I don't have a pressure meter but what I do is start the pull with fair resistance and ease off as the puck deteriorates, trying to keep the flow looking steady.

I'm curious whether the bottom type really makes that much of a difference I think as long as flow rates due to coffee / grinder / grind size are fast enough flowing that there's not an extended immersion type steeping then results would be pretty similar. Testing with the Plastic more open bottom B75 vs Stainless steel Kalita Wave I think they are actually pretty similar but I noticed the brew temp is usually hotter on the Kalita so that makes it extract more if using the same temp water and makes it harder to compare.

I noticed some differences in the time of brewing on Orea. Here, the difference not that big. In terms of taste , one bottom is noticeable different here, but remaining 2 not so much.

i've been "exploring" different WDT tools for a while, and every now and then i switch between regular "Flic" WDT tool (from Nanofoamer), 3d printed Spirographic tool (bought from Etsy), and MHW version of the blind shaker. I honestly can't tell the difference in taste, but for me the workflow is much quicker with the "regular" WDT: using MHW blind shaker you have to do some manual distribution after shaking the grounds into the basket , as (you probably know) when it lays inside the basket it creates a wide circle - so double the work (not to mention I also use a funnel to keep things less messy). but..the shaking bit is kinda fun. the spirographic tool requires me to use the funnel as well so I haven't been using it much lately. I wonder what's your current favorite..?

@@mycoffeeshow111 About RDT is something I usually do, not always, but 1 spray is part of my workflow when I grind for espresso. It seems as if the chrome coating comes off on some areas in the first place for no reason, and that's where the rust starts to grow on the steel underneath. That shouldn't happen indeed, even the manual itself says you can use RDT as long as you do it in an external container before adding the beans to the grinder. It is probably a good grinder with cheap bearings, and it's sad because I was very happy with how it was working..

Great video, Jack! how much finer are you having to go to get the same sort of extraction compared to a "normal" basket? If you are comparing like for like I presume your HE flow rate would be a lot higher and hence needing to go a lot finer to get the same sort of output?

Thank you for being one of the few video reviewers of the new Orea V4 wide and the negotiator. You mentioned that it had slightly more body than V3. I do not have a flat bottomed brewer, but I want to get one that gives good, chocolate smooth body and some nice acidity (depending on the coffee). Is this a good choice for that, or would you recommend another?

Hi Jack, hope you are doing well! Can you do a video or reply back on the consistency of the DF83v (and perhaps compare to the Max 2 on consistency too)? The reason I ask is because I've pulled many shots on the DF83v and it varies widely, from 27 seconds to 36 seconds! Using 19g in 38g out. Stock DLC espresso burrs. Idk if I should return my DF or what.

Hi, tbh I haven’t noticed that big variations on my DF83V but even with Max2 not every shot is precisely the same. Do you weigh coffee after each grinding? Sometimes retention can be an issue. It that case try rdt, sometimes it helps. Another thing would be an inconsistent puck prep. What espresso machine do you use? Have you tried it with different grinders?

@@mycoffeeshow111 Thanks. I like my new Mazzer soooo much, it has everything I wanted from single dose grinder - workflow, taste (less bitterness than Eureka), retention...I clensed my Eureka every third weeek (2-3 espressos daily) and there was allways coffee inside (and I have blower and tilt base from Etsy), I had to do burr alignment .... And now Philos - I ran 2 kg of cheap coffee through it (burrs seasoning - and yes I know that Mazzer says that burrs are already seasoned) and when I opened the grinder, there was almost no coffee inside, it was so clean. It has a little bit vibration, but not too much. Again - I am sooo happy that I pulled the trigger and bought it, it will be my final grinder. And concerning baskets: have you ever tried IMS big bang baskets? Another awesome video! Thank you for the information and comparison between the burrs. Ive got a DF83 v1 and I've been thinking about upgrading to SSP MP for a while as I'm not enjoying the standard burrs. I enjoy the funky, fruity coffees and texture isn't as important to me. The problem is that I've got a GCP and without a gaggiuino or a pid kit, temperature surfing gives such inconsistent results between cups that I've stopped myself from buying the SSP burrs, in favour of buying a more thermally stable machine.
