    Lapping/polishing is not to fix a shitty bore barrel its to help maintain it. Great Vid Reflex Airsoft. I Lap my barrels as long as they are brass barrels. sometimes i will do steel and aluminum but only if they do not have a coating on it. for anybody doing this make sure you clean your barrels with dish soap. the detergent in the dish soap will get it all out! run a cleaning rod with some micro fiber on it with some dish soap and run it clean under warm water and it will guarantee to clean it out good.

      Excuse me! What will happen if we lapping the coated barrel... I mean the brass barrel with nikel coated.

    • @michaelmok3646
      @michaelmok3646 6 місяців тому

      @@crossvo93 if that happens then parts of the coating will come off and you will have weird section in the barrel where its smooth and not as smooth. The only thing to do is continue with polish lapping so you strip the cost off and you just polish the bare metal. If you do have a coated barrel I suggest you just clean it with dish soap with cloth and cleaning rod so the residue from the manufacturer is cleaned off or the gunk of usage in the field is cleaned out.

      Lapping to the point of significant bore enlargement can fix shitty bores. With the right type of lap the high points will wear down significantly faster.
      The more the bore is enlarged the closer to a perfect circle it becomes, provided the lap is not spring loaded & doesnt adjust size during movement.

    Some things about lapping: the lap must be softer than the work piece for the paste to embed in the lap. That's why it's working with your felt so there's no need to reason why it's hard. It wouldn't work if it was harder than the barrel.
    People didn't just form the theory that BBs ride the ceiling because it made sense. HS5 coated the inside of a barrel with scribing fluid and fired 100 shots, then milled the barrel in half to find the ceiling had it's fluid worn off where the floor did not.
    People were forming theories trying to explain that experiment, not just for the sake of theories. I think that video is still on HS5's channel: whatfor5
    I've run bore cameras in many used barrels and generally I see impact marks in random patterns inside all. So to me it appears that the BBs are bouncing around in there. Having a properly lapped barrel does cut down on how much that reduces accuracy.

      So which is it, does the bb ride the celinig or does it bounce around? (Assuming a proper setup of course)

    If you’re on a tight budget with a cheap replica like a cyma, I can see the value in doing this because I doubt the stock inner barrel is free of imperfections. Honestly though an aftermarket barrel is probably the more practical choice, I can’t imagine there is enough of a difference in accuracy to go through all this work at the ranges airsoft play happens.

    Your barrel clamp device looks good but if you want a more firm base of the vise but not the crappy clamping action but a golf shaft vise holder. It would work amazing for airsoft barrels. Just a thought.

    you might cringe so bear in mind I'm just a dummy who know a couple things about a few topics. airsoft replicas are not my wheel house. I do know cars but also paint and reconditioning. again no pro I only know what has worked for me. I would think that spraying silicone to clean a barrel would be a stupid thing. all lube draws dirt and grit. I tr to tell people that but they refuse to listen. alcohol to clean but maybe cringe. I use a series or polish and wax that really has worked for me. nothing life or industry altering but it seems to improve grouping and the consistency. I start with a polish then move to a polymer wax. have you seen this done. it seems that I would be doing a comparable process just using different products, no? thanks for any help. I do it until my clean cotton rags are clean in and coming out.
