Basically users will see the stream thumbnail and her 'almost' starting the show. Viewers get interested and instantly click but once inside, they figure out it's was bait so they leave. Meanwhile other viewers will keep seeing the exact thumbnail thinking the show will almost start. This goes on for hours thus she milks viewers who only enter and got forced watched the first ad because the show 'almost' started and they didnt want to miss it. Them leaving afterwards doesn't matter because the goal was the first ad

Had the experience of getting her recommended to me once, got so into the idea of seeing what she actually looked like that I let it play in the background for almost the whole stream, she did eventually come on camera for about 10 minutes then she gave the classic "sorry guys, I'm not feeling great today, sorry for the short stream" and logged off.

This is how I believe she is doing it: 1. Pre-recorded footage. 2. Audio is her real-time, but she is just sitting and actually engaging with the chat. You can see that in Charlie's own video, she responds to at least 2 people in the chat. 3. The walk aways are part of the recorded footage. She can then switch to livecam from pre-recorded, and then the reveal shortly after or if she's got the energy she'll stand and chat for a bit and reveal whenevs she feels good about being done for the day. It's low impact, low effort. And all strange. But a curiosity. People can be amazing in ways I couldn't of imagined yesterday. That shits so dingo.

this reminds me of video culture on facebook. most of the videos you get reccomended on fb are videos that are 15-20 min long and 95% of the them is build-up/stalling/padding for time and the reveal is almost always a nothing sandwich or otherwise nothing spectatcular. I'm guessing this is due to the way facebook's video algorithm is with watch time, probably measuring it by how long someone stays on a video or to what point they get to in the video, regardless of whether they've watched the whole thing, and these videos get a lot of that because people either do wait for the big reveal or skip to the end to see it, which in turn promotes the video more. that combined with the fact the videos are super easy to make, so long as you have the patience, since they're really not doing anything super spectacular, just something simple or stupid really slowly. i wouldn't be surprised if twitch works similarly, except on twitch you have to wait for the reveal because u cant skip to the end. so people wait on it for some time before realizing she's just nearly endlessly stalling, but because they spent so long waiting before realizing that, it ends up getting pushed to more people because people are actually spending more time on the stream than others. combine that with the sunk cost fallacy ("well i've watched this long, might as well wait for the reveal") and you have a recipe for getting people to spend way more time than they should on nothing content which in turn results in it being pushed to more people who end up doing the same thing. tl;dr - another unpoken rule: don't waste your time on facebook videos, they're the same exact thing this streamer is doing.

I have a theory. I think her leaving the room is a way for her to cut/splice in new clips. The background, as long as she doesn't move the camera, would be the exact same and it would be very easy to hide a transition into another pre-recorded clip. What if she just has a bunch of like, 30 -45 minute clips (maybe longer) that end with her leaving the room, and begin with her entering it, and she can just let them play and then cut to a new clip and switch it around so it never looks like the same video since it's played in a different order each time. Just my own tinfoil hat theory.

this reminds me of video culture on facebook. most of the videos you get reccomended on fb are videos that are 15-20 min long and 95% of the them is build-up/stalling/padding for time and the reveal is almost always a nothing sandwich or otherwise nothing spectatcular. I'm guessing this is due to the way facebook's video algorithm is with watch time, probably measuring it by how long someone stays on a video or to what point they get to in the video, regardless of whether they've watched the whole thing, and these videos get a lot of that because people either do wait for the big reveal or skip to the end to see it, which in turn promotes the video more. that combined with the fact the videos are super easy to make, so long as you have the patience, since they're really not doing anything super spectacular, just something simple or stupid really slowly. i wouldn't be surprised if twitch works similarly, except on twitch you have to wait for the reveal because u cant skip to the end. so people wait on it for some time before realizing she's just nearly endlessly stalling, but because they spent so long waiting before realizing that, it ends up getting pushed to more people because people are actually spending more time on the stream than others. combine that with the sunk cost fallacy ("well i've watched this long, might as well wait for the reveal") and you have a recipe for getting people to spend way more time than they should on nothing content which in turn results in it being pushed to more people who end up doing the same thing.
tl;dr - another unpoken rule: don't waste your time on facebook videos, they're the same exact thing this streamer is doing.

This really is so goofy. It's genuinely a lot more difficult and a lot more work to stall an audience for 6 hours than it would be to just chill in a hot tub. This is an art.
Exactly. If you look at other hot tub streamers, they dont get as many viewers as her. Those other streamers are boring even because they sit there posing in a bikini, do nothing else, and some even act nasty towards chat when they comment on their skimpy appearance. Taylor is nice, funny and works the chat to a pitching point. Most of the entertainment comes from watching the chatters un-ironically get upset/timed-out/banned from telling her to show herself.

Edit: She did show up at the end of the one I watched, so she did deliver. She also responded to chat, so she was there. And the messages that got deleted weren't just rude ones, but ones that commented on it being a stalling joke stream, so the mods are definitely in on it.
Also my favorite part was the chat started talking about the tabled battery dying. So without saying anything, from off screen her hand comes in with a charger and plugs it in.

I have a theory. I think her leaving the room is a way for her to cut/splice in new clips. The background, as long as she doesn't move the camera, would be the exact same and it would be very easy to hide a transition into another pre-recorded clip. What if she just has a bunch of like, 30 -45 minute clips (maybe longer) that end with her leaving the room, and begin with her entering it, and she can just let them play and then cut to a new clip and switch it around so it never looks like the same video since it's played in a different order each time.
Just my own tinfoil hat theory.
