Yeap, it seems counterintuitive to avoid using skills except as buffs, but man, the difference was huge. The swap strike allowed me to destroy IRs and even RJs.
Great vid man. If you didn't already know, there's a neat little trick you can do with the charge on top of everything else. If they're a little too beat up but your teams still actively pushing, short charge them back into your allies for the damage buff, then immediately swap to spear. The charge gives every model the red buff they get for using Triple Strike or just attacking with swords, regardless of whether or not they hit anything, and swapping to spear while they're glowing heals a fairly significant chunk of their hp instantly. Add in LS heal, you can basically burst heal them and then immediately follow your team forward, and since they're back in spear, you're also set to get CC back up and swap to swords on the closest enemy hero. The versatility of applications they have is insane.
Yeah the charge counts as an attack and the buff just requires the unit to be attacking. So 8% heal every half minute, add on LS 10% every 20s, that's about 50% every minute. It's really good indeed

Thanks, I'm full armor with all armor runes too. Sally forth can stop cav but not as efficiently as clash of shields but it can stop heroes and stun lock them

I go in with the team, but the difference is where I spam my weapon swap to get as much damammmge and health recovery as possible. Am I doing the right thing or should I juste keep using swords and sometimes spear for movement / buff?
hey, are you sure that using their shield bash in sword mode (triple strike) cancels cover commander? because they still follow me around after using it.
Yes, you can check by switching back to spear. If you used triple strike you will see cc not toggled. Sword cc has better AI and quite a few other perks so I recommend staying in sword cc
Hey Alan, I use to think that the temporary quest to get doctrines like the 5 second cool down on shield maidens was limited to that season. However I can still do the shenji quest to get their extra doctrine but is way past the dynastic season now. When I unlocked the shield maidens I didn't do the temporary quest to get that doctrine (5 second guardian cool down). Do you think there's any way I can get it now? What would you recommend as an alternative doctrine
I don't recommend both the cd reduction, it's rare when they are necessary. The 100 def, the 400 block, and breakthrough are quite mandatory. The rest I have leadership and breakthrough right now
Have you tested the difference between the Spear CC over the Sword CC? I know you have mentioned that using it removes it when you switch back, but both their behavior and the description (I know how good their descriptions are) have been changed to stay in CC after using Triple Strike. Even though it isn't toggled when you switch back, does it still behave the same after the ability is used? It seems to act the same, but I haven't had time to properly test this out myself.
They act quite differently, with post triple strike cover commander being less aggressive and more weak to crowd control. You can try them both in expeditions to see the difference yourself
@@AlanApogee That's good to know. I always thought the problem with Triple Strike was that it only affected maidens close enough to enemies and forced them to move into that unit, which makes them super vulnerable even without the change in AI behavior.
Shield Maidens play similar to LS while VG are more medium weapon like timing wise. I'm just not really vibing with VG right now and using it is counter intuitive for LS who wants long lasting units to heal while their single/double use units.
Parasite is the wrong word to use as it does not give benefits to the host. I would call it a symbiotic relationship with other units as you give them buffs and assist them fighting basically like Venom.
I did eventually switch back to it, but it wasn't that good. Since SM rely on block for survival more than effective hp, I'd rather have 5cd cooldown on guardian so there's more 250 def uptime
weak worthless unit i followed your advice. yeah i saw some improvement better than how i used them in the past but iam still losing a t5 unit to t4 berserkers or claymore... i dont know about you friend but for me the play style of Short maiden isnt for me at all. i wish other best of luck but dont expect much of them.
They should beat berserkers in a 1v1 quite easily, might be enemy heroes crowd control adding up or VG's which have been dominating melee combat lately. But hey, if it's not working for you, just remember that SM are really good at expeditions and bandit raids so there's still that.
Haven't seen all the video yet but seriously wtf are you doing in the fight at the first minute? why don't you charge? don't you know that they get 20% dmg buff when you charge? also why you are not spamming Triple Strike during the fight? you haven't use it once when since the revamp it makes great dmg & the cd is very short & you can literally spam it during a fight, I have seen just the start of the video & it was really painful to watch.. So after watching all the video I can't say that this was a SM guide as much as it was how you play the game yourself & your way of playing SM is boring as fuck, so your advice is to always have them near units & use them as a buff bot, that's your advice right? no thx
I wouldn't say you're wrong, but I recommend trying it out yourself before judging. I was also under the impression that triple strike is the way when I started playing SM after the buffs... but you can't beat other T5 without losing at least a few units that way.
@@AlanApogee I agree with Alan. In all honesty I prefer the survivability of the guardian buff when it comes to brawling. If I have time to charge a unit like silhadars and reapers which excell at brawling I will, but in this berzerkers meta that is almost never possible
@@AlanApogee You can very well kill other T5 units by charging & spamming Triple Strike but not with that terrible doctrine setup you have there you have wasted 3 doctrine slot just to max their blocking capability & reduce the Guardian cd & you even skip the Spear Defense doctrine seriously? what do you think is a siege? Expedition III ? are you under the impression that you are gonna leave them on a spot on formation to keep blocking incoming dmg? is that your great plan of playing SM? well let me tell you that's a terrible plan my friend & your doctrine choices are terrible, no look if you wanna use them as buff bots & as a shield wall then I guess that's a good plan but something tells me that your kill count will always be low the way you play them.

It works well with nodachi so it could work with db too ;)
It works well with db. I play with db and the push back helps keep me alive. Just focus hero while maidens focus unit. You'll find your rythm.

Great video man! You can also use charge and cancel it before they move too far, to buff ally damage :) could be useful in some circumstances
Yep and switching mid charge gives them 8% heal automatically.

You should try both really, I don't switch enough due to my playstyle so I can't say for sure

You are basically trolling by not using Epic Spear Doctrine III (which give +100 to all defenses).
