Being an #irish expat in #minsk #belarus isn't always easy. While out hunting for Soviet murals last Sunday, events took an unexpected twist. I knew I had forgot something.
Love Belarus, I was multiple times there, my best memory is picking mushrooms in the woods early in the morning. If you see random cars parked near the highway in the middle of nowhere - people are picking mushrooms :D

The body of water you walked by near the National Library is actually not the Svisłač River itself, but a part of the system of artificial channels called Slapianskaja Water System. It's a unique and fascinating feature of Minsk city. A system of pumps draws water from the Drazdy Water Reserve in the northwest of the city and pumps it directly into the Cnianskaje Water Reserve in the north. From there, a system of artificial channels carries this water back to the Svisłač River/Čyžoŭskaje Water Reserve in the southeast of the city. This is one of very few positive legacies of the soviet era in Minsk.

I think Belarus was one of the only countries that had no lockdown, despite the protests of the western backed ‘opposition’ leaders. (See Irish Partizan videos from 2020/21 and Anfisa Belarus) No vaccine mandates either along with China. (Probably a result partly of WW2 and the actions of units like Japan’s Unit 731)

Well, today the truth is out about Putin's long range plans for Belarus. Simply, it will be annexed and the Belarusian military will be integrated into that of Russia. However the next few years unfold Belarus will suffer greatly if this happens. Good luck folks!
