If I had, say, a month to live, I'd spend all that time watching '80s movies, cartoons and TV shows and listening to '80s music. I could die happy knowing I I had relived history's greatest decade.
Compared to the less commercialized early 80's, and then also compared to the 90's, I agree, '85 to '89 was great. (Maybe it's just because I was the target age range for "action cartoon toys" during those years - I turned 9 years old in 1985).
Great 80's "cheesy" post... I was a tad "old" for this programming... I was 19 years old and was soon working my first steady job in March of that year and would turn 20 later in the fall... Oh how I miss the 80's...🥺
I've always wondered what it would've been like to have been a teenager in the 80's (turning 12 or 13 or 14 years old in 1980 to 1981), compared to being a kid in the 80's (turning 3 or 4 or 5 years old in 1980 or 1981, as was the case with me). Being more into MTV then into Transformers.
I grew up in the area, so I don't doubt I saw all this when it originally aired! obligatory shout-outs to GI JOE, Transformers, He-Man and even M.U.S.C.L.E.
Loved these ads, especially the ads for the G.I. Joe action figures and vehicles. The 1980s had a lot of TV series and the accompanying toy lines that came with them.
Yup, that's him, all right! He also played Cousin Itt in the Addams Family movies and later reprised his role as Isaac in Children of the Corn 666: Isaac's Return.
Lucky Charms- Lucky's eyes in the pinball machine at 1:50 look like nightmare fuel. So Soft My Little Pony- I remember toys having a velvet coating like these ones do. After a long time of petting the soft surface, the velvet coating shedded off the toys like how a dog or a cat sheds.
As KCOP is a Los Angeles affiliate, I don't think the LA area would have been eager to get Super Bowl XX pins won by the Chicago Bears who shut out the Rams in the playoffs.
I remember getting pay-per-view channels in ‘88, where Request was the main channel and Request 2 was for lesser known movies. I’m placing bets this was on Request 2.
SHINE ON LEON NEON! Ok that's 35 years since I last saw or heard that but that's all I was able to remember from that! I loved the Wacky Wallwakers but once they got full of dirt and hair they stopped doing their thing!
Eliminators-wouldve loved to see a follow-up to this..R.I.P Andrew Prine("This is all some kinda weird science-fiction thing right??") and Roy Dotrice G.I. JOE Tomax and Xamot-these two have yet to make their live-action debut, could cast the Rayment twins from The Matrix Reloaded Cheerios-Charlie needs to challenge Franklin to a surfing rematch Real Baby-possible M3GAN precursor? 😱 Masters Of The Universe Stonedar and Rokkon-He-Man would later discover that these two were actually members of a race called "Rock Lords"at war with "GoBots" Fruit Corners Fruit Bars-Is that Isaac from Children Of The Corn..? Hopefully all those people werent sacrificed to He Who Walks Behind The Rows 🤣
In addition to the film Eliminators, Andrew Prine also played Steven in the original V miniseries and The Final Battle. Plus, I would love to see the Elliminators be another franchise series of movies
@@rstyeast73 Andrew, who passed away not too long ago, also played villains in episodes of Matt Houston and ST: TNG. He could be a scary guy. Great actor.
S'Mores Crunch was the bomb. Pac-Man cereal was the offspring of Kix & Luck Charms and it was delicious as well. Since they replaced many oat based cereals with corn they will never taste as good as they did once upon a time.
Gotta say it must have been a letdown to get a toothbrush in your Happy Meal back in the day. Also I've watched Eliminators. It's everything the TV spot here implies.
The later ads say that it doesn't taste like apples, not that it doesn't contain apples. The cereal is made using apple juice concentrate and dried apples.
Kids were the ones mainly watching these cartoons and toys and cereal are pretty much the only thing that children might have an influence in purchasing. What's a better alternative, endless commercials for prescription medicine, lawyers and insurance?
Nothing beats this era

I don’t care what anyone says. Between 85-88’ where the best times to be be a kid and the best holidays hands down

I wasn't born in 80's but I swear these were way better than commercials today
This was the prime of GI Joe. They were still advertising the popular 1985 Joes before the 1986 line would start hitting stores in the Spring.
9:47 - Wow, I bet every kid was thrilled to find a sponge in their Happy Meal box...
Great 80's "cheesy" post...

The good ole days! What a time to be a kid! Iam 47 now

I have admit. The kids commercials from mid to late 80s are my favorite. I love these.
This is a 19-minute time capsule of my 5th grade experience. Thank you...
Damn! My month and year, January 1986... Them days gone forever. Thank you for the memories !
My older brothers were twins, so when we were into G.I. Joe, I would call them Tomax and Xamot.
Oh yeah, Transformers bumpers. That's the good stuff.
Also "Wow! Whoppers candy!" said no kid ever.
1:20 - "Cobra's got the formula!" I guess Tony the Tiger wasn't able to hold onto the secret formula for Frosted Flakes after all...
28 looks like John Franklin the kid who played Issac in Children of The Corn.
Yup, that's him, all right! He also played Cousin Itt in the Addams Family movies and later reprised his role as Isaac in Children of the Corn 666: Isaac's Return.
MUSCLE was so good, he had a son who would sing his favorite food song in every episode. The Kinnikuman legacy is but a strange one.
Back when they packed actual candy inside of cereal boxes for breakfast
Lucky Charms- Lucky's eyes in the pinball machine at 1:50 look like nightmare fuel.
So Soft My Little Pony- I remember toys having a velvet coating like these ones do. After a long time of petting the soft surface, the velvet coating shedded off the toys like how a dog or a cat sheds.
10:11 "It's a honey of an O, brother!"
These are awesome! I had the Bridge Layer!
As KCOP is a Los Angeles affiliate, I don't think the LA area would have been eager to get Super Bowl XX pins won by the Chicago Bears who shut out the Rams in the playoffs.
Eliminators looks like it was written and conceived by a 10-year-old...which is why I want to see it now.
I remember getting pay-per-view channels in ‘88, where Request was the main channel and Request 2 was for lesser known movies. I’m placing bets this was on Request 2.
I think it might have been aimed for kids.
Pac Man still popular in 86?
Sounds like John Erwin doing the voice over for the He Man at Universal Studios commercial
Whatcha gonna do when the 24 inch pythons, Hulkamania, and Buzzamania runs wild on you and your breakfast!
SHINE ON LEON NEON! Ok that's 35 years since I last saw or heard that but that's all I was able to remember from that!

Real Baby-possible M3GAN precursor? 😱
Masters Of The Universe Stonedar and Rokkon-He-Man would later discover that these two were actually members of a race called "Rock Lords"at war with "GoBots"
Fruit Corners Fruit Bars-Is that Isaac from Children Of The Corn..? Hopefully all those people werent sacrificed to He Who Walks Behind The Rows 🤣

You know, if you remove one of the "k's" from Rokkon, you get something very different (and much cuter).
I think Lyle Alzado was the one who beat the crap out of Ernest in Ernest Goes to Camp.
Yup! He also played the killer in a slasher flick called Destroyer, with Anthony Perkins and Deborah Foreman (of Valley Girl and Real Genius fame).
S'Mores Crunch was the bomb. Pac-Man cereal was the offspring of Kix & Luck Charms and it was delicious as well. Since they replaced many oat based cereals with corn they will never taste as good as they did once upon a time.

I’m confused, I thought they admitted in future commercials that Apple Jacks wasn’t made with real apples.
The later ads say that it doesn't taste like apples, not that it doesn't contain apples. The cereal is made using apple juice concentrate and dried apples.
Hulk Hogan doesn't eat honey and nuts...
Steroids and cocaine are a different story...
😂
Maybe the government was right back then. How many commercials directed at kids are on this thing?
