Small anecdote and unrelated to the wireless modmic (other than I own that as well) but I bought the very first of theirs back in the day when they didn't have those nice carrying cases and was quite happy with it. A few years later I saw they came out with newer versions and a carrying case that you couldn't purchase separately so I asked them if they would sell me one possibly. @Lord Winter You can bet I'll tell that story to anybody who will listen whenever the topic of microphones comes up :D That kind of customer support is damn rare
I'm most impressed by the noise floor and lack of pops. Sounds pretty good in omnidirectional as well. I was thinking the same as Phil, that it could still work for production.
@2:37 It actually does use Bluetooth. It's Apt-X LL. The problem with bluetooth headsets is that it's sharing the bandwidth for the audio and the mic. This just separates it into it's own dedicated channel. Bluetooth has come a long way in the past couple years.
Thank you for informative comments, I totally agree :) currently developing my own communication protocol and noticing my missed appreciation for the Bluetooth protocols these days 🙈
hmm i wonder if that would interfere with my current apt-x ll headset. my issue is i havent found a apt-x hd/ll headset that can use aptx and mic input at the same time.
So manufacturers should just use 2 seperate Dongles for Audio and Mic. I don't get the Problem. Buying a 200$ Wireless Headset, I expect the best Sound at all cost.
I’ve been using mine for over a year and a half and it’s been a SOLID performer. Battery lasts longer than expected and the flexibility it provides on top of the sound quality makes it a truly unique product. Happy that you found out about it and like it as much as I do!
I’ve had my mod mic for a few years now a bit of an audio file so needed a separate mic that suited my needs couldn’t be happier with the purchase. Great knowing you feel the same way jay
"The mic makes my voice sounds like that!" You should look at your signal chain and maybe add a de-esser. Compress first then eq with a de-esser to help with runaway 7k-10k lisp. That being said the cardioid has proximity effect and switching it to omni makes it sound more natural because we hear most of the reflections of our voice instead of actually hearing our voice first. There's a bit of mind games with audio that makes people happy and you just gotta figure it out sometimes.
Yeah, i think its not that hard to develop a good mic, the thing about sound is one dont want to hear the direct sound, reverb, sound reflection, etc, feels more natural. + u just got a new sub, yur pfp sold it.
After the Bluetooth headset already compressed the shit out of the digital signal (to save on bandwidth), I don’t think there’s much you can do to salvage it without sacrificing even more quality and clarity. For a decent, analog input, you’re absolutely correct, though.
While bluetooth audio for headset has become amazing over the years with the different standards n stuff, you have to remember that the mic part of bluetooth havent recieved any attention at all, because its main use it to do phone conversations and not podcasts n stuff. I have the modmic wireless myself and its amazing, even cancels out my boat engine at like 100db.
I've been using the wireless modmic for a while now, after I wore out the wired version (cable damage near stress point). The main reason I got the wireless version wasn't even to have no cables running to my headset, as it's a wired one, but so I could demount the mic and store it when not in use, to prevent damage. I must say, that aspect worked out exactly as I hoped it would, and using a magnetic charger plug, charging it is also pretty hassle-free. The only problem I have with it, but that's partially a personal mumbleperson one, is that my current Z170 MB doesn't play all that nice with it, and I cannot boost the output beyond the level slider in Win10: the Boost slider is simply missing. I highly suspect that's primarily a MB audio driver thing, though, not the modmic itself.
@@kaziwill My modmic failed at the stress point after some years. The problem is that in my situation I have the cable clipped to the headphone cable. As I put them on and off the cable twists and puts stress right at the end of the stress relief. When it failed I could twist it and it would look completely normal. I was able to fit heat shrink around it to reinforce that area. Why are you assuming people treat their stuff like crap?
Antlion have made very good on-headphone ModMics for years. The magnetic attachment method has improved a lot too. I've used my ModMics at numerous LANs in noisy environments and at home for years. Streaming, chatting, gaming, work conferences, all sorts. With the older wired models, getting a little USB audio interface capable of supplying a clean 5 Volts to energise the mic capsule was always important. A lot of motherboard sound cards just didn't do very well, or introduced loads of noise on to the incoming signal due to poor circuit design. I ended up using the Sabrent USB adapters which worked nicely. Nowadays you can also buy a ModMic USB interface, buy a ModMic XLR adapter (if you have a phantom power capable interface) -- or just buy their USB integrated model! It's so easy now... Very satisfied owner of the Modmic v3 and v4, and I've recommended the wireless model to quite a few people. It was just the solution I wanted to see all those years ago - like many people, I already have far better headphones than any gaming headset for the same price (HD650 for home, and HD25 for LANs, work and rough environments). I didn't want to buy a set of substandard headphones just to get a headset mic. Another advantage of using a ModMic is that as the name implies, it's fairly modular - so if anything breaks, you don't have to trash the lot. Antlion customer support have also been very helpful when one of my old modular inline mute switches started to fail years later. Considering the mic was already an old model, they still were able to send a few more inline switches plus a new case in the post, from the US to the UK, for cost price. Super helpful. As IMO their mic capsule's always been optimised for omni pickup, that's the pattern you want to use, unless noise rejection is your primary criterion. As Jay observed, and you can hear, the frequency response curve does change slightly. His lav mic also has an omni pickup pattern (just about all pro lavs do). To tame the sound a bit and adjust it to how I want, I run my ModMic audio through VoiceMeeter into Reaper to apply some EQ, noise reduction, compression and limiting. I then route it back in to VoiceMeeter using its ASIO insert routing, so I can use the processed audio in Discord/Skype/OBS/games. A little bit of a learning curve to get going, but it's truly set-and-forget once done. Being able to use VSTs for voice processing is also really useful. Great to see ModMics getting some more positive press. They're a serious contender for people who are upgrading their audio but don't want to waste hundreds on gaming brand headsets for no reason, when they're happy with their current headphone setup. My personal hope is that in future models, they are 100% modular - right down to mic capsule - so you can buy capsules you want and switch them out should they get damaged (or if you want a specific type of capsule, if they decided to go down that route). Fingers crossed!
I love this thing. Used it so much they actually asked me to do a bunch of adverts for Antlion, doing VO with the modmic! Surprisingly quality audio, perfect for VR streaming/recording, and gives you the ability to roam and stay live. Great for multi-room streaming setups, or as an interview-style mic when you need a bonus mic in a large group streaming together in a room.
I have had this mic for a few years now. When I was looking for a replacement for my wired modmic. And it's been amazing. After all this time and almost daily usage (5+ hours) the battery still lasts like 8-10 hours.
Imma be honest here I didn't notice much of a difference from the very little sample we got from comparing it to the Logitech g pro and the modmic. I feel like that would've been a far better comparison instead of $3000 vs $139. And i may have a biased opinion here since i own an AT 2020 and g pro x but i think GHUB makes "fixing" audio easier.
The video doesn't do this mic justice. Keep in mind they admitted to add EQ to the $3000 USD studio mic. And that one STILL is clipping like crazy in his videos. The ModMic had no EQ applied, so the comparison is a bit difficult here cause your ears are getting trained to his studio mic beforehand and then the MM sounds weird and off. They should have also shown how it sounds with the same EQ applied additionally. I am using 2 of those and people on Discord could not hear any difference from my big condenser mic compared to the MM.
@@AdamTreier He is shilling like always...modmic payed him a bunch of money so he says modmic wireless mics are a gift from god. Btw...you didn't spot any diff between the Logitech and modmic because there is none...they both suck
ive been using for 2 years now, no problems, no messy software, it simply works and that very good. only downside for me is it beeing mikro-usb (prob also because of it needing less space then usb-c, but i would take a bigger device for that any time)
its a good mic "BUT" if you got a lot lot of RF emitters around then it can cause audio problems it seems like the modmic and the htc vive dongles interfere with each other when they are in one spot i have had it for about a 6 mouths and was having problems with it so i sent it back but the new unet had the same problem so i started moving the dongle and that fix it
I’ve been using my Antlion wireless mic (as in this video) for 2years now and it’s by far the best mic I’ve used on a headset and compares well to any half decent standalone mic imo. No interference or drop out issues experienced ever during my 2yrs of use. Plus I scored it here in Australia on a 50% off sale making it a tremendous deal 🥰👍😇😉
Damn dude that's good as. I'm in aus also and also had it for about 2 years. Maybe a bit more but I didn't get it on any special and I still think it's the better mic compared to a blue snowball that I've had since they released :P I like the consistent distance from me to the microphone, it keeps the volume and subsequently any EQ to be applied to the right ranges at all times, very different to a standing mic where if you shift in your chair then you get a massive shift in how your vocals sound as you're talking
Funnily enough, he did a review of the Corsair Virtuosos a long while ago and the headset mic quality is genuinely good and if he used that it wouldnt have been as bad
The mIc is very good, but the rest of the virtuoso is crap. The has round earcups and most people have problems with that and the drivers are also very bad. there is almost no bass or volume. And no, the stupid iCue EQ cant fix that.
@@H1zN I havent had any issues with my virtuosos for a long time and Ive had them for about 3 years. They sound good to me for gaming and the software has gotten better since they came out. They have plenty of bass in my opinion so Im not sure where that comes from. Obviously its all subjective, I use them purely for gaming and youtube so music isnt really something I care about while Im on my desktop
@@H1zN I was going to recommend the Virtuoso - I have the XT. Comfortable, sounds great. No, it doesn't have bass boost enabled - it has more properly balanced sound than most headphones (which is still actually moderately boosted bass). It does have the option to mess with EQ curves, though I haven't touched it yet.
I've had my modmic wireless for about 2-3 years or so now, and its still going strong. Only minor issue is that the battery life lasts about 8 hours now from its original 12 hrs, but tbf I used this thing like 8-12 hours almost every day for that whole duration
Cardioid mics are most useful for rejecting what you DON'T want to hear, by placing those sources in the dead zone of the pickup pattern. They also have a strong proximity effect, which is why you tend to get better rejection of ambient noise. The counter to this with an omnidirectional pickup pattern, as you found in the video, is that the frequency response tends to be much more uniform regardless of distance from source. With something like this you're unlikely to get much ambient pickup versus direct pickup given how close it will be to your mouth, and so you are likely to get a much more open and natural sound from omni mode. This is the same reason that headset, professional lapel and mics worn in the hair/on the face for stage productions tend to be omnidirectional. It's initially counterintuitive but makes a lot of sense when you get your head around it. - Audio Engineer
Team FeVR has used the Modmic Wireless as the goto mic for all our VR streaming for the past couple of years and always been super happy with both the sound quality and all our interactions with Antlion. Great great product
I think the Corsair HS80 has probably the best mic on a wireless headset. Could be worth checking it out. They come with a Dolby licence for Windows too which is nice.
Well my experience with this exact ModMic model... - 2/10 - expensive af - really sensitive to EFM interference (especially my Nanoleaf Remote control) - doesn't really stay in place too nicely (feels a bit wobbly) - everyone complained about my voice quality THE WORST: even though I took care of it and cradling it yet so gently when not in use, both broke after 8-9 months of use.
Switched from this ModMic because of the shitty quality (build and audio) and looseness myself, bought a Samson Q2U for 1/3 the price and everyone was happy how much better the voice quality was
I have had the complete opposite experience. Mine has lasted 3 years so far, no damage, stays in place easily, no interference for me even on other AptX-LL headphones. How much do you abuse your mic?
Sorry for your negative experience so far! We offer a full 2 year warranty. It sounds like you may have had a defective unit; so drop us an email and lets get that swapped out for you. The wobble alone would be enough to get things replaced (It should not wobble!)
@@ElSkeppo The Q2U is a desktop mic with a crappy little plastic mini tripod and an integrated USB interface. It sounds good in controlled, quiet environments but if it's not mounted on a mic boom you will be picking up more of your keyboard than your voice. I know, because I also own one. I've owned several ModMics over the last few years as have my friends, we've had occasional problems which we've sorted out but no unit has been as bad as you describe. shame you didn't try to RMA it and get a replacement.
I've had this setup - HD6xx's and a ModMic wireless - since April '20 when everyone went full remote. It's the best conferencing and stereo gaming setup I've found, and I have no major complaints.
I've had one since they launched. I love it. The battery only lasts a little over 6 hours now though, but considering how much I've used it, I'd say I still got my money's worth out of it.
My only gripe of the mod mic wireless in the 3-4 years I've been using it, is that the battery life of 8-12 hours is not ideal vs the new industry standards with how long they can be, especially when you are planning on using the mic for a full day it is just a little bit of a pain to keep it charged when you are looking to keep you're setup fully wireless.
Honestly, I don't hear much of a difference between the Logitech and this ModMic in cardioid mode. In omni it sounds a lot better tho. Maybe it's because you set the gain way too hot and it distorted the sound, but when you changed to omni the gain does down to a more desired level and then it sounds better because of that. Maybe the auto gain wouldn't be too bad for you...
Exactly, they both sound like crap. On my speakers, the Logitech actually sounds a bit better because there's slightly (just slightly) more bottom end.
I've used the wireless modmic for 2 years now and I'm still happy with the product but one note is the USB receiver is a bit weak if you have your PC/console far from you and the magnets are bit taller and can make the mic wiggle when you move you're head alot but the sound quality and the battery life is amazing for the price
The range issue is unusual. You should have ~10 meters in open space (less through walls and such, but still multiple meters). We did have a defect issue back in 2019 that caused ranges to be much shorter. If you can't get more than 3 feet (1 meter) away please email us, as you may have a defective product which should not have reached shelves (a few did before we caught the issue though, we estimate around 500 units in total worldwide and we think we managed to retrieve most of them). If it isn't that, you can still email us or drop by our Discord, I'd love to hear/learn more about this issue. The wobble is something we're working on and is a known issue that impacts some units. You can actually fix it by opening your mic and re-seating the magnet with some glue, and of course anyone having this issue in warranty can get that part replaced :) Oh and for you and everyone else; we believe in being transparent with our customers both on known issues and how to fix them, so don't be a stranger. We've got multiple folks here whose entire job relies on you reaching out when you need help! :D
@@AntlionAudio i did get an replacement before that had the range issue and an arm defect which would drop down, but the one I got now I'm still satisfied and i do get more than 3 meter but it might be an USB issue on my PC. Thx for the help
I just got a review unit from mod mic to review, and i was scared to review it due to me not knowing how to tackle the review, your video helped me a lot to brain storm some talking points. Thanks Jason!
1:45 isnt the shure sm7b like 300$ (and that’s before buying an xlr interface)? for a mic that’s builtin to a product where that isnt the main feature, that’s honestly passable.. like yea you want something better for streaming, but for just occasional discord chats that sounds perfecly adequate to me (i can’t comment of the sound of the headphones tho obviously)
For those who don't have headphones / mic yet for gaming the EPOS | Sennheiser GSP 670, Gaming-Headset sounds really good. For the $250 - $300 you can find them for, there really isn't anything better in this price range.
I've been tempted to replace my headset (decent sound, inconsistent mic) for a while, with some proper good wireless headphones and a mod mic. Nice to see the option exists out there. Surely the increase in bandwidth and transmission specs means they can now improve both, but apparently not.
some wireless headsets have decent mics sure they're not as good as this (which they could not be anyway since they are also sending audio signals through the wireless connection not just the mic sound which uses more bandwidth than something which is exclusively a mic) but are good enough. To me mine sound good. I have the Corsair HS80 which is one of their better headsets for wireless audio and for the price its really good
@@sabbiruddin3938 this is a super rough estimate but id say i get like 10 hours use probably. i just charge it every time i put it down and it gets me through the long gaming sessions
@@sabbiruddin3938 Antlion staff say it should have about 12 hours "on" time per charge when it's new, and at least 95% of that through 500 charge cycles. I've seen several users report having used one consistently for 2-3 years and still getting around 8 hours per charge.
holy shit the difference from Jays normal mic, and the ModMic is so big. His normal mic is so much better. His entire voice sounds different, and not in any obvious "bad mic" way either. Totally did not expect a mic to 'warp' someone's voice so much.

@@CaptianBarouq I have it in the front of my case. I did read that having my router close by can interfere with the signal. Not sure if this is the case or not.
I had the modmic wireless before I ran into Corsair HS80. The microphone on the headset is great compared to other wireless headsets. Was hoping to see someone comment about it and you did not disappoint :)
Is it just me or did it sound terrible? I'd never suggest it to anyone if that was the end result. Total amateur streamers have mics that are miles better. If this is the best wireless has to offer I wouldn't touch it, even if it was dirt cheap. It _sounds_ cheap.
I've had the ModMic Wireless for a long time now. Everyone always told me it sounds bad/cheap over Discord. I tried EQing it, adding a noise gate, you name it. They always said it sounds like poo. So I bought a Blue Snowball ICE for like $30 and they said it's night and day. Am I doing something wrong? I'd much rather be using the MM Wireless so I don't have a fricken mic and arm in my face while gaming/talking.
Because mics on headphones including stick on mics like the Modmic have tiny receptors unlike that in your Snowball so cannot discern bass response very well. The receptor is a reverse speaker that translates analog vibrations. The reason the lav mic on Jays clip on mic sounds so bassy is because it is held against his chest and picks up the resonance from his chest when speaking. That and it being extremely expensive so has better processing.
I think that's just Discord. In my experience it's like a roll of the dice on how it's going to work on Discord. Bad mics can sound better than good ones, with no obvious reason behind it. IF you can, try and do group calls on something else, like Jitsi.
@@madness1931 Never had any issues with my MM Wireless and Discord. People even praise it and ask what the heck I am using. Thought it's a big condenser desk mic.
@@kyoudaiken Yeah, the ModMic can sound great. In theory, a lot of mics should, regardless of call platform. Though, Discord seems to have a sound problem on a lot of computers. Its been like it for years. Sometimes, don't matter what mic it is, it can sound really bad (to the point where a cheap mic sounds better) when it should not. People have been complaining, and all Discord tells you to do is check your Discord settings. Surprise, surprise, these setting changes don't fix the problems. Discord blames your machine, despite it being a seemingly common issue on their platform (and not on other services).
Had this Mic for over 3 years and it is the best thing i have gotten overall for PC gaming discord calls and the like. I originally used the built in steelseries mic and that would struggle to pick up my voice. Once I got the modmic it picks my voice up so clearly I can whisper to my friends no problem and I don't have to talk so loud in order for my mic to detect input
Been using this for a year because I stream from a capture card and a console for some games and it let's me use my pc headset to hear all my stream alerts and my mic to talk to stream while using this to talk to my group on the console. Avoiding all those crazy double headset "solutions"
Wow the omnidirectional sounds so much better than the cardioid pickup pattern, but at the added cost of having more background noise. I was not a huge fan of the cardioid pattern, your voice really sounds flat and lacks depth, with a quite harsh P and S sounds (although a de-esser might fully fix that). For 130 bucks and it being wireless, the omnidirectional is something quite good actually.
No offense but my Corsair Virtuoso wireless headset sounds better than this. I even paid less for it. I believe I got mine at best buy for about $125 sale price.
At that price point, mic audio quality difference is so little that the only way to make them sound different is by post-processing, which only the Logitech has natively. To me the Mod Mic sounded pretty much the same as the Logitech Pro in Jay's video - basically flat and tinny, lacking punch in the low frequencies. But Logitech also comes with all the GHUB software features (post-processing, profiles, etc.) that allow you to tweak the sound to your heart's content, so it's the better purchase IMO. You can even upgrade the Logitech Pro mic to the higher quality Blue Icepop mic for slightly better/cleaner audio. Between the two in the video, I'd take Logitech Pro hands down. But across the entire low/medium-budget wireless mic market, I'd go with Corsair Virtuoso XT. It has the best mic audio quality, has USB-C, is compatible with both PC and consoles, it can connect via USB, 2.4G wireless, bluetooth or wired, supports Dolby Atmos and hi-res audio, has subtle RGB bling and post-processing etc. that can be tweaked via iCUE software. You can even customize the earpads to your liking with aftermarket cushions. Corsair Virtuoso XT beats them all.
if you think it sounds the same as the crap on the logitech you need to get your ears checked. it's markedly different. Not gonna beat a dedicated microphone but it makes every gaming headset look more garbage than they already are.
had the misfortune of going through two of these in less than a year, one for me and the other for my partner. one had continuous connectivity issues and started dropping audio after about 6 months and then the other got erectile dysfunction and refused to stay up. the audio quality is great, but the build quality was just really poor from my experience 😔
To my ears this mic is very acceptable and clear. I am not an audiophile or require investing in microphones but something with a good value that has decent quality is all I'm in for.

Used one of these for about 2 years with a few pair of headphones. The mic is pretty good. The dongle can be finicky. Sometimes it lost pairing and took 2 attempts to re-pair. The mute function DID NOT mute the mic multiple times throughout my time with it. I don’t miss it. I much prefer my desk mic on an arm. If you NEED wireless it’s decent though
Had this for the past 3 years and never going back! Only downside would be i wish the battery was abit larger or if it had quick charge or even hot swappable batteries it wouldve neen insane
The only thing I've hated about it is the same thing I hate about wireless headsets. I've had this for a couple of years now, but I'll never understand the decision to not put a physical switch on wireless devices or let you replace the battery. I HATE having to push the power button for EXACTLY 3 seconds to turn off the device. No more, no less. If you wait too much, it doesn't turn off, if you do let go too early, it also doesn't turn off. I hate that so much.
I've been using the mod mic with my XM3000's for the last couple years. I've tried plenty of other gaming headsets, but TBH nothing even comes close to the audio quality of Sony's headset (not to mention some "high-end" gaming headsets cost the same, sound worse, and don't have ANC) so to be able to use them and still have a good mic just feels amazing.
i personally don't have a need for these but the price of $140 for quality like this for such a niche category is honestly pretty damn decent. AND they give you so many accessories that just speaks to their prowess
Talking about wireless headphones with great microphones, the Arctis 7 and pro are really good. They are using something similar to the modmic, it is not a bluetooth headset but they come with a dongle. The sound and signal is really strong, I have my dongle inside the table drawers (thanks to my cat) and I can go about 20 meters away to the next room and still be able to hear and chat, only losing a bit of signal if I close 2 doors in between. Great headset but costs 200 dollars.
Biggest problem with wireless headsets is bandwidth. They allocate most of the bandwidth to the speakers and not the mic. This is evident when headsets that support wired and wireless modes. If you take the headset, and connect it through the wired mode, the mic will sound better than when in wireless mode. it is not a "weakness" in the Mic they used, but a weakness in wireless in general.

I imagine he does use a de-esser. I learned about de-essers from his channel, after all
DBX286 FTW
After the Bluetooth headset already compressed the shit out of the digital signal (to save on bandwidth), I don’t think there’s much you can do to salvage it without sacrificing even more quality and clarity.
For a decent, analog input, you’re absolutely correct, though.
@@rafasoaresms I do live sound as my career all I know is professional and studio lmao. I try not to fuck with bluetooth
If you have been using it for long, I just want to ask how is the battery?
It's USB it doesn't use the mb sound decoder, however does sound like a driver issue
Of the mic
try using APO Equalizer. iirc, you could increase the preamp for any input or output device
You should consider not being so hard on things. You aren't a child any longer...

My modmic failed at the stress point after some years.
12:20 you can use the magnet to put the mic on your shirt 🤷♂️ - mic outside, magnet inside the shirt or whatever you would wear.
As a sound guy, I loved this video
I love this thing. Used it so much they actually asked me to do a bunch of adverts for Antlion, doing VO with the modmic! Surprisingly quality audio, perfect for VR streaming/recording, and gives you the ability to roam and stay live. Great for multi-room streaming setups, or as an interview-style mic when you need a bonus mic in a large group streaming together in a room.
Is it right that the USB dongle constantly flashes a blue light even when the microphone is turned off?
Those mics are a staple of the VR community :)
Can't see the Amazon link for this that you said would be in the description.
I didn't understand what he was doing at first because I could not hear the difference.

Good news, they're working on a new version that (among a few other tweaks) will use USB-C.

it seems like the modmic and the htc vive dongles interfere with each other when they are in one spot
i have had it for about a 6 mouths and was having problems with it so i sent it back but the new unet had the same problem so i started moving the dongle and that fix it
U sure u don't have a emf going on
I got one for the same reason. I thankfully got mine for a little over 100 bucks. I use it for many other things as well just because it's so good.
That mic certainly gives a clear audio line. Mainly I noticed the reduction in echo from the $3000 analog mic.
Ive had this modmic for 1 year and Ilove it
I’ve been using my Antlion wireless mic (as in this video) for 2years now and it’s by far the best mic I’ve used on a headset and compares well to any half decent standalone mic imo.
Wow that IS a good deal. ~25% off is as far as retailers are SUPPOSED to go. :D

Wireless mic reviews????? I love it
I've had my modmic wireless for about 2-3 years or so now, and its still going strong. Only minor issue is that the battery life lasts about 8 hours now from its original 12 hrs, but tbf I used this thing like 8-12 hours almost every day for that whole duration
Same, mine lasts about 7-8 hours now. Been thinking about opening her up and changing the battery myself.
I have this Same mic for VR. It is great.

Team FeVR has used the Modmic Wireless as the goto mic for all our VR streaming for the past couple of years and always been super happy with both the sound quality and all our interactions with Antlion. Great great product
Always good to see a FeVR streamer! :)
I think the Corsair HS80 has probably the best mic on a wireless headset. Could be worth checking it out. They come with a Dolby licence for Windows too which is nice.
Absolutely hands down the best headset mic, not even just on wireless headsets, on all headsets
Still think my Bose Quietcomfort 25 II do the job - but I use them in Datacentres as PPE
Agreed. The mic definitely sounds better than the one Jay reviewed in this video.
Agree, I love that headset.
The omni mode sounds so much better
Well my experience with this exact ModMic model... - 2/10
- expensive af
- really sensitive to EFM interference (especially my Nanoleaf Remote control)
- doesn't really stay in place too nicely (feels a bit wobbly)
- everyone complained about my voice quality
THE WORST: even though I took care of it and cradling it yet so gently when not in use, both broke after 8-9 months of use.
Those sound pretty legit
My only gripe of the mod mic wireless in the 3-4 years I've been using it, is that the battery life of 8-12 hours is not ideal vs the new industry standards with how long they can be, especially when you are planning on using the mic for a full day it is just a little bit of a pain to keep it charged when you are looking to keep you're setup fully wireless.
Wow, the omnidirectional performance is impressive. Nice coverage JTC
I felt the same way.
Exactly, they both sound like crap. On my speakers, the Logitech actually sounds a bit better because there's slightly (just slightly) more bottom end.
Yeah. Both are garbage.

Been using this on my VR for almost 3 yrs and love it!
I've used the wireless modmic for 2 years now and I'm still happy with the product but one note is the USB receiver is a bit weak if you have your PC/console far from you and the magnets are bit taller and can make the mic wiggle when you move you're head alot but the sound quality and the battery life is amazing for the price
Opposite for me, I sounded like a robot for 7 seconds then going back to sounding normal for a few minutes
You can actually fix it by opening your mic and re-seating the magnet with some glue, and of course anyone having this issue in warranty can get that part replaced :)
Oh and for you and everyone else; we believe in being transparent with our customers both on known issues and how to fix them, so don't be a stranger. We've got multiple folks here whose entire job relies on you reaching out when you need help! :D

I have the Corsair HS80 which is one of their better headsets for wireless audio and for the price its really good
I use a Corsair Virtuoso which is cheaper (during a sale) and sounds better than this thing lol.

Drop by our Discord and tag our staff. I'd be happy to figure out what's going on with your setup :)
I always use omni. I think it's way better than the other mode. Still the best wireless mic i've ever had
Yeah, I noticed cardioid sounded very mids focused, like an old radio, but omni sounds natural
I actually considered getting one of these to combine it with a pair of proper Beyerdynamic headphones. Good to hear that it's actually good
I've been looking at the modmic, but I'll wait until they come out with a type C connector for it.

To my ears this mic is very acceptable and clear. I am not an audiophile or require investing in microphones but something with a good value that has decent quality is all I'm in for.
But this one hasn't good value

I bought the V2 for 30$ years ago.still running it.
It's really good! I use it for VR content because it's so much better than the vr headset mic and no extra wires!
Don't go for "gaming" headsets....they are an overexpensive gimmick.
If you want quality get Studio headphones and a modmic simple as that.
i personally don't have a need for these but the price of $140 for quality like this for such a niche category is honestly pretty damn decent. AND they give you so many accessories that just speaks to their prowess
Oh! I have this same need!! Thanks for the reference Jay!
ModMic has always been FIRE!
This might be my goto for VR Streams too whenever I get my Full Body Rig sorted out
Omnidirectional sounds significantly better, wow.
Omnidirectional sounds way more natural than cardioid
Amazing microphone.
This mic is by far my favorite. It allows me to use my Sennheiser HD 558's with a mic.
I have an Astro A50 wireless headset and the audio quality is really good. I don't use the mic often but I never had any complaints when I do.
