I just wish MFI would make a full picatinny version of that rail, or at least add an extra slot. I'd like to run that mount with the PA SLx Gemini, but not enough slots🫤
Thanks! I’m using the MFI Ultra Low Mount for my PA MD-20 to cowitness. MFI also has a Universal Low mount. It looks higher than the Ultra Low mount and I think the Gemini cowitness mount is higher than a MD-20 or H1/H2 would sit, so not an absolute cowitness, probably not 1/3 even.
@RangeToyz yeah, they also make an ultra low that is all picatinny, which is what I'm thinking I'll end up trying. I'm looking at putting the Gemini all the way back and above the rear sight assembly with the included low cantilever. Not looking for absolute co-witness on that one because I don't want to block the ranging stadia-which is why I'm looking at the ultra low. I think ultra low plus low cantilever will make the entire reticle usable without being too high. I hope, anyway 🤞🏼
My only issue with it is that it covers pretty much the whole top of the receiver. I like how the version you have only takes up the back half. Not a huge deal, but I think it would look a little more clean than having a bunch of picatinny all the way out for nothing. Seems like an all picatinny version of your ultra low would be just the ticket, and I'm surprised they don't make one.
That's the sucky thing about the MP5/optics/mount game-you're libel to spend another $1k on mounts trying to get your co-witness right🤣 That's why I appreciate videos like this-the more data on the subject, the better!

Thanks for this - it really is the most informative video I’ve found on co-witnessing optics. I have a question - what is the v notch sight from? (HKG3? HK33?) any issues with using different drum? do you even use the long distance settings?
Thank you! So the Omega MP5 that has the V notch came like that when I bought it years ago. I think it’s specifically for 9mm because of how high and open the other holes are. I haven’t used the holes much for longer distances, but my MP5SD has four 9mm holes and no V notch and that’s where I’ve tried them at 100 yards. All subsonic from that gun of course. I haven’t been able to find any 9mm style ones for sale anywhere. I put G3 V notch drums on my 22LR MP5’s, but only use the V notch for an easier sight picture. Good questions, let me know if I answered enough and if I can help more :)
Thank you, that does help. I haven’t been able to find a mp5 specific v notch drum. I always like having back up irons so what I might do is get a G3 or HK33 sight for tracing/reference and attempt to dremel myself a v notch into the mp5 drum. Looking through the diopter to co-witness a red dot is just too busy for my eyes.
@@renaissanceman3307 Alternatively, drill out a couple of the diopter holes a bit bigger in a cheaper G3 rear drum. I've honestly been desperately looking for the same thing, an MP5 rear drum with 9mm sized diopter holes and a V-notch, with almost no success. I know that one of the Scandinavian countries issued MP5s equipped like that, and now I know Omega used a similar sight too. But sadly, that doesn't really help me locate one.

I’ll say it definitely should if the MFI Ultra low mount fits my V53 .223 and my Omega MP5.

Are any of those mounts easier on the finish of the receiver? I had a mount back in the day that ate the paint off my pristine HK91.
@@davidnunley5436 I’m not totally sure. Probably the HK Parts mount with only one removable leg and you have to rock it on would be the hardest on the finish. Depending on the clamping torque, maybe all of them are the same. I think it mostly depends on the finish of the gun. My Omega MP5 has a hard epoxy finish so it’s very tough.
I had to move mine back from centered over the ejection port. The shop mounted this and recommended the red do t there. However, at the range, I found I couldn't avoid hitting the red dot, when slapping the charging handle.
@@RedPillTruth2023 glad you got it back to the right spot yourself! The mounts have a cut out for the rear position where it is supposed to go. Did you go with the HK Parts mount or Shield?
Hey- fantastic video! Can you tell me, at 0:55 your diopter drum- did you mod it or buy it that way? Meaning it has a cut out in it, guessing so that the largest aperture/peep sight hole, there isn’t any part of the drum/view getting blocked? Love the idea, but dont know if I want to cut my drum, so curious to know if you did this yourself or someone manufactures them this way? Thanks!
Thanks! This Omega MP5 actually came with a V notch and all the different sight pictures are calibrated for 9mm. I replaced the drum sights that came with my GSG 5P and 522PK 22LR MP5s with the HK 7.62x51 versions that also have a V notch and only use it for them. They’re pretty cheap. I think it would be very difficult to try to cut and file a V notch yourself. A little one way or another and that’s where your bullet would go. Can’t put material back either. Even a machine shop probably wouldn’t know how deep to cut without a diagram and measurements. I’ve looked for 9mm ones that are for sale, but haven’t found any. Someone should start making them with the MP5 boom that’s happening right now.
Also with the holosun/trijicon mount do you ever end up hitting the sight or mount when using the charging handle? I heard that was a big issue with some of the claw mounts you would scrape your hand on the side of the Picatinny

Glad I found this vid was wondering if I wanted to go with the holosun or trijicon, holosun just so has many more options but the trijicon just looks so clean but for the price can’t be a holosun onky question is why didn’t you go with the 507? Do you not like the donut of death?
I love the 510C on multiple guns I have. I bought a 507 for my FN 509 Tactical with suppressor hight sights. The donut cowitness was quick to pick up, but a clutter with the irons when zeroing in on a target. I wound up just using the dot mode. I figured it would be the same for this, so I went with the 407 with a better price. I got a 407 for my Micro Draco, then swapped it with the FN 509 Tactical and it’s 507C, so all is good and the Micro Draco has the DOD option :)

On the MFI UL mount, is there enough rail space for an eotech xsps2?

@@boosted2809 I just got home and checked for you bud. Sorry to say it won’t fit. The MFI UL mount has a countersunk three slot picatinny section that is maxed out to fit Aimpoint T-1, T-2, H-1, H-2 footprint. (If the slots extend further, the rail would come in contact with the legs.) The EoTech XPS2-0 requires 7 picatinny slots straight across. MFI makes a Universal Low Mount that is longer with 12 slots and can be used, maybe even cut down and painted to make it look cleaner. It’s strong and long enough to mount a scope on a 308, but still works on a 9mm.

I thought the MFI had room for a magnifer at least a 3x micro? Different version? Also I think its similiar to Midwest industries version but the MFI sits longer but both have similiar length? It really sucks having to shoot 50 to 75 yards without any magnification.
Yeah, MFI has a couple hight MP5 mounts, this being the ultra low. I don’t think there’s any 3x micro dot that could still cowitness on it. This has only 3 slots of pic rail in the middle. It’s really made for direct footprint clones of the Aimpoint H1/H2. The claw for the pic rail needs to come directly out of the round tube of the dot sight, no bolt on adapter.
Which would be best for a Leupold Delta Point? I am assuming that RMR mount? Is there an adapter plate though?
You’re correct that this HK Parts mount has the standard RMR mount. Good new for you though, HK parts came out with a Universal version that takes adapter plates like you thought. It looks like you’ll take the HKP MP5 Universal Optic Mount for 119.95 plus HKP VP9/VP9L Optics Plate #4 Luepold Delta Point Pro Optics Plate 49.95 It definitely ads more cost to install your RMSc footprint if I researched it correctly, but that would be a nice cowitness, probably about the same hight as my Holosun.
I really like the Holosun AEMS. Seems perfect for PCC's. Usually stay away from open emitter red dots.
If that dot can be low enough to cowitness and still fit the mount, then that’s better. It’s easier to clean raindrops off of the lenses and it’s tougher. I went for a better price and one I already have.
@@RangeToyz My issue is fogging. I stopped using open emitters on my carry guns because of that. Why take the worst things about pistol dots and use em' on rifles when you don't need to?
And I haven't tried co-witness with the AEMS, I did replace the mount for a lower mount but the rail is the standard one you'd get on the AP5, so it's not co-witness. Not sure what the appeal of that is, either. Get a good red dot if you have zero faith in your optic to need backup irons. But that's just my opinion ofc.
@@EvilWiffles I like cowitness dots on pistols because it’s easier to find when pulling iron sights up. I have so many different ones, it’s easier to find the dot that way than the guns that don’t have irons.
On MP5’s, I like the cowitness because it keeps my cheek weld where it naturally is for how the gun was designed. Having a collection of 7 MP5 type sbr’d firearms, I like the the cheek weld all the same. I’ve got EOtech EXPS2-0’s on a PTR 51P and PTR K3P sbr, and they feel different for sure being more down towards my chin, but being 7.62x51, I thought heavier duty over cowitness was the way for them.

The Battle Steel MP5 mounts work really well for absolute co-witness. They are inexpensive too.

@@RangeToyz I don’t know. I got my first one in early 2022 or so. BTW, it’s available with multiple mount footprints; Aimpoint, MRO, Picatinny, etc. I like the Picatinny as it sets the optic a bit farther back than the dedicated Aimpoint to give more clearance to the charging handle, and is still low enough to provide absolute co-witness. I bought a second one to go with a second MP5 but still have not put it on yet as I really like the iron sights.

Great video. I've been looking into getting an optic and that hkp rmr mount for my mp5 22lr (tactical plinker). Good to see you get a co witness and rear sight doesnt look like its obstructed. Curious what your opinion is on what dot size works best for mp5 and if prefer a bigger or smaller sight window on optics for them. I'm looking at Swampfox and Holosun and just dont know what combo works best.
I really like the small profile of the Shield SMS2 and just got a glass 8 moa dot version, but haven’t installed it yet. I’ll have to get back to you later on the 4 moa verses 8 moa dots. They have auto brightness, so I think the size will be a little more crucial. The 2 moa dot in the Holosun can be turned up nice and bright so it’s easy to see. I’m definitely curious about the Swampfox and how the frames compare to the Holosun RMR. A V notch or castle notch (like on some MP5K’s) are both fantastic at giving you a clearer sight picture. My MP5SD has circle windows in all 4 drum rotations, and I use the large one for it with a SMS2. I still find it very quick to line up with targets and easy to use.
Yeah I like how notched drum looks with optic and that SMS setup looks really good. It would be nice if they supplied that height dimension for the back of sights so you know which sits lower when comparing. I know not everyone is trying to co-witness MP5s but for pistols youd know if rear sights are still functional. Swampfox just released new versions of their sights. The Justice II is 30mm and has 6MOA or multi reticle 2MOA.. The smaller Liberty II is 24mm with 3MOA and 3MOA multi.
@@paulm5297 right on. I think all micro dots can be adjusted to actually cowitness, but the Shield frame hight is really low at 22mm, is very thin and is barely still above the MP5 front sight tower. That Liberty is super close too. That might be my preferred pick for a RMR mounted dot. I’m also curious about the Shield verses RMR mount hights.

@@RangeToyz Im trying to see if I can make a Shield build work however the Shield MP5 mount you have may not fit right on a mp5 22 so Id have to get a Shield rmr adapter and use HKP mount and that combo costs a little more.
Whered u get the v notch rear sight?
I bought this Omega MP5 years ago and it came with it and also has 9 mm holes in the diopter. You can buy V notch 7.62x51 HK surplus ones, but the holes are much smaller for the farther distances that that round shoots. I haven’t seen any 9 mm ones for sale.

@@RangeToyz agreed, cowitness is the way to not have the sight hood right in the line of vision. I tried the MFI and battle steel mounts, ended up returning both of them because they weren't installing correctly. I thought the mounting boss on my receiver was canted a bit but checking it now again it seems fine. I decided to just stick with irons. If I try again it will be the HK parts Holosun mount for sure.
