My dad brought one of these home in 1982 and I used to sneak it out and drive it. The car had so much torque that if you dropped it into first gear and floored the accelerator the gear selector would pop up into 2nd gear. If you held it in first it would lay rubber down the street. It was a dark blue 1969 model with a black vinyl roof made out of a canvas type of material. Gorgeous bodywork and first class interior. Loved the Mark III.

I was lucky enough in my teens to have purchased a 1961 suicide door Lincoln in excellent condition… drove it for two years and then purchased my first Mark III a 69 model. I would go on to eventually have owned four of the Mark IIIs over several years. It is interesting to note that with the quick commercial success of this series of Mark that Ford did no design changes except for a few things that only Lincoln purest know - one of them being the hideaway windshield wipers did not exist in the 68 and 69 years and first appeared in the 70 and carried over into the 71 model year. In 68 and 69 the interior wood grain was artificial however in 1970 and 1971 Rosewood was introduced and the model that you show in this video has real Rosewood on the doors and the small strip in the steering wheel and on the dashboard as well. It probably was not inside the dashboard in your example (most lost over time) but at the top of the glove box was a handheld mirror that could be removed from a little shelf that held it. Also you did not mention that this is one of the first cars to use fiber optics. The little bump on the back shelf in between the flow through ventilation vents is a little module with two red eyes that would stare at you in the rearview mirror at night as long as your taillights were on. This feature was to allow the driver to know if a tail light bulb was out. I was absolutely enthralled with that and loved that little feature which used two thick strands of fiber optics that went from those little dots on the rear shelf all the way to the tail light housings on each side of the rear fenders. The flow through ventilation system could be turned on or off and it actually was a pneumatically operated damper door in the back shelf that would open up and completely vent the interior of the car… I think because everybody in the 60s and 70s smoked lol. The Lincoln Mark III in my opinion was absolutely superior in build quality and each series after that seemed to get worse until the Mark VII came out, which was a whole different ball game and actually a wonderful car as well. I am now 63 years old and I have owned about seven various Lincoln’s in my youth. I have long moved on to more exotic vehicles including many Japanese and European vehicles, but the Lincolns hold a very special place in my heart, especially the Mark IIIs.
Thank you so much for all that added information very much appreciate it I didn’t know about the fiber optic.. I made a list of all the different changes for 1970 that’s why I went on about the hidden windshield wipers.. The way I end up doing these episodes the research I make a huge script and I usually just read from the script and just add stuff and it’s more of like an outline. But for whatever reason the paper that I had with all of the differences ended up in a different pile and I found it yesterday after the fact. I wanted to mention 1970 was the first year for an American car to offer radial tires as standard equipment They were Michelin.. shot another luxury vehicle that day as well which will be on the channel soon.. it had pillow top seats I forgot how soft pillow top seat were, but I’ve owned two Lincoln town cars one with velour pillow side seats which 1988 I really miss that car and it got decent gas mileage took it on a long trip and got 25 miles per gallon on the highway
Cool and informative post! I’ve owned my Mark lll since 1985 and echo all that you stated! I own a 97 Mark Vlll LSC as well and that is the most wonderful driving car I’ve ever driven. A great combination of fairly smooth ride BUT crisp sharp handling, ample power , superb steering etc … and very dependable. Mine has almost 350k miles! Original engine, one transmission @ 265,000 miles. And this is NYC driving!

Hello new friend. As a 70 Lincoln owner myself. I loved this video. I've been modifying my mark for years. With almost no aftermarket support, almost ever performance was guaranteed NOT to fit. Lol
But we're getting there. EFI to long tube headers. Stall torque ,373s and traclok.
My father had a 69. I got my driver's license in that car. The instructor was so relieved to get out of the heat in Chicago. He just sat in the seat and kind of melted with the AC on. It was awesome
These cars had a lot of sound deadening insulation in them. First year 1969 is my favorite. I think had no emissions equipment unlike subsequent years. Fantastic video thank you!

Great review. I was lucky enough to own a 1970. The 69 Mark III had faux walnut veneer, while the 70 and 71 had real walnut veneer. The wipers on the 69 were exposed, and mounted on the cowl. 70 and 71 had hidden wipers. Also, the wipers were hydraulic like the Thunderbird, not electric, and were truely continiuosly variable. There was a fresh air ventilation system that took in outside air from the front, and vented it through a large louver between the rear window and deck lid. My 70 also had a rudimentory Kelsey Hayes Anti-lock brake system for the rear wheels. I could go on, but suffice to say the Mark III had essentially every technology available at the time, and the majority were standard features, not options.

@David Shirly, Nice info. I know Jay puts effort into research, but many cars have some special features that were a big deal in that era. If I recall correctly, the Mark III had 4 wheel disc brakes as standard equipment. The only other American car with that feature was a Corvette. Also, I strongly suggest Jay get a video camera with lighting. 🔦💡🕯

@@davidshirly7275 , Hmmm 🤔, I’m absolutely certain they were available. Using the rear disc brakes of Mark III was one of the Ford Muscle Parts suggestions for Mustangs (I had a ‘70 Boss 302).
From my understanding rear discs didn’t come until mark 5
70 mark iii was first car to offer radial tires as standard equipment which was a huge deal.
I need to getting lighting rig this one I thought gauges were good until wiper pod park the car outside and did it and it had too much lightning created Glare so you’re always looking for the happy medium because inside is too dark.

The cruise works as follows: pull towards you the lever on the dash that says SPEED. If system is working properly the little red jewel will illuminate. Next manually accelerate to any speed over I believe about 24-26 MPH and then press in that little black button on the end of the turn signal stalk. It has TWO Detents. The first detent will select and hold whatever speed you’re going once released. It also is the Accel feature. If you want to automatically increase your speed you simply hold the button to the first detent until new speed is reached and release it. If you’re going too fast and want to slow down you push in ALL THE WAY on that black button and it will release the throttle until you release the button. At that point whatever speed you are now going will be maintained. To deactivate cruise either turn SPEED switch towards DASH OR tap the brake. Tapping the brake releases the cruise control but keeps it still active so long as you didn’t turn switch towards dash. Side note: the cruise in the Mark lll does NOT have a resume feature. You have to once again manually press the gas until you achieve your new speed and tap that button till first detent! This is almost verbatim to the owners manual. I’ve had my Mark lll since 1985 know it inside and out! As for year to year differences : 1968/9 crank driven power steering pump, Diamond pleated style seat/door panel trim. Fake wood on every panel that appears wood. Exposed wipers, no rear bumper reflectors, early cars had white instrument needles vs later through 71 orangish, early 68-9 had mechanical clock, the Cartier clock came late 69 and was quartz movement., 68/9 had the lovely turbine finned wheelcovers, the steering wheel on 68/9s had horn ring no rim blow yet. Also there were THREE different style center pads on steering wheel depending on production time. Seats on earlier cars had embroidered scroll work on rear center upper seat. Early production NO HEADRESTS. THATS most differences. 1970-71 used REAL WOOD even on steering wheel, different seat/door panel pattern , rear bumper reflectors added, concealed wipers. Belt driven PS PUMP, automatic climate control became standard equiptment, rear de-icer added to options (lines in rear glass), several other minor changes as well. New for 70-71 wheelcover design etc. hope this helps !!! Several other very minor detail changes from 68/71 as well like colors offered , added deleted etc.

I own a 1970 mark 111,I always wanted one, finally I rescued one from some people who shouldn't own one, it's humble but solid .I feel so lucky
In the late 70s I had my grandfather's Mark iii and as a 16 year old I realized how awesome that car was. I was that rare teenager that buckled up both the lap and shoulder belts when I drove, aside from the obvious safety aspect, you had a better feeling of how the car drove and handled with the belts buckled. A couple of years later I was in a head on collision with a Chevrolet suburban that crossed the center line and hit me head on. Because of the size of the car and the fact that I was wearing both the lap and shoulder belts in the collision I walked away with only bruises from the belts. Buckle up and enjoy the car.

Hi Jay, thanks for reviewing the Mark III. These cars don't get the respect they deserve. I had a beautiful 1970 myself that was aqua with aqua metallic leather and a black top; her name is Barbara. I wanted to say that the wood grain in the 1969 was plastic but the 1970 and 1971 was all real wood. The speed switch you were unsure about was for cruise control and while it was very primitive, the Mark III was the first car with antilock brakes. It was called Suretrack and of course it was labeled in the chrome brake pedal which was so of the time. The computer cycled the brakes four times a second which is nothing compared to todays cars but it was pretty darn cool for 1970. Due to my employer chatting down during the pandemic I had to make the hard choice to allow her to go to a new caretaker. She sold at the classic car auction here in Palm Springs with 43,000 miles and is now in a private museum in Northern California. It was an honor and a joy to have her for the four years I did. You are correct that they are not cheap to maintain such a complex car that is over 50 years old. But I have an Audi A8L that while I love it and it has a price tag in the six figures, it just blends in with all the other cars on the road. Every single time I drive Barb, people would smile and wave. I had a motorcyclist that had a new question for me as we came to each of six red traffic lights. The gas station or stater brothers parking lot always turned into a conversation with a stranger sharing the memories seeing her brought to them. She was nearly 22 feet of aqua colored 1970 excess wafting down the road leaving a wake, a palpable sense of nostalgia and joy. So as someone lucky enough to be one of her temporary stewards, every dollar I spent to maintain her was well spent. I love that you want to spark an interest in classic cars in the next generations. These cars are more than transportation. They are time machines that speak to the unique world in which they were created. Any classic car person knows it is just different when they are driving the old car. It just brings joy to you and so many others. I sure do miss her.

Nothing ride like a Lincoln some Cadillacs come close but their interiors ( Cadillacs are too plain for a luxury car in my opinion) you’re right in saying they are machines some of them can be temperamental the more you drive it the better they are generally.
I owned 88 Lincoln town car still the best riding car I’ve ever owned I reviewed the grand Wagoneer that rides a lot like an 88 Lincoln town car even though it’s a very long SUV I would not recommend buying that car tho because of Reliability issues
I loved the Mark III from the minute I saw a brand new one. Still like it better than Mark IV's, V's or VI's because it's so restrained yet elegant in appearance, plus had plenty of leading edge tech. It's also one of the main characters in The French Connection, a 1971 movie, Mark III starring as The Bad Guy's car, a landmark, gritty film about drug trafficking as well as aggressive & questionable police tactics and has one of the top two niftiest chase scenes even filmed...an NYPD Narc Detective driving a 1970 Pontiac Tempest chasing a foreign assassin riding on the L Train in Brooklyn.

Family friends had a 1963 Buick Electra and that car's AC vents were both on the left & right end of the dashboard, similar to this car and in the middle of dash just below the radio. Hope you get a 60's Buick to review someday...the Electra 225 was the largest Buick model during those years.

Hey Jay, one of the outstanding features of the 1970 Continental Mark III - it was the first car in the USA with Michelin steel-belted radial tires as standard equipment.

I’m learning how to drive and I told my mom that I wanted to buy this car when I get my drivers license. It’s a super nice looking car and I love the headlights.
That car would be an awesome car to own just know it doesn’t get good gas mileage but late 80s town cars are nice and great great gas mileage on the HWY 88 towncar is the best year in my opinion if you go that route look for the signature series it offers better seats The easiest way to tell if it’s a signature series is the chrome goes up the rocker panels to just below the belt line. It will also say signature series on the b pillar vinyl roof they also offered this car with digital dash and air suspension which I would avoid if you could do digital dash is cool when it works when it doesn’t work it’s a colossal pain it the but
But if gas mileage isn’t an issue for you the mark three is a stellar car

@@MustardCrow I had one as a teenager in the late 70s. It was an awesome car for a teenager. Fortunately I was that rare kid back then that wore both the lap and separate shoulder belts when I drove. A lap belt alone provides minimal protection as it only restrains your lower body. The shoulder belt is essential for the best protection in a collision. I know, I walked away with only bruises and minor scratches from a head on collision with a drunk driver. I was wearing both the lap and shoulder belts in the collision. Hopefully you will find a Mark iii.
I have one, it is real walnut on the steering wheel. I love mine. Best built car I have owned.

I have owned a 1939 La Salle, very dependable, 1949 Cadillac club coupe series 61, (fastback), 1956 Coupe DeVille double x code batwing V8,and 1968 Cadillac Coupe de Ville which I still own. The Lincoln Continental Mark 3 for 1970 is the best car I have ever owned. I was a Cadillac man, no more.

I have restored two of the 70 mk 3s . I did that 20 yrs ago and learned from people who built them what they were. They were built in the plant by the T birds They were a beautiful car. They said they only gat 12 mpg but I drove my last mk across the us from Seattle to Providence Rhodesia Island and averaged 16-18 at 60mph back then. I still like them I think they are so unique. Big but beautiful. Yours is very nice looking. They were quick for there size but floated at high speeds. I had a 70 imperial it was way more stable on the road. Thanks for showing the car.
Thank you so much for correcting me I’m sorry I didn’t know this was a ford product it’s so confusing but makes sense. The car in the video is for sale at jkgalleria in Salem Ohio to my knowledge it’s original. EPA did tend to under estimate at times. I had a 88 Lincoln town car signature and drove it across the state got it got 25 on the hwy.. Lincoln’s have always been underrated even now =)

I've got a triple black 71 I'm gonna start restoring soon, it's going to have efi and I'll be swapping in an E4OD overdrive transmission which should dramatically improve fuel economy. Unfortunately there's very little aftermarket support for these cars so you have to get creative with a few things

Great to see the Mark III. In 1971 my grandad bought a Mark IV and he proudly drove it off a curb to show how soft and silent the suspension was. Then, 6 months later, he was driving the car on black ice over a freeway overpass when suddenly the whole front axle assembly flew off, leaving the big vehicle skidding on its nose but surprisingly very little damage otherwise occurred thanks to the ice. Forever unforgiving of Ford, my grandad switched to Cadillac and never drove anything else afterwards. But, with the velour seats, the Rolls Royce-like grill, and the diamond-flecked green paint made the car gorgeous. The soft-buoyant ride of that car isolated one from the cares of life… an era gone forevermore.

A friend of my grandpa’s had a Lincoln mark five collectors edition he fell asleep at the wheel and took out 19 guard rail cop comes up to the door and asked him hey what’s going on and he’s like I’m just driving here I must have fallen asleep. Cop told him to get out and look at the car he gets out in the whole passenger side of front end is completely gone.. Insurance company pay for the car he essentially went and got a diamond Jubilee edition he said they were the safest cars ever great guy he was a character
How does a whole front axle “fly off “???? For one this car has independent front suspension , With an upper wishbone and a single lower arm connected to a strut rod that’s bolted to the lower arm, passes through a hole on the front cross beam (part of chassis) with two big rubber bushings on each side. I think Gramps made up a story as his pride was hurt ! Lol
@@jakereal3604 Good question. That I cannot answer as that was what my grandparents reported to me, and they have been dead over 30 years. They said that the car skidded upon its nose on black ice as the car was crossing a highway overpass.
Mine have been gone for many years too! Glad he wasn’t hurt with whatever happened that time but sorry for your loss. Grandparent hold a special spot in our hearts.
I had a 1971. The power steering pump doesn't last long on these so buy a backup and never if it's a winter blast and that car isn't garaged NEVER try and turn the wiper knob when it's ice cold out because you can break the gears inside.

Hi, very nice vehicle. I have one just like it but it's light blue with dark blue vinyl top and interior. It belonged to my father-in-law. He brought it brand new and it's been garage kept for the last 30 plus years. just had the carburettor rebuilt. All original, one owner. It's up for sale if anyone is interested. Very very nice car, 73k original miles. I just started cleaning it. The only thing I’ve cleaned so far is the vinyl top, hood and trunk. Will work on the rest a little at a time.

My boss had a Lincoln town car something and it was like this car a huge engine hood and an AWSOME quad eight stereo system . It would blow the doors off AWSOME . I think the best stereo I have ever heard . He had an 8 track cartridge with Barbara STREISAND sinding hello dolly .WOW . I WOULD BUY THE CAR JUST FOR THE STEREO SYSTEM .
I had an 88 Lincoln town car and it was a lot faster than people gave a credit for I’d be my friend who has a Camaro it wasn’t anything fancy I think it was a 305 Camaro but I blew his doors off in the look on his face as I was passing him was just priceless

Great Review. I always wanted a Mark III. Ill have one someday. I just bought the next best thing...the 72 one year only no bumpers-Mark IV.
My father had one of these 50 years ago. Brown with a white vinyl top. It had a hood ornament and the sensor eye on the fender for the automatic headlight dimmer. I think it had an inside hood release. The button on the end of the turn signal stalk was for setting the cruise speed. The back up light lenses were flat, without the protrusions, yours looks like the 1969 version to me. There was no doubt that it would easily do 120 MPH. This brought back many good memories.
Suggestion: If you want to know how the cruise control or other things work, look in the owner’s manual.
Honestly couldn’t find owners manual that was downloadable..
Every time I see a Mark III/Mark IV, I expect to see William Conrad [Cannon] driving it.

I’m in the same boat you are, my dad had a 70 mark3, you knew you were moving when the gas gauge and the speedo were pointing away from each other
It is so nice that so many of the continentals had the sharp frontal edges, which gave the driver an insight into the car's length when parking etc. Not something carried through to today's vehicles, where all the edges are cut off. As well, the Caddilaces also had the rear quarter-light withdrawing horizontally, which is a neat feature. Overall, this is a real luxo-barge in my book. Lots of instruments and the passenger be damned. In my book, any car company that provides a mirror for the driver, ensures a traffic jam as women use it as a makeup mirror while driving. Too much of a distraction hazard. The rooftop row of warning lights is very sexy too.

Great video! I’m glad younger guys like you can have an appreciation for what this car was/is. You nailed it when you said QUALITY!!!! Bingo. This was the pinnacle of design , appointments and quality. The Mark lV was a nice car but quality of materials stepped down a bit and the Mark V was even more plasticky. Even the hidden light mechanisms on this are a work of art and very over engineered ! They have brass bushings where they pivot so that they operate quietly and don’t squeak ! Also take note of the way the cover tilts back then upwards. They did this so that the covers appear flush fit!

Hey Jay, I am happier than a pig in a puddle of mud!!!! Great video & worth the wait!!! You might be able to tell that the Mark lll is my favorite Lincoln of all. I currently drive an 18 Continental & even with all its technology it's not as good as the Mark lll. Yes, the wood on the interior is real wood & the speed button on the dash is simply the on off switch for the cruise control & the little red light next to it glows when the cruise is on. Question what did the button on the end of the turn signal indicator do. I pushed it while car was on and didn’t see anything happen.
It sucks how far quality fell in the 80s I thing the v is a quality car not same quality as this the V is longer and i think it weighed less.. I haven’t been in either mark I the mark iv, lsc or any that came after that.
I kept referencing the lsc because in my opinion both of these Lincoln’s were radical the mark III not as much as LSC but to me the LSC is the 80s/90s, it’s almost like Lincoln’s Version of the mustang II, but was well received (to be fair mustang II was well received back in the day not looked as the same now for some people, the LSC is a cult classic and the more I talk about it it’s been a while since I’ve seen one) they used to be everywhere
@@What.its.like. The button at the end of the turn signal stalk activates the cruise control but you have to make sure to turn on the speed button on the dash, I know, it's confusing!!! As for the LSC, I had an 88 LSC with the 5.0 HO engine & I loved that car, I kept it for 20 years & put almost 300,000 miles on it. It's probs the best car I ever owned!!! 🙂

Lincoln Mark III, IV & VI were incredible cars. I owned IV , V ,& VI , Found V overblown.... just bought a Mark VI in perfect condition.. the electronic dash feature was & is awesome...so ahead of it's time. I drove these in my 20's & 30's & never admired pony cars ( for immature kiddies). My 1st cars were 64,68 72 & 74 T Birds. But, I had to own another Mark VI, before I die....makes me feel like a billionaire....JR
Man you sound just like me in my late teens I tried to buy a mark vi I think that’s the best packaged pointy mark. It’s not huge like the III IV and V and gets decent gas mileage. I just could never find one that wasn’t a complete turd. I’ve been looking for one to review, the VI is the hardest ones to find for some reason. 1988 Lincoln town car signature series was the best riding car I’ve ever owned.. would love to have another one day just like the one I had maroon on maroon
My dad used to sing me that Hot Rod Lincoln song. Lots of great 'car songs" out there. Marc Cohn "Silver Thunder Bird. Prince "Little Red Corvette" Yep! There were a plenty of these on the road. Now finer than a frogs hair. The 70's were of simple line elegance with "hints" of chrome. It was no longer troweled on. I do like the chrome accent piece on the back of the seat. Lincolns came in really nice colors as well. I used to have a "pound" of keys on a ring, til' I wore out an ignition switch on a Caviler. Glad you got to drive this beauty Jay!
What a great memory thank you so much for sharing.. my grandpa would sing in his mercury I’d ask him what he was singing and he’d say songs are too old for me to know, figured one out a couple months ago.. how jazz music is made by bing Crosby, grandpa was my best friend. He died 2 days before I got my drivers license. I’m 33 now so that’s like half of my life ago. He taught me everything another story for another day maybe I’ll tell that story either when I review a mercury or F150

Beautiful Continental. But a mechanice told me onetime to think twice before buying a Mark 3. The Heater core is difficult to replace. He said the book shows 15 hours to replace the heater core. If I am wrong please let me know ? That is why I purchased a Continental Mark 5. But The Mark 3 is the best looking.

I have no idea why they made the heater core one of the hardest components to get access to. You would think they would make that piece more accessible.

One more thing I didn’t mention and don’t see in any post was the auto high beam option. I’m not sure why Lincoln chose to mount the sensor/amplifier out on the left side of the cowl but they did. It looked almost like a laser gun or radar! Lololol if you look at the owners manual you will see a picture of the unit and description of how to operate it. Another awesome feature that my car has is the HUGE ASC power sunroof. It’s a metal panel covered in the same Calvary twill material as the rest of the top that retracts. No glass like 95% of cars with Moonroofs/sunroofs. It’s about 22”x like 39-40”. Lolol like a convertible

one of my favorite cars. 70 was the best year. woodgrain dash. high comp engine. but you have to use a octane booster or mix race gas with non ethanol 92. still worth it. I have 77 towncar that is like driving yourvsofa around town.

You're too young to remember what a sensation the Mk III was when it was introduced. I can remember it being a real head turner when one would show up. I was in high school then. Car & Driver magazine did a fun article with Charles Fox where they gave him a new Mk III and no cash and he was able to get food and hotel rooms just by the car showing! Wouldn't happen now!
I wish I was around back then frankly cars are just appliances now if I could have it my way I would own a bunch of 30s and 50s cars lol but I do have a soft spot in my heart for the Lincoln Mark series

The first integrated A/C panel vents (that I know of) were in the '55 Pontiacs with factory A/C.
Jay, never close a car door by pushing on the window. 8:22 These are windows that aren't supported by an actual door frame. The reason is doing that weakens the window supports inside the door. And some car owner's will freak on you. Jay Leno does this, we don't know why, and commentors go nuts. Just get into the habit of closing car doors by pushing on the metal above the exterior door handle, that's always a strong area.
Yeah I thought that when I did it I was like that window is to thin to push it shut The windows in that car reminded me a lot of the Jaguar XKE windows

The Mark VII shared more components with the Thunderbird than the Mustang. The Mark VIII was almost completely Thunderbird underneath.

The 0-60 is actually quicker...I've seen '69 models run in the high 7's, and the '70 models, with a little more weight, aren't too much slower. From a roll...mid and top end, they move very well.

Love these videos! Have you thought of doing some on British Imports? I saw you have one on Jaguar. I fell in love with XKE’s in the 60’s. My family had Triumphs back then. Dad had a spectacular GT6. It was like a mini XKE. I had the Herald. They were notoriously unreliable but the absolute fun of driving them was beyond any other type of car I’ve ever driven. Getting back to this video, I’ve a;ways admired the look of this model Lincoln. Very cool to see such a close up look at them. Amazing how much more room they have than todays cars, but they were about the size of an aircraft carrier!

That car is super hard to get into because of the door sill is really wide we have featured three exotic cars on this channel so far the Chrysler turbine car I couldn’t sit in. The Ferrari 328 GTS is by far the hardest car to get out of the Jag might be the hardest one to get into but getting out isn’t so bad the Ferrari it’s a little different you pretty much fall into it it’s great once you’re in there but it’s really hard to get out. =)
@@What.its.like. Mark II Jaguars (1959 to 67) were damn cute, handsome, pretty...however you want to describe. I think it eventually inspired the BMW 5-series. Bank robbers in Britain like to use them because they could outrun nearly any police sedan.
The speed light, might be a governor. When you were showing the gouges I was checking to see if there was a second indication arm (usually white) in the speedometer, it might be all electric system. When get to the set speed that light may flash or a sound is made ,this is so you don't go over the set speed. I know Buick has this I don't know if Lincoln did
U should have a Vent System control under the dash on driver side to open rear vents,also trunk release switch inside the glove
Worked for a car dealer that tried to sell a Lincoln Mark 111 with a bad transmission. The car was abused by teenagers. Although, same as any car dealer they wanted too much money for it.
That’s crazy.. I had two Lincoln town cars 88 and 89 the 88 was one of the best cars I ever owned the 89 was the worst car I ever owned 3 transmissions in the car.. I only drove that one 500 miles in the 2 years I had it, the 88

The keys look like typical Ford keys for the era, and they didn't seem to bother changing them for a long time.
It has come to my attention, that GM and Ford had a differing policy of access to the rear. The GMs had the seats pivoting on eccentric cams, offsetting the seats for ease of entry, where the Fords just leaned forward. A very different design philosophy.
Don't forget to mention "Commander Cody's "Hot Rod Lincoln. 1970 was a year of innovation. A "Sure Track" electronic anti-lock brake system became available as standard equipment on the Mark III. The Lincoln you were driving was equipped with this system. You would be able to see" Sure-Track" written on the stainless steel band located on the brake pedal. Also, the feature you mentioned with the wipers going down behind the windshield is called parking and was available for the first time in 1970 Across most of the Ford line. You are correct that the switch marked "Speed" was the way you activated the cruise control, then a push of the button on the turn signal lever after 35 MPH locked the speed in until you hit the brakes. The 460 V8 had well over 400 BPH, but for insurance purposes, Ford used more conservative figures. One other feature you didn't mention is "Auto Seat back latches" When either door is opened, the Auto seat back latch system releases the seat backs and then locks them again once the doors are closed. You will hear them click each time the door is opened. Available on 2 door models only. I love your videos and always look forward to your next one. I think it is wonderful to see a young man like yourself take an interest in these forgotten and, may I say, glorious cars from this generation. Seat back lock thing is weird, I got to drive that Lincoln it was cool when we were doing some of the shots of it driving I was telling the driver that if Lincoln ever made a hot rod this was it I wish I would’ve got a video of his face when we were going down the road because he couldn’t believe how fast it was
I have always been a huge fan of Lincoln you actually underscored this vehicle this vehicle is to be considered the greatest personal luxury car ever made in America you also got a cheaper model of this car this car came with other features that are not on this car such as a moonroof such as tilt telescopic steering wheel and I also believe it to be another motor you could get for this car I believe you could put the 427 in this car too if you would get the option this call also comes with dual exhaust with you did not mention this call also came with what was that doesn't feature a rear defroster you could also get in this car a CB radio and you could also get an 8-track player
This was always one car that I really wanted to drive and when we went out and shot this video I told the driver I said punch it it will surprise you and it flew him back in his seat and he just couldn’t believe the amount of power that it had. One of the best riding cars that I was ever in

I do but I’m broke as hell, I’m not going to buy another car for while I do want to buy a chassis 36 ish chassis and build my own per war race car on a budget.. I have ideas just don’t have the funds for that honestly think it can be done for under $10k motor and drive train parts aren’t expensive, well not the motor I want to have in it 250 or 292 in line 6 big cam Weber tri power side drafts 4/5 speed trans two speed rear 5:14 3:73 which would make it a ten speed. Body would be the most expensive part.. I want basic tear drop shape no fenders hoping maybe able to build it next year.. oh yeah it has to have the wire wheel knock offs.. if that dream come to life I’ll share that car with everyone =) just like I share the truck now
I love the design and construction materials of the inside door panels. It's very very upmarket. Compare it with the 1970 base level Thunderbird. Huge difference.
That interior was awesome I got to drive that car this summer and it was absolutely incredible end it was fast and comfortable =)
The cruise switch on the dash board is the master on off switch. It has to be on the on position to work. The end button the blinker sets the cruise control. If you press and hold if it is engaged it will slow down the car. If you push the end button and let it go it more than likely will increase your speed in small increments. If you brake or slow down to 30 or 25 MPH and hit tap the end button it will accelerate to the previously set speed. Later models of Ford Mercury Lincoln had the cruise buttons on the steering wheel spokes and they eliminated the master switch on the dash board whereas mid to late 70s and mid 80s maybe 90s Cadillac did not. Hope this helps.

Hey Jay, outstanding work here, how about reviewing an 1978 Lincoln MK V diamond jubilee edition celebrating Ford's 75th year of existence. Particularly the " jubilee Gold" colored car. Only 2,557 were done on jubilee Gold.Perhaps the 75-76 Mercury Grand Monarchs with Ghia trim package. Just found this channel, subscribed immediately.Truly thank you, especially myself being an owner of a 73 T- bird black over burgundy 429, 4 Venturi. You very correct about build quality, my 73 Tbird build vs 77- 79 T- birds and MK Vs is HUGE!!! In some areas damn near night and day different. Gigantic drop off from those intervening years. Still MK Vs are my favorite cars of all time.

The switch left of the power antenna switch controls the map light, not the seat release. Also of note the windshield wipers are hydraulically powered off the power steering pump. I have a black 1971 Mark III.
On this one it did control the power antenna goes up and the power antenna goes down The other switch when I clicked it it move something in the seat back because the seat back move when I hit it.. it was weird

I myself have owned a few Lincoln's myself my uncle owned a 1968 Lincoln Mark 3 that was the Cartier Edition that's my first time ever being in one and I remember as a kid my uncle and my father and my mother and my Uncle Lenny's girlfriend took off for the weekend and I had the keys to this car and I was 12 years old driving this car LOL I have also owned a 1972 Lincoln Mark 4 which was pretty decent the mach3 is the best out of the Mach series ever made including the LLC models because I've owned a couple of those I also owned a few mock sixes a 1983 Bill Blass Roadster an 82 fossati Edition in a 1981 Cartier Edition I also owned a 1986 LSC and that one was a Cartier Edition I am actually currently looking for another 1968 or 69 Mach 3 I've always wanted to get one of my own they are so hard to find and people that own them do not want to get rid of them
Beings that you owned one of these who built this car was it built by Lincoln was it built by Continental or was it built by Ford earlier on I had a guy who was ripping me a new one because I didn’t know who built the car he said Ford built it not Lincoln

I think you’re right I think the seats were redone at some point but I could be wrong that car did not have that many miles on it I think it was 30 something thousand original documented miles

Oh it's not Licoln Mk3 or 4 or even 5, it's Continental Mk3. During the late 50s upto the Mk6 in the early 80s Continental Mark series was an independent brand of Lincoln
It’s confusing but apparently this car was a ford product with a Lincoln ornament on the back
Next time you are near a Mark series and a Lincoln look at the hood ordiment they are different and if you noticed there is no Lincoln badges.
See Ford wanted a high end car like Chrysler had the Imperial, so in the 50s Ford decided to take the Continental badge from the 40s and make its own division under Lincoln Mercury
If you get a chance to, look up Rare classic cars on UA-cam , they do a comparison of a Lincoln Continental and a Continental Mark 4 ,both from 72 and you will notice the differences

Jay, you need to wear both the lap and shoulder belts on the test drives of these older cars.
Seriously, you need to start buckling up when you review these classic cars. Aside from the obvious safety aspect of wearing the lap and shoulder belts, you will have a better feeling of how the car drives and handles. Belts will hold you firmly in your seat and enhance the overall quality of the drive. When you accelerate, brake and take a curve you will feel more confident and connected with the car. And if something happens, you may get to walk away scratch free.
Back in the mid 1970s when I turned 16 and got my 1970 Electra to drive, I had been through driver's ed and knew that it made perfect sense to buckle up but for a kid in the day it wasn't cool to be seen wearing a seat belt. One night mainly out of curiosity I decided to try out those old style separate lap and shoulder belts. After driving around that night, fairly aggressively I might add, I was blow away with how much better the car drove, handled and overall performed. A better driving experience and added safety, even a 16 year old thought buckling up was a no brainer. LOL, none of my friends seemed to get the message and I was usually the only one in the car with the belts buckled.
A lot of those Classic Cars don’t have seatbelts my truck doesn’t have seatbelts I don’t plan on putting seatbelts in it either I had a 67 mustang that only had front seat belt, There is a argument whether or not they actually save lives I know a guy who wasn’t wearing his seatbelt The paramedics said if he was wearing his seatbelt he would’ve been killed. But you’re right I need to work on wearing my seatbelt
@@What.its.like. There is always going to be that one odd crash that a seat belt may or not have helped someone but in general you are better off being buckled up. I am a bit iffy on lap belts alone doing much more that just keeping you from being ejected. In the Lincolns you have driven they had shoulder belts and you should have worn them in conjunction with your lap belt. Is there a number I can call you? I do have a request for a review.
