Nathan, my dude, thank you so much. I've been a huge fan of Riverside since Second Life Syndrome was released and I never see them recognized in reaction videos. I know they don't have a ton of good live footage to go off of, but they still deserve a nod. I'm glad I was able to see Riverside before Piotr Grudzinski died, and once more since then. I miss Grudzi, but they're still a great band. Riverside is easily in my top 5.
@@AndrewRooneyDrums Also, I feel really validated because of this video. Not being a musician myself, after they released their second album the best way I could describe them to people was that they're kind of a mix between Pink Floyd and Tool. Both of which you also heard in their music.

Andrew, Riverside (Polish band) is a rather known name in the prog world. The live performances are stunning, great playing and a lot of humor with the audience. If there is a opportunity, you have to see them.

Love Riverside so much. Everyone in the band (including their late guitarist) is a wildly underrated musician on their instruments, and their songwriting is impeccable. The whole band works together the way you described Piotr's playing, very impressive and technically skilled while always aiding the song first and foremost. Hope you get back to them sometime.
Riverside is an excellent band. I saw them described as Dream Theater with half the notes and a more soulful singer and sound. Spot on.
By the way, Mike Portnoy loves Riverside, and is a friend of the band.
The bass player and singer of Riverside is called Mariusz Duda, and he is one of my favourite artists. He has his own solo career, 7 albums as "Lunatic Soul" and is starting to release music under his own name. A different style from Riverside, less metal, but one of the best song writers of the moment

This was really cool to watch. I saw Riverside here in the US a month or so before Piotr Grudzinski's (lead guitar) death which sucked the air right out of me. I am still trying to catch my breath. This was the first time that I have watched Piotr on drums. Fantastic. It was hard to see this perspective from the audience. Plus I was transfixed on PG and Maruisz. I have seen them all. By far, this was one of the best live shows that I have EVER seen. So glad that others are getting turned on to these guys.
Riverside are awesome. Lots of good albums to choose from.

Yeah! Progressive rock bands have some of the best drummers. Piotr truly plays for the song without showing off. I really like Riverside's music and they sound perfect every time on a gig. Those fast metal drummers wear you out very fast and they sound so alike.

Wow!! What threw me off the most in this song was how, at times, Piotr seemingly played double the tempo that the "feel" of the song would naturally call for. It created a lot of tension, which was awesome! I m definitely intrigued on checking out more from this band.

Brilliant band, all musicians of the highest calibre, and the song writing is magnificent.
The guy seems steady cause he used to play in death metal bands so he has lots of time for relax and activities in this one. I call it: death metal headroom.
Piotr (Mitloff) is a fabulous, tasteful drummer. His contributions are often overshadowed by Piotr Grudzinski's incredible guitar work, Marius Duda's wonderful vocals and bass playing and Michael Lapaj's superb keyboards, but Piotr is the glue that holds it all together.
All in all, Riverside is one of the best bands around.
Try the track Second Life Syndrome. Just beyond belief.

That went, for me, from a very Kansas vibe with the Hammond in the intro, to a very Dream Theater vibe with the synthy thing.
It’s funny that you notice gaming music thing. Mariusz Duda (Riverside bassist and singer) is a gamer. They even recorded a song for The Witcher 2 game.

I discover Riverside a couple of years ago, I love it, very atmosferic and melodic, all musicians are brillants, not virtuos but in a group builds a hypnotics themes.

Hi Andrew, loving the content mate. Riverside are an awesome band that you should definitely check out. Shrine of the new generation slaves is a phenomenal record, my particular favourite off it is the song 'deprived', it's absolutely stunning.
I kind of get a Dream Theatre vibe. Great drumming and time, off beats are for sure great!!

So I associated him with that band since he contributed to the other projects. I just looked it up though and that's not the case. My bad.

But another band you should check out is Katatonia Daniel Liljekvist along with a set of brother with the last name Normann one of which is the bass player in my humble opinion go hand and hand with each other as they both set the tempo I'm not a bass player but have played bass is very under appreciated part of the band unless you're Geddy Lee or such as John Myung etc...
