To be fair, the controls in Sunshine aren't very tight and you have to compensate a lot with flood because of it. All other Mario games, including 64, have way better controls. Always amazes me how well speedrunners move in Sunshine.

The problem is that he doesn't react to your inputs as snappy as he does in other games. The controls don't feel tight, more floaty. You can probably compensate for that by doing your inputs way in advance, but it's not fun gameplay.
As a kid, I used to use Mario's belly slide move to spread the goop around and try to make a bigger mess in Delfino Plaza. Definitely what Nintendo intended :)
I remember only getting all Shines because I asked a friend to help me get the missing ones, and by memory, the same day, he did it for me and I was amazed. That was my Prima guide or youtube guide lol. An actual in-person guide.

I as a kid saw the drawings of goop on the wall and thought I should spray them, and doing so made platforms appear. And judging by literally everyone else in chat, so did they. Sounds like a skill issue, Aggrogravor.
The color discrepancy probably comes from the fact that whoever played the game to write the book probably did so on a CRT. Crazy how good these games still look today just by being played in 1080p

Ironic that one of the few times it mentions belly hopping/sliding is on the bridge in Pianta Village, where that can very easily cause you to glitch through and fall into the chasm. I learned and relearned this the hard way as a kid. And as an adult when I revisited it.

For me, the hardest one was in Delfino Isle where you have to ride the Yoshi on top of some boats to reach a small island with that wiggly-spounge material that requires fruit juice to clear. The challenge it self was hard enough, but just getting to it was just as bad, if not worse.

Even a Hoverless run, Any%, 100% in under 3 hours and just the Yoshi glitch under the water 💧 to get to the island and getting the coins in 1 go.

The writer is actually red-green color blind. I checked the color chart and purple appears as just blue. Btw, most people are just red-green color impaired and can see color mostly normal. They just have trouble with fine color differences. E.g. very dark blue looks like black. Total color blindness is very rare.

And looking it up I learned red-green colour blindness can come from a few different anomalies that express differently. The way I always did Goopy Inferno is tightroping along the fence to the big tree which I would climb up before doing a leap of faith from one of the leaves to the area with your fludd and the mayor, a lot slower than you could be but it felt cool so I kept doing it.

As a kid we had that guide book but then my brother's friend's younger sister ripped it apart. I mean she was like 3 years old at the time, but it was annoying. Nowadays it doesn't matter tho lol
I like that the guide made sure to tell you to use every movement tech at least once. Genuinely not a bad introduction to how to Mario, assuming you get through the whole thing.

It's more likely that either the guy was colorblind or the tv color settings were a bit off.
