Welcome aboard, thanks for checking out the channel. There are more Hail Caesar videos on the way, next one is another Punic Wars game then it's back to the Gallic Wars for a game involving a fort 👍
Thanks for tuning in 👍 we had a great time playing this one. I do have another one ready to play for the Gallic Wars but it's finding the time amongst everything else haha
Among my favorite battle reports for the channel - well done both! I think it’s very inspiring to watch the buildup of the painting and development of the starter set to this game. It makes 28mm Gallic Wars accessible to starters and veterans alike. I have watched several times, and laugh at how the veteran cohort is the one which doesn’t perform as well - funny. If I had a young person interested in the hobby, this would be the first video I would have them watch. Well done.
I really appreciate the comment, thank you very much. It's great that so many people have engaged with the video, it's precisely what I wanted to show, I couldn't make a video if it was a "clinical" approach, I'd rather have the laughs and game table chat there as well 😁 thanks for watching 👍
Grand video guys and good to see Haley back too, always a pleasure seeing her bring her joy to your suffering 😋 And this very much felt like a true Roman vs Gaul game too. Caesars report on the Ambush at Wexbrunx: “The Gauls came at us from the sunken lane and the road. Centurion Decari leading the V Cohort of the XIII Legion took his men into a hill position above the road. From here he endured the attack of several hundred Gauls, holding his line and repelling several assaults, before reforming his position and charging down one mob and shaking another into infect. His casualties were minimal but the press of the day took stock on his cohort who could go no further in battle. As for the road, the Gaulic overall leader seemed to have the same idea as his companion in the lane, driving straight at us. The enemy’s Skirmishers came forward and seemed to drive Centurion Vorenus’s III Cohort back behind Maximal’s VIII Cohort - tho later aberrations seem to place this as a faint, to draw in the Gaulic forces. However, Maximal would lead his VIII Cohort against the Skirmishers defending the fallen trees and after driving them off, endured repeated attacks from two large hoards numbering thousands of Gauls with some support from the III Cohort. But at the battles precipice even I was forced to ride in. Taking over the VIII Cohort from the fallen centurion, I rallied its survivors, broke the main line and rode down the fleeing barbarians swiftly.” * notes from the Senate suggest that Caesars claims may be exaggerated.
Nice battle report, I liked Haley’s Adam & the Ants reference (Stand & Deliver 🤣). Odd stuff happens in games but there was a bit of a hmmmm moment when the small unit of skirmishers pushed back and disordered a unit of veteran Roman legionnaires and disordered the other unit behind them. They need quadruple pay this month! 😂
First of all, thank you very much for incredible wargaming content. I do really enjoy these videos. As a newbie in tabletop wargaming (i have never played it in person, only watched your battlereports and a lot of others), I must say I really enjoyed the first turns that really showcased the turns and how they work. I hope that you will be able to continue this and maybe for the whole of the future reports, but don’t misunderstand me - I still love the battlereports and will continue to do so, No matter how you do it. Again: amazing content 😊
I really appreciate that and thank you for watching 👍 the framing of the orders is quite fun and at this size game it's alot more doable than when we get up to 10-15 units a side. I'll try and do it more often if the opportunity presents 👍
Good stuff! It's been nice reading the rules then watching this. Going to take the dive into Hail Caesar with epic scale ourselves. Can't wait to make some reports too. Cheers!
Loving the Hail Caesar content! Been absolutely devouring it, and it finally convinced me to buy in and give it a try. I'm struggling hard with deciding how to base this set though. What are the frontages for your Legionaries vs your Warbands? The rulebook suggests 150-200mm, and it looks like your warband is significantly narrower but deeper? I like the look and am just trying to replicate it a bit. Couldn't quite figure out the sizes from your Project videos.
Hi there, thanks so much, really pleased you've been enjoying the content. It's a great system to try and very forgiving as you learn it. My Warbands are about 65mm wide per base so about 130mm. I'm usually playing with people who base the same so it's not a big issue for us and I like the look. My legionnaires are about 180mm wide per unit. If you still stick to the rules that only one unit can attack per facing while a standard unit it's not a big issue 😁👍 hope that helps
I told you that was the face of a winner... Bet you wanted to swap out those dice around turn 4 It was a good game and a very entertaining battle report, so thanks to the both of you. Looking forward to more in the future.
Well, first of all, all of your battle reports are Premier League stuff - always incredibly good. Secondly, hands up, I really didn't want to enjoy this battle, thinking Ancients would just be so boring. How wrong could I have been ???? This was fascinating - so many twists and turns for such small forces and the ruleset doesn't appear to be brain damaging to learn. Respect to both of you - this was awesome and me thinks you are going to cost me a lot of money !!!! Take care.
Thanks so much 😁 that comment has made my day. Really pleased you enjoyed it. Part of doing the battle reports is also showing how you can have dynamic games without vast armies (don't get me wrong I do love a big game). Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👍
Thank you for directing me to this video. I really enjoyed it. Drew a few similarities to black powder, which I enjoy greatly. Id love to get into the game, but do I go 28mm, or give the epic a shot. Any preference there?
Thanks very much, pleased you enjoyed it. It's a tough one, 28mm has alot of character and you can do more with the bases and "look" of the armies, but the Epic stuff will give you that sense of scope and the models are really nice as well
I really enjoyed this series on Caesar's Gallic wars. I'm going to buy the starter set. I guess that is why Warlord sent you the whole big box in the first place:). Question, What size bases did you use for both the Romans and the Gauls? I really liked the way they looked on the table. Thanks.
Thanks so much 👍 Warlord asked if I would be interested in working on the Gallic Wars but said I was welcome to approach it any way I wanted. So for the Gauls they are approximately 60 x 70mm while the Romans are 45 x 65mm 👍
Great video as always. In your last turn you tried to turn the gallic warband and charge the romans behind you. Is that allowed in Hail Caesar as it is not in Black Powder.
I can't quite remember, I'm pretty sure you can redeem for 1 order including facing. Either way if I recall Hayley insisted we had to fight so we may have fudged it 😁
Interesting battle report, just seen the announcement for epic Hail Caesar. Thinking of picking it up as I’ve always liked the idea of massive battles during this time period. Are you thinking of collecting it?
I certainly will be. I haven't got any of the "Epic" warlord range yet, and it's been a while since I've done anything smaller I scale so it may be time 😁
Thanks Man! You need some special rules here. No chance veterans would have retreated straight back to where Ceaser is standing especially! 30:24 Nor would a unit of roman heavy infantry become disordered with a single casualty unless it were a character leader model that fell. Mankey dice tray for a youtube vid bro, did you catch your milk cow's poo to feed the roses or is that supposed to be camo or both?
Haha that's part of the game, sometimes it doesn't go right. Anyway it was just a learning game. The single casualty is just representative, it's meant to be dead, wounded, morale dropping etc, or as you say a lucky hit causing the unit to become disordered. It's quite an abstract game. As for the tray haha I assure you it's not manky, it's meant to be snowy ground😅 though I may have to look into getting a milk/poo spattered one for my dark age games 😁
Titus Pullo and Lucius Vorenus didn't show up because they were actually on the Aventine running their gang, and the two who were there were just body doubles.Pullo and Vorenus from wish.😂
Warlord games create these figures on a new scale and jump from project to project without completing the range of any of them. For example Napoleonics without Austrians or Russians
I don't think it's fair to compare Robin to Hayley Martin. It all went to plan then Martin!! Why would Hayley not play out the final turn. Well done Hayley, good win.
“I assume you want to shoot with your scorpion?”
“It would be rude not to”
😂
😅
Really late to the video but your channel got me to buy the starter set! Hope your planning to do more hail Caesar battle reports!
Welcome aboard, thanks for checking out the channel. There are more Hail Caesar videos on the way, next one is another Punic Wars game then it's back to the Gallic Wars for a game involving a fort 👍
Yeah for Hayley! Always great to see you supporting the hobby.
Especially when she wins 😅
Loving this battle report. Great to see HC reports out there. Love the quick explanations of the rules too
Thanks for tuning in 👍 we had a great time playing this one. I do have another one ready to play for the Gallic Wars but it's finding the time amongst everything else haha
Brilliant, Hayley is my hero, and this year should have a CrackCon 5 tee-shirt with her wargame victories on the back :).
Haha yes 😅 like a band tour t shirt
Great Battle and …. Yeees she is back 👍 💪🤩. I like the battlereports with her the Most. Keep going 👌
Awesome, thanks very much. She will be back 😁
Enjoyable game great table layout hello glad to see the bus is still winning looking forward to the next game🤠🤠🤠🤠
So glad you enjoyed it, cheers 😁

Thanks, really good to see this support that shows how much game can come out of a smallish game on a domestic table with lovely 28’a.
Thanks buddy 😅
What's not to like here? First class presentation, table and armies...Superb!
Awesome, thanks so much mate, really appreciate it 😁
Nice One Guys, Great to see Hayley back at the table and continuing her long run of Victories. Many Thanks👍🍷
Haha I was hoping her luck would have tun out, next time though 😅
Airwix will never not be funny. Great bat-rep sir. It has made me consider getting into Hail Caesar :).
Awesome stuff, glad you enjoyed it. Airwix will return 😁

I do love the way you portray these battle reports.
Really appreciate it, thanks 👍
Nice one, you roped the wife into playing. She must love you and make her laugh.
She likes making me suffer, in the game of course 😅👀
Great video you guys, nice explanation of the rules. Good to see Hayley again. 👍🏻
Thanks buddy, she really enjoyed being back 👍
Great game throughly enjoyed it. Hayley got the better dice rolls😊
That's an understatement 😅
An exciting battlereport! came here from the recent Epiic Hail caesar video, thanks for sharing these.
No problem, glad you found it helpful 👍
A great fun game guys !
Always good to see Hayley win the day 😊
Thanks mate, I'll be back for revenge 👍
A beautiful table Martin, great looking hills....
Thanks mate, I wanted the hill to be more of an obstacle in this one so added more height
LOL ! The pursuit "a l'outrance" par excellence. Hayley gets promoted to be Murat ...
Haha 😅
Another wonderfully entertaining and instructive battle report, and lovely to see Hayley back in the fray.
Thanks very much, she says she's glad to be back 😁
Haley made me laugh so hard, great batrep.
Haha thanks, hopefully she'll be up for another game soon 👍
Just watched it again after missing the first 15 minutes of the live show. Absolutely cracking game guys. Look forward to the next one.
Thanks buddy, I'm so glad you enjoyed it 😁

An enjoyable hours viewing, nice to have the rules explained as you went along.
Glad you like it mate 😁
Great report and awesome victory from Hayley. Please bring back the IX Legion :)
Haha she had a great time 😁 thanks for watching
Well done Hayley, good to see the Romans with a decent player showing how its done. Nice looking armies Martin. 👍

Great video - very glad to see a run through of the command phases. Looking forward to putting it all to use in Epic!

I have those coming up next 😁
Thanks for sharing ! Enjoyed the game.
Thanks very much 👍
Bellissimo campo da battaglia!!! un saluto da italia😁👍👍

Thanks very much 👍😁
I get my dice done here www.counterattackbases.co.uk/custom-dice

Those roads are from The Last Valley on Facebook 👍
@@7thson726 thank you. I will send him a message.
I really like the bases. Where did you get them from?
They are all from bigredbatshop.co.uk/collections/all/bases 👍
If you don't have a commander called "Weetabix" in the next battle you're not doing it right.
Well, that's going to have to happen now 😅
That would show a lot of moral fibre.....
Any chance we could get a full tutorial on HC? Your video quality would be fantastic for a full on tutorial

Who else looking forward to Hail Ceasar Epic scale?
Is that 15mm?
@hobbyspotnz2833 just under I think, but not sure.
I hope it's very close or actually 15mm.
I think they classified the napoleonic stuff as 13.5mm. But in standard warlord style they are chunky. Can't wait!
I just spotted that on warlord FB page last night. Definitely have my eye on that!!!!

The Romans who were defence behind the tree should have closed sheilds makes them harder to remove. More so when they are shaken etc
