- Well, I was not expecting that at all. What a different sounding band! I love the use of tension and restraint throughout the song. His voice is beautiful!

Riverside is such an emotional band, soft and hard. Great instrumentalists, Mariusz Dudas vocals and bass is just something else.

Definitely one of their more mellow tracks. The bassist/vocalist, Mariusz Duda, is quoted as saying about the album this was from: “Musically, we've returned to darker sounds but we have also turned a new page and recorded the album in a different style. It's still Riverside but expressed in a much deeper and more mature way. Wasteland is an epic, multidimensional, poetic and very deep album. Perhaps of the once in a lifetime kind.”

@@L33Reacts Do you know Big Big Train, an English prog band whose last singer died in a tragic accident in 2021? "The Florentine" English Electric Recordings is a good one. I once recommended this band and a guy messaged to say he just bought their complete recordings on listening to them.
Welcome to the Riverside rabbit hole! As you've just discovered, they're a great band (and they're superb live!).
If you want to check out something of them live, here's a 2013 version of 'Left Out', originally from the 2009 EP 'Anno Domini High Definition': ua-cam.com/video/bkkNwzv73ac/v-deo.htmlsi=dNWkLuwjLJ2H0Fyn. It features their first guitarist. Piotr Grudzinski, who sadly died in 2016. Current guitarist Maciej Meller has really come to his own in their latest, 2023's ID. Entity.
It's likely the band filmed this video in Poland, which is where they're from. The lyrics of 'Lament' have taken on an increased depth with the war in Ukraine, which is a neighbor of Poland. Mariusz Duda, their lead singer and bassist, writes all of their lyrics, and the band get together on the music.
Riverside has no bad songs. I first heard of this band from Mike Portnoy, who loved their Second Life Syndrome album when it came out.
The best way to describe Riverside is Dream Theater with half the notes and a more souful singer. I would add that they pull from a broader spectrum of influences. You won't hear any technical brilliance from any of their music, but they have mood and feels for miles. They also have the ability ( like Rush) to make you forget they are often in odd time signatures ( like playing 9 over 10 during a very Pink Floyd inspired passage in " Escalator Shrine")
Incredible Prog band from Poland .. they lost their guitarist a while back .. he really had a unique sound if you listen to Second Life Syndrome you will understand .. thanks for your reaction
More Riverside! I guess you noticed a bit what was going on in the video, with Mariusz ears, it seemed like they were going for one deaf, one blind, one mute and healed when all together at the end..
As it was the first album after their guitarist passed away, the whole album, I take, is a concept based around grief, and feeling it’s the end of the world as you know it, staying together to get through it kind of thing, or something like that, anyway good video!
I will definitely do another track by them for you bro! I was very intrigued by this track.
