Muppet Family Christmas - My favorite Muppet Special ever. It was just so amazing to 10-year-old me to see Muppet characters from the different franchises (Muppet Show, Sesame Street, and Fraggle Rock) interacting with each other. I especially love how they made the Sesame Street characters seem like weirdos outside of their own universe, since they are obsessed with letters and numbers, and no one really understands why.
I found it on UA-cam and watched it for the first time as an adult and was just amazed thinking about how much work it would have taken to put that all together, basically having every single Muppet performer in one place.
19. Lady And The Tramp On VHS- Hearing the kids in this commercial try to sing along with the songs from this movie is so cute, it puts a smile on my face every time. I used to sing along to movie songs like that myself when I was a kid, too.
I have this special on VHS… found it at the thrift store years ago for dirt cheap (my recording is from WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh).
on the tapes, well at least enough of em lasted long enough to give you youtube folks the ability to preserve these ads before they're lost forever?! (definitely a big thing for me lately is preserving stuff like this)
but yeah sign me up for that dolly special... not normally into country music but would happily make an exception for her.
2:27 - Pinocchio and the Emperor of the Night. A largely forgotten attempt by Filmation Animation Studio (Fat Albert, He-Man) to break into theatrical films. Disney threatened to sue the studio, as it was initially billed as an unofficial sequel to the animated film. All the character designs and script had to be approved by Disney to make sure they weren't too similar to the original. The film was a flop, and despite plans for more films, only one other (Happily Ever After, a sequel to Snow White) came out, and flopped as well. Who knew that 35 years later, we'd get three Pinocchio movies in one year.
7:11 - "The comic movie hit of the season!" I guess there's a reason why Gary Owens (the announcer) wasn't a film critic or a prophet...
9:47 - Those puppets in the Dolly special are what happens when you're too cheap to get Henson. You get these freaks instead...
0:28-0:34 Balki was funny that was clever
I remember most of these commercials
I was 10 Christmas 1987
Oh, I loved this Christmas special! I have this on tape! 🎄😍
WHAT??? NO BALKI TONIGHT??? I was looking forward to more of his antics. But as for Head of the Class, not a fan. Especially that fat guy. He seems awfully suspect to me. I don't know why, but I have a hunch even if it takes me nearly 30 or so years to figure it out. But still, Balki is the greatest.
No Perfect Strangers tonight..? (agrees with Balki)
At least the Head Of The Class crew gets to watch A Muppet Christmas Carol..
Not Quite Human-was filmed here in Arizona
The Three Kings-no stealing of gold
Sledge Hammer-must've been exposed to LSD during a drug raid
Full House-R.I.P Bob Saget
Ah, Sledge Hammer! Now I need to find my DVD!
Merry Christmas 80's CV. Hope you're in a warm place!😀
7:20 "Or will Bill Cosby save the day?" I doubt it...
Merry Christmas from me to you! 🎄
“The Three Kings” the second movie in 1987 to star Stan Shaw and Ashley Bank. First being “The Monster Squad”
Muppet Family Christmas - the first crossover with Sesame Street and Muppets. They did it before Avengers!
Strange how you cannot find this on Disney+ as its a Disney Franchise and the best Muppets Christmas movie IMO. Oh well its on YT.
The issues involving putting it on Disney+ probably have mostly to do with rights/royalty issues for many of the Christmas songs used in the special. Also, Disney now owns the Muppets but not Sesame Street or Fraggle Rock, which could further complicate things.
Kinda surreal seeing a Full House promo here. Not really a show I associate with the 80s.
It premiered in the fall of 1987.
Some cringe sterotypes in the Full House promo! Plus the first ads I ever saw for SHAKLEE. That stuff was all over in the 80s!
