Out of this world expressive and artistically shining. Of all the drummers I've played with, Jazz drummers have been the best. The most in the pocket, complimentary and part of the ensemble as a equal. They actually know, accentuate, and listen to the phrasing and breaths of what's being played. Less is sometimes so much more. Playing fast or active without having to be louder. They are looking at the same music/chord changes and melody that the rest of the players are. The American Art form shines so brightly on the rhythm section. Jazz drummer is so failing as a name or reference to what so many of them do and are capable of contributing. They are equals as musicians when compared to anyone else in the ensemble. This young man's playing is so on point. He's LISTENING for how and what to add that best suits the direction of the composition. Well done. Thankyou for sharing his playing and thankyou for this content.
I started playing music (piano) at 6 yo. By 9 I'd branched out to Sax and My all time favorite drums. My first 5 or so years were all Jazz/Swing rudiments and stick control. I am always amazed on how such a young artist has gained decades of technique and skill. As for how do you remember the songs, it's like any other. You don't think, you allow it to come out of you. Just get out of your own damn way. That's a quality not many are lucky enough to acquire. For years I had my old Slingerland Jazz set set up with the drums angled, tuned and layed out for when I'd play that style and my other set was Armed and set for the metal that was more common to get other people to come jam to. Great to see someone like Greyson bring this out to a whole new generation, that unlike you and I, never got to watch the greats like Buddy Rich play a chair on the tonight show and wonder how he got so many sounds out of the thing. Thanks to both Greyson and you for sharing this and all your content.
As someone who loves the guitar, I react to this the way I react to Shawn Lane videos. My sons a drummer and we watched this on drumeo so many times. On the drumeo vid, they said that he improvised this because the recorded track stopped working so he played until it came back in.
Greyson. Incredible job there! I really enjoy watching you play. For those players that were not introduced to the 3 R's or any other classical training, This man has it all. Pros reacting to pros are the only reaction videos that work for me. I learn so much from this just on a musical theory level. Thanks Samus!

The really cool thing about that upside-down ride ping is that he’s not just doing it for flair - he’s getting different tones from the underside. Nothing’s just to look cool, everything’s there for a musical reason. I daren’t imagine how many hours of rudiments he puts in. As for how he memorises it… are we sure he does?
I'm 90% sure most of it's improvised, he might have memorized the stabs with the horns or something like that but beyond that I think it's all improvised :)
I watched this for the second time this week, and I am thinking of selling my new Alesis kit. Who are you, a rebirth of Buddy or what? The left and right hand singles!! The chops, the timing, the everything!! Holy fuck, man. Buddy ain't got shit on you young master! I bow to you!

I haven't watch the video yet and I"m SO excited because I know how good he is and I can't WAIT! (The paintings are really cool too!)
OMG that took my breath away and I could have smacked you when you paused it mid solo!!!!!!!! Sacrilege!!!!!
"I'm not even worthy of watching this..."
My sentiments exactly.
I fucking quit.
Best drummer ever.
Hands down.
No question...
Fight me!
lars ulrich would like a word with you
@@ryu-ken Dave Weckl can have a word with anyone!
@@ryu-ken Hahahahhahahaha
Neil used to say how dismayed he was at these types of ideas. Seeing someone great should never discourage. It should encourage to practice and work and get better, which he did until the end.
Been following this kid since right before covid. Hes phenomenal. He plays and practices constantly.one hard worker.
Greyson is quickly becoming one of my favorite drummers. The intensity of this blows my mind! Thanks 66Samus for your reaction, I couldnt have said it better... "holy fucking shiii...."
"Oh yeeeaaahhhh"
One of my favorite versions of that song is from Money Jungle. It's just Ellington on piano, Charles Mingus on bass, and Max Roach on drums.
Watch him play Bleed, he nails it in a full suit. Not sure if its on the tube, may have to scroll down on his Instagram to find it. So jealous of this 19 year old.
Has no one noticed that he turned his stick around in his left hand? He's playing with a huge meaty club! Around 9 mins in you can see that he turned his stick around and then at 9:47 he turns it back around the correct way. Absolutely amazing!
This young man was born to play the drums!! OMG
Pros reacting to pros are the only reaction videos that work for me. I learn so much from this just on a musical theory level. I am not a drummer but I am starting on bass and this type of content is really nice to put things into context from a technical perspective and a feel perspective to understand the nuance of their groove and their timing and improvisation. Thanks Samus!
Yo Samus my guy! Speaking about Greyson playing blasts… I haven’t seen that, but not long ago I saw a video of him playing Bleed by Meshuggah with double bass and all… and he fucking KILLED it too 😂
please post the vid on here if you come across it again i would love to see that :)

Thank you 66Samus for showing what can only be described as one of the most epic displays of drumming I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. Greyson is on another level, actually another fucking planet!! Those hand skills, the speed....you know, you saw. Pure genius.
Jazz drummers are amazing.
Wow, the guy has everything - style, feeling, and technique. Thanks for introducing him and sharing this masterpiece!
I’ve never seen or heard drums get played like this ever in my life. Wow
А как же Siberiano Estepario ?
Fast forward and he’s shifted to metal!!
This kid plays like someone who was never told "no, that's not possible" when it comes to the drums. And if he was told that, he answered "challenge accepted"
The pure joy on Samus' face during most of this is lovely. Real recognize real, if any drummer has a problem with this guy I say check yourself
Greyson Nekrutman, between the top 10 drummers on earth!! 😎🥁
I LOVE his drummer faces, not gonna lie. Shows how much he is invested, he even plays with his face. 10/10 performance.
This drummer is insane. To me, he is the modern Buddy Rich.
yes
Every time I hear Caravan I always have the same thought.
Obligatory “Not quite my tempo.”
This is totally not my style of music but HOLY SHIT this guy is absolutely KILLING it!!!
Dude it took me a while to realize how you are. Never looked at your face before and only knew you from your old old old drum videos. Glad to see you're still playing and doing UA-cam.
Normally I don't like reaction vids but the sheer enjoyment from Samus as a pro is just wholesome. And the drumming I'm not worthy to comment about.
Jazz drumming to me is a completely differnet beast. It is one style I never studied and to watch it is insane. Such a great drum piece and recation video!
My thoughts exactly. For me as an old jazz drummer it feels like a really good drummer improvising really well to a tune he knows inside and out.
What are "right and left hand singles"? I know nothing about drumming.
This was quite incredible to watch, extreme metal drumming is so soft compared to how INTENSE this was
This guy will be remembered for all time as one of the greats. Awesome job!
