Ha thank you! There’s a time for perfection and a time to remember what I’m doing isn’t rocket science or brain surgery. It’s just a cabinet. It is...what it is 😉😂
Been woodworking longer than I’d like to admit, my shop it pretty well decked out with some pretty high end tools, that said Kreg is no joke, it’ll get you up and building quick without breaking the bank. Nice build Shara !
Thanks so much! And yes, 100% agree. I know a lot of people hate on Kreg, but they’ve really made woodworking accessible for beginners and weekend woodworkers who don’t want or need a shop full of fancy tools. 🙌
New to your channel. Love to become a builder like you at 56 years young. Always liked wood shop. Now starting to find out what makes me happy. Looking forward to more of your videos. I think it’s wonderful you showed us that even someone as talented as you has frustrating mishaps. So wonderful of you to share your imperfections 🙏🏻🙌❤️
Wish there were a way to add pictures. I just made my version of this. It's a bit taller, double the width and stained a walnut color. Turned out GORGEOUS! Thanks so much for the idea! My new home is coming together thanks to your chanel Shara :) Learning so much from you!👍
I came looking for a how-to for traditional splined cane, but still enjoyed your video. Good on you for building with consistent craftsmanship. There is nothing worse than watching someone pocket hole a cabinet together and then finish it out with their 8 inch jointer and mortising machine or vice versa. You did a good job being beginner friendly while still acknowledging there is a 'right' way.
Thank you! My goal with my channel is to be approachable for people who don’t have hours to spend, thousands of dollars in tools, or huge workspaces to build basic pieces they just want to make for their home.
Omg yes! I didn’t even think about how good this would be for storing fabric and such. I have a basket full of fabric next to my desk. You’ve given me an idea of how i should use it now! 😄😄
Wow that's really beautiful, I think the scrap trim molding was the perfect choice it really made the cabinet pop. Easy but beautiful work .keep them coming..
I just love your videos! I know how it is when your in a build and find out when you are finished that you messed up! So frustrating! But you make it look so easy!
Really enjoyed watching you get it together, great job. I’m going to build one for my wife…Well see how it comes out. I’m new in woodworking and can’t get enough of these videos.
Looks amazing! One thing I learned is that you can actually spray the cane with water (does not need to be soaked at all) after you attached it to the door and just dry it with a hairdryer. Comes out awesome
Would it help to flatten it first? Like, put the entire cut-out under something heavy for a time. My thought was that due to it being rolled before, the part you worked with still wanted to roll up.
Getting ready to build something similar to this, but with 1/2" plywood. But not after watching this video, so thank you for this. I won't use cane, I want a solid front. As for the use, bath towels and linen cabinet.
Just subbed and liked, i enjoyed the content. Thanks kreig for sponsoring this young lady. She has a great atttitude and has skills to build nice things.
I built cabinetdoors with cane inlet as well. I tried to make the cane flat and streched tightly. I could manage it when I soaked the cane over a night in the tube....After drying up it became similar to a membrane of a drum.
Drawer fit moment. I've done the opposite with dovetailed drawers where I accidentally subtracted the side thicknesses from the front piece rendering a drawer that's too narrow. One of the disadvantages with plywood is, you don't really have much recourse when your drawers are just a bit too wide (at least not with the thin veneers on most plywoods). Nice build...and nice choice of shop music. I think we listen to the same type of music while working in the garage. :)
Having made a smoking/hanging box for salami which was similar to this (although open on all sides with slide in panels for smoking) I found with the flyscreen mesh I used to fill in the sides that the best way to get it tight was to leave it full length and pin it in place with the strips at one end and use the extra length to pull it really tight before cutting it along the outside edge of the strips. I have never worked with cane though so I am sure it is much harder to work with! Love the cabinet.
I haven’t, but I’m planning a tall fireplace very soon. But it won’t have drawers 😅 maybe it can give you some ideas anyway. So glad you’re enjoying the projects!
Wow, I love this so much. I also love your choices for the black base, cane. The little drawer and crown molding makes it really special for a simple cabinet. Have the plans! I'm sure I will make a lot of mistakes but I will get there with trial and error. Just what I need in my bathroom. As always, ty, Very nice!
Thank you so much! If I had room in my bathroom, that’s where this would go! It would be such a good place for extra towel storage. Happy building, friend! You got this! 😄🔨🔨
That is super cool! In my upstairs hallway there is this tiny space that nothing fits so I put a plant there. But this is way better. Definitely going to make this.
Great job. Thanks for all the extensive links in the description. Love you work by the way. It's simple and inexpensive enough for everyone and you projects don't go over the top in turns joints and crazy expensive exotic woods.
Very nice project and a useful piece of furniture! I really like the contrasting clear popular molding. I think it adds just that “little” touch that makes a simple (“it is what it is”, ((what an understatement!)) cabinet very beautiful! Thanks for sharing more great ideas and your excellent step by step illustrations. Have a great weekend Shara!
I appreciate your kind words and the time you took to watch. Thank you! Also, I didn’t even think about it, but I guess the trim did add a little touch of unintended detail 😉 I’ll just pretend I planned it haha. You have a great weekend as well!

Nice Project. Thanks for the free plans as well. I have a problem spot in the front room that this will fit into perfectly for the gloves, hats, scarves, and all that sort of stuff that just piles up. I will be building your armoire project soon for our dining room and may swap out the front doors for this cane design. It certainly adds a lot of visual interest.

Great build! Special props too, because I don’t believe that I would have been able to hold back some serious “sailor speak” when the drawer didn’t fit! That said, you gave me a great idea for a couple of old burlap feed sacks that I have been sitting on the “right” project for. Thanks Shara!
Haha I do my best to avoid “sailor speak,” but I will admit woodworking causes a slip here and there 🙈 but using burlap sacks for something like this would be SO cool. That’s a great idea. I’d love to see what you do with them!
@@WoodshopDiaries , Absolutely, I’ll probably send pics via Instagram or tag you. I’m thinking I’ll probably use them as door panels for a double-wide version of your idea. Unfortunately, “sailor speak” is probably the biggest reason I don’t do voiceover project videoes🤣!
Cool design. A tip for making drawers. Mark the width for the drawer pieces with a knife based on the width of the opening. You actually don't want any wiggle room from side to side, just a snug fit with a little wax on the sides.
Great build again, for one tiny second i thought to myself shara is going to curse it did make me smile as its the same thing we have all done at some point making a tight fit to tight.
Love it! I am a big fan of contrast colour so loved the molding and wish you have stain the door same colour as molding. Its near to impossible to take out the waves from cane unless you weave it on the peace, so well done for keeping the waves to minimal. Thanks for sharing.
omg... youre my new hero!!! you have inspired me so much!!! so im subscribing rite now... then gonna show my hubby this video so he & i can fig out what i need to learn how to do first (i mean as far as the basics) so that i can one day build something as beautiful as your "skinny cabinet" as you called it... Shara, you are the bestest woodworker ever! 😉 Another great job. I WAS wondering about the drawer front. Glad you added the “what I would do next time.” I love that you do that in your videos. I miss the sock monkey.

Great build. I'm in the mood to do some plywood projects. I haven't in a good while. And this would actually work in my bathroom. Or in my pantry hall. Thanks for sharing. Going to download the plans now.
Shara. Sharp looking cabinet, I have a tip for you on adding molding to your draw fronts; purchase large thin washers and use them as 1/16th spacers. Tape them to the edges with masking tape, tab over the edge, like a book marker so you can remove the washers without any hassle. Hope this helps.
What a great video! Once again, your cabinet looks fantastic, and the video editing is on a professional level. I appreciate you giving us tips and advice, especially on things you think didn't work quite well for you. You explaining every step is also a huge help. You make this look easy, though. I just tried to build a simple book stand to display a new art book I bought, and couldn't even make it straight. It's all falling apart. I can only dream of building a beautiful cabinet like this.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! I’m sure it’s not as bad as you think, but everything gets better with practice 😊 you can definitely do anything I can do!
@@WoodshopDiaries Oh! Believe me, it was worse than I thought. The wood chipped and the whole thing literally collapsed over itself. Luckily my book wasn't on it yet. But I managed to build a new one that is somewhat presentable. It also seems to work as intended. I shall not give up! Cheers!
So cute! I am so inspired by your designs to design and build my own. I haven't built anything before, but I have two degrees in Physics, so it'll probably be fine. 😂
Another great build! 👏👏 That turned out awesome Shara! Never thought of using cane on any of my builds before... I’ll keep that in mind! Thank you for sharing!

Using pocket holes is “the right way”. As are mortise and tenons, biscuits, floating tenons, or any combination the craftsman decides to use.

Cheers!
absolutely love this cabinet!
Thanks so much!
So cute! I am so inspired by your designs to design and build my own. I haven't built anything before, but I have two degrees in Physics, so it'll probably be fine. 😂
Wonderful work!
Thank you!
I LOVE THISSS.
Thank you Sam!! 😘😘
good job ,...from Brazil
Another great build! 👏👏 That turned out awesome Shara! Never thought of using cane on any of my builds before... I’ll keep that in mind! Thank you for sharing!
Thanks so much! Yes, I’m actually thinking of some more ideas I might could use cane on in the future! It was really fun to work with
Your work is very good 👏👏🤗🙋🇮🇶
Thank you so much!
This is close to my idea 💡😊❤
