Amazing! Thank you so much Jack! Following your previous video/videos I got the 83mm SSP MP burrs for my DF83. Still seasoning them. I've had really tasty cups already on pourover but on espresso I haven't had much success, although I am blaming the coffee! (I've only gone through two 250g bags)
Overall happy with the purchase... It's the chase to the Godshot that makes this hobby so much fun! Need a Decent machine now haha
@@gero77 thank you very much for watching and good luck with your espresso. New Decent is coming next year if you have spare 5k for it. I also heard some rumours about new “smart” machine arriving this year.
@@mycoffeeshow111 I don't think I'll ever spend this much on a machine. However, another smart choice sounds amazing! The more choice the better!
Jack! The DF83V is VERY NICE!!!! So far very happy! The one thing that is odd is if I tighten the carrier cap, the adjustment dial gets stuck, so I need to back up a little. This changes the sticker arrow position. it is unknown when it should be stopped so the distance is uniform when I open, clean close, and adjust. So I tighten until it is not easy to adjust, but very possible. Not huge, but there is some thought needed for this to be consistent for V2 solution. Wondering what you think?
@@philindeblanc Thx for sharing! I love mine. Have you seen my initial review? I think I mentioned something about that. I’m sure they will make it even better for next version but it is still selling well as it is so we might need to wait.
@@mycoffeeshow111 I probably saw your initial review at least once, lol. Cheers! FYI, it might be sooner, as I notice the price is lower from some sources.
@@philindeblanc I haven’t heard any rumours yet but who knows.
Good info. Thanks!☕️
@@JMWexperience thank you for watching!
Where do you get this unique accent from Jack?!!
Not sure really, but my English teacher was mr Borat 😛
@@mycoffeeshow111 You are the first person I "meet" from Kazakistan? :-)
@@philindeblanc originally from Poland, but have lived in London for the last 20years. Still can’t fix the accent 😛
@@mycoffeeshow111 Nothing to fix! Geen Dobre!
@@philindeblanc hahaha. Well done
Great review, interesting when you compare with kafatek 98 mm
@@saulocafe thx for watching. I am considering selling Kafatek. Having both DF83v and DF64 is enough for most of the time.
Is the 83 mm MP in the df83V your favorite pour over set up or do you prefer something else that is mich more pricey?
@@JuliusSP1 I would say yes, 83mm MP can be awesome . I haven’t tried 83mm brew burrs or any bigger burrs dedicated for pour overs so I reserve the right to change my mind in the future.
Great video Jack. When you say sharp it’s not harsh, right? Does sharp mean astringent?
@@eric2005 thx for watching. It can be although the way I see it it is also about separation of notes and notes being very noticeable. It can be a positive or negative thing.
I think my ssp MP burrs in 64mm have mellowed out over the years maybe they're finally seasoned or my alignment is just right or just wrong enough for it to be improved. 😮
I wonder if the auger / pre breaker is what makes the difference in your tests or the Burr size. But I'm leaning towards it being the burr size or alignment maybe happened to be better on your df83.
I didn't think I noticed an improvement using the auger / pre beaker Zerno Z1 with blind ssp MP burrs over the P64 with Regular MP burrs.
I found feed rate makes more of an impact than rpm. Now they have a super slow feeder auger for the Zerno Z1 which I haven't tried.
The problem with ssp burrs as you go up in size is that the burr price jumps even higher!
@@BensCoffeeRants thx for sharing your thoughts. Very useful info about the auger. I was thinking alot about it but I can only work with what I have.
I have Df 64 gen 2 but with DLC burr it's so great I can't go back to my C2 hand grinder 😂
@@KHALED112 DF64 gen 2 is a really solid grinder. How is the retention? I heard that DLC burrs hold more coffee in.
@@mycoffeeshow111 it’s almost 0 with bellows I use very light roast coffee sometimes medium for milk drinks and it’s very low retention maybe it depends on where you’re living not the burr 👍🏼
My DF64 Gen 2 with DLC burrs is okey but not perfect. I usually have Medium-Dark roast beans. Which burrs would you recommend? I mainly use drink espresso. I also have MHW R3 manual hand grinder i use it for filter.
@@aRk0_aus well, standard burrs should be ok for med/dark. I haven’t tried 64HU- they could be good. My 64mm cast ls are terrible for espresso but I heard the new version might be better.
I wish I had seen this video a few months ago...or at least Jack, I wish you made it way before. At about10min in the video you mention to run the shots faster on the DF64. Well, its the SAME on my Eureka 54mm. Medium roast great coffees with tighter shots are bitter. I watched a bunch of videos, and I think maybe 1 other hinted on this, but I thought I was doing something wrong. Because years back when I was getting some AMAZING shots we were still using espresso roast darker beans and tight shots worked great.
So I wasted maybe 3--400$ in coffee. I have actually taken some videos, and was thinking of sharing on YT. If your basket takes 19-22 or so grams, ease up on the grind and let those go through faster, maybe 17sec-25 is a top time or less. I was also following the 17-18gram "standard" everyone is using, and this too is NOT great for these medium roasts. I found 19-22g is more complex and relaxed flavors in combo with a faster shot.
@@philindeblanc thx for sharing your thoughts! I usually go for 18g of coffee, mostly because I already spend too much on it and want to save some money. Maybe I should try more 20g shots. The space between shower screen and puck can also influence the results. More space- more clarity, less space-more body.
@@mycoffeeshow111 If I do 18g or less, I use the basket my machine came with. If its more than 18g, I use the IMS 18-222g basket. I also use a .8mm puck screen. My machine has a screw that sticks out of the show screen, so it often gets contact with the screen. But always I have a little water on top of my puck. The coffee puck looks and feels nice, firm, but water on top. It maybe that my 3 way valve needs cleaning, or my machine just operates this way.
@@philindeblanc thx for all the info! Have you tried any of those new fancy baskets?
Nice comparison. Another UA-camr mentioned SSP Brew burr is better than MP for pour over. Maybe future video? When you said you don't like bitter, you meant over extracted bitter or dark chocolate note as well?
@@jimdaikh9381 thx for watching. Yes, I watched his video as well. I am not planning to spend any more money on this hobby (hopefully) but if SSP ever wants to send me some burrs I would love to test them.
I prefer fruity notes in my cup but sweet bitterness I can tolerate as well.
@@mycoffeeshow111 I might get the ssp brew burrs and pop em in my Ode or maybe p64 if I think it will do espresso too heh. Not sure whether I should go for silver knight or redspeed. Silver apparently has less fines so maybe that's ideal for pour over but then probably no chance of espresso with them.
@@BensCoffeeRants please let me know how you like them. I am not spending any more money unless I find a very good deal.
1st comment 😁..thks for this comparison..i`m interested in the 64mm MU burrs because apparently its the only SSP burrs that can fit Eureka Oro and I was wondering how they perform for espresso.
@@mohdnizar6342 Thx for watching. MP burrs can be tricky but can also be great for modern espresso. If that is what you enjoy you should try them.
see you wanna to sell the flat max , ppl say that it is the best one for light roast expresso , if she is not you taste , which grinder you are using for light / medium light roast espresso?
@@AnskarKong flat max is great. I haven’t tried all high end grinders but it is my favourite. I am just thinking that I possibly (definitely) spend too much on this hobby and it is a time to get some money back.
@@mycoffeeshow111 cool ! Did your order 01 ?
@@AnskarKong do you think I should?
@@mycoffeeshow111 I think they should send your one free for review ! Love your show
@@AnskarKong thanks. I wouldn’t mind that at all 😛
I am using SSP MP in my DF64v for light medium roast espresso. Was thinking of upgrading to a 98 grinder, what is your experience with flat max compared to ssp mp and what burrs do you use?
@@Val_Smith you just gave me an idea for another video 😁 I don’t think I have ever compared them b4. I have Shurikone SW burrs in my Kafatek and on average I get more depth vs DF83v so I assume it would be even more obvious vs DF64 but at this point I am just speculating.
@@mycoffeeshow111 would be interesting. Thinking of getting ultra grinder from zhang or mischief.
@@Val_Smith one of my friends has MC5 from Mischief and he likes it but I would rather buy the real one.
@@mycoffeeshow111 I can't order from USA. I was thinking about MC5 but the burrs are diffrent from suricones. Did you try the coffee from it yourself?
@@Val_Smith I had the original MC5 and it was great. I have never tried any Mischief grinders myself.
So bigger is better as always 😅
@@7Miralas looks like it does. Obviously df83v is not just a bigger version of df64, but a completely different grinder which can influence overall results.
