  • We left the state of Va in early April 2019 and spent over 2 months on the road traveling to Alaska and back with a trip to Overland West along the way. Professional UA-camr's we are not. Just for fun and for those who care to follow what we are up to. Doing the best we can, always striving to learn how to do better.

      Thx! Also kind of enjoy the long format as well. I should probably be ashamed to admit how many 90-120 min hiking vids I watch, but it is enjoyable to see the entire story in one sitting on these weeks long hikes some are doing. Good luck with the new GX build. We love ours!

      Chuck Chavez thx Chuck! Yeah we are still learning some stuff about audio levels lol. But I think we are improving a bit with our last video. Still figuring things out but I think in another view videos we will have the audio dialed in to at least be acceptable.

    Watching your old videos. Curious how you were able to have a handgun in Alaska? Planning on a trip ourselves and understand they are forbidden in Canada.

    • @overlandv10
      @overlandv10  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah they are not allowed in Canada. But there is a way to ship them from the lower 48 to AK under federal law / dealing with FFL and that is what we did. There is a network of gun shops that work together to provide the service. You can't ship the ammo though so that we had to carry through Canada which they do allow so long as you declare it and show the receipt for the guns you shipped that the ammo belongs to. We did also carry a lever action rifle through Canada legally. Just had to declare it in the US and then in Canada at the border and then again entering the US. You have to declare it on the US side so they know when you bring it back you had already legally owned it. But that was back in 2019 so I'm not sure if anything has changed since then on the Canada side.

      @@overlandv10 was thinking of ordering a shotgun to be delivered in Alaska as shotguns and rifles can be bought/processed out of state ( with a few exceptions ….Commifornia being one). Thanks for info. I’m the guy with 4WC, we need to get together and go on an outing camping/wheeling/shooting.

    What a journey. Can’t imagine doing a trip like that with my family. One nitpick, I would’ve liked to have seen this broken up into 15-20 min episodes. You might be able to get a few more viewers that way too. But maybe you had a reason for the long form. Either way, we’ll done. I’m always looking for more 100 series videos to watch.

    • @overlandv10
      @overlandv10  4 роки тому +1

      Thx. It was a fantastic trip! I hope I get to do it again at some point. On the editing we had all sorts of issues with this one including sound leveling. But my wife has since taken over the editing and she is doing smaller “episodes” along with doing a much better job with the overall editing than I was. I think she’s done all our videos since this one including our spring trip earlier this year. The 100 series is a favorite of ours too.

    What is happening with Toyota diff ? this is surprising unless truck terribly over the weight limits, so diff sits in wrong alignment. How did you allow to get gun inside Canada? No hand gus allow into Canada ?

    • @overlandv10
      @overlandv10  4 роки тому

      Good questions. We have no idea what happened with the diff. We had aftermarket 4.88's in it since the start. The front let go at 3k miles. Our best guess is just a bad gear set. The replacement set has been going strong for 20k miles without a hiccup and the rear has been fine since day one. It was a fluke. We've regeared lots of rigs and this is the first time we've ever had an issue. As far as the guns we stopped in MT before heading across the border and shipped them up to AK. There is a network of dealers that can handle all that for you. Once in AK we picked them up and on the way home we shipped them back the same way.

      Somewhere in this thread I explained that if you can find it. Basically there is a network of FFL's that help people transfer them between the lower 48 and AK. We might do a video on it at some point but there are others if you go looking for them.

      A friend of mine moved from Alaska to Arizona a few years back. He told me that to travel with firearms, you’d apply for a permit/declare your firearms. He said that you have to ensure that your firearms are not on Canada’s ban list. If they are they will be confiscated and destroyed (they have a zero-tolerance policy). Alaska Game and Fish has a lot of great info surrounding this topic. I hope this helps 😁

    Annoying background music...

  • @MrWinger1951
    @MrWinger1951 5 років тому

    New subscriber, just a couple of suggestions. First, split your long videos into separate shorter ones. Much more likely to get a viewers attention that way and have them enjoy different themes and scenarios. Also, equalize the audio between the music (too loud) and the narration (too low). Very enjoyable video!

    • @overlandv10
      @overlandv10  5 років тому +2

      MrWinger1951 thank you. Those are fair critiques. Pretty new to editing and still learning our tools, etc. We just put out a recap of our Overland East experience and tried to do a better job with our audio because we recognized it wasn’t great on this one. Although we did run into a small issue with low audio on the new one as well on a few clips because we used different cameras. But it’s a learning experience. As far as getting attention we don’t mind if people enjoy the content which is why we make it public. There is a lot of great content on YT and we are happy to contribute where we can, but our main goal is enshrining the past for our kids and eventual grandkids to look back on when we are long gone. Hopefully many many years from now :)
