Yep. Just like in North Korea. For very little money people will move the grass in wintertime, do anything. They are very limited in their opportunities. And if you are smart enough to succeed, they will consider you like an illegal enrichment. Why so? Because they know that the system they build here supposes slave work and nothing else. Then how did you manage making your money?

Hi Neil, I visited my Belarusian relatives in a small town. I was surprised and impressed - brand-new sport complex, amazing grocery shops (only local products) etc. And lovely river Ведьма which means Witch !
P.S. In Minsk there is a monument I drop by when I visit- there was a beer festival and torrential rain started. Crowds of young people rushed to the underground pass, and many died in stampede. Very sad.

This might be one of the best schools in Belarus so it will be nice. Think about the state of run-down schools vs. the best schools in any country. The average school has average facilities but the best schools usually outrank the average schools in terms of facilities. Seeing Russian state schools and Russian private schools in Moscow, the difference is noticeable in terms of the facilities available. The state schools I've seen in Moscow and the Moscow region are catching up but there is still a noticeable difference in terms of how the schools are kept and the standard of the facilities available. However, I cannot vouch for the rest of Russia.

@@JoaoCardoso86 Go to Ukraine. It's a democracy as well where you can actually find a job and navigate the visa process for a few hundred dollars. You can earn from 1000-2000 USD in teaching, English teaching, IT, Customer service, Translation, marketing etc. Belarus looks great for tourism and meeting interesting folk if it is ever stable again, but if you want Eastern Europe's great mix but value your freedom, Ukraine is the only show in town. Now you will need to speak Russian, Ukrainian or Polish or at least a little German to get by in Ukraine for the many situations where there's no English, but if you are into languages and not just expecting English hand holding, it's good anywhere around here. Irish Partizan's Russian has improved a lot in 2-3 years, reminds me a lot of when I learned Polish, improving every year(I am learning Russian too and I am also Irish, so if Irish people can learn Polish and Russian, Portuguese/Spanish speaking people like you can too). In Kharkov and Kiev you can use Polish and German when people don't speak English.

The oldest schools in Belarusian towns are always the ones that get really good renovations. My aunt works as a teacher in Slutsk. Most schools don't look like that, besides I guess besides that one and the school near the bazaar all the schools are identical and not as pretty. What I find unique is that they all have courtyards in the middle, I've only seen one school in the US that had something like that but a huge downgrade. Some of my cousins went to the last school built by the ussr in their city and ironically it's the one in the poorest condition bc it is "the newest".

I don't like how you just pretty much ignore her the whole time. You're too focused on the camera. The girl needs attention. Not shameful behavior, but not very much like a gentleman. I find it hard to watch all of the video because of that. It just made my stomach feel bad to watch this behavior.

I would enjoy to see both of you exploring Belarus together. :D
