This was one season back, and now with them berserkers dealing way too much damage, there are no front lines to flank anymore .It's so much harder to pull of now and depends on more luck than patience
Absolutely, we need to spread the word around so that there are more people playing. That way the developers have more options to play around with match making, improving the gameplay experience for everyone.
Awesome video! as a new player this was very enlightening, I wants to play longsword but finding it hard to find my place at the moment as the damage output seems so low so really hard to kill enemy units and players, I can top the leader board with poleaxe fairly consistently with its big sweeping moves to demolish enemy troops I always seem to do badly with longsword lol
Understandable, you might need to get a good infentry unit like expedition knights to begin understanding how LS works. LS is the only class that can heal and boost speed, and those properties make good units better. I can only recommend them once you understand the commander playstyle.
Sure thing, I'm not sure how your going to do it but you can add me on discord or Twitter if you want to talk about it.(AlanApogee#7477) P.S. I'm also fluent in Japanese
The hardest i´ve ever been flanked was on Allenburg Siege, the stairs down from B. I stood on the stairs with my stalwards facing B and that guy used his Ironcap Swordman to charge down the stairs at the right side, right on the edge, the unit kinda slid past my stalwards at the right edge of the stairs and then when he had completely covered the side of my stalwards he just hit V. I was completely baffled, most galaxybrain move i´ve ever witnessed in this game. Very impressive.
Damn, that's a nasty one. I had something similar with my fort pikes next to a wall, then a hassar charged onto the wall and skid on the side into a small corridor that my forts didn't point at. The result was half my fort dying in an instant, it hurts to see
@@AlanApogee Oh yeah. I lean toward Men at Arms, but the reason why Berserkers work so well is their small unit size. A squad of Paladins, or MaAs tend to get noticed maneuvering in position. Cavs, too. A unit of Berserkers is like 8, but they still go off like a queen in the corner.
Played spear first and liked it a lot. But now that I've been using the healing skill of the longsword, I can't get myself to turn back or properly switch to any weapon new because it completely changes your playstyle. But I'll be trying out the Glaive soon
I use half strength and half armor, generally aiming at 1000 armor first then dumping the rest to strength. This is because there are diminishing returns to armor above 1000 and a tank without offensive capabilities becomes just a damage sponge. Hope this helps
For Longsword it generally makes sense to go full toughness, since your healing ability and some runes scale from it and full toughness gives you the most tankiness. You will even survive a ballista headshot with 35k health. If you wanna deal damage, its better to play a more dps based class like musket or maul, as longsword you are just a supporter :D
You are correct, but if you look more closely you see another unit of paladins charging right behind it. If I was only fighting the unit I just charged I'm quite sure that I'll win due to the extra backstab damage. But two units and some heros, nope not winning that alone.
I use half strength and half armor, generally aiming at 1000 armor first then dumping the rest to strength. For armor attributes, my current priority is a full set of leadership 12+ pieces
I like that u use your troops thoughtfully, but I do think that its better to be just a tad more aggressive and faster when the allied team isnt totally terrible
I want to say that it's an aesthetic difference, but I can't be sure without testing it. Could very well be the case considering the silhouette difference.
I've been playing LS solely for 3 seasons so I would think that I got it all figured out. Thanks for the sub. I'm considering making a LS guide, but should I do that first or an explanation of the attribute/ pen armor system (which I found the appropriate statistical model for)?
@@AlanApogee LS in general is a weapon that every passing season became worse and forgotten, the devs did buff it a lil and someone actually remembered about it. So doing a guide now can help a lot of players. Though as a lvl 1900 longsword main I don't really recommend people to try this weapon since SS and Maul and other dumb weapons exist but still. LS needs more love and every video or posts can help balance the game and point out the weaknesses and strength can also help new players to try it out
@@buddytheblacklabrador9865 I wouldn't say that LS is becoming worse, but the other weapons fits better in the meta. Mauls are the natural counter to Stalwarts which trouble every other class while spears are the go-to for T5 cavalry control due to their charge ability on a cav. They just do their role very well and their role is currently needed most. There was a time when LS was OP, which was when it healed units for 2% per second, which they nerfed to the now 1%. And back then the meta was more infantry focused compared to the now cav, stalwart, and IPG spam. So maybe if we see a meta unit that the LS can utilize to increase its capabilities like the paladins, then LS would be good again. But yeah, LS could use some love. They buffed its damage this season, but what I say is buffing Knightly Vows to clear stun and bleed in addition to the speed. Then LS would be back in the meta.
@@AlanApogee I do agree with you here, but I truly felt like the longsword became weaker by itself and yes maybe it’s the other classes but in the same time they also shadow nerf a lot. LS is a balanced weapon in a sea of unbalanced weapon and the game can’t decide if it’s a tank or a support weapon
There are some things that I would like to state. This is my own opinion on longsword. Pls don’t use sally forth... It hurts. Knightly vows is fine but not incredible. With Valour is almost essential for longswords too. You’re not trying to beat up enemy heroes, you’re trying to support your team. The flanks are god tho
I understand where your coming from, in fact, almost every other LS player I know said the same thing as you in one way or another. But I'll still use sally forth because it compensates for my unit roster more than shield clash. Individual heroes are the greater threat to my units rather than enemy units. I would love to hear your argument as to why sally forth 'hurts'. In my view, stunning and taking out heros supports the team by making a unit on the field lose its commander. Instead of waiting to react to a unit push, I would rather take the action to pin down a hero and accomplish a kill. As for With valour, it's essential if you use shield clash because it compensates for your damage. But if you have Sally Forth you can use Knightly Vows to increase your units potency in combat, because sally forth is the second highest DPS skill in the game (Consider its absurd 35s cooldown). In essence, With Valour makes you into a unit killer while knightly vow puts that pressure onto your units. Unless you have tried my setup and can confirm that it's worse off, you should try it yourself for a few 10s of matches.
@@AlanApogee oops. I forgot to respond. It is an interesting set up but it achieves the same thing but it’s stiffer. With clash, you can knock down and slow heroes. With paladins, fortes, and javelins, the enemy hero is dead. Also, I figured out the best way to use sally forth is to do it, sprint attack, then use with valour. That’s my opinion on sally forth. Heal is a given for longsword and I guess knightly vows is a good skill as well. With valour also has only a 16 second cool down while knightly vows has a larger amount. You don’t need to use shield bash either IMO because almost nothing is going to get through your block and knock you on the ground. Poleaxes can but pa is a hard counter to ls. Also, if you want to kill heroes, switch to glaive. But I WILL definitely try out that loudout and maybe switch out knightly vows... IMO knightly vows isn’t like a team player ability. No one is prepared for the speed buff even though it’s nice. If it had a shorter cooldown, it would be so good tho
@@Alan-gt5lr Using Knightly vows has become a habit and I've found ways to play around with it for myself and only myself. With that said, with valor will be the better option in most cases, unless knightly vows get a lower cooldown or maybe poison/cc clearing/resistance. Also, it might just be my lack of experience with clash of shields but I find it much easier to take down a hero with sally forth. You get to have control over your units when you're ulting, unlike clash where you move really quickly, sally forth pins the hero on the ground for your units to kill. Just make sure you have Sally Forth III as it deals roughly 40% more DPS than Sally Forth I (+20% damage, +25% cooldown reduction
Can't deny you there. Flanking is to use your teammates as bait, but by doing so, you achieve more than just running head on with your team mates. In this game especially, there are units more kitted out for flanking maneuvers like charge units while others excel at holding a position or advancing into enemy lines. I prefer to flank, and use my team as bait because I have the units that can dish out high damage is short amounts of time and a hero ability that boosts movement speed by 25%. This just makes my type of play more profitable than being on the front lines, and win battles that might be losing ones.
