Mark is a perfect example of why just "feeling" music isn't enough to be a good musician. He understands the language of music so well and it shows in how creative he can be. Everyone should aspire to keep learning.
Agreed. Not a lead guitarist here, but I used to think the same way as well, and realise that such thinking only limits my possibilities as a musician. Feeling the music is absolutely important because that is what music is about, but there is nothing wrong in wanting to expand your possibilities in expression - that is what music theory is for when taught right IMO, not to bound you but rather free you creatively and remove you from generic territory.
Th most criminally underrated guitarist of our time. Nobody gives him credit because of Creed, what they don't know is that Mark has ALWAYS been a shredder.
Zachary Cook FACTS! Mark Tremonti shreds. It really came through when Alter Bridge formed and the band got the chance to make some harder music as opposed to Creed's constant ballads.
Somekind of Dude what's your name ill look you up. Cause as far as these comments go, youre just some person who isn't even showing their real name judging a professional guitarist who has toured the world and has millions of fans. Lmao.
I feel like if he wasn’t a famous musician, he would’ve been a music teacher! U can see how well he can teach it and how his passion comes through! Please make more of these!!
Talyn Ziemer Myles Keneddy actually was a teacher. And its cool seeing a self taught guy teaching technique. I’m a self taught drummer. But I wouldn’t ever want to teach anyone… XD
It's great to see such a technical player that still knows how to rock. Too many times we see these amazingly technical players that seem to have lost the ability to rock out. Don't get me wrong: straight technical players are amazing, but I love to feel the soul that a rocker puts into their music. Mark Tremonti, to me is the total package.
Personally I find legato easy and picking in between strings hard. Syncing both hands I'm bad at when it comes to relatively fast alternate picking between two or more strings that you switch to quickly
Finally! Thanks Mark for breaking a huge barrier for me on legato. The 5-7 shift is the link that has had me baffled for years. I have never heard anyone explain it this way. THANK YOU
I think Creed was awesome man. There’s a lot of “poppy radio” songs, but Mark has always had awesome chord shapes, chord progressions and voices, awesome heavy riffs, amazing clean intros and fingerpicking stuff.. I know Stapp is a douche, but if you take who Creed is and who it’s made of, and subtract it from the music, lyrics, etc. then I think a lot of people would like them just a little more.
@@noahs.627 He used to be a completely self absorbed drunk, while professing to be religious. What's funny to me though is the sheer amount of hate people gave him for being a self absorbed drunk, but like every single lead front man in the 70s/80s was exactly like him. Let's glorify GNR while ridiculing Stapp. Makes no sense.
His playing has come a long way since the Creed days. He was always a great riff guy, but as the years have gone on his leads and solos have really improved.
I picked up a PRS Tremonti SE. made in Korea. three hundred gets you a nice one pre-loved. Def my favorite guitar. I had a PRS copy before and that wasn't bad; this is wonderful.
I pick Mark as my favourite guitar player of all time, to be my answer to win a PRS from Robert Baker's Sweetwater's Saturday give away - wish me luck will ya. The draw is later today. . . that sure would be "Sweet" for sure.
For Guitar Players- There is a mistake in the video. Mark plays the riff differently up to speed than when he plays it slow. When Mark plays the 1st riff up to speed instead of using a set a 5 notes and then a set of 7 notes he's actually using a set of 5 notes then a set of 6 notes. Also when he plays it up to speed he uses a different pattern (if you watch the video at slower speeds a few times you'll see I'm right). Mark teaches the sets of 7 as a hammer on the pinky finger and pull off to 2nd finger to start, however he plays it up to speed with a sets of 6 (after the 1st set of 5) with a hammer on the pinky finger and a pull off to the 1st finger. Hope this helps anyone trying to learn the riff. PS- I love the riff and I'm a big fan of Tremonti- just wanted guitar players to know if they are trying to learn it. Mark plays the riff so fast he probably didn't realize the mistake.
LoL way to go dude, you caught him!!!! Out of the 1578 notes he just played 1 wrong, how dare he leave that in this video!!!😡 WTF really dude. I've heard of trolls on UA-cam, WE FOUND HIM OVER HERE. HERE HE IS!!!! 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Having hated Creed, I was ready to listen and respond with "Meh, he's no shredder." I grew up learning guitar in the '80s, and found most of the new stuff in the 90s to be boring and bland from a guitar standpoint. However, I was pleasantly surprised with this video, and have a new found respect for him. He's no Yngwie or Vai, but than neither am I! :)
He's only picking one note (the 1st note) in both riffs. He's not picking the the 1st note of each shape, but just the 1st note in the riff period. If you watch it slow you can see this. Hope this helps!
Teutone dumb fuck sheep, you think like everyone else. Nothing original about you, just a fabricated copy. Let me guess you hate good and worship satan... shut your sheep mouth it's nothing new. You're like a billion other drones.
If one could ever get too good at guitar... Marks done it. Insane. BUT... His early stuff MOP/Human Clay is where it's at. The shit he wrote on those albums was inspired. He is of course great in AB/SOLO but nowhere near the same level of back then. Inside us all off of human clay... I mean come on... Touched by an angel or what? LOL
Shout out to Mark Tremonti please hear me yo' peace . if you don mind, can you do an "open your eyes version like in 2019" ? we would love to see it for real in next year. peace ya'all #forEverFan
Mark isn't using any of his gears. Even the amp manufacturer label is taped off. The guitar he is playing is a 594 not the Tremonti. Still, Mark is always great as usual. He is an inspiration to me.
A rare instance of Mark Tremonti playing a guitar tuned in E standard.
Mark is a perfect example of why just "feeling" music isn't enough to be a good musician. He understands the language of music so well and it shows in how creative he can be. Everyone should aspire to keep learning.

Extremely underrated guitarist, his solo work and Alter Bridge has made me a life long listener to anything he puts out.
Underrated how is he Underrated?
He's always voted top guitarist!
WHAT!? He got number one for guitarist of the decade bro.
Dude we have the same exact guitar ! But mine sounds slower wtf
You got ripped off......I know cause I think I bought mine at the same store.
What's the name of the color?
Oldysrv
To shred like Tremonti, you must be tremonti.
No dude I think you have to grow fingers first to be able to play it at speed! Won't work with your stubby knuckles 🤣
One of the greatest guitar players/song writers to ever live
kevin bernstein Damn right
Totally agree🤘
Nah
Kevin B
Facts man
I've been saying that for years. He is my favorite guitarist
How to shred like Mark Temonti.
Cut off your crappy hands and replace with Marks.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
yea he got skinny freaky long fingers
😂😂😂
Th most criminally underrated guitarist of our time. Nobody gives him credit because of Creed, what they don't know is that Mark has ALWAYS been a shredder.
Zachary Cook FACTS! Mark Tremonti shreds. It really came through when Alter Bridge formed and the band got the chance to make some harder music as opposed to Creed's constant ballads.
Actually tremonti's picking is sloppy, his speed is decent and legato great but the picking is shit 😑
Somekind of Dude and who are you to even be the judge of that? 😂
Michael Homer Someone who plays guitar and has functional ears.
Somekind of Dude what's your name ill look you up. Cause as far as these comments go, youre just some person who isn't even showing their real name judging a professional guitarist who has toured the world and has millions of fans. Lmao.
I really like new Marshall logo
I feel like if he wasn’t a famous musician, he would’ve been a music teacher! U can see how well he can teach it and how his passion comes through! Please make more of these!!

Fuck my old boots.....
He has DVDs called the sound and story where he teaches the songs off the AB records.
Fuck my older boots....
I saw in an interview, before Creed took off he was a cook at Chili's lol
It's great to see such a technical player that still knows how to rock. Too many times we see these amazingly technical players that seem to have lost the ability to rock out. Mark is seriously one of the most underrated greatest guitarists of all time.
I can play some of Tremontis solos but always hated the legato run parts.
Dudes so good and so humble.
Rob Jarrett same! Top guy
Same. My legato has improved a little bit, but still decent
Personally I find legato easy and picking in between strings hard. Syncing both hands I'm bad at when it comes to relatively fast alternate picking between two or more strings that you switch to quickly
Soundgarden97 I'm the opposite. I can pick and string skip no problem. Lol
Give me all the legato. That's always been natural for me. Take the alternate picking and string skipping and my hands start to break apart.
Finally! Thanks Mark for breaking a huge barrier for me on legato. The 5-7 shift is the link that has had me baffled for years. I have never heard anyone explain it this way. THANK YOU
A marshall MG50, nice
Ahahahaaaaa.
a mark tremonti, nice
Wazzzzzapppp rudy
By way of solid states, NOTHING touches the KATANA, it’s in a league of it’s own, but the MG50 isn’t horrible lol
Stop commenting on every video I watch bro

Hold on, let me try that on the ukulele.
Love it when he says ‘we’ll do this slow’ and it’s still fast 😂🤣😂 Mark rocks 🤘🏻
*The TREMONSTER!* :)
Love seeing people do what they passionate about with ease.. hardworking+ talent = greatness 💯
He is genuinely a good teacher
His playing has come a long way since the Creed days. He was always a great riff guy, but as the years have gone on his leads and solos have really improved.

Mark is great in all aspects and especially as a writer. Alter bridge and tremonti are life changing for me. Musically and lyrically.
Mark "Legato" Tremonti
a cool name for entering next season's WWE
I'm doing Mark's practice for sometime. Really helps, really! Also please try to cover his solos, helps with technique for sure!
gotta love this guy. it's so simple to him ^^
That prs is beautiful
He designed it. It's his signature guitar.
I pick Mark as my favourite guitar player of all time, to be my answer to win a PRS from Robert Baker's Sweetwater's Saturday give away - wish me luck will ya. The draw is later today. . . that sure would be "Sweet" for sure.
Love Mark, he's such an underrated guitar player. 🤟🏻🎸
me like that prs
That blue is killer...
This is extremely helpful, and that prs is just stunning

An absolute powerhouse of a musician and the reason i probably might switch to prs guitars
Baby Metal poster in the wall :) cool stuff
Tremonti is a living legend already, btw.
Lol. Fuck Babymetal. They're for noobs.
Thanks for sharing Mr. Tremonti!
He plays part of that lick in the blackbird solo just on different frets
thats correct, E Mixolydian on the 3rd fret on the high e
"Yeah well I go easy now with this pattern of seventh , slow version"
That moment when you realise you don't know a shit about guitar
Where is the 'laugh' button 😂
one of the best rock guitarist from 2000s
yes mark you legato
Watching this makes me want to do one of two things:
1) Practice
2) Quit
Amazing guitar player, that smile in the end lol got me laughing
Having hated Creed, I was ready to listen and respond with "Meh, he's no shredder." Alter bridge and tremonti, quite the shred 👌🏻
......... you must not listen to Alter Bridge or Tremonti. Shred central. Guitar god.
no hes not vai.. hes tremonti in my opinion hes a metal god
That one guy you're fucking nuts
wut?
Definitely not an Marshall and a Roland amp
TREMONSTER! 🤘
What would it take for Mr. Tremonti and Andy James to collaborate....I'd sell my soul!!!!!
Have you watched Andy's Learn to Play Alter Bridge dvd? He's a fan of Tremonti and Andy is so cool too.
reminds me of Dimebag especially those percussive ideas at end of the runs
well, time to study these guitar techniques to learn but thanks.
Got to collect all the guitars exactly the same as all guitarists signature guitars.
Omg i have loved mark since i was in my 20s.
So underrated. Always has been.
I had no idea this guy was capable of this.
You are really missing out man, check out his stuff with Alter Bridge and his band Tremonti
Best. In. The. World.
When I do clinics, I tend to...hope for the results to come back negative. 😂😂😂
Hi Good lesson..what a great looking fingerboard on that guitar..I for one would love to play it..Thanks...Dave
so does he pick every single note, or just each string and hammer-on or what?
Nafincs Hammer on, and pull offs.
all legato
Pretty much what Legato is in a nut shell
It's legato, you only pick the first note of each shape, the rest is hammer on pull offs.
He's only picking one note (the 1st note) in both riffs. He's not picking the the 1st note of each shape, but just the 1st note in the riff period. If you watch it slow you can see this.
Hope this helps!
It's amazing what you can achieve when you get rid of Scott Stapp.
Teutone Truth be told Scott helped him to be famous
Creed made him a shitload of money tbh but unlike Scott Mark is a smart guy and didn't blow it all for fucking drugs.
Teutone dumb fuck sheep, you think like everyone else. Nothing original about you, just a fabricated copy. Let me guess you hate good and worship satan... shut your sheep mouth it's nothing new. You're like a billion other drones.
Jaded Given that billions of people are also assholes you, too, are like a billion other "drones".
Jaded Yah. You sound like a really great guy.
His stile of solo so good
He literally might as well be trying to teach me how to fly
Best comment 😂😂😂
Everyone knows it's the Marshall he is playing thru
For the first time, he is on E standard!!!
LOL
does he have individual bicep on his fingers?
How do you keep the solo "fresh" from song to song? solos are going to start sounding the same.
Shout out to Mark Tremonti please hear me yo' peace . if you don mind, can you do an "open your eyes version like in 2019" ? we would love to see it for real in next year. peace ya'all #forEverFan
love how they "censored" the Marshall logo.
With Ashley Leary exclusive fretboard
Whats the hair style of Mark?
Faux-hawk. Well, sorta.
Yes
loI I have no idea but I dig it...I recently cut mine like his
What was that first note again? 🤪
Mark isn't using any of his gears. Even the amp manufacturer label is taped off. The guitar he is playing is a 594 not the Tremonti. Still, Mark is always great as usual. He is an inspiration to me.
Great!
How to play like mark tremonti....practice
And hope you're born with fingers that are long enough!
GethStar I have weirdly long fingers but I haven’t played guitar for very long so I’m still pretty slow
helikon tex
And practice. And practice and practice and practice.
My head just fell off.
Tremonti🤘
What's the name of this blue PRS?? please, I need to know it 😍
Whale blue
Hey, I've got that amp too!
Me either. I'd like to know the set up he is using on that!
thats the overcome lick
Why is he not playing his signature PRS?
Damn
This is Tremonti version of Rock Discipline
~yeah but can he play freebird? . . . oh he can? oh ok then
Can someone please explain how he is playing? Hes not even picking the first note of the licks? What is he doing?
He's only picking the 1st note in the riffs- The rest of the notes are hammer on and pull off.
@@brethoffman3520 Thanks. Also, when you do a chug, is it only palm muting the top string?
Damn, don't say that "upto speed it sound like". I just play air guitar and I'm happy!
💯😅
🔥🔥
Every fucking time "gonna talk about legato"
Hahaha the duct tape haha
my own technique must be the exact opposite: something called 'Slowgato'.
Same here man 😂
Is he muting the string with his strum hand after he finishes with the string? I didn’t realize you can shred without even using your right hand lol
Nice....
Easy !
His voice reminds me of the narrator from the Spiderman games
Answer?
Be Mark Tremonti
How many of u know that A Dorian is Gmaj,Emin,B Phrygian,C Lydian,D Mixolydian,etc.? Talk 2 me
That's a standard Joe Satriani Legato style!
Just remember... this guy's livelihood is guitar.
Thumbs up if you had your eyes STICKED on the guitar #OHMYFRIKKINGOD
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Ok but, how, do I like, make my fingers do that? 😂
Mark tremonster
Shredmeister
Those are massive hands.
Why is the marshall logo taped over?
Because Mark is signed to endorse PRS guitars/amps... he can't be seen promoting a Marshall. He literally has his own amp at PRS.
