alone a high opinion! Good stuff
Nice profile pic. Love old norma jean
I’m intrigued and admit I haven’t checked them out before. Now that I’ve learned they’re from Louisville, I’m eager to listen for any possible post-hardcore Louisville influences. Sick.
Still hurts me Code Orange last album didn't hit
code orange walked so knocked loose could run
@@lou_gubrious touché
@@Will_1503 forever was code orange's last good release, laugh tracks was knocked loose's first big one
I loved this album! It's been a minute since I laughed from how heavy an album could be but by the 3rd of 4th song, I was broken, I started laughing from the shear heaviness of it all
For me, the middle of the album is the best.
Damn I was expecting a 10. Groundbreaking album for the metalcore scene, this was needed so bad.
i wouldn’t call it groundbreaking, but this is the best mainstream metalcore in a hot second. if this gets people off of boring ass radio metalcore, i’m all for it.
@@skinc4rver thoughts on death metal or black metal?
@@skinc4rver they do sound really oood. Could do without such high pitched vocals though
@@XenotypalTV both are superior genres of metal, my personal favorite two at least. although actual classic real metalcore (disembodied, converge, botch etc.) is awesome too.
How is this groundbreaking?
Completely agree, also agree with what you said about Kurt. Usually anything that's stood out has usually had Kurt's hands on it....plus converge is just awesome. But something about the KL record just stands out. I think this is my fav album by them, esp the reggaeton breakdown in suffocation with poppy
A Fantano review I agree with? Hell yeah!
This whole album was pure ignorance and genuinely one of the best albums I've ever heard. Nuff said.
Just left their show in Boston, fantastic performers as well as artists. The Boston crowd always loves these fellas
Also, do attend a gig from these guys. Jaw dropping heavy
First time on your channel and holy crap man, you totally nailed everything about this album. Your analysis is spot on! And what’s up from New England, old school metal head here!! 🤘🏻
Time to replace that Code Orange shirt with a Knocked Loose shirt since CO sucks now
I think them being the heavy band for Coachella and Bonnaroo with great audience feedback is the best thing for them.
Fair enough but what does YWGWYW have to do with this
The sound of the snare drum almost killed me when i decided to listen this record on the evening walk
I see Kung fu Kenny peaking behind Melons shoulder 👁 👁
growth is important, Anthony I’m proud of you. Going from hating on them in the Laugh Tracks era to giving a strong 9 just 2 albums later is huge 💪
Being from Kentucky this makes me so proud. This album and Band is Fuckin Amazing.
The best review you have ever done! Never before have you hit the nail this hard on the head!
This album is fantastic and I hope it convinces some metalcore haters to give the genre a chance. A lot of people seem to think all metalcore is the generic crabcore stuff but the genre is much more varied than that. I can't wait to see the impact this album leaves on metalcore as a whole.
KL live is a whole experience every should take part in. The energy from these guys as well as the mixing is just top notch.
Ok now do a spin kick
That ACSM album was pretty good. Glad other people liked it
Man ASM is so good.
Yeah this record had friends of mine that hate metalcore calling me and telling me to listen. This album rules.
Some real Oldham county shit!!!!

@@CallMeSquilliam hell yeah brings a tear to my eye
YEEEAAH! Kentucky slams!
Hopefully they don't new the ham
Im from Detroit. Wish I was from Kentucky now lo!
I'm convinced there's going to be a metal comeback in the coming years. It's getting pretty exciting again.
Would’ve given it a 10/10 if it was called “you would go on a timely manner”
Genuinely can't even think about the lyrics for Don't Reach for Me without tearing up. Guarantee it's just childhood stuff that I haven't processed but deeeeaarr gooooooodddd dude, that track hurts. So many good lyrical moments on this entire record.
That moombahton breakdown fukin rules
I love heavy music but metalcore and deathcore were never my thing, but this album is different. The breakdowns and riffs in general aren't predictable like seemingly every other "core" band, and sonically I haven't heard anything like it in the metal/hardcore realm before. Super impressed. I also disagree with Fantano on a lot of heavy music but I fully agree with everything he said here.
You should review Invent Animate, Before I Turn, and Oceans Ate Alaska
I love Invent Animate!
PLEASE INVENT
Invent Animate album is incredible
0/10 generic metalcore
Brian's higher vocal registers is refreshing, reminds me of snapcase. The decision to have the backing vocals live in the lower areas is a great move and satisfies listeners looking for both. I don't see this band "mellowing out" for at least 2-3 more albums.
What a great record!! Can’t wait to listen again, and again, and again……
Now I love classic KL. Laugh Tracks is the go to "I want to feel nothing but rage" album, and Counting Worms inspires the bloodiest of knuckles upon every listen.
But this album:
I listened to it on the way home from work one time and two things happened that I hadn't felt in years while listening to a record.
1) Skin crawls
My hair stood on end specifically during the thunderous doom metal riffs of Don't Reach for Me and Blinding Faith. I was thrown against my seat by the sheer sonic intensity of the tracks in question. Instant headbang, introducing a level of groove and melody to metalcore at large yet unseen by any others. Every moment that a new quaking riff was unleashed upon the speakers sent shivers down my spine.
2) I was afraid
Many have described metal at large as the "horror movie section" of music.
But with the promise and raw, fiery energy of the single Deep in the Willow/Everything is Quiet Now promised leading up to the singles of this album, and then to the album itself; I am roundly convinced, with every fiber of my being, the following:
2024 is the best year to be a metal fan.
Blindthony Faithano with the 9, sick
When the review is about the length of the album, you know it's good.
Knocked Loose is and will always be a hardcore band.
He's given 9s to two metal albums this year, Civerous being the other, and that's kind of cool. I'm seeing Knocked Loose on June 1, Loathe and Show Me The Body are opening, I'm happy to see Loathe again and this show is going to be awesome.
was one hell of a show when they came to AZ on the album release day. Don't forget about Speed though!
