    Another awesome video! Thank you for the information and comparison between the burrs. Ive got a DF83 v1 and I've been thinking about upgrading to SSP MP for a while as I'm not enjoying the standard burrs.
    I enjoy the funky, fruity coffees and texture isn't as important to me. The problem is that I've got a GCP and without a gaggiuino or a pid kit, temperature surfing gives such inconsistent results between cups that I've stopped myself from buying the SSP burrs, in favour of buying a more thermally stable machine.
    Thanks again for the video Jack. Your information is fantastic but i can't say I'm still sure on what to upgrade first 😂

      I'm at the moment between the Decent or go for something in between till I'm sure; something like the BDB or the Argos, purely based on their thermal stability claims.

    Hi bro thanks for the comparison, I love you videos by the way. do not get discouraged and keep up the good work. you never know when the youtube's algorithm kicks in. I like your channel because it is straight and honest no fluff or silly music advertising gadgets that do not add value. I have the de1 pro and niche duo with ssp hu and lab sweet in the burrs carrier and have mp waiting for a burrs carrier when I can find one. I love you can switch burrs so easily in this grinder. with the HU I taste acidity that is tamed compared to stock burr and when switching to the lab sweet you can taste the funky mellow notes. after 2000 shots, I can tell a good espresso from bad one but my taste buds are not developed enough yet to get all the notes youtubers get. maybe 20 out of 2k shots where I could taste berries and maple syrup. I now have high flow baskets and might be over extracting even when shot times are lowered to 16 seconds according to difluid r2.

      Thx for watching and your support.Maybe you are right. Maybe I shouldn’t over editing my videos and concentrate on the subject.
      I sometimes struggle to get all the flavour notes myself. What I do then is to concentrate on the basics- thickness, texture, sweetness-sourness-bitterness and balance or lack of it.
      The problem with my Niche is that the screws stuck and it is very difficult to undo them.

    I’m sorry your channel is growing slowly. Please know your effort and information is very much appreciated. Too few are comparing and sharing their findings when it comes to espresso and filter coffee and the information you provide can help us understand where we should spend our $$ on equipment or not. It was one off comparison but Hoon likened espresso from cast 64mm to 83mm hu that latter had think more body but similar overall to espresso from 64mm when hot then 64mm cast sweeter than hu once cooled and body from hu faded. I wonder if cast or mp burr are easier to dial in on the duo since df83v adjusts maybe little less precision-needs burr carrier and adj ring like df64v so smoother and more even.

    • @mycoffeeshow111
      @mycoffeeshow111  25 днів тому

      Thx for your support. I have 64mm cast and they are ok for pour overs but not for espresso. They give very thin shots and it is very difficult to dial in. Maybe he has different version of them. 83HU are difficult to describe. They are better than standard burrs but I struggle to explain exactly how. Maybe I would change my mind if I kept them for longer and played with different rpm.

    Jack, you're the best! I realised you mentioned that you didn't want to clean the burrs too much, to avoid removing the patina. May I ask you a question about this? I just received my new DF83V. What should be the cleaning process of my grinder look like? I thought I had to remove the burrs periodically and brush the insides and the burrs a bit... but if that would remove the patina and affect negatively the flavour, then I rather not do it.
    Thanks a lot for your videos. Especially for DF83V owners, you're godsend!

    • @mycoffeeshow111
      @mycoffeeshow111  25 днів тому +1

      Thx for watching. Different people would have different ways of cleaning the burrs. I just use a brush. Definitely would not recommend to wash them. I’m not sure how burrs seasoning works but some say that during this process you cover burrs with coffee oils. So the last thing you want would be to remove them while cleaning. I was mostly thinking about Cast burrs. If you look closely, you will notice coffee dust on them. Difficult to remove.

      Thx for watching. As I said, ssp mp would give you the best pour over if you like sharper and crispier notes. I would say go for brew burrs first, play with them. They will need some seasoning. After a month or two, if you feel like you are missing something, go for ssp. Both cast and mp are great.

  • @QuanayLaiLa
    @QuanayLaiLa 21 день тому

    I realize that MP and LS actually produce more fines and lower uniformity, which is nice for brewing light roast coffee. A member in my coffee group tell me that if the grinder create high uniform ground your coffee should taste flat and boring. I dont know but fines may be clog our filter paper but sometimes also gud for flavor, they also produce High Uniformity version but i think it is better for espresso.
    My C40 MK4 produce higher uniformity ground than K-Ultra but I just sold C40 because I felt that K-Ultra give me more complexity than C40 (idk but maybe you feel different)

    I really enjoy the Mazzer espresso burrs in the Niche Duo. Where would they fall in this comparison? I'm assuming they're most similar to the DLC espresso burrs.

      Well, if you like Mazzer burrs, stick with them. Personally I am not a fan. For pour overs I had some decent results sometimes but for espresso I would often choose DLC over mazzer . If you want to upgrade to ssp , Cast would suit you best.

    For the Cast burrs, did you notice any more sweetness vs the other two? I'm surprised at the grind speed differences, in 64mm world I think the MP are the slowest, surprised the cast burrs are even slower here.

    • @mycoffeeshow111
      @mycoffeeshow111  25 днів тому

      The thing with speed is not that straight forward. Remember that LS produce more fines so you grind much coarser for the same time of extraction. Which of course affects the grinding time. For MP on the other hand I had to grind at very low settings (5 vs 26 for LS).
      As for taste, sometimes I do notice sweetness and less sharpness , possibly because of more fines but maybe it is psychosomatic.

  • @xj9jenny8
    @xj9jenny8 25 днів тому

    Hi Jack. I struggle with the Lab Sweet burr on df83. Not sure what's causing the issue, but I grind with lots of fines and can't really make good filter coffee. What do you think? Have you tested LS on df83 (no V)

    • @mycoffeeshow111
      @mycoffeeshow111  25 днів тому

      Hi, I got LS after I sold DF83. There might be 2 problems here. First, u need to season them well. The guy I bought them from also didn’t like them but he only used them for a short time.
      Second is RPM of your grinder. What I forgot to mention in the video, I went for 600rpm for pour over and I would go even lower for cast burrs if aiming for clarity. Whatever you do, they will never give you crisp cups like MP but can grind for a very delicious one for sure.

    How narrow is espresso range on the ssp mp for you? I heard all about how hard it is to dial in ssp mp but I had no problem

    • @mycoffeeshow111
      @mycoffeeshow111  26 днів тому

      Well, all depends on coffee, profile and basket. I put all the numbers in the video. For example, standard burrs I almost immediately hit the right spot and end up on setting 16. With MP, it was running like water until I hit nr5. At 8 was still very very fast. With this coffee I would say anything between 4.5-6 would work.

    Hi Jack, hope you are doing well! Can you do a video or reply back on the consistency of the DF83v (and perhaps compare to the Max 2 on consistency too)? The reason I ask is because I've pulled many shots on the DF83v and it varies widely, from 27 seconds to 36 seconds! Using 19g in 38g out. Stock DLC espresso burrs. Idk if I should return my DF or what.

      Hi, tbh I haven’t noticed that big variations on my DF83V but even with Max2 not every shot is precisely the same. Do you weigh coffee after each grinding? Sometimes retention can be an issue. It that case try rdt, sometimes it helps. Another thing would be an inconsistent puck prep. What espresso machine do you use? Have you tried it with different grinders?

      I'm using a Lelit Bianca. RDT and WDT. Retention is low because I weigh pre and post grind. I'm going go collect more data and see how it goes.

      Hi! I ran about 10lbs of really cheap beans through the DF83v. Today I pulled 10 shots using Costco Kirkland Signature Espresso Beans (cheap but good enough for an experiment).
      WDT and RDT. Normcore distribution tool, v4 tamper, and stainless steel mesh. Stock IMS basket from the Bianca, set to 95 deg celsius. Terrible results. Grind size stayed at 26, 800 rpm. Not sure what to do. Still within return period. I did align the burrs before seasoning, was perfect but better than stock. Any chance you can run tbis same experiment within a couple days?
