    A rare instance of Mark Tremonti playing a guitar tuned in E standard.

    Mark is a perfect example of why just "feeling" music isn't enough to be a good musician. He understands the language of music so well and it shows in how creative he can be. Everyone should aspire to keep learning.

    • @Timliu92
      @Timliu92 5 років тому +4

      Agreed. Not a lead guitarist here, but I used to think the same way as well, and realise that such thinking only limits my possibilities as a musician. Feeling the music is absolutely important because that is what music is about, but there is nothing wrong in wanting to expand your possibilities in expression - that is what music theory is for when taught right IMO, not to bound you but rather free you creatively and remove you from generic territory.

      Zachary Cook FACTS! Mark Tremonti shreds. It really came through when Alter Bridge formed and the band got the chance to make some harder music as opposed to Creed's constant ballads.

    It's great to see such a technical player that still knows how to rock. Too many times we see these amazingly technical players that seem to have lost the ability to rock out. Don't get me wrong: straight technical players are amazing, but I love to feel the soul that a rocker puts into their music. Mark Tremonti, to me is the total package.

    I think Creed was awesome man. There’s a lot of “poppy radio” songs, but Mark has always had awesome chord shapes, chord progressions and voices, awesome heavy riffs, amazing clean intros and fingerpicking stuff.. I know Stapp is a douche, but if you take who Creed is and who it’s made of, and subtract it from the music, lyrics, etc. then I think a lot of people would like them just a little more.

What's funny to me though is the sheer amount of hate people gave him for being a self absorbed drunk, but like every single lead front man in the 70s/80s was exactly like him. Let's glorify GNR while ridiculing Stapp. Makes no sense.

    For Guitar Players- There is a mistake in the video. Mark plays the riff differently up to speed than when he plays it slow. When Mark plays the 1st riff up to speed instead of using a set a 5 notes and then a set of 7 notes he's actually using a set of 5 notes then a set of 6 notes. Also when he plays it up to speed he uses a different pattern (if you watch the video at slower speeds a few times you'll see I'm right). Mark teaches the sets of 7 as a hammer on the pinky finger and pull off to 2nd finger to start, however he plays it up to speed with a sets of 6 (after the 1st set of 5) with a hammer on the pinky finger and a pull off to the 1st finger. Hope this helps anyone trying to learn the riff. PS- I love the riff and I'm a big fan of Tremonti- just wanted guitar players to know if they are trying to learn it. Mark plays the riff so fast he probably didn't realize the mistake.
