She’s more like bubbly, cutesy, happy and energetic version of Jessica Rabbit tbh. I agree that she’s still a bit flirtatious but not totally in comparison to JR.
It's nice that Nintendo let Pauline have a deeper, more mature voice. They seem to be deathly allergic to deeper female voices for some reason, Daisy and Rosalina's voice changes are examples of that.
I personally don't mind the newer voice direction for Daisy in later appearances where she sounds energetically higher in pitch, but how Rosalina sounds now might be my gripe a bit because she's leaning to sound more like Peach, which makes her lose that unique ethereal vibe to her original voice direction from Super Mario Galaxy. Although, when it comes to Daisy again, I have a preference to that voice she got in the 1st Super Mario Strikers where she sounds fittingly tomboyish with a lot of that spunk mixed with a flavor of masculine energy to her tone.
I don't mind Rosalina's current voice, it just sounds like she's putting a bit more energy into what she's doing Her OG voice is pretty ethereal tho... pwetty... 💜
@@BuizelCream Well, if we take the theory that Peach was Rosalina’s mother in a previous cycle of the galaxy as fact, it does kind of make sense for them to have similar voices. Though, I’ve not really heard a major change in Rosalina’s voice recently.
I actually do like Daisy's voice these days. But yeah.... Rosalina needs to sound more like she did in Galaxy 1.... ...Though, interestingly, Peach in Princess Peach Showtime had a deeper voice than she usually has.
@@BuizelCream I miss the original Rosalina voice, but I do get why they changed it - it doesn't exactly fit the mood of Mario Kart and those kind of games, it would be weird if she maintained her melancholic aloofness while throwing banana peels at Luigi.

Along with her other voice acting roles such as lynn loud jr and lucy loud in loud house, duleena in ballmasterz 9009, Lexi bunny in Loonatics Unleashed, Candice in close enough, Giffany in Gravity Falls, Annie in It's pony life, Hanazuki in Hanazuki:full of treasure, and Shigeru Kamado in the English dub of demon slayer.

Why does Nintendo keep changing everyone's hair color? Peach, Pauline, Daisy...they never stay the same. EDIT: Stop saying game limitations. The old cartoons and ads don't match the game either. Pauline had blonde hair in the cartoons but now she has dark hair.
Sprite limitations on old consoles meant they were limited in what colors they could use. If you look at official artwork you’ll see that Peach and Daisy’s hair colors haven’t actually changed all that much. Peach’s hair went from light brown to blonde and Daisy has always had brown hair.

Colour limitations. NES could only display something like 8 colours on screen at any given moment, which is why Mario in the original Super Mario Bros. is only made up of 3 colours, brown for his shirt, shoes, overall buttons, eyes, moustache and hair, red for his overalls and hat, a yellow-ish peach colour for his skin. They were really struggling to make unique character designs with limitations, so many colours are re-used for different parts of a single sprite, or re-used across multiple characters.
The funny thing: Pauline's original sprite design depicted her with blone hair and a pink dress, Peach will later be depicted with blone hair and a pink dress. Speaking of which, Peach's original sprite design depicted her with brunette hair
Kate Higgins has already worked on Nintendo projects before landing the role with Pauline, she got to voice Lissa from Fire Emblem Awakening in 2012, returning for Fire Emblem Heroes (2017) and Fire Emblem Warriors (2017) to voice the character again with the addition of voicing a new character in FEH with Serra from The Blazing Blade (2003) and then she voiced Purah from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017) in a flashblack cutscene for the Champion's Ballad, where you can hear her directing the picture for the Champions + Zelda & Link, then she fully voiced Purah in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity (2020), then reprised the role again in Tears of the Kingdom (2023), 2017 was basically a big year for Kate Higgins, because so many Nintendo games released with her voicing a character in it. Fun Fact: She's the current voice of Princess Aurora from Disney as of 2010.
I always knew about Pauline a little when I was a kid but I always asked myself about who she was because no one really talked about her, I think I heard someone say it was Peach but that might be misremembering it's fun to see her get more attention and content from now then all those years, she's not a generic damsel anymore....
Super Mario Odyssey Really Revived Everyone Interest of Pauline! Because Before SMO. Pauline Was Considered Obscure Nintendo Character as She Faded into Forgotten Characters Due to Princess Peach Popularity.
I'm also happy that Pauline is finally part of the Mario Party cast too, which was long overdue since her Odyssey revival. Two Mario Party games were released on the Switch before the recent Jamborgee, and she's not in both of those games for some reason. Meanwhile, she's been appearing in other branches of Mario games after Odyssey like Sports, Kart, and Strikers.
I’m very glad that unlike some Mario characters Pauline has had a consistent voice ever since she was given one. The only downside is that since Kate Higgins has a larger career than most Mario VAs I hear her voice all over the place (she also coincidentally voiced another brunette mayor in red in Scooby Doo Mystery Incorporated, which I find a funny coincidence).
I'm happy to see Pauline in the modern spinoffs. I think it really solidifies the Mario/DK connection that they've been trying to push more as well. Maybe we'll see Pauline (and DK) in a main line game like how they brought Rosalina into 3D World. Obviously they were in Odyssey, but I'm more referring to a platformer as a playable alternative to the Bros. like Peach and Toad have been.

Always liked the mini land mayhem voice Bc i grew up with that game, plus like its by far the most convincing one, she genuinely sounds legit terrified, no shot that was just a random employee
Pretty sure the gasp in Mario vs Donkey Kong March of the Minis is also a stock sound effect. It sounds an awful lot like some of the gasps used in games like Goldeneye and Perfect Dark when female characters take damage.
The mysterious lady really did an amazing job in Mario VS DK Minis, unfortunately we'll never know who did it 😅 But as for Kate Higgins, her voice is the perfect one for Pauline, both in dialogue and singing ❤ Great video Thomas 💯

The fact a jazz singer and voice actress was the first actual Pauline voice in a commercial fits really well with Pauline being a jazz singer in Super Mario Oddysey!

2:40--Well, it just so happens that the late Hiroshi Yamauchi did indeed have a daughter, Yoko. She was married to Minoru Arakawa, who was then the president of Nintendo of America, making him the son-in-law of Yamauchi. Just thought I'd mention.

Love that they gave Pauline a second chance with M VS DK and then Odyssey, now including her in the party/sports games and even the movie! She’s pretty unique when compared to the other female Mario characters. Hope she makes an appearance in the next mainline Mario game.
I believe that gasp in MvsDK2 is actually a stock voice sound effect as, iirc, it plays in either Crash Bandicoot Purple or Spyro Orange (I forget which) during the Nina boss fight.

It’s insane how her vocals are literally the core of her character and uniqueness from the fundamentals, and her breakout was an actual full vocal song, what a poetic character arc.

There's a video I saw abt old vynil records of several kids media, including videogames at the time. There's one disc album that was made in 1983, after donkey kong jr released and before any mario character had an official voice (including commercials, animated shows, etc). Love that they gave Pauline a second chance with M VS DK and then Odyssey, now including her in the party/sports games and even the movie! She’s pretty unique when compared to the other female Mario characters. Hope she makes an appearance in the next mainline Mario game.

I believe that gasp in MvsDK2 is actually a stock voice sound effect as, iirc, it plays in either Crash Bandicoot Purple or Spyro Orange (I forget which) during the Nina boss fight.

There's a video I saw abt old vynil records of several kids media, including videogames at the time. There's one disc album that was made in 1983, after donkey kong jr released and before any mario character had an official voice (including commercials, animated shows, etc). This disc contains not only Mario's first voice but also Pauline's, I believe (not exactly official but still licensed, so i do count it as their first ever voices)
