National pride is at stake as British engineering takes on the might of the Italians and Germans in today’s drag race.
The latest car from Woking, the McLaren Artura, is making its drag race debut here. Powered by an all-new 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 linked up to an electric motor, the Artura produces 680hp and 800Nm. That makes it the most powerful here, though its challengers are no strangers to a competitive carwow drag race.
Right next to the Arutra is the Lamborghini Huracan Performante. Now a stalwart of the supercar world, its 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 kicks out 640hp and 600Nm. Though down on the McLaren for power, it utilises an all-wheel-drive system - unlike the rear-wheel-drive Brit - so grip could be in its favour.
Adding more fuel to the first is the king of launching, the Porsche 911 Turbo S. Its 3.8-litre twin-turbo flat-six produces 650hp and 800Nm and, if you’re familiar with these parts, you know it’s going to have no trouble putting it down.
Quite the line-up, then. Which of these supercars will fly its country’s flag highest?

It's been a decade now. Whoever Porsche assigned to develop the Turbo S AWD launch system are automotive legends.
I had the opportunity to work for Porsche in Germany years ago. When the 996 Turbo was launched, many within Porsche called it "Die Sau" = "The sow" because the 4WD made it so heavy and made the steering sluggish. I got to drive the the next generation 997 Turbo ("only" 480hp and 620Nm) and it was breathtaking. Nobody made fun of that version. Talking to the Weissach engineers - they only want to make their sports cars fast on the road & track, no unnecessary bells & whistles. Typical German 😉
A decade? This is a 992. Car came out in like 2020 lmfao.

The 911 Turbo has been the acceleration king for so long (for non-electric) that it's mythical now and should get a lifetime award.
Maybe the 0-60 king but absolutely not the acceleration king, its never had that title. All of the McLaren's accelerate far harder when on a decent surface. The 720/765LT pass the Porsche Turbo like it's broken down. The Turbo gets away from the start extremely well thanks to AWD and the engine placement but after the start, it becomes a sitting duck for far faster cars. I still love the Turbo more than the other super cars but lets be real, once the launch is done comparatively in it's class it's not actually very fast.

I also searched for this comment 🤣 .. But it is assumed that in the brake test, the gear should not be used to reduce the speed and must rely on the power of the brakes only .. Sam is not worthy of winning in this case and Porsche leads it 👌
Hi everyone Sam here, so I have gotten a few messages and comments on this!! First of all these cars are fundamentally automatics so whether I used the paddles or not the ECU would have gone down the gears in relation to wheel speed and engine revs. I just do it as a matter of habit but there is no real need for a brake test.
As for the engine braking part… I am hitting the peddle pretty much as hard as it will take but in most road cars ABS will kick in anywhere from 60-100 BAR.
We are braking from 100mph-0mph in a short distance. Meaning the full retardation falls on the brakes and mainly the front as the rear of the car is fundamentally in the air at that stage, this means that if you are in a rear wheel drive car that there is next no engine braking and in a four wheel drive like the Lambo with a power split front to back favouring the rear again next to none.
No if the automatics didn’t go down the gears on a race track or corner entry, this cause the car to push on a little on brake release and potentially induce some under-steer, but that’s not the same as 100-0..
The topic goes on with rev matching ie.. heel and toe. But that’s in manual cars and is done to reduce locking of the driving axel under braking.
The subject goes on but rest assured it’s not cheating and just force of habit from an old driver 👍
@@Sammaherloughnan Hey Sam, thanks for the comment! Yes that’s true, as most of the car’s load is on the front wheels when braking. Downshifting in the lambo won’t really have much affect on the front wheels as I’m guessing it sends all (or most) of its power to the rear wheels unless it needs front end grip. Just identified it as being more of a pro level of driving!😎

That Porsche with 911 HUL numberplates must be the most used car in automotive history. I've seen it doing hundrets of lauches in the last 4 years and it works like brand new. Incredible engineering.
It's also has a huge amount of maintenance to be fair. Porsche prep these press cars and keep them in amazing shape.

For the brake test, I think Lambo's downshifting while braking adds up a significant difference which I've never seen someone else doing it on carwow videos that I've watched before.

Every video I watch with a 911 Turbo S in it, this car wins. Honestly, it feels like the car is actually a living organism that adapts to each race.
Racing on a narrower runway than usual really puts the speed in context. I think this looks wayyyy better.

Sam was downshifting in the brake test which gave him some advantage, and I think he pressed the pedal a tad early as well.. anyways, that 992 Turbo S is still the benchmark for me.. don't know how Porsche will improve this in the facelift 😀

No matter how much faster the rest of the cars get, Lamborghinis always sound the best, for a N/A V10 that lambo actually did a very good job at keeping up with a hybrid.

Huracan Performante OBVIOUSLY was the most exotic and desirable car, among the three cars of this video. It is also OBVIOUSLY also the fastest in the racetrack. N/A V10 engine sound is also an important bonus!
@@MV-yp8ilNope. You are very wrong . Audi borrowed the Gallardo engine from Lamborghini, and put it in Audi RS . And the engine of the Hurracan is a reworked engine from Gallardo. Lamborghini has the gearbox from Audi.

yes and its very surprising to see it keep up with latest hybrid cars, that mclaren should be toasting it but the huracan can keep up with its N/A V10, crazy amount of engineering needed to get that type of performance.

It does not matter. The brakes on all those cars can easily lock up the wheels, theyre always at the ABS threshold.

Perfomante is the best and most beautiful Huracan. Specially the forged carbon and Italian flag at the side makes it look more sexy. The grey colour looks spectacular on that Lambo
