Loving this makeover and I hear ya girl!!! Had 2nd neck surgery 2 years ago and was so bored!! Couldn’t do anything at the time with both arms just aching all the time. Looked around home and wanted to redo a bookcase. Now want to redo all furniture!! So I’ve been gathering/buying tools-just simple- for repairs. Son got me an orbital sander-Love!! Absolutely Loving!!!❤️💓❤️
Ohh my goodness that's a gorgeous transformation. Those handles just set that whole piece to another level of stunning. Past year I've gravitated towards glass knobs/pulls.
Just a warning. We bought a beautiful piece that had been restored. It had been stored before being renewed. Deep inside the wood, not easily accessible a BROWN RECLUSE spider family. Babies were born after getting to our home. I was bitten by one. Horrible injury. It was by chance that the origin of how the spiders got in was found. Babies emerged from tiny crevices. Please everyone... carefully inspect each piece, especially if they've been in storage, attic, outside, etc. I would have never thought of this danger.
@@DesertDIY That's a great idea. Those things can hide in places where you don't see them, then when inside a temperature controlled house...They multiple and creep out. These survived the entire renew process. They were inside tiny cracks that led to deep inside the wood. So glad you take steps to prevent. LOVE your channel!!❤️
Turned out beautiful 💖 I 100% agree with making over something you have. My daughter needed a dresser for her daughter, and her husband was going to buy one ($325). I said, What about that one that's down in your basement. Oh no, that's junk, I said let me look at it. I convinced him to hold off buying one and let me make it over. Well, long story short, he was super impressed and happy with the results and saved $300 because the only thing I had to buy was paint 😊
It turned out so great ❤ I’m with you about the idea of thrifting and buying stuff second hand. Not only because it saves money because sometimes it doesn’t if a piece of furniture has been restored. But because it helps to reduce amount of garbage we all produce over the years around the world.
That and the fact that the pieces from before will last years and years more than the pieces of junk made today. So, you may initially invest more but it will definitely pay off
This came out so refined and awesome! Love the top with the woodwick and white wash. And thank you for all the encouragement and tips on checking out high end stores for inspiration 🎉 Great job Cory!
My favorite of all the entries is the child's rocker, it is a cross between old Scandinavian hand painted furniture with a rocking shimmer and shine...so pretty. hope that channel wins.
My kids love helping me out too! ...especially with the tools 😂 I wish I could use Fusion mineral paint, but it's quite expensive here in Spain 😢 Your project turned out really pretty and sophisticated. Very nice job!
It looks amazing Cory! No wonder your daughter changed her mind…lol. Love those handles and I also love Hobby Lobby! I don’t buy anything unless it’s on sale and they always have sales! 🥰🥰🥰
That turned out beautiful!!! I worked on 3 pieces of furniture today. I tried to record but I forgot to most of the time.....lol. I'll remember once I do it enough.... maybe. 😂😂
Cory, I have used the fusion mineral paint on a furniture project and it turned out so good. Fusion, I think is a Canadian company and I ordered it from their website.
Your words of wisdom are awesome life lessons for us all. Yes, I have found at least 2 pieces I can upgrade with a change. I have not done a paint wash yet! I have some white voodoo gel, so I am going to try it. You made that piece top look flawless. Thank you for sharing all your tricks with us, and hosting the challenge. I bet your daughter won't let you take that piece, it's so sophisticated.
Thank you so much Dar! I love collaborating with you. Good people can be hard to find so I'm glad I found you! You'll love doing a paint wash. You'll make easy work of it I'm sure
Cory, in all honesty, the only DIY I liked was yours. 🤷 If I had to choose a second one, it would be First Rain Furniture. I didn't like the color choice but the concept was great!! jmo
That turned out gorgeous. I want to do this to my dresser and nightstands. I'm switching out my huge matching wood frame bed (giving it to my mom for her guest room)for a beautiful metal frame since my room is farmhouse. ❤
So pretty. I’m glad your daughter decided to keep it. How do you know when the pulls go 1/2 off at HL? I don’t shop there often. Maybe once in last five years 😂
This turned out sweet! Can’t wait for next year’s challenge, I’ll be ready! Battery powered orbital sander…love the idea of it but does it have enough power as compared to a plug in orbital?
Thank you! I'll have another challenge in norvember or December this year. Haven't decided the date yet. My Milwaukee sander is a beast and the battery lasts a long time. I can usually do 2 whole projects before needing to recharge.
As always it looks beautiful! Love the hardware and the top! It's just gorgeous and matches everything perfectly! Love your videos they are awesome just like you 😊! ❤
I've used Fusion mineral paint and I liked the coverage, but it was such a flat finish and I ended up with brush strokes on the final finish. It was my first attempt at making over a play table set that was solid wood that I bought off facebook marketplace for my kids. It is a bulletproof finish, though! Do you have a recommendation to avoid getting brushstrokes? I did sand between coats - maybe I needed more sanding. Or maybe the shellac step could have helped - I didn't do that.
Using a high quality synthetic brush helps cut down on brush strokes. Some people will use a damp foam roller while painting to get rid of brush strokes. So you'd brush on the paint then roll over your brush strokes
What is the wood filler you use, I did look at your Amazon store but I did not see anything lol, so the easy way out is to just ask haha? Love everything you do and it's inspiring me so much ❤
Ok so i have my deceased mom's dresser! It is very old, i would say it is at least 50 yrs old & looks it. I'm dying to re do it but I'm scared to death. I'm 61 yrs old & I can't lift heavy things & I can't walk too good so taking it outside to sand is a "no way". Soooo i was thinking about giving it a good clean & painting it with chalk paint since i heard u don't have to sand when using chalk paint. I kno your a busy mama but i would so appreciate your in put on this. Do you recommend using chalk paint on a dresser? I'm going to use it to store linens. I would love to just sand the top & stain it a light wood color + was thinking of doing the rest of the dresser in "waverly" chalk paint in the color plaster to brighten it up. OMG I'm nervous just talking about doing it lol but I've been watching your videos & girl you are inspiring me to just go for it 🥰🤞
Hi Cindy. I definitely think you can do that. Pick up some little furniture risers off Amazon. I'll link some in my amazon store for you. Stick those under the 4 corners of your dresser so you can paint all the way to the bottom of the dresser much easier. Give it a good degreaser cleaning. Paint it with a chalk paint then seal it with a polyurethane. If the wood bleeds through the paint then use shellac over the bleed through then repeat the chalk paint and poly. For the top I think it will be impossible to sand it to bare wood indoors. The amount of dust a sander makes is just not going to work indoors. Instead I'd go over the top with a darker gel stain then poly over that. Hope this helps! Oh and don't forget to rub n buff the handles if you want to update the metallic finish on them as well. Otherwise you can spray paint then black or even just chalk paint right over them. Have a blast!
So awesome that your son is helping you. I believe it’s important for the children to be involved.
I agree!!!

Oh yay you can take over the world with an orbital sander! That thing can do so much.
Ohh my goodness that's a gorgeous transformation. Those handles just set that whole piece to another level of stunning. Past year I've gravitated towards glass knobs/pulls.
Yes Georgie me too! Thank you so much

Wow that is so scary!! Something I've done in the past is collect a bunch of pieces into the garage set off bug bombs in them with the garage closed

Thank you so much! And thank you for participating in the challenge
I like that you show the whole thing. It’s not boring. I like the details.
fast forward through the painting!?! No way! Its my favorite part, its so relaxing to watch you paint the furniture.

Yes it was so cool! It was my runner up
Would look great with dark cup pulls too!
Yes! It's a versatile piece!
Borderline Furniture Rx-Denim and Diamond Dresser get my vote. I love the turnout.
Thank you for your vote! there has been another video added as well
They turned out so beautiful. I’ve been trying to convince my husband into doing this to our nightstands. 🤷🏽♀️ Thanks for sharing, Corie ❤
Oh awesome! I hope this will be a good visual of how to do it. Sometimes people just need to see it with their own eyes.
@@DesertDIY I hope so too. 🤗
There were some amazing transformations. I vote for the steampunk chair. It blew me away

My favorite makeover is the dresser from Flip it Furniture!
Yes that was gorgeous!
Before you started your makeover most people wouldn’t have given it houseroom but look at it now anyone would love to have it in their house
So true! Thank you!
My kids love helping me out too! ...especially with the tools 😂 I wish I could use Fusion mineral paint, but it's quite expensive here in Spain 😢 Your project turned out really pretty and sophisticated. Very nice job!
Thank you so much. Maybe one day there will be local sellers in Spain. Do you have Spanish brands?
@@DesertDIY Maybe. However, I'm looking for a similar quality local product and I think I might have just found one 😁
You are Awesome Cory. Another beautiful, creative piece. I love that you are so encouraging. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much Janet. The world could use more encouraging. Especially on the internet
ok that dresser top came out great - when it turned red and the molding was white pine I thought oh no! But it came out great!!
I thought "oh no" as well haha. Thank you
Cory, l just LOVE the Flip it Furniture green dresser.
I am so glad. Thank you for voting!
Hi! It's awesome that this piece is real wood. My nightstands are cheap mdf. 😢
You can do a faux wood look or use retique it wood finish
Wow looks soooo good.
Beautiful hardware.
Staged it perfectly too.

beautiful as usual. What did you use to fill the holes and nicks in the night stand
if there are holes and knicks you can use wood filler or bondo

Hello! Which paint brushes do you like to use when painting furniture?
I like using soft synthetic bristle brushes.
The play list isn’t in the description box.
I have double checked and it is in there. It is the very first line in the description.
Isnthere a way to strip? chalk paint with a wax finish
Yes any paint stripper will remove those
Man, the fusion mineral paint looks like it just flows on. What kind of paint brush are you using?
Just a cheap craft paintbrush from an art set haha! The paint is thinner than other paints so it flows really well
@@DesertDIY Awesome, thank you!
👌✅

Sorry about that! I fixed it!

Does the Dixie Bell sealer shine or is it flat?
