Or the Windows 10 based GPD Win.
Do I have to pay for discord?
No
"It's big, but it feels great in my hands" -MJR, 2017
Hello Swiftful LOL
Cummon, There's no other way to get the message across mate
#Giggity
God damn it, came here to say that.
Of course I'm joking around. Love the videos Metal Jay!
This cost more than Nintendo Switch.
Illicit Films I was wondering why he didn't recommend a switch, instead of a psp. Switch gets more and more boss everyday
+Abracadab22 The Vita is a solid gaming system. The Switch is pretty much the same thing as the Vita. The only difference being that the Vita has a much bigger gaming library. That being said I like them both.
Yeah, in terms of breadth of content and portability the Vita had more going for it. And if you're considering going the hacking route, there's a pretty active Vita hacking scene out there. Compared to the Switch which, by virtue of being newer doesn't have nearly as much for it.
JetteroHeller83 but the Switch can support much bigger games like Skyrim, BOTW and Xenoblade 2 which is bigger than both of the previous I mentioned combined I understand that really long games with huge worlds aren’t for everyone tho. Honestly tho just wait for the Switch to get hacked until then you can stick to the VIta for Emus.
JetteroHeller83 I have the Vita and the Vita is pretty shitty with AAA games and lots of frame rate drops .. the switch has the same graphics as the Vita with a lot of games and it actually has Nintendo's support unlike with the Vita but Vita has the switch beat with the online in-game chats
OK... the input lag IS NOT from the physical system. it's from the specific emulator the game is running on. nintendrew found the same problem and just downloaded a different emulator.
i was just gonna ask its the happy chick isint it (that emulator is meh)
They are obviously lying about those specs
Doubtful, those are typical Android specs, the emus are just shit. Little effort put into coding for the snapdragon (I'm assuming) and the corresponding architecture
*It costs more than a ps4*
gpd xd is way better and much cheaper gearbest has then for $140usd at the moment
MrJ0mmy oh dang thanks for the heads up. Last time i checked tgose where 300+ bucks
My cellphone cost 2x of what a ps4 costs...... New iPhone costs like 3x... The point of this is that its a handheld and runs ROMs.
Ex0rz "Runs"
Yeah well doesnt do that very well :D If it would, then the price would be justified. I guess the problem is the software of the emulators and not the hardware itself.
The JXD S192 initially had a Tegra K1 in it. Soon after it released , Nvidia pulled supply of the Tegra K1which meant that JXd had to scramble for a SOC replacement , in the end having to use the Rockchip 3288. The intial K1 version, if you find one, was actually pretty good.
Victor Coleiro This should be the top comment.
Victor Coleiro how can you discern the tegra units from the rockchip?
Of course you could just buy an Nvidia Shield tablet and get a controller. The Shield is a 7" tablet and they have controllers that expand and hold the Shield in the middle - it's like having a giant Nintendo Switch - which it basically is since it's all the same processor. The Shield Handheld has pre-K1 Tegra chipset that isn't all that much slower, but Nvidia abandoned it on Android 5 - but you can run up to Nintendo DS games without any problems on it - and it's very comfortable to hold at 5" with a beefy controller, it's basically like using an original XBOX Duke controller, which I personally like.
*Oh boi souja bois gonna love this*
New soula hand held lol
I like how you guys can't spell 'Soulja'...
*_Oh wait, I'm gonna be charged extra for that, NOOOOOOO._*
who is soulja boy?
Stop bashing my boy!!!
"Sometimes, I'd touch the screen and it just wouldn't register... I don't know why."
I do. It's cheap Chinese junk.
its worse, expensive chinese junk...
Like the switch, xbox one, ps4 etc.
@@VarietyGamerChannel the different is that Nintendo Sony and Microsoft make sure that their products are good you know QA and all that
The nVidia Shield destroys this thing in performance based on your review. Also, much more feature rich and refined. I would probably pay like $100 for this at most.
Barnacules Nerdgasm specifically, the SHIELD Portable. Shield TV and Tablet is nothing portable at all
Barnacules Nerdgasm I'll buy the Nvidia Shield Portable and Nvidia Shield Pro for my emulation
GPD Win master race.
need2burn hell yeah
The GPD XD smokes them both :D
"It's big but it feels great in my hand" ... Alrighty then
Haha
Please keep making videos I enjoy your content so much bro you have no ideal how much I look forward to your stuff
Well, you could probably use it as a riot shield.
$330 is pretty costly for a device that needs to be thrown away in a few years when the analog sticks get sloppy and the battery can no longer take a charge.
So a switch?
Tact1cal Banana you can buy new controllers for the switch whenever you want
Yea, 80 bucks for 2 joycons ? No thanks.
Pootis because of the popularity of the switch 3rd party options will come out and prices will naturally go down
still to much money ...
I love that you featured Biker Mice From Mars! Cool review!
You mention Einhander, some vague memories of my childhood started stirring. I had been searching for the name of that game for so long, not just on its own, but also Tomba. Thanks to a comment on a random video for Einhander lets play I found both games. I used to play these so much as a kid and got to the point that I almost couldn't remember them. Thanks for choosing to include the game in your video, now I can finally play these games past the demo
Dang! You beat me to it, too! I'm reviewing this thing right now haha. Seems like everybody is.
Did you experience CRASHING while trying to initially search within Happy Chick!? I was able to fix that with an update...but even that was tricky to find.
Not usually while searching, but tons of games/Happy Chick emulators did crash on launch... But my biggest issue was the camera. For some weird reason, everything is tinted red until the camera focuses on something green! Does yours have any such issue? haha
Edit: By the way, the system comes with a pre-installed screen protector, which may be why there are 2 spots on the screen. Did you try removing the protector? Might be worth a shot :)
Do not use Happy Chick LOL
My screen had way worse spots, including a giant one under the glass. If I pressed on it, the bubble would move out of the way, but would come back. Looking forward to Nintendrew's video now.
I just tested the camera...and you're right...it's RED in my game room. I took it outside, and then the white balancing seemed to correct on it's own...but back inside and then it's back to tomato red. It sucks.
I've done quite a bit with input delay on my channel.. It's a combination of hardware and the emulators. The best performance I've seen so far out of a modern game playing device is the Analogue NT Mini. Even on faster devices like the Nvidia Shield tablet / TV the emulation itself introduces some latency. Those timings are hard to replicate in software.
Lon.TV that's mostly because the Analogue NT isn't strictly emulating the NES (or other platforms for that matter).
Lon.TV you are AMAZING 😀😀
And the NT mini is not too portable...
Hey Lon! Didn't expect to see you here!
Lon.TV Classic. Only you would do these types of tests... Which is EXACTLY why I watch your channel.
I love your channel man I tune in with a child like innocence. I think we all like feeling like kids again even if it's just 11 mins and 43 seconds out of our hectic lives! Thank you!
I believe the dots are air bubbles in the pre-installed screen protector.
Exactly! I can’t believe he couldn’t tell! Mine had bubbles also.
Way overpriced for sure. At $150 or so it'd be a much better investment.
RGT 85 $150 LMFAO
RGT 85 ya man it is way too expensive. The physical design looks nice but under the hood it's a hot mess.
RGT 85 sweet channel dude.
As is, it's worth about $69.99.... that's factoring in a price that people wouldn't feel ripped off on after purchase.
I'm using a oneplus one, which is a 3 year old phone, with retroarch, a multi-core retro app which is mostly used for emulators, and a $12 Bluetooth controller from China, and I'm having an infinitely better experience with retro emulation than what was shown here. And it can make phone calls. Through retroarch, most android phones can run most emulators up to psx nearly flawlessly, and my Chinese 12-button Bluetooth controller imparts next to no lag. Certainly nothing even approaching noticeable.
Virtual Boy in the intro now!? Representing for the VB fans!
VB for Life!
Pyrochaos hell yeah. Local Seattle guy here with a full VB collection. Don't see much of it out there.
BryceW How do you mange to play those games? just curious
Pyrochaos lol they must be blind by now
Robert Wallen I've noticed if your use to focusing on objects near and far you don't get headaches from it. A lot of people that wear glasses I've noticed say the don't get headaches. Plus a lot of the games are fun so you get wrapped up in the game sometimes.
Thank you for doing this review. I'd heard about this about a year ago but couldn't any substantially good things about it..
you'd be better off buying a $300 phone and a $20 bluetooth controller (like an ipega)
If you use and OTG cable and a mini USB, dualshock 3 controllers are natively compatible with Android (and the button mappings are good out the box, because some android games don't allow you to remap). There is a company selling a device that allows to X360 controllers are hit and miss (on some devices it doesn't work, and the mappings aren't always right). I also used a PS2 controller through a USB adapter (but the mappings were wrong). Good thing is, emulators always allow you to do custom mappings.
I just use ppsspp ,drastic, myboy etc with a bluetooth xbox controller.
8 bitdo all day for the controller.
The GPD WIN is the best handheld device out there at the moment for emulation etc, can even handle Wii emulation!
Literally everything you threw at it ran on my phone from 2013 perfectly at 1080p. That phone is like $60 now haha.
LG G2
Video Immortal now i want that phone
my Amazon phone ran all these too
Video Immortal I have had 100$ Android phones that run emulators fine
No,it didnt. Literally had a g4 n kt couldnt run "ANYTHING"
Honest reviews while being respectful about it, love the reviews and trust your opinion for sure !!!
Thanks for your honesty brother
(I subscribed)
Great honest review MJR!! Love this channel!
I really appreciate that you give the Vita so much love on your channel. You know! I respect that.
Thanks for your honest review
Thanks for honest review
I kinda get that he would be frustrated with this. However, the problems he had with the emulators (N64, PSP and Dreamcast) are normally not because of the hardware itself, its because the emulators aren't yet good enough on the android. I have the Shield K1 tablet (which has about the same specs as the S192), which runs the games as well as this
This comment is kinda weird. You state that it's the emulators problem and not the hardware, and then detail how you have a similarly speced device...that runs similar to his? I don't understand the point of that information and how it relates to the emulators being the problem. You are correct in that it is the emulators problem though
RZ9229 there are very advanced emulaters for all the consoles he played. If they were really confident in their product then it would've had dolphin and cemu pre-installed (or even pcxpss2 or whatever the ps2 emu is called)
I said that to further the point that it is not about the hardware being chinese, or bad hardware. as even a nvidia console has problems with some emulators
That is for PC my friend. PC emulators are currently playing PS2 games in an acceptable fashion. for android, i think it goes as far as playing some PSP games well. Thats all im saying
PPSSPP is great on android too, he probably just configured it poorly
The defects on the screen you saw are just air bubbles trapped underneath the pre-installed screen protector common for Chinese devices. Annoying but you can peel it off or carefully poke tiny needle-holes into the bubbles to get rid of them.
This is a very good review, very detailed and fair too, thanks for sharing it as I do occasionally consider JXD style products. Along with Retron and other platforms to marry up older gaming, android gaming and more recent platforms too. Cheers.
Another deep enjoyable review, you ROCK😄
Those look like bubbles on a screen protector, sure there isn't a really hard to notice protector on there?
Nope... Wish it was a screen protector... the screen is defective.
It isn't defective. It is a feature. They did it to ensure that you wouldn't play the device for more than the recommended amount of time. Eventually you just can't ignore those spots in the screen any more which causes you to stop playing it.
It's a screen protector. Get a safety pen or needle and poke at it carefully to lift it up.
It's dust on the internal underside of the screen. I've had a dozen cheap tablets that have the same problem. They don't put as much effort into constructing a true dust-free Clean Room to assemble the screens inside of as big name companies do.
I've got the JXD S7800b and it handles most Dreamcast titles no problem. I wonder what's up with this one. I was about to feel like I should've waited for this one given the nicer ergonomics, but it seems like it performs far better.
The input delay on my device is also quite noticeable, but only when plugged in to a TV over HDMI. I've had no problems playing SNES games in handheld mode.
buddy!!!when will u make another video like this!!!!this is so funny!!!i cant wait!!!
Great work Man. MJ
I just started watching your videos recently. You inspired me to start a ps1 collection
Thank you for the review.
Thx for the video man. Very clear ,to the point... Thx for saving me money
thanks for the review
1:20 Those two dots...
Just air bubbles under the *removable* plastic screen protector. :-P
Android 5.1??? What year is it?
Aufinator Chinese years
Chinese New Year
5mp camera jesus that’s Nintendo dsi quality
Android 5.1 on a console?
It doesn't even support Vulkan API. So, it can't run any games that looks more or less modern. I bought PS Vita like a month ago for about $100 with 32 gig card, two games and a bag. And it definitely is better
Thanks for review👍
To answer your question about input lag, retroarch now has an option to “advance frames” and it will allow you to (in a way) remove the lag.
You should've gotten a GPD Win for around that price. It can play PC games and emulators. GPD is a Chinese company as well.
I have that machine. Bought it about a year ago at around $200 with the purpose of emulator games on the go. Mame, nes, snes and genesis mainly. All you said here is true. The delay in emulators is almost unnoticeable, android games run fast and smooth, but the screen they used to build this is just garbage. The touch area became more and more unresponsive and nowadays is completely non responsive. I have to use the right thumbstick as pointer and type letters on the keyboard with that. A nightmare
+Hugo Pineda thanks so much for comments from a current owner of the device!
Thanks for the help, I am a subscriber now! God Bless Brother
Metal Jesus you are the best! Your honesty in judging any game system in their functionality and worth is truly amazingly cool. By showing us these things you help us gamers save money, and make sure that we don't make mistakes in buying bad games, plus the best part, you always make sure they work. I appreciate everything you do for the gaming community.
It's big and it feels great in my hand. -MetalJesusRocks 2017
Lol
Awesome video as always mate! That is one of the most overpriced bits of kit I have ever seen.... but
I want one haha! From the looks of it, its not very well configured which lets the hardware down. Not that its a beast out the box anyways from the specs... but should easily cope with most of the games you shown off. HOWEVER....
Most of the issues I had seen from the games tested was more to do with the choice of the emulator. Not even sure what many of those shown are, and thats saying something. Then throw in the fact its Android, some emus love that OS, some hate it, some not even supported. But, N64 and Dreamcast never play all games using one emu on any system... Its just a case of where the emulation dev is up to in most cases. But Crazy Taxi? That should be working on all good DC emus at this point.
Controller Lag... arrrrgh. Yes it can be a side effect from emulation, but easily rectified in most cases by either using a better or well suited emulator to run it. Or configuring hardware as it should be. From the looks of the basic setup they gave you little to no effort was made with that, its a shame as with controls built in, it should be golden out the box. But the fact they gave you one with defects on the screen kinda sums what you would expect from them in the long run.
TL:DR
Its overpriced and ill configured. Hopefully access to Play Store may give you more options. But as always a fantastic video from one of my fave creators! Thanks mate :D
Simply Austin yea I agree I think it's a bit overpriced compared to something like the Nvidia shield portable or the switch
Any videos planned in the future
lol Austin you are EVERYWHERE mate!
i personally think the GPD is a much better deal. it's like a 3ds xl with windows 10. i was able to push it to run games like bioshock 2(max), just cause 2(lowest), and starcraft (both original and 2). planning to try more with it.
One of the most overpriced bits of kit? Talking like you never seen iphones.
"It's big but it feels great in my hands" quote of the day
You gone burn with that name 🔥🔥🔥🙏🏾
Metal “it’s big but it feels great in my hands” Jesus
Rather get a GPD WIN for that money: runs a normal Windows 10 and uses a regular x86 processor, meaning that any PC game/software runs on it.
xXYannuschXx agreed
A atom prossesor is useless
Wow, $900 for a GDP WIN 2. Almost $550 for the first version... who the hell would pay that for either of those.
A GPD XD Plus is faster and cheaper than this machine.
If you have $800 plus to spend go for it.
Great review.
Great review
It's a great idea to have a good handheld emulator on the go too bad it wasn't that up to standards. Good review you rock man 🤘
gpdxd is way better and cast $140usd right now on gearbest
2:07 that is what she said.
Thanks a lot, finally a review that don't to want to sell this!
Crazy how far we’ve come
For about $30 more I bought a Sony z4 tablet which is compatible with a PS4 controller for remote play and emulators, I would recommend it to anybody!
Scasebow oh
oh
oh
oh
Oh
$329 for a Rockchip RK3288 powered device? That's a mid-range SOC that came out in 2014! It's wayyyy underpowered for that price!
I'm curious though, what SNES and Genesis emulators did this come pre loaded with? There are both really good and bad emulators available on the play store. Some run better than others, and yes, some have better input response times. MyBoy (a GBA emulator) for example runs games very well, but has horrific input lag. I even argued with the developer about it lol.
I personally recommend uninstalling every one of those pre loaded emulators and downloading the ".emu" series of apps from Robert Broglia. Also, that N64 emulator looks way out of date. Get the current Mupen64 plus FZ emulator free from the Play Store. All the others are imitations. I've been emulating on Android phones for like 5 years, so if you need any advice, just ask!
It's weird but this show seems like something I would watch every Sunday morning. Perhaps because this guy looks a lot like a video game trader I used to buy my games to when I was young. My brother took me to his store on Sundays.
Thank you for showing disruptor i for the life of me could nit remember that name. Now i gotta get it.
You should check out GPD Win. It's basically a full windows 10 PC crammed into a 3ds XL.
Oh shit! Did I just see Neon Genesis Evangelion N64 in your emulator?!
Kenny Cordova yeah like barely anyone plays or even owns it
About your delay problem.. i struggled with the same issue when I tried to run it on my laptop and porting it to my TV.
Luckily I discovered that my TV had a setting a setting that was called 'game' apparently it ran much greater and with no delay once that was activated. I realize you might know that about this already but I figured I'd let you know anyway. Thanks for the video I enjoyed it much and appreciate your honest feedback on the products you review
9:57 the way you holding the tablet and moving your hands about like a numbnutt has me in fear you gunna drop it 😁
So It's a bit shit.
Basically yeah. Maybe at $100 I could recommend it... *maybe*
MetalJesusRocks i would say just buy a psp
psp is cool, but ps vita is cooler!
fernando91303 psx games on the go!!
I have a JXD 7800, which was only $150. It's been good for replaying old GBA games using emulation, but kinda crap for anything else. In particular, the wifi reception is poor, and the stock Android build is terrible. You can upgrade the ROM with fan-made ROMs that are better, but it's still pretty much amateur hour. Also, lately it's been giving warnings about overheating.
I really like the idea of a 7" Android gaming tablet, but so far nobody has made one that is really good.
This defects are may just bubbles underneath the preapplied screen protector
I doubt that, they seem too perfectly square and neat to be bubbles
They are in fact under the screen protector....remove it
Man I'm so glad I found this video. I was really thinking about buying this device. I'm gonna buy the Linx Vision 8 instead. You should do a video on that
Thank you very much , you save our money. Really i say that to all the youtubers that you buy these consoles and testing them for us. You are a money savior, really i mean that and i appreciate your money you pay and the time and the work you make to give us the final results. Thanks again, i wish always do that and protecting us from these mistakes, you make serious work here and i appreciate that to the max, really i appreciate what you do.
I had an older jxd and it was cheaper but had the same problems and ran the same games. Battery had issues a month after buying it. Wouldn’t go near them again
That device should be able to run dreamcast and N64 games without a sweat. My guess is that the android versions of the emulators are buggy.
I envy you for that room. So much awesome stuff.
Love your videos. Very informative and helpful for my gaming needs. Just one minor thing.. seems like your audio could be improved a bit. I’m watching on iPhone and notice some crackling etc when you or others are talking on camera only.
I'm always surprised when I see a current device have any trouble at all with older systems like the NES, SNES, or even N64 generation. I used to play emulated NES/SNES/Genesys on my pc around 98. Just a couple years later I was playing GBA and N64 shortly after. That was nearly 20 years ago. How could it not be the simplest thing now?
Because most emulators now aim for some modicum of accuracy, and the emulators like Nesticle, ZSNES, etc. which were filled with hacks to get games playable don't often have ports to other platforms that can be used as a base.
I honestly doubt the device is to blame here. It's probably just lousy emulators.
The .emu series of emulators and cores in Retroarch work fantastic on Android. No noticeable flaws in emulation or input lag even using a wireless 8bitdo controller.
Keep in mind that the modern hardware doing the emulating is not only running the software, but it is "running the hardware" as well. An emulator is a piece of software that attempts to simulate hardware. This is much more demanding on hardware than running the software alone. That combined with the fact that the average guy who's creating an emulator is probably not quite as skilled, well financed, well supported and doesn't have as much time to dedicate as the best triple-A programmers at the best companies of today and you run into limitations.
You should try the GPD XD
Kludcurve or any other gpd including the win which would be way more powerful and can run everything better, and run pc games too. or even the cheaper gpd android ones , they all more powerful and cost way way less
The 2 defects on the screen are air bubble behind the screen protector. It's such a good fitting screen protector it's hard to even tell it's on there but you can remove it
That was the special edition CrazySLOMO Taxi that was never released. haha ur reaction was great.
What the hell? I had a dreamcast emulator on my Note 5 and it ran flawlessly! That thing looks like garbage, but I enjoyed this video
yeah better off getting a GPD XD for $140usd off gearbest does a much better job playing dreamcast
the Note 5 gpu has 210 gflops.. as compared to this turd only 80gflops
You could buy a nintendo switch for the money
GPD WIN is a windows 10 3DS XL knock off that is an absolute mobile beast. would recommend it over the switch any day.
Dill Zilla
*Doom and Wolfenstein ll coming to switch*
Yeah sure , like the gpd can run this game 😂😂😂😂
Dill Zilla issue is GDP win doesn't have that much power, I don't know that much about the switches hardware, but I know it can run rocket league and make it look pretty, which I doubt the integrated graphics of the gpd win can do. Emulators definitely are a strong point for the win though
Lukas G
it performs fairly well in the games i've played on it. i would imagine rocket league would run fine considering i ran bioshock infinite on it.
Lukas G
the switch isn't actually using a dedicated GPU similar to intel processors. the switch has a quad-core processor with what is presumably clock speeds of 1.6ghz (no official info has actually been released to my knowledge) with a graphics processor that has 256 with a max clock speed of roughly 0.8ghz (again, these numbers aren't official). the GPD WIN has a quad-core intel atom clocked at 1.6ghz (2.3ghz turbo) with a graphics processor that has 128 cores clocked at 0.4ghz (0.8ghz turbo). with all of this being said it is roughly half as fast give or take the nintendo clock speeds and has nintendo games. with that being said the GPD is smaller, has a much longer battery life (roughly 8 hours), far more games, and can be used as a desktop PC due to it having windows and more ports.
this should be better than me saying that it should run on it compared to X game.
Your a cool dude, good real reviews! A+ that way i don't waste my money! I'm on dialysis I got lots of cheap retro handhelds that were 20 bucks at my local CVS lol, nothing super but Mario mega man man, then card n puzzles but I also got 1 called RETRO FC.. plugs into your tv must say you should do a review on it I got 2...comes with contra, super co n tra,Tetris lots if Mario for lil over 20 bucks! I got 2 becuz I lost my cord n the other 1 had newer mega man etc RETRO FC...nothing fancy, but alll great fun! God bless 😇🙏
Keep up the good work :)
Imma keep it real with you chief, no
OMG!!! EINHANDER!!!! Finally someone that knows what that is!!!! It’s the best game ever!!!!
I beat it about 50 times!!!!
Back in 2012 I got one (far less expensive!) and I loved it. I could emulate pretty much everything until the psx and I had lots of fun with it. Lasted until last year and if I wanted it again, all I have to do is change the battery.
Digging the corvo attano shirt
@MetalJesusRocks, have you tried Ouya?
Played around with an Ouya at John Hancock's house... he was having sound issues with it... so it didn't make a great first impression....
You are my favourite youtuber of all time man your so down to earth keep up the great work
Good vid. Subscribed.
I bought a switch for $230 almost new from someone and Im loving it. This is like my portable console when I traveled, plus I have the online subscription which is only $20 bucks ? can't really beat that price
By the GPD is a little bit better
"little bit" No shit, it's Windows "laptop"
Sławek XD I think he means the Android Version of the GPD.
The GPD Win is a windows "laptop", The GPD XD is an android "tablet" though.
Matt Jarvis psp go is the best for retro hand held gameing and its only 100 bucks
Understatement of the Century award goes to... OP!!!!
I bet it only costs $100 in asian countries
60$ fam
Swap meet console
The screen actually has a screen protector that is probably the reason for the spots.
If you want to sync a controller(at least for bluetooth devices) with no delay, download "Bluetooth Autoconnect" from the android store, go to Advanced settings there will be a "Retry After (Secs)" section go there and put 5 seconds or under. This works for many bluetooth gamepads wantings to play smoothly with android emulators.
