It's up there , no doubt. When I first came across this on UA-cam I thought it was incredible for a live performance in a very low key venue. Everything about the performance was mesmerizing and I've followed them ever since. They are such nice and genuine people.. I wish them all the success that they deserve...but they are probably happy anyway.
Imagine grabbing a beer and some food at the local restaurant and hearing a song like this played to perfection that would later have at least 5 million views.
Not just a random restaurant... a bottom self-pizza and stale beer dive. Amazing event! I hope the peeps that happened to be there appreciate what they witnessed.

I'm not the only one who has pointed this out, but it worth repeating on this 14th anniversary date: Even if one hasn't read the Ear Candy book and discovered that Scott King was truly a professional bass player with considerable street cred in the music business, one only has to listen to his amazing live bass playing here to realize that Scott's reaction at 8:08 to this performance is the perfect acknowledgement of its magnificence.
So, I said to David Crosby at the Meet and Greet two years ago at the Uptown Theater in Napa, California, "what do you think about that terrific band, Foxes and Fossils, singing Suite Judy Blue Eyes live?" And he pauses, reflects for a moment, and says, "I wish I was good enough to be in that band!" Kudos to Foxes and Fossils for brightening all our lives in these tough times.
Imagine a song with so many noticeable outstanding parts to it...the open tuning guitar, the trade off singers plus the ultra rich harmonies and you make a comment about the bass being the bus driver. And being completely correct about it. Well said!
You don't just watch this performance one time! First time, you are amazed, second time you are captivated, third time you can't understand how they do it. After that, you sit back and enjoy it more and more.
Just watched the new Q+A vid they just posted and, as soon as it finished, I just had to come back and watch this AGAIN! I just know I will be coming back regularly to watch this to the end of my days. The ecstacy of the vocals, those sweet harmonies, the energy, bright sound and skill of the lead guitar, the warm dance of the bass line, the perfect balance of the whole arrangement, and the icing on the cake? The beauty of the girls, so engrossed in their performance, they hardly seem to realise how gorgeous they are to watch xx Sublime.
Incredible execution of insanely difficult harmonies - live! No over-sampling, no auto tune, no prerecorded tracks, no techno nonsense, everyone fully dressed, no backup dancers, excellent LIVE musicianship. Millennials, Gen-whatevers pay attention- this is music
And this was the first song of their first performance.... I must have listened to this 100's of times since I discovered it 5 or 6 years ago. Never gets old.
Never never ever ever heard a cover of this VERY difficult song. This was truly amazing . Perfect harmony perfect guitar work. And that bass... just awesome. These guys are truly inspiring to hear. I just can’ t believe that they are not on some big international tour circuit. I know that this was recorded a while back but It is still great in 2019. How many would agree with that?
This and Josh Turner Guitar's versions are both top shelf performances. Once I get this song in my head I actually will dream about it. Something about it grabs me. Amazing performance.
Absolutely fantastic job is all I can say... I'm 62 year's old and I love this version even more than the original... It was actually through a UA-cam search I stumbled across this recording, nearly 10 years ago now and I've been following them ever since... Each one is a professional in their own respect... Forever a fan from Missouri USA
They killed it - and this is hard to cover, to put it mildly. This doesn't have 4.6 million views for no reason. I always come back and watch this and think: I cannot imagine walking into a restaurant or night club and hearing this without asking someone to turn off the TV.....lol. You really don't need to watching CNN or something when you get to hear this group.
Foxes and Fossils is so good they brings me to tears. I have been listening to them for years…and can’t get enough. I hope they realize how much joy they bring to everyone. It’s unfortunate that they are in different states now and it’s difficult for them to get together. Please do more, anything you do will be much appreciated. I can’t thank you enough for all the joy you have brought to me.
I’ve been in music, either playing or singing, for over sixty years. This performance brings a tear to my eyes. I’ve performed CSN music with my friends and can’t tell you in words how difficult it is to get good. These guys exceed “good” by a far shot! My favorite group on UA-cam! And I’m a big Rush fan. Thank you for all your music! You are a treasure. Again, thank you.
I can't imagine sitting in a bar, a band that you've probably never heard of comes out to play their set, and you're not expecting anything great.... and then you hear this... Phenomenal performance. I can't get over that there are TV's on behind them...
The TVs were shut off a couple songs later. "15" and "Strawberry Wine" followed this, the left TV goes off for "Bring It On Home", and the right TV goes off by the end of "We Run". They sang 15 more songs that night.

Just listened to foxes and fossils UA-cam Q&A where Tim references how Graham Nash sent him an email telling him how that was the best cover of the song he’s ever heard. That’s amazing
Kept it Zen simple on instruments, 2 acoustic 6 strings and an electric bass. Certainly all that was needed when executed with this superb level of musicianship. The harmonies are spot on as well. A very impressive rendition of a very challenging song, all hail Fossils and Foxes!😀

Had to come back and watch this one again after hearing of the passing of bassist Scott King. Although he doesn’t get much FaceTime in this video, which is typical of for most bass players, he throws down on this song and keeps it tight. Rest in pease Scott. Prayers for you and your family, as well as all the members of the group as they mourn your passing, and reflect on all the great music to which you contributed.
Only someone who lived in that time of the late 60's would really be able to appreciate this. THIS was special. Foxes and Fossils are something special.

I was sitting here listening to this again for the umpteenth time thinking exactly the same thing...how lucky they are to have heard this live. Still takes my breath away to see such talent and skill.
I spent a career as a high school band teacher being able to ferret out which player hit a Bb instead of B natural and which flute is out of tune and I’m stunned at this performance. I’ve listened to it multiple times, and as difficult as it is, they all nailed it. They blew right past being technically accurate and perform the whole thing in a way that makes a person want to listen to it again and again. It’s just plain fun.
That crowd has NO IDEA what they are witnessing. The guts it took to do this, and have it come fantastic .... it is NOT an easy song, to sing, play. I love this version and the original. Thanks for keeping it here. "4,288,652 views" should say it all...
First song F&F ever performed in public.Tim had just introduced them as the Beauties and Beasties, Scott interrupted and a minute later they became Foxes and Fossils.
wtf are you talking about? They all look to be listening and enjoying the music. Just because you know how to play guitar doesn't make you an aristocrat who gets to shit on regular people enjoying music. A-hole.
@@darwinconort424 Darwin, your contributing vocals and string work is sooo spot on, that it is scary. The open E tuning is kinda tricky for some, but you just nail everything you do on every part of this song, as everything else that i've heard you play. The bass is not just glue, It's CRAZY GLUE ! ! !
Tim worked with the girls on the vocals quite a bit separately. In the years that followed they would have a rehearsal weekend at the beginning of summer, after that just show up and play. Everyone is expected to be fully prepared on their own. (Came in handy when they started studio recording from multiple states.) The Amie and Nobody Love covers on the channel were never rehearsed.
Darwin is just a super guitarist and vocalist. Bringing the older male voices against the gorgeous female vocal is sheer brilliance. The effect of harmony is unparalleled.
Maybe 200th for me! I wonder if most of the folks in that facility realized what greatness they were listening to LIVE??? Love these guys' instrumentals and voices.

When this project failed to get off the ground, Scott moved to Nashville and toured with artists Daren Norwood, Paulette Carlson and Cheley Wright. This video records the first song the group ever played together. First concert, opening number. They named the band just a couple seconds before the video starts (a longer version of the concert exists, not online). The guy on the left had never played with the guy on the right, and the two girls - age 16 and 15 - had never performed in this setting before, just church choirs.
They had two practices prior but still. The amount of chemistry going into this with very little experience playing together is incredible. I said it in another video as well - Scott was a heck of a bassist.
I am always astounded at the talent, the harmony, the good vibes... Everything. They all seemed to take it so casually this is one of the tightest vocal groups I've ever heard I really like these folks.
The "local guys" were some pretty skilled lifelong musicians.Scott was added as an 'afterthought' as he said, rehearsed with them once.Bios at foxesandfossils.com
@Richard Charles What? I don't think any father would think that was disrespectful being called just a dad when doing something great with your family. Give me a break.
This was eleven years ago. Wonder how many of them went on to successful careers in music, one of the most dif- ficult of all professions? As great as they are, my bet would be ... not one. It’s a stunning cover of a stunning song but I’d guess not even the two adults onstage are involved on a full time basis in the music business. I love this, though. I’m a professional musician and guitar teacher; I can attest to the difficulty of even surviving as a full timer.
My guess is that they didn't believe what they were hearing and couldn't even process it. I know that I would be really disoriented if the entertainment in a pizza joint started sounding like a front-line band. Like, what was in my beer, man?
Many times you'll invite family & friends to performances to try to drum up support. A friend tells a friend tells a friend. They probably knew exactly what they were in for, perfection!
Didn’t realize how great this was until I plugged in the earbuds and cut down the top end a little. The bass comes through loud and clear and it totally makes this version. Great job by Scott
It takes a ton of guts to try to pull this one off. It takes a ton of talent to do a better job than CSN live. One of the best cover performances ever. Talent overload.
First time listen for me on this one. NOBODY covers this song. Because it's TOO DAMN HARD to do it right. These guys not only did it right; they KILLED IT! Incredibly tight band. I am subscribing NOW!
Although it may be difficult to really focus and listen to anything other than the amazing vocal performances in this video, the job Scott King delivers on Bass in this video is absolutely astounding.
This is an exceptionally complex arrangement. And this goosebump-inducing rendition also manages to capture the spirit of the age in which it was written. Like someone else commented about stumbling on this band on UA-cam: "it's like finding a Rembrandt at a yard sale."
"...like finding a Rembrandt at a yard sale." That statement capture my feelings exactly. These musicians are simply fantastic! No wonder Graham Nash wrote to congratulate them on this rendition.
Thank you,Scott for deciding to join this little group almost 12 years ago, for coming up with a good name, (Tim's 'Beauties and Beasties' was indeed lame) thank you for bringing joy to many many thousands of fans with your fantastic bass playing, and your always friendly and kind interactions with fans. Thank you so much for everything, you will be greatly missed and fondly remembered thru all these videos by countless more people than you'd ever imagined at the time. Rest in Peace.
Quite an undertaking guys and gals. Never in my 68 short years have I heard a better cover! You should all be extremely proud. Thanks for the opportunity to listen to this jewel!
Why oh why are you people still sitting watching this amazing performance? You should be dancing in the aisles and giving this band a standing ovation. I'm blown away bt this performance!
IMHO This is not only the best cover of this song... This is the best cover of any song I've ever heard. They captured the magic of this song like Steven Sills did when he wrote it.
@Anthony Marks That one was downright impressive. With the members of Led Zeppelin right there so moved by their rendition. (Graham Nash did say in an interview once that F& F's Suite was his favorite cover of a CSN song)
@Anthony Marks I had seen other requests for them. Maggie couldn't match Judith, but Maggie doesn't need to match anyone .I think she'd do it best, but Chase is very good at mimicking other singers voices. We've just begun to hear the range of her capabilities. Like anything else F&F does it would honor the original and be a little different at the same time. With their female harmonies, I think they could be an excellent fresh take on Seekers songs. I'm sure it's somewhere on Tim's list. "So many songs, so little time" - Tim Purcell
@Anthony Marks After following them for 7 years, I've learned to never underestimate this bunch They love a challenge. When they played live, they had one big rehearsal at the beginning of summer, after that just showed up and performed.
This morning for me. Lots of memories with this song. Judy Collins was on the same plane when I flew from JFK to SF to catch my flight to Vietnam in 68. She was in 1st class. Obvious where I was going with gold bars on my class A’s. Those blue eyes looking at me.
They were singing at a beach side bar restaurant in Florida. They were a great band, and played cover songs. The girls are sisters, and then the fossils were dad,and uncles. Glad you found them.
That fact that these guys would even think of taking this on in a live setting speaks volumes about their musical chops. And then to simply knock it out of the park, well....stunning!
@@lynwessel2471 The Foxes and Fossils certainly set the bar high - for not only EVERYONE else, but for their own group as well. So far, no disappointments, and I can't imagine there will ever be. I, Lyn, like you, have been here since the beginning and I'm blown away every time I listen.
@@lynwessel2471 Maybe. Anytime the group covers a CSN song, it is magic. That being said, the fan base is much bigger, as of yesterday, which may have something to do with the popularity. You have to admit - Suite Judy Blue Eyes is the toughest CSN they have covered, to date. Still sets the standard for cover songs and bands. Hard to beat. As stated, no disappointments, but SJBE was the first song publicly performed and it was suite perfection!
@@wagonmaster1974 Carry On with its dissonant harmonies is much more difficult to sing correctly because the right notes are "wrong" according to normal harmony, vs Sammie and Maggie just doubling Grahams part on Suite.
There are no words to describe how amazing this is. These 2 high school girls singing with two older men (One is the father of one of the girls) and they absolutely nail one of the most complex songs ever performed live. Even Stephen Stills got one verse wrong at Woodstock, but they didn't miss a beat here. @@Far2ManyDrugs I have always loved CSN since my high school days (1970) Heck, if CSN never wrote and sang this song, these people could not have covered it. That being said, I had the album and had about memorized the song by the time I saw the Woodstock movie. True. The first song of the first set of the first time the group ever got onstage. Tim (in center, speaking) had a semi-pro band for many years, but only a few weeks before this, got together with his youngest daughter Sammie (checkered dress) and Maggie whom they knew from their church, and put together an experiment featuring the girls that they thought would be a one-time-only event. This was the result. They recorded it for posterity, then found out the mics and instruments could be synced to the video for a professional sound. Twelve of the 20 songs they did that night are here on this channel. But this was what they did for the first number.
The original CSNY was studio recorded these guys are live with an extraordinarily difficult song. The live version of CSNY isn't nearly as good as these guys. How could anyone give them a thumbs down, that's crazy. Very good and well done F&F.

As you say, it was a fun, one-off show, but clearly somebody decided they wanted a decent record for posterity and memories. The talent and experience of each person onstage is readily apparent, especially the bass player (one rehearsal? wow!) who helped keep a challenging song on track. Apart from one vocal timing hiccup by the guitarist (understandable, as he was also replicating all those complicated acoustic riffs by Stephen Stills) who rallied brilliantly a second later, this was truly epic.
Come on Barry, really?????
If he really said that....very funny and classy

This video records the first song the group ever played together. First concert, opening number. They named the band just a couple seconds before the video starts (a longer version of the concert exists, not online). The guy on the left had never played with the guy on the right, and the two girls - age 16 and 15 - had never performed in this setting before, just church choirs.
They had two practices prior but still. The amount of chemistry going into this with very little experience playing together is incredible. I said it in another video as well - Scott was a heck of a bassist.

@@StuartMStrickland Went to meet friends not knowing any music was being played that night..never heard of foxes and fossils..lots of pizza and smiles later..never forgot them..only distraction was the owners left the tvs on..should have turned them off..
@@stuffyteddybare: You'd be amazed how many thousands of F&F fans would sell off prized possessions if they could go back in time and sit where you did on that night, Francis. How astonishingly lucky you were! No one could have heard of Foxes and Fossils, because they only agreed on the name just before stepping on-stage.
If you haven't found them yet, there are about 70 great videos on this channel, including some really wonderful studio recordings from the past few months. More treats and more smiles. Also: foxesandfossils.com
This is the song that introduced me to this wonderful group of musicians! I can't bypass it anytime it comes up in my feed. I have to watch it. Thanks to F&F for giving us all such great music!
Just have to add, Scott King's driving the train with that awesome bass.
Time after time after time, i keep coming back to this recording.
It is THE best live performance of this wonderful song.
👏👏👏👏👏
This is absolutely ASTONISHING. I am listening in 2022 and absolutely WEEPING. I cannot believe the sheer perfection. 🥰🥰🥰

plot twist: Kira has mental health issues.
@@dumpyd its an amazing thing, isnt it!
@@bsdgffishtuna5186 What, exactly, is your problem? I responded emotionally to something beautiful and transcendent. You see fit to be snide and nasty? I don’t think this is a “me/mental health” problem.
@@kirathomsen-cheek9834 But you are judging me now as snide and nasty?? So only you get to judge people. Thats pretty fascist of you.
This is probably the best cover I’ve ever heard. Simply unbelievable.

Is not a cover , it is a tribute to CS&N . Beautifully done .
God put some people here....as u see
Honoured to be the 100th person to thumbs up this comment. I feel sorry for all the clueless sheeple who unwittingly believe that (C)Rap etc can be even remotely associated with MUSIC.
Almost better than the original. These people got some talent! A pure pleasure to listen to.
I wonder how many of the 4 million plus views are original listeners, and how many, like me, just can't get enough. If each person listened 20 times (the count is currently 4,421,140 views), there are just 221,057 of us, watching over and over, still shaking our heads every time.
Holy shit. I gotta be honest, I wasn't expecting a whole lot outta this video when I clicked on it. Within 30 seconds, my breath was literally taken away. I had to pause it and breathe for a minute. Those vocals sound better live than the originals did in studio. That's next to impossible.
3.3 million views was a hint. I've been listening to this for years, never gets old. First song they ever performed in public. Watch the bass player at the very end. He knew they nailed it. Welcome to a channel with the the best cover songs you've ever heard.70 on the list here (click on their round picture above)
@@StuartMStrickland i wish I could hear them all.
@@davidvogel6359 Tim stated on their Patreon channel that the others will eventually see the light of day.
I thought the same thing! CSNY weren’t this tight live.
R.I.P. Scott King🕯️...Your masterful bass playing will never be forgotten. 💟
He was amazing
They recently performed a reunion concert. They didn't play this song as a tribute to Scott cause he carried it.
Amen!
Shame, a great player.
The original CSNY was studio recorded these guys are live with an extraordinarily difficult song. The live version of CSNY isn't nearly as good as these guys. How could anyone give them a thumbs down, that's crazy. Very good and well done F&F.
I've CSN live once, and that was enough. Not impressed. I'd love to see these guys live.
People who give this a thumbs down have jealousy issues or some other emotional problem.
Just so you know young wasn’t actually part of this song but you are right it’s a fantastic cover I love it and is on one or my go to play lists
The first time CSN did it live that was recorded was at Woodstock. First song F&F sang live was right here.
here we go on the thumbs down again 🥱
I dont often comment and at the time of my viewing this video is 13 years old. Im sitting at work with wiping tears from my eyes because this version was so good it made me emotional for no reason other than the beautiful art that was produced. I feel indebted for listening to this magic. I wished i had been there live

The harmony between these two ladies is awesome
Maggie Adams to the left, Sammie Purcell right. They doubled the high part on this one.
As an aging (60) year old child of the era where a lot of music comes from, I cannot describe how good it makes me feel to hear and see you folks. Tight vocals, passionate, crisp and accurate playing and just plain incredible chemistry. ALL of it. PLEASE find a way to keep it going. You folks make me feel like I'm alive again and I thank you for that!
Hey, kid....I’m 74 this year....imagine how they make me feel!
Rick...we suffered disco even though we didn’t make it. These songs made it possible to endure.
I’m 72 and lovin’ what I’m hearing. Maybe us adults should form an F&F fan club.
@@markklein437 As a matter of fact, we did! 😁 Here is the link.... facebook.com/groups/1632462426895484/
We have a ton of fun and some of the band members stop by from time to time. If you get F&F fever, you can join the F&F Patreon. You might check that out, as well.
Same here at 61 in The Netherlands.
The on stage look at each other during a song when you know you're nailing it is prevalent in Maggie's eyes. Facial expressions are priceless. 11 years ago! WOW
Sammie has it too!
At the very end you see Scott yell "Yeah!" at Darwin. Scott almost turned down playing with them, he had thought it might be "kinda silly and a waste of time"(Apparently he hadn't heard those girls sing together) .I believe he just rehearsed the show once with them.
@@lynwessel2471 Hi, Lyn! Some listeners may not know that it was Scott who “renamed” the band Foxes & Fossils during this concert. The gals LOVED the name! A stroke of genius....thanks, Scott! This was also the F&F first concert together. History was made that night!
@@lynwessel2471
Scott said that?- for shame Scott!- for shame!😆
@@richardmiller2313 Scott said it. On the Join Patreon video he said that they asked him after rehearsing a few times if he would join them and he said he did it because of long time friendship with Tim. Says now he couldn't imagine his life without F&F. He added so much to the songs, without him it may well have been the only show as was originally intended.(Edited it, should have made that more clear.)
December 2024 had to revisit this fantastic group.
I can imagine being dragged to a concert like this not knowing what to expect and then being blown away by the talent. Awesome rendition. Truly amazing.
They were friends and family there to see what local musician Tim had come up with this time! This is the very first song of their first public performance.Came up with the band name onstage a few seconds earlier.Huge list, 10 years of great stuff on this channel( click on their round pic above)
For those who may not know, yet: This was the first ever public performance of Foxes and Fossils.
?
And somebody paid for professional videography and audio tracks directly off the mixing board? for an unknown band?
@@scottbc31h22 Nope. Tim Purcell organized this production himself.
They started out being amazing and have only gotten better with each performance.
@Scott BC31H - Check out the band’s recent Q&A video. Tim’s friend Terry Heinlein is a professional videographer and he volunteered to film the show (Terry ‘complains’ off camera in the video about still not being paid!) and Tim already had HD24 recording gear from his own band, The Mustangs. Foxes and Fossils was a side project to allow his daughter and her friend to sing together - they assumed this would be their only performance.
THAT IS UNBELIEVABLE!!! (the guitarist on the left missed one singing part, but they hammered that song!)
Without a drummer, that bassist is holding it down for everyone!
Scott King
Slapper!
he IS the song. Everything else just reacts to him.
Virginia boy. Represent.
I never noticed that. Your right. He's got them covered well. Do you know anyone that needs a bassist?
No greater player of the Bass guitar ever slung one around his neck! I wish I met him just so I could have shaken the hand that brings absolute rhythym and joy to all of us
Really wonderfull. Funny how the girls (who sing like absolute pitched angels) don't really seem to realise in what league they are actually singing. Maybe they were a wee bit too young to understand in that moment in time. But wheter it is about harmony, guitar skills or indiviual voices, this is real art. thank you... Big hug from Belgium.
This is one of the finest covers ever posted on UA-cam. I wish you guys were still putting new videos up. Respect.
We will again, soon...Thanks

As a professional musician for 50 years AND super fan of CS&N since the very beginning, I was so thrilled to encounter this video. Wow - such precision and subtleties and downright fantastic performance. Great songs are always with us, especially when such talent brings them to life again.
I can't begin to describe the harmony, vocals & instrumentation this performance does to perfection.....WONDERFUL!!!!!!
I got tired of clicking on the "Thumbs Up" for each comment. Simply too good for a cover band. Why only let me vote once?
Absolutely amazing.. best suite judy blue eyes since CSN&Y.. great job you guys
So happy to have stumbled upon this , i need to read up on this group, im taking its dads & their kids, just great 👍
🎸❤🎸👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🎸❤🎸
On a scale of 1 to 10 this performance rates a solid 11. I would definitely PAY to see this live!
I return to watch and listen to this every month or so. On headphones you properly hear that sublime bass line providing the honeycomb for the structure, while the band leader holds the melody line and performs filler and counter strums on off-beats, and the girls flawless with their tight soaring harmonies adding bright dimension overall. An astonishing performance of inspired quality born of application, endless rehearsal and granite talent.
First song, first public performance. Tim worked with the girls quite a bit for the 20 song show, Darwin ( left) came over 4 times and Scott (right) rehearsed with them once. Professional musicians and 2 exceptionally talented girls (and quick learners) age 15 and 16 at the time. A fun one-off winter project that turned into a 'youtube band' with 87,000,000 views
Perfectly said, Skyline Runner
@@lynwessel2471 Thank you for the background to this amazing performance. Frankly I'm blown away that they opened the set with this song, and not some easier ones to warm up with, and I love that they had the foresight to ensure the sound was recorded properly, plus multiple cameras to capture it, instead of the usual shakey camcorder with poor sound. Thanks again for your informative post, Lyn. You're the cat's meow 😀

Man, I would have been standing and clapping for the whole performance.
You'll never get tired of listening to them perform this song. History will definitely remember them for this song. The beginning of a great band and group of people. Never change! You have recorded your place in history. Tim thank you! There is dead silence in the audience. They know they are hearing something so good that they are stunned.
Yeah... I agree. I'd be stunned too because I've never heard a band this good in person, and at a small venue like this no less. And I'm 67.
Helpfully, if anyone got bored, they could watch 60 Minutes in the background.

Here's a song approximately 50-years old that still is moving in itself. Then it it re-invigorated by these very talented young vocalists/performers.
