Thanks to you my move to PC gaming from console was done with ease. From the Razer Basilisk v2, HIFIMAN headphones, and this Modmic I'm sitting pretty and loving it. Thank you for these videos!!
Great review, thanks. Just tripped over with BD DT1990 cable around my ankle, tearing an AudioQuest Dragonfly Black out of the back of my rear IO. Dragonfly Black's USB plug a write off. You have inspired me to take a look at my overall sound setup and thanks for the DT1990 Pro heads up, they are fine Headphones. With stock shortages hitting HiFi equipment, which surprised me after being a bit polarised towards the PC environment I looked at Shiit DACs and Amps, but settled for the Audiolab 8300 series amplifier and CD DAC, trying out some Ecosse Reference XLRs and some mains conditioning. I have been looking at high end USB, Chord Company Epic and speaker cable by Tellurium Q, all very interesting. I love your reviews, never anything other than quality thank you.
I bought one of these and they arrived Monday. So far I am liking them I put them on my Sony 1000XM2 headphones. I like using one set of headphones for everything so this let me add a quality mic to my most used cans while staying completely wireless. The documentation says you can install them either side just the charging port is better if on the right. I put it on the left side and remove it to charge anyway.
I think the unidirectional mode sounds more true to your voice than the supposedly better omnidirectional mode. That modmic 5 sounds incredible for you in particular, with how deep your voice is.
Bought this tried it.. returned it. The mic quality is nothing compared to the wired versions of it. I saw another video with a rep from Antlion, and they said they sourced a new mic for this specific wireless version... really should of just crammed the same mic in this instead it may have sounded great.
Great video as I’m looking for a mic to use with the Meze 99 Classics. This was a well put together video. Also, love the Deadpool bust! Deadpool for life!
I had the ModMic 5 its very good. I now have the Yeti Pro. But I highly the ModMic 5 for anyone who doesn't want to buy a cheap headset. Trust me its good.
Great review. So if I have an external DAC (sennhesier) doesn't this just negate the use of that DAC? My bluetooth headphones (beats) would be connected to the PC. I only use my DAC for wired headsets :(
Great review as usual.. Problem with all these mic and headset reviews is I am always wanting a new one when the one I have is good enough. Currently using the Cloud II. Interested in the Sennheiser though... Dammit
Thanks man. And story of my LIFE! Whatever you do, don't start reviewing headsets - it aonly gets worse. Wait til you see what I have coming out in a few weeks. Hide your wallet lol
My go to is my Rode NT USB but I don't always want to sit right at my desk when gaming. Sometimes I like to lean back and move a bit. I've tried a couple mic solutions but I'm afraid that my favorite headphones (Senn HD1s) won't be compatible with a Mod mic since the headband sits over top of the ear cups.
Hows a Superlux 688b with a modmic 4.0. compare to the spearhead VR? I'm looking for a headset for competitive/immersive gaming headset around $100. I know the modmic is way better than the spearheads mic, but how does the imaging and sound stage compare?
+Vlad PutIn ok...this one was tough. I think the Spearhead was better in terms of imaging but you have to eq it precisely so you dont gwt overwhelmed with bass. So I would vote Spearhead. I tried the GSP300 VS Superlux as well and the GSP SMOKED it for picking out enemies. Given the choice of the 3, specifically for gaming, i would go GSP 300.
Dude I legit tweeted you to test out this bad boy... holy hell you’re fast.. as usual top quality review! What wirelesss headphones do you think this would go perfectly with?
If I used them with a wireless gaming headset, I'd probably go with the HyperX Cloud Filights. There's some things I'm not crazy about but the sound quality is great. Otherwise any pair of high end BT headphones from Sony OR Sennheiser.
Brian I’m currently running the artic pro wireless & I’m being told it’s awful in game chat on pc.. I ordered this mod mic but any tips you can give me to get the steel series mic properly? I really like it
Solid coverage and well-detailed comparison video. Thanks for the video. I was having trouble with my ModMic out of the box but cranking the volume level in Windows right the way down to 0 appears to have helped eliminate the upper crackle I was getting before. Thanks!
I have a ModMic4, and while I love it paired with my Bose QC 35 ii, I have way too many cables plugged into my laptop. 5 cables and I only have 2 USB ports that are in use by my ethernet to usb port and mouse. Can I use ModMic Wireless without the receiver through bluetooth?
Anyone found out the best way to do this? I would like it to work with an over the ear headset. So that I could have a mic that operates just like the old Xbox 360 wireless mic did, but better because well it's 2020 :)
Was wondering if you could help me out, Badseed. I'm trying to decide on a wireless gaming headset. I've watched your recent video on best 2018 headsets for under $100, but was wondering if maybe it'd be worth spending just a little more. I'm looking for something with good "imaging" (I think that's what you call it), something that allows me to hear the direction of the sounds (surround sound?) with good bass.. I'm looking to spend around $150.. Other features like rgb, good mic, comfort, battery life are good bonuses but not a complete necessity.. I'm not an audiophile, I know very little about sound quality but you seem like you know pretty much everything there is when it comes to this stuff, so any ideas would be so appreciated..
Hey Greg! The Cloud Flight is probably the safest recommendation for sound quality but is anemic on the features. Arctis 7 2019 is a strong contender too but lighter on the bass than the other options. I've actually been liking the Razer Nari lately for wireless if you don't mind Synapse software...it a great all rounder. If you have a sm-md size head, don't mind clamping force and looking ridiculous, the G933 has the best imaging out there. Personally can't stand wearing it but it does pick out footsteps really well and the bass is solid.
@@badseedtech Hey thanks man! So many different options out there, I'm thinking it's between the 933 or the arctis 7.. It's such a hard decision though. The 933 is ugly af, but I guess it's not like anyone is going to he watching me when I'm gaming with it. Lol.
Well done on the review. I like the wireless mod mic never knew there was any until now but i got to be honest im kinda skeptic when that Steelseries pro wireless part popped up 😅. From your prospective what would you choose the cloud flights or the pro wireless ? Im worried the pro wireless aren’t that comfortable at the same time i dont want to miss out on the all in quality.
There's nothing wrong with the sound on the Flights. Some would argue they sound better. You're basically paying a premium for the feature set on the Arctis.
Yeah the wires got me to the point of hating it. Ended up getting some sennheiser massdrop pc37x. Still not as good as a good pair of studio headphones so I'll probably have to get another mod mic
Glad you liked it! I wish the g933 fit my head better. There's a reason why Logi still hasn't refreshed it - bc its sound and feature set are on point!
What do you do, or what does it happen, when the right side of your Sony headset is also a touch interface. You know, if I put my hands on it, it mutes the music, I can adjust volume, and so on. Can I install this on it, what do you think?
@@badseedtech I think we misunderstood each other, then I found the answer on Amazon under this product's description in the Questions section. The adhesive used to get the mic's magnetic holder on the right side of the headphone/headset can interfere with the touch interface placed on the right sides of Sony BT headphones. The touch interface will recognize this as a human touch. This was the thing I wanted to know, I dont care about gaming, I want to use this mic for voice to text applications, and also playing games with my Sony (WX-B900N) headphones were just fine ever since I used them. Maybe because I prefer single player titles.
Yo! I may get these for my pro 82. Have you been able to use the audio device you mentioned for PS4 yet? Is it looking like a must buy item? Any hints on what it is? The mic sounds so amazing for being wireless! Also ? I appreciate you and your content, I know UA-camrs may not always hear that from us subs. Merry Christmas man!
There's the link for what I was testing. Looked to a be a small inline amp. Problem is it isn't going to fix the problem for everyone - only for some. It makes it may 3-5db louder. It DID make my GSP 300 sound louder but not a crazy amount. It originally retailed for $100 when it came out. I'll still do a video and it *may* work for you but its not a miracle cure.
@@badseedtech I think I'll get the 1more vr again. I didn't have access to a Windows PC to update it before to use any of the usb stuff and they weren't worth it without it. I've seen like four UA-camrs rave about them, including one who hates gaming headsets..

I'm not in love with the M50x sound, but they are tough to beat at that price for Bluetooth. If you can stretch the budget a bit more, I'd consider the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 wireless. I don't work with Sennheiser, but there's a reason why I always recommend them.
