As an amateur woodworker, I really appreciate this construction style. I made four base cabinets in the summer. Three of them I used dados and rabbits cut using my track saw. The last one was made the same way you have here with pocket holes and butt joints.
Once they were tied together, there is zero difference in strength for practical use cases. If something is going to crush two pieces of plywood stacked 1.5” thick and supported by arches and buttresses, and tied into your wall studs…. you probably needed a steel frame anyway. I get it for stand alone pieces like drawers, a hutch, a dresser, etc. I don’t think we really need it for things being supported in part by the building itself.
Recently I was adding pull out drawers to my professionally installed kitchen cabinets. Ya know how they made those? Butt joints and pocket hole screws. They’ve stood the test of time for a decade and the only things wearing out are the undermount drawer slides.
    Thanks for the guide.

This is the best cabinet builders guide I've seen. Some neat experience-driven tricks too, such as holding down your pencil at the line and then butt up the speed square against it. Or the tongue technique with the router is brilliant. Thank you for taking the time to make this.

I'm always impressed with your design and cabinet building skills, but this time I'm even more impressed with the way you woman handled that piece of 3/4" plywood into your shop. Wow, Supergirl. I have a set of cabinets to build this summer and have already saved this video to use as my guide. Thanks.

Thank you! It'll make more sense why I made it that way once it's installed in the laundry room. But an open shelf cabinet is a really great way to add some super simple storage anywhere you need.

Agree on the Sherwin-Williams Emerald. It is a great paint for cabinets. We used that to paint our existing cabinet boxes along with new doors and drawer fronts. We found that the 4” mohair rollers from SW gave a nice, smooth finish. That project was completed a couple of years ago and the paint has held up perfectly.

    Good morning Shara!
I absolutely could watch your videos for hours on end! 💯 Please don't think I'm crazy 🤪 I truly love wood working and specifically, DIY wood working to renovate my home. I am stumped and would genuinely love some advise.
    Here's my situation:
I'm taking an existing bathroom vanity that has 2 cabinet door sections (1 is under the plumbing and the 2nd half is on the other side). I've taken the non-plumbed side and installed a wall between the 2 halves so that I can build drawers. Seemed pretty simple to me & logical, tbh. It's a small bathroom (1970's home) and we need the drawer space. I measured the space to determine how many drawers I installed. I built 3 drawers (yes, I watched your drawer installation video😉) and made my drawer boxes. The trouble I've run in to is, even though I triple measure the length and width, I don't think I'm square and when I go to slide the drawer boxes, they fall off the slider.
Can you give me some trouble-shooting questions/suggestions to help?
As is stands, I'm frustrated and ready to throw in the towel! 🤯💔
Working on an existing vanity to build/install drawers is a pain in the butt! I've recently had the idea of building an insert that I can build the drawer slides to but that seems redundant.
    How would you tackle this?
Ps: I want to build a wall of base depth cabinet & drawers for my kitchen, that surround my fridge and that is a MUCH bigger project but first, I have to get this issue resolved. I REFUSE DEFEAT! #hardheaded #determinedwoman 🤓💪😂🤣👍

Love this! I too do not use wood glue. Mainly b/c if I mess up and need to adjust, I can b/c it's just a matter of unscrewing. With the wood glue, once it dries, it's hard to remove any pieces without damaging the wood. Therefore, costing more...

Haha! The weather was finally nice out while I was working on these, so he was out and about most of the build and didn't hang out. But of course, as soon as I film a "talk to camera" piece, he made his way in the frame ha! He's definitely the one in charge around here.

This was an awesome cabinet video. I really liked your style of explaining why you made the choices you did and some other options that could be used. Subscribed!

Epic build as always Shara! I'm never much of a fan of painting cabinets or wood in general. But I would be lying if I said that finished color didn't speak to me.

Basic base cabinets! (say that three times fast...) I'm looking at shaker-style cabinets in my den as I type - I think that style is "elegantly simple." Great job in the intro explaining the dimensions and options. I like your methods, and kudos for discussing options for how the approach you demonstrate can be adapted. Lookit Shara busting out the router for some frame-and-panel work! Very nicely done. Personally, I really like the second color and hopefully it will grow on you once they are installed. P.S. I spy Bubs 1:20 . P.P.S. not a hint of anything clicky or baity...😉

Thank you! I hope the extra info was helpful-there are obviously lots of ways to build the exact same thing 😊
Also, the router is slowly growing on me. I convinced my husband to set up my router table last week because I HATE setting up new tools and I’ve had it for well over a year half assembled 🙈 so maybe next time I can use that instead of the handheld ha!
The weather has been warmer and sunny so the pets stayed out and about most of this build-of course until I needed to talk to camera and here comes Bubs 🤣
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I appreciate you watching!

Seriously? Again? I just finished the Pantry and my wife and I were talking about the laundry room. We were deciding on buying some cabinets or just building some and then you do this. Guess I'm heading over to the site to buy the plans. I'd be upset if it wasn't for the fact EVERYTHING I've built from your plans turned out perfect.
Seriously though thank you for all the woodworking you've done and shared. This, once again, saves me the time of drawing up my own plans which normally has something missing I forgot to add into the dimensional cuts.

You just finished your pantry and I'm about to start mine! I just finished my laundry room and you're about to start yours! Great minds must think alike ;) haha.
I don't have printable plans for these (although, I do plan to make a guide to building them in several standard sizes!), but hopefully the instructions on the website are helpful. I did include a cut diagram--and they're free :) I truly appreciate your kind words and love to hear you find the plans from the past helpful for your builds. Thank YOU for watching and following along!
